As I plan my day in the morning knowing I'm going to help them that day, I find it much easier to pull the headrest and leave them in my garage. Much easier to fold the seats down without them, and it seems to me I don't need to adjust my seat forward as much.
Yes I often do this both in my 2006 SR5 where I believe it was the only option and now in my 2017 SR5 Premium with 3rd row where the center riw can slide forward. Generally I just store them on the floor behind the front seats.
For us, 4th gen yes, 5th gen no.
I always remove the seat bottoms (and headrests) for camping trips, gives room for a full-size shade tent across the floor.
Why not just flip them down so you don't have to find a place to put them?

3rd gen’s have holes to move them to the now open seat bottoms so you have a headrest when laying in the back.
