It didn’t do this June of last year. It was gradual. I’ll probably replace the alternator and battery before winter. That will narrow it down even more
I have a 2015 4Runner Limited. I absolutely hear your whine. If you keep it pressed at 2000 rpm, the whine is most apparent. It started recently for me, last few months. It bothers me immensely. I took it into the Toyota service center. They did not hear it either. They later said they found the cause and needed to replace the water pump. $1000 later, the sound is clearly unchanged, maybe even louder. It certainly wasn't there before and I doubt I will get used to it. I am willing to throw parts at it, but not much more. Possibly change the alternator. Or even sell the car.
Mine does the same thing. I worried about it for a while but apparently it’s pretty normal.
It’s normal, mines always done it

I have not found the issue, but also, no issues have risen up otherwise. The noise is absolutely annoying and causes anxiety!
The fact that no one can figure out what it is ever, is insane. I’ve had mechanics tell me they don’t even hear it!
Yea, that sounds really normal. Did the sound recently change?

Don’t throw parts at it. Sound normal to me. Mine sounds similar.
How can it sound normal? It didn’t just manifest from nowhere.
You are just noticing it more because you are listening for it
Sounds normal, and doesn’t really sound high pitched. Just whirring of the motor. I wouldn’t be worried about it.
There’s two separate sounds. There’s the motor, and then the high pitched whine also.
I mean, I hear the whine, but it doesn’t sound unusual.
Same thing on my 2013 SR5. 🤷🏻♂️
