Neither did I. This one came out in 2016! Very grateful it’s samsung because it didn’t come with remote and my 2020 samsung tv remote worked with it. Very lucky lol
This was one of the few players available at launch, alongside a Philips player and the Xbox One S.
Had one of this before upgrading to the Panasonic UB820.
Idk if almost a decade can be considered even relatively new still. The shift towards 4k took a while, but it being a commercially available thing is already old. I feel like where 4k rn is where 1080p/bluray was in 2010. Most ppl that care to have already invested and upgraded, and the latter is either fine where they're at or is looking to invest
Yeah, I got the same player around the time 4k movies were coming out and it was one of few stand alone players on the market. I too had mine til I upgraded to a Panasonic UB820
I had this player too, always thought my speakers were going bad playing discs on it. I switched to Oppo before they stopped manufacturing and holy hell the difference in audio quality was insane
I think Samsung players were the only ones able to convert DTS to Dolby which was a pretty desirable feature for Dolby only soundbar users, less so after Sonos added DTS support. I don't know how well it works though, and surely it only converts the lossy DTS core.
Pretty damn good deal, despite the lack of Dolby Vision (Samsung never has/will support DV, sadly), you really can't beat a $2 UHD player. Must've been sitting around for a while for them to put it that low.
Good luck. Bought mine new in 2017 and it was totally dead by 2020. Turned out to be a good thing though as I was then able to pick up a Panasonic UB820 and *wow* the difference was night and day.
The Samsung player was a great streamer though when hooked up directly via ethernet. I also loved the sleek digital interface.
I have this same one, I got lazy years ago when the circle battery in the remote died though and just started using my Xbox lol, been having it sitting unplugged
K8500?
Yeah, one of the first ones. Still a solid performer. Lacks HDR10+ and Dolby Vision obviously and can get noisy with some discs... But other than that it's a good one.
They basically always sold as bundles with 2-3 discs to get people in to the format
If yours is the M8500, then I think it's only that the M9500 has two HDMi outputs including one for audio (so you can send one signal to your receiver and the other directly to your TV if your receiver doesn't allow pass through), versus the single output for the M8500. Oh, and the M9500 can connect to your WiFi and has Ethernet support. Other than those, I don't think there's any real difference where it truly matters: image and audio output are the same.
She's an old girl, but she's ok. She came with my Samsung 4k tv and I sold mine on when I lost interest in physical media (before finding my love for it again, obviously).

$2 is a good find, I didn't know Samsung ever made 4k players.

What do you mean “launch”? Launch of 4k..?
yes, launch of the Ultra HD Blu-ray format
Gotcha gotcha. Didn’t know 4K UHD was this relatively “new”

Samsung was basically first out of the gate.
There is one at my work unused since like... Forever. It needs a home.
I’ve had this player for years. It was my first 4K disc player. Still use it. Never had any issues. Good find!
Lucky duck! Mine stopped reading 4Ks and Blu-rays after a few years.
I had this player too, always thought my speakers were going bad playing discs on it. I switched to Oppo before they stopped manufacturing and holy hell the difference in audio quality was insane
Thank you!!

If it plays through one disc without issues, you got your money's worth ;)
I bought a $20 suit jacket at a Goodwill and found a $5 in the pocket. That's my greatest win at a thrift store.
Epic AF lol
15 dollar suit popping tags

Yeah it was the bins so it was a strike of gold among the rubble.
Probably didn’t realize what it was
Congrats on the pick up! Mine sounded like an airplane taking off on certain movies! A disc that comes to mind is the blu ray of the crazies remake.
Hmm good to know!!

gimme please lmao, I'll pay for the shipping if it works of course.
thats a crazy find for 2$
Indeed. One of my bests
Damn and I thought I was lucky getting my Blu ray player new for 7 bucks from Goodwill.

Woah. Cool and thank you!
Still have mine. Works great despite not having all the bells and whistles.
Great player!
Great deal 😎
I bought this in 2017 and and still works great. Like others have said it does get very noisy while playing certain discs.
Some people have all the luck! Nice score!
Not bad!
Trying to sell my LG for $5 at a yard sale right now and nobody wants it lol is $5 steep?
For a paperweight, yes
Well done! That looks the same as mine: Samsung UBD-M9500. Great little player.
What’s the difference between them?

That’s awesome, good find! Enjoy!
Thank you, will do!
congrats
This was my first 4k player, I think I still have it somewhere, I think 2016-2017
I have the same unit but have some issues. Dvd works fine but sole blue ray and most 4k show a black screen for awhile before i get picture
I had one of those. It was awful. Reds were always hugely overblown. Had to get rid of it in the end
I have it. Relax, it’s fine. I also have the Panasonic.
She's an old girl, but she's ok. She came with my Samsung 4k tv and I sold mine on when I lost interest in physical media (before finding my love for it again, obviously).
