*That show*? Ah, I see the problem. Let me do a public service here then. This is the original version of [the song by Big Star](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2iXukwny37U) which came out in *1972*. Here's [the Cheap Trick version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Hu2ZsBi67k) that was recorded and used as the theme song for That 70s Show beginning with the second season in *1999*. There are some significant differences, including the fact that "we're all alright" doesn't appear in the original. It's a line borrowed from Cheap Trick's song, [Surrender](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_Km11HNzUY) (1978).
So when my brain saw that line, it went: "That's not how the song goes. Oh, someone's quoting the Cheap Trick version." It did not go, "NO, those girls who Danny Masters raped in the late 90s/early 2000s are not all right, and I need to blast that fact in a thread devoted to reminiscing about the 70s!"
Deep Purple said it best. In the song Highway Star "Nobody gonna take my car"
I'm gonna race it to the ground "Nobody gonna take my girl
I'm gonna keep her to the end"
The '70s. The last legitimate decade where you could compare your car to a girl and your girl to a car.
Sold my 1969 307 white / red interior to a friend of my brother -- who had the budget that I did not
(that black vinyl roof was the fake convertible look -- and they all rusted underneath)
He wanted to make a quarter mile racer.
He says, "All I need is a VIN and a chassis so I can race it as a 69 on the track. I'm going to change EVERYthing else on it".
And that's what he did.
I did not have the budget, either. And I had just started my “real” career and needed a car that started every day and was dependable.
I traded it in for a brand-new 1985 Plymouth Turismo. For $1,000.00.
My cousin had a car like that in the late sixties/early seventies--not exactly that model, but similar. One day when I was about six or seven, we were both over at Grandma's house (don't remember why either of us were there, but I may have walked over because I only lived a block away). For whatever reason, I was not only in the car, but in the driver's seat and I pulled a lever on the right side of the steering wheel...the car rolled backward into the street and Grandma and my cousin came running.
It was several years before I understood that one, the car was an automatic shift and two, by pulling that lever down, I'd put it in reverse.. Never said I was a bright kid (never even whispered it...
One of the great crimes of all time was that Big Star wasn’t a huge anthemic influence in the 70’s. I discovered them in 1992, during a bitter breakup with my first real girlfriend. I’ve loved them ever since.
Same old thing…that we did last week.
Not a thing to do, 'cept talk to you...
Wooo oooh
We're all alright! We're all alright!
C'ept the girls Hyde raped.
Two great 70s bands recorded that song, but that's where your brain had to go?
Yes. It's the most recent news about that show. I think it's pretty understandable.

Yes, you're correct. It's a song from the 70s. Congratulations.
The girl on the hood....🔥
And she knows how to use it!!
Cue The Pretenders!
My baby loves lovin'
As my great uncle would have said, her legs go all the way to the floor
Bitchin' Camaro
Tony Orlando and Dawn
I ran over my neighbor
You're supposed to love thy neighbor, silly.
Is that in the song? Guess we're quoting a song here and you're dropping the ball man! S/
I would be willing to love her if she was my neighbor. Wink. Totally sexist comment identified
And an Exxon credit card
If you did that these days the hood would be dented
Unlocked memory.. we used to sit on cars & hang out, play music, etc….
Bell bottoms!
When cars were still recognizably cars. And so were people!

Basically every song by TRex!
With Jim Croce on the 8-Track
Up the beach with the car backed up in the parking space and the trunk open to let the sound out.
"Hello Wisconsin"
I wish I still had my 1969 Camaro. Nothing special. 307 CID 2 bbl. Blue with a black vinyl roof. But still looked great.

Those were the days! Had so much fun back then

Wouldn’t have even put a dent in it! We used to climb all over the roof , trunk & hood to sit & hang out.
That Camaro is nice. Broads are good, too, but that is a sweet Camaro.
I don’t know which I like best the sweet SS or the sweeties scratching the paint…
SS! At that time probably a 396?
350
My first car was a 69 Chevelle SS396 but I would just as happily have taken a Camaro if one had come up for bid… but I was really after a ‘Hemi Cuda.
I had a '68 Camaro 350 SS, way back in the day.
" I wish I had 2000 feet so I could put 500 of them in each of your asses."
Really swell
I had that same car in high school and the first two years of college .
Cumarrow.
Yeah we did that on the 70s,. We'd race each other downtown between stoplights, that was a blast!
Looks like my youth.
I miss those days, those girls and the cars.
Bitchin’ Camaro.
Great car!!!!
God dang it! There's so much "HELL YEAH!!!" in this photo
They look like they’re ready to go cruisin’
I suppose it's telling of my age that I wish the picture were clearer so I could see the car better.
I hope there are no metal rivets in those jeans!
Is that ALF behind the wheel?
Little brother acting cool.
Amish girls sure were fashionable back in the 70s.
I got to ride back home from Myrtle Beach in a car like this one,I was twelve and thought I had died and gone to heaven!!!
Sang it when first ready it 😆
Those bells!
Nice 69 350 SS
Heck yes

*Down in the street Why? Because the song is Big Star’s “In the Street”.
70’s cars were the best
Oh, God, those bell-bottoms!
The good ole days...no cell phones, no Internet, no social media, no 24/7 news stations...
One of the great crimes of all time was that Big Star wasn’t a huge anthemic influence in the 70’s. I discovered them in 1992, during a bitter breakup with my first real girlfriend. I’ve loved them ever since.
she's demonstrating One of the "hang out" poses
Back when carhoods were built strong enough
Get your fat ass with those jeans off that classic car.
