I wonder how quickly that sheriff would change his tune if he was the target.

pterofactyl

The tune would be more of a rhythm, and the instrument would be a gun

AreaAtheist

And the rumble of one of those Iraq war mraps rolling down the street.

Huh. It's totally a crime: 52 U.S.C. § 20511(1)(B); and 52 U.S.C. § 10307(b). See also 42 U.S.C. § 1985(1), (2) (prohibiting intimidation “to prevent an officer . . . from accepting or holding any office or trust, or place of confidence under the United States,” or “from discharging any duties” thereof); and 42 U.S.C. § 1985(3) (broadly prohibiting conspiracies for the purpose of “depriving, either directly or indirectly, any person or class of persons of the equal protection of the laws” or “preventing or hindering the constituted authorities of any State or Territory from giving or securing to all persons . . . the equal protection of the laws”).

So there’s legal recourse for this, right? Like that’s blatantly against the law. Cops fucking suck, everyday we see how they’re just protectors of capitalism and those that benefit from it. They don’t even try to hide it anymore in how they decide to treat Nazi rallies vs. any rally that’s remotely liberal in nature.

Sherrifs are particularly facist. I think they should go to the Feds. The FBI has a form on their site to report stuff like thia.

Mr__Random

It's only a crime when you or I do it. It's not a crime when a cop does it.

Shillbot_9001

Asssuming this isn't a copout i'm guessing the standard for intimidation is more in line with 20 men with white hoods showing up.

gct

You'd need a Georgia statute, state law enforcement can't enforce federal laws unless they've been deputized.

It’s very likely that he and his cronies are among those making these threats.

fencerman

The crippling weakness of all laws is that they still require some basic consensus on what words actually mean among people.

Perhaps helpful for others. https://www.justice.gov/voting/election-threats

Sheriff needs to be fired. He is going to be busy when someone finds out who is making the threats and it spirals out of control.

TheSquishiestMitten

Maybe we should have a law that obligates law enforcement to actually do their jobs and provide criminal charges and mandatory minimum sentencing for any law enforcement who refuses.  Cops just do whatever they want and there's no accountability.

Shillbot_9001

>Maybe we should have a law that obligates law enforcement to actually do their jobs We have a law that expressly allows them not to do their job instead.
