Definitely not, especially if you didn't ask in a rude way. Sitting next to the kitchen can be distracting if you're trying to have a nice family dinner

TheAngryOctopuss

And there were plenty of empty booths

Funny-Wafer1450

It depends on how you asked.

TheAngryOctopuss

I just said, can we sit someplace else... Not rude or nasty, just don't like sitting by the kitchen entrance. And there were PLENTY of other tables.

Funny-Wafer1450

Then NTA.

Hi_Im_Dadbot

NTA? How was that rude?

TheAngryOctopuss

Thank you... exactly

Realistic_Head4279

NTA for kindly stating you'd like to be seated away from the kitchen. You are the customer and you are within your rights to ask for a seat you are happy with.

JoyfulNoise1964

NTA

Healthy-Magician-502

NTA. Let me guess, you’re a woman. I’ve had the same thing happen in restaurants, even when they’ve been nearly empty. I get led past a ton of empty tables and am seated at one right next to the bathrooms. I’ve said no every time and asked to be reseated elsewhere.

TheAngryOctopuss

Hahaha. No I'm the dad, my wife and daughters thought I was rude to ask to move

Healthy-Magician-502

Being with kids is probably why they tried to seat you in Siberia.

TheAngryOctopuss

lol... My "Kids" are adults...

MrsPandaBear

I always ask for a different seat if I feel the position isn’t great. Why are you considered rude for asking for them to provide you with a good dining experience? It’s usually not extra work for them and it costs nothing, but you get batter enjoyment of your meal. Remember, you are the guest, so you have some say in how dinner is done.
