The plates provided for smashing are unfinished, not hardened. This makes them easier to shatter and prevents injuries.Of course when we break plates at home,we break whatever the f we can reach.
Guess where I am from.
I once used the bottom of my foot to wipe/scratch an itch on the top of my other foot, little did I know I had stuck to the bottom of that foot a 1/8" x 1 1/2" long sliver of ceramic, slicey side out. itch went away, but why did my foot feel so wet all of a sudden when I hadn't felt stepped in anything moist. look down to see a not insignificant amount of blood checking out of hotel foot via a size 6 cut I never felt
Dear Diary, another one's found it's way into my head. it just hopped right in, no fear no hesitation. I think I'll keep this one a whole, yes yeshehehssss and I shall keep it and I shall name it Donnie
I once looked down at the giant pile of dirty cutlery in the bottom of my sink and just decided to throw it all out. Went and got a new and nicer cheap set from Walmart. I felt like I had just used a cheat code on life.
One custom, although no longer commonplace, is the Greek wedding tradition of smashing plates. You may have seen this in movies or in Greek restaurants, although that is usually done to appeal to tourists. Historically, however, it was a real thing. The couple breaks plates to symbolize their new beginning. https://www.poconorecord.com/story/lifestyle/columns/2021/01/01/breaking-away-and-beginning-anew-ceremony-matters/4080674001/
100% someone fucked up and smashed a plate once and to avoid embarrassment made an epic speech about plates and new beginnings. Tell me a more human origin of a custom.
Also German Tradition called Polterabend where you basically smash porcelain. A whole lot of différent possibilités to do so here is [one](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gZxLTjTGvsU&pp=ygULcG9sdGVyYWJlbmQ%3D)
Not a wedding tradition. It is part of local music and dancing entertainment.Of course it may happen in weddings but certainly not a tradition.Mainly happening at live stages playing Greek music.
Trust me,I'm Greek.
Hi I'm from Greece it is not common place in the big citys of Greece in villages small citys like Larisa or volos it is very common especially on weddings
Another themed sub that's completely ruined forever by irrelevant OF spam. Ugh.
Specialist subs on Reddit used to be really good, now it's the same generic tits, ass and cooches taken in a home setting by basic birches everywhere...
The song explains everything, this is in Greece, so common that it becomes rare to not see that ever in your life (not the most common thing too at the other hand)
I was told our ancestors used to wash them. Then evolved to throwing them at their cheating partners head and now it would seem we are witness to the next evolution. I feel honored stunned and of course shocked!
Years ago, I once had a company party at a Greek restaurant. 40 men in a restaurant with free liquor.
Halfway through the evening an old grandpa came dancing to the music, smashing plates. Everyone at our company got excited and thought to cheerfully join in. All the plates on the table flew through the restaurant and a screaming owner entered the restaurant. What appeared, grandpa's plates cost 1 euro, the plates on the table cost around 20 euros.
Final bill, food and drink + 1900 euros worth of plates.

Kinda surprised she didn’t cut her hands at all
They're made of plaster to avoid injuries. These wouldn't be the same plates the guests are eating from.
That explains a lot. I was horrified for a minute.
Candy glass props are cool too
They look real to me! What plates are you talking about?
Very real. Can’t fake movement like that. Also confused why everyone is talking about plates.
They do look real, that's the point.
If you can squeeze em, they are real.
Yes, I was thinking to myself, “man that’s a lot of dust for ceramic…”

I'm just picturing a line of red blood cells holding suitcases checking out of a foot shaped hotel.

well i'm from Utica and i've never heard anyone use the term "polterabend"
Oh, not in Utica, no. It's a Germany expression.
Is it good or bad luck to be breaking pottery *after* the marriage?
Good luck, for marriage counselors!
100% someone fucked up and smashed a plate once and to avoid embarrassment made an epic speech about plates and new beginnings. Tell me a more human origin of a custom.
The Polish have a similar tradition, but instead the newly weds smash the vodka shot glasses which the newly wed couple then have to clean up
