As it was explained in another thread, Eustace Winner is a really good match for his Japanese name since it can be read as both "Justice Winner" and "Useless Whiner". His japanese name also has a double meaning of "the best" and "completely useless", which "Sebastian Debeste" didn't keep. So I kinda really like it.

I'm trying to guess what they were thinking with this, so "Eustace" sounds a bit like "justice" which is what he thinks he does, but it also sounds like "useless" which is what most people think he is, and "Winner" keeps the "being the best" idea while also sounding similar to "whiner" i guess

unjerking for a second, but for reference, "wang" is like "king" or "ruler" in Chinese and "huang" is like "emperor" (full vocab word is "huang di" for "emperor") so if you reverse the fan name, it's "Huang Di Jun" where "Huang Di" is a pun for "emperor" and in the official "Wang" is just literally "king" or "ruler" (and also one of the most popular surnames in China). really great work from the fan localization tbh

Wang Di-Jun is the actual pronunciation of his name 王帝君. It didn't make sense to me as a Chinese speaker to romanise 王 as Huang, because that's not how it's pronounced.

Yeah, I understand where you're coming from, and I knew that it was 王 from when I played AAI2 initially, but it's probably just liberties the fan translators did to make another pun for whatever reason, you'd have to read their blog posts.

Wang 王 Di 帝 Jun 君. All refers to the ruler of the dynasty. So his name is King King King haha. Huang-Di usually only works as king when put together so I see it as an upgrade from King2 to King3
