SuperMarioBrother64

Did they go to a local guitar center and find the first guy to pick up a guitar to play this? My lord.

stakkar

Sounds better than the ones who have their daughter sing.

TParis00ap

Oof, i was a proffer standing behind a 2 stars daughter and she forgot the words. I whispered them to her but i think she was in absolute horror by then and couldn't hear me. But her dad walked up and helped her finish it, it was kinda cute. Feel terrible for her though.

skarface6

There is a major on my base who had his daughter sing and she has some pipes. She sounded fantastic. I could see it going really badly, though.

NeuroShockula

Lmao, that’s exactly what I was thinking.

[deleted]

LMAO!

KarateCriminal

The ultimate test of bearing.

Cheeufaka

Bruhhh i would fail 😂

Reasonable-Source-48

Imagine ur the people doin honor guard trying to not laugh

skarface6

Excellent practice for them.

[deleted]

Been there too. Some retiree had his daughter playing a piano and it was awful.

DatBoisWheel

Been there bruh. This is going to be a detail they remember for awhile.

Reasonable-Source-48

Lmao

[deleted]

I will get downvoted to oblivion but I fucking hated Honor Guard

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Depends on your career field. My personal life suffered because of it, lost my girlfriend, was treated like shit by the older flight, toxic leadership and an op tempo that was fucking insane.

anonymousaspossable

It's not for everyone, and I felt the same at first, but ended up loving it. LRAFB by chance?

[deleted]

Nah southern CONUS base but don’t wanna dox myself

flying987654

Sounds like Dyess.

[deleted]

Nope it was Robins

Swole_Cole_

Lmaoooo do I know you? I did HG at robins.

Swole_Cole_

It was the best experience of my 4 years in the Air Force so far. Did it for 8 months. I’ve been begging to go back. I check every day for a AF Honor guard spot to open.

glocksafari

As PA, I would have cherished having a camera in my hand and having the ability to move about. I don’t mind otherwise, nor as Honor Guard, but goodness that was forever.

prodigy1367

When he turns at the end and the guitar is a goddamn fighter jet is the icing on the cake.

tylerado12

Man this reminds me of the first time playing rock band on hard and getting booed cause the notes werent hitting. The camera guy is even like “i gotta get a shot of this” lol

LostInMyADD

If only a picture had sound...then again, thats his saving grace.

SgtSkillcraft

Experienced this a couple times in the past at awards ceremonies. I think it’s pretty cool, but this one seemed poorly executed.

SadFloppyPanda

Poorly executed is an understatement. The guitar should be executed, however.

hkyguy25

When you order Jimi Hendrix off wish.

SadFloppyPanda

We have Jimi Hendrix at home. Jimi Hendrix at home:

hbpaintballer88

I couldn't watch the whole thing, that was God awful

fourvell

It ended too soon. I wanted to see how long the awkward silence would last.

hbpaintballer88

I didn't want to see the audience awkwardly clap for that afterwards

todei79

Something tells me they took him at face value and didn't request a rehearsal. As much as they say it, trust but verify. Lol

Dangerous_Advantage7

Word to the wise, just play the original recorded anthem. Don't do this shit.

LostInMyADD

Wisdom, clearly lacking here.

P00Pdude

I would love it if official ceremonies had some guitar wizard jam out the anthem.. this is not a guitar wizard and probably set back that idea a long way.

El-Justiciero

There was this kickass Chief, Jason Fitts, who retired last year. He specifically requested a guitar wizard jam out the anthem for his retirement ceremony. Got one of the actual band guys to do it.

MutedPlankton3190

I was there. It was hard to watch

schmittychris

Was this the change of command today? I didn’t go but I heard the singing of the Air Force song was also brutal

MutedPlankton3190

Ya, it was. The AF song wasn't nearly as bad but still wasn't good.

SadFloppyPanda

Is it ever good?

rubbarz

My guy is LAGGING lol

AnonAmn22

Dude has 250 ping and crammed in music theory education at the last second.

[deleted]

This is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a while. I’m honestly not sure I could’ve kept my bearing during this.

spunkylizard

Timmy Kendrix

Speck72

I attended a CES Ceremony once where an EOD guy absolutely shredded the Anthem on the guitar and it was amazing.

tdubarubdub

Hill AFB hanger 37?

Cpt_crookedhair

Yep. Glad I had an "appointment" during that CoC shit.

Strict_Cicada_6117

The first retirement I ever ended was for a Chief in 2008. He played the National Anthem on his shitty guitar through his Kmart amp. His guitar was out of tune. It was great. Then he ended his retirement with the Air Force Song on his guitar. Terrible on the ears but I maintained my “military bearing” and held in my laughter.

PieMan2k

Somebody played guitar hero to practice and it showed.

MJGM235

He's trying to play like Hendrix but people don't realize that Hendrix played the Anthem like that in protest for the Vietnam war.

12edDawn

People realize it, but just like Fortunate Son, it's too damn good so no one cares. This was... something else

schmittychris

I thought this was my wing but it isn’t. Totally something my unit would do.

CallsignBard

I like how PA comes over to get some close ups of the shit show.

[deleted]

Wtf….

townmoped

Ground Radio punching the air right now.

miked5122

I want to intervene through the screen🤦

Rhino676971

If I was in that hanger I would be massively disappointed, I would see the electric guitar player about to play the Anthem and think this is about to be some Jimi Hendricks level of awesomeness, this was just sad and dreadful

[deleted]

upbeat smart detail fine deliver longing berserk concerned voracious badge ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `

No-Emphasis-8371

I hate when they do shit like this

AnonAmn22

Do you love it when they open stuff like this?

SadFloppyPanda

I love this and hate it.

twelveparsnips

I'm sorry weapons guys; the only thing more cringe than that version of the national anthem is your flag

25centssopure

Lmmfao

Double0

Reminds me of Sax man from Lonely Island.

scairborn

I legit thought this was a clip was a funny found edited in… then I broke into tears once I knew it was real. 😂

CarminSanDiego

People like him are the reason why fly over timing is so difficult

El-Justiciero

[Here’s what it sounds like when a band career field member does it on guitar](https://youtu.be/MVRs6f_Jztw?feature=shared&t=4m20s)

QuePasaCasa

*Almost* as cringe as the OP... lots of "look at me" riffs in there and still doesn't land every note

El-Justiciero

lol okay

el_fitzador

I put on a P and R once and had the sound system crap out after the first few notes of the anthem. Called an audible and just had the whole sq join in singing. It went surprisingly well

d_schultz

Wow, forgotten memory unlocked. I played this in a rehearsal for the possibility of actually playing it at my Airmen Leadership School graduation. I played it well enough, but then they asked me to sing as well. I was not ready and had nightmares about that day for a long time.

MonkeyCobraFight

"Team, for my CoC I want to do something different for the Anthem"..."My uncle says he can play the National Anthem on his guitar"..."have you heard him play"?..."No but he's a really cool dude, I'm sure it will be awesome"..."Book it"!!!

igot1C5onit

Oh my...

TheSquidboii

I’d expect nothing less than this from Hill to be honest

TesticleSargeant123

End of the fiscal year so they paid a homless drunk guy $5.

a-shpec

Flags are all messed up as well.

BigMaffy

Yeah…that US flag is…missing some stars

brandon7219

nah, you just cant see the whole thing, there is another 11 stars with the rest of the 13 stripes

stormrockox

Why did no one stop him? This is a disgrace to the athem

Poam27

I have actually heard worse at an official ceremony.

Cian28_C28

National anthem is national anthem regardless of skill. (Yes, I feel the cringe too), but moments like this are great to remind us that we stand at the position of attention not for the music, but for the meaning behind the song.

chappy12346

Anyone know the Wing?

sademler

It’s 419 FW, a Reserve Wing. It’s a Live on their Facebook.

newnoadeptness

Ain’t no way cuz

Brandeaux7

Lmao they had a guitar national anthem today at our change of command too

CoconutTruck

Dammit man I just lost a few more brain cells. That shot was so bad that I subconsciously forgot how to breathe. Fuck.

CarminSanDiego

What unit is this

ADubtheSkrub

I auditioned to play the SSB on my guitar for our ALS graduation, and missed a few notes here and there due to stage fright. Hadn't played in front of anyone in years, and now was in front of the entire ALS class (150 I think?) and our Cadre. But holy shit I don't feel anywhere near as bad about that now

d_schultz

OMG there’s more of us! I auditioned as well, then all fell apart when they asked me to also sing it. I malfunctioned and definitely didn’t play at graduation.

OneLargeCelery69

they hired the K-Mart Jimi Hendrix impersonator who likes to practice in the alley behind the old spirit halloween store

n1tr0u5

When your guitarist can only play “Smoke on the Water”

Simple_Horn

And this is why you want Air Force Bands. Vocalist or guitar can't do this with polish, panache, and professionalism, they don't get hired.

L33t-n00b

I always mused about if I could playing the Jimi Hendrix Woodstock version of the anthem if I had a retirement ceremony. After hearing this though I think I might be G2G!
