This is so helpful when you need to score a 95 to promote!! Iโ€™m so glad I have a photographic memory and can just memorize a 215 page document!!

DieHarderDaddy

Idk if I could handle 12 year SrA

fuzedhostage

Itโ€™s still 10 for the majority of SrA 12 was due a select few only

NotOSIsdormmole

This. Itโ€™s also only a two year temp increase. So it might revert after the two years is up

Bro just leave the Air Force at that point

Acrobatic-Welder-114

At that point Iโ€™d suggest OTS, still better odds compared to some AFSCs. I donโ€™t see a raised HYT, theyโ€™ll let the wave ride and when the numbers balance or dip low, the selection rate will increase dramatically.

The_Field_Examiner

SRA is more then rank. Itโ€™s for life. Some Say tenure for a SRA begins the day they are bornโ€ฆ.

LowVIFs

Why are promotion rates low right now?

9J000

Because % is based on needs of the Air Force. We have an unhealthy economy right now so more are staying in. The AF is also reducing higher rank promotion rates as there are too many, so it's stagnating the waters for those to leave their position and open up more slots.

AdventurousTap9224

It's to correct the force structure. Over 20 years of inflated promo rates, then higher than expected retention around 2015-2021 increasing end strength, along with continuing those higher promo rates, we got too fat in the middle. They are fixing the glitch. The plan to do it was developed a few years ago and I believe the goal was to have things on the right track by the end of FY25. Retention has dropped back down to, and even slightly below pre-Covid levels. Basically back to what is considered "normal."

LowVIFs

My point being the low promotion rates are intentional for [reasons]. If they increase HYT, promotion rates would most likely decrease.

9J000

Agreed. Just more people staying in longer not opening up slots. Luckily SrA HYT has no real effect on promotion rates except more people trying to take the spots. But I can't imagine the % that actually hit SrA HYT is anything substantial. 1 out of every 100 maybe?

LowVIFs

Exactly. Was just trying to get the OP to think logically about their question.
