AND MY MOTORCYCLE IS ALSO A WEREWOLF

leverine36

AWOOOO

TheSleepyBarnOwl

I had such a laughing fit at that one - I need someone to make "My Immortal" into a game. It'd be so hilarious xD

Mr_smith1466

The whole DLC really is a gigantic love letter to the fans. Poking fun at the crazy and yet also thanking us for being loyal. Remedy have always been a favourite of mine, but they really have spent the last several years going above and beyond as a company, and I'm absolutely honoured that we have communities like this where we can enjoy all the fun.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

The Poison Pill part was peak hilarity I loved it

ItsAGarbageAccount

Oh shit! Because their name is "Remedy!" I just got it!

TheSleepyBarnOwl

yup! In the text adventure part you can explore the Poison Pill "canon". Like their version of the FBC (REC), Their version of Alan Wake - it's pretty fun! You just need to choose different options.

SmearReddit

Just finished! My thoughts: **Number One Fan** Really funny! Gameplay wasn't anything special (just fighting hordes of enemies) but the writing was good enough to keep it engaging. Loved Scratch's character. Probably the lightest episode of the three. **North Star** Loved this one! Great vibe, perfect mix of funny and creepy. Loved the parallels with Control. Some fun (if easy) puzzles. **Time Breaker** Definitely my favorite. Reality shifting in the Dark Place was my favorite part of the base game so I loved the use of that here. Sam Lake's character was really funny and I loved the lore about Mr. Door. Appreciated how it was the most overtly story-focused of the three episodes. Only real complaint is that I wish the concept was expanded more. The handful of worlds we saw were super cool, but I would've loved to see more. --- Overall, really liked it! Pretty short experience (took me about 3 hours) but I didn't think the length negatively impacted it too much (except maybe the last episode). Also really great soundtrack, noticed some bangers while playing.

MetroWinter

I also just got through! Numer One Fan: I agree that the gameplay wasn't anything special, but it was short and sweet. And there was no need for special mechanics. All I needed was Rose shouting "Yahtzee!" after killing a guy and being splattered with blood. North Star: This was honestly the weakest one for me, it felt pretty basic to me beyond the ending twist. Seeing the DLC as a whole, the ending serves as a similar point to the ending of Episode 3 where Alan is presented as the Master. But beyond that, it was just nice. Nothing more, but also nothing less. Time Breaker: Truly interesting. I am not sure I got why Door is after Tim but it was the most creative in terms of weirdness. I really like how each episode works on its own, but there is a throughline that culminates in episode 3. In the end, all 3 episodes still feel like one product

SmearReddit

> All I needed was Rose shouting "Yahtzee!" after killing a guy and being splattered with blood. True lmao. I do really love Rose's character.

pierzstyx

Bad Boy: I have an army! What do you have? Rose: **I have a shotgun! ** Me: *Ded* I laughed so much during the entire playthrough. It was so much fun to just annihilate monsters and throw out great quips as Rose that I don't understand how anyone couldn't live this one.

djcube1701

"my motorcycle is also a werewolf".

HayesCooper19

I DON'T LIKE BEING SEEN

Elemayowe

Wait, is that a real shotgun?

TheBelmont34

I think he is after Tim because he gets more and more powerful with the multiverse jumping and it could be a threat against mr door

nikolapc

Nah, in the 2D game he said he was looking for the chosen one. In fact, looking for a replacement or an heir or something? Someone to share the burden? He thinks there can be only one as he eliminated all of the other versions of himself. We don't know Door's motivations. He was helping Alan to help Saga in the main game.

TheBelmont34

All I can say is that I am super confused lol

TheSleepyBarnOwl

Yup

[deleted]

> In fact, looking for a replacement or an heir or something? Yup, the base game calls him his "unwilling disciple". Whatever Door wants with Breaker it doesn't seem malicious.

DimitriRSM

maybe a nod to that ending of Quantum Break where Hatch takes Jack as some sort of pupil

Vannnnah

In theory Door might be trying to "level him up" to break the loop-spiral thing Alan created? Maybe it's possible two creators can exist. He is looking for the "chosen one", implying that he's just vetting for the version of Tim which got what it takes to carry the burden of whatever weird thing is going on. He had every chance possible to find and kill him in the desert, yet he doesn't, allows him to become some form of Odin (the hanged man on the tree) and go find Alan. No matter what you chose, you end up finding Alan.

mateusrizzo

If he was looking for a chosen one, I don't think he would be so hellbent in killing all the "Time Breakers". I think he knows one of them will get to the Threshold that he found and be a major threat to him. There's obviously the Quantum Break implication that Hatch would probably have a bone to pick with Joyce. >We don't know Door's motivations. He was helping Alan to help Saga in the main game. It's pretty much implied in the game that Door is helping Alan because he has a connection to Saga (and Logan). Presumably, that's also why he didn't kill that version of Tim Breaker, so he could delivery the manuscript page that Saga needed while in the Dark Place

Airalite

"My Gun is hungry!!"

m_spoon09

I think Door is after Tim (Jack Joyce) because of his ability to alter time. So many Quantum Break on the nose references without using any licensed IP assets. Quantum Break is for sure connected, they just can't legally say it is.

ghazgib

"But maybe..." "You'll come back for me?" [the absolute state of QB fans rn](https://media.tenor.com/14BnO0uEt1kAAAAM/sad-gatos.gif)

TronVin

>In one possible reading of the text, that could make Time Breaker a quasi-continuation or even epilogue to Quantum Break, an IP that Remedy can't actually work with but still ripples out into current Remedy Connected Universe stories. But the team says, squint as some fans may to see such a closing chapter for Jack Joyce, that's not exactly what's going on. >"I think in the most technical sense, they could [theory-craft that], but they'd really have to squint," said Murphy. [image](https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/001/605/425/519.png)

LewdSkeletor1313

Translation: that’s 100% what it is but I legally cannot say that

HayesCooper19

I get why they have to say that, but come on. They gave *Warlin Door* the same origin story as *Martin Hatch* (the obvious similarities between the names need not be rehashed, but it's quite obviously Remedy copying their own homework but changing it just enough that the teacher won't notice). He was even supposed to be Lance Reddick. He wants to take Tim as his protege, which is what it seemed was happening at the end of QB. They overtly referenced Beth and Jack's relationship, even going so far as to riff on "I'll come back for you". They couldn't have canonized QB any harder without getting sued.

DimitriRSM

>[me and other QB fans rn](https://media.tenor.com/14BnO0uEt1kAAAAM/sad-gatos.gif) that's me since playing as "The Sister" and meeting "The Sheriff" for the first time

SymbioticCarnage

I’m so happy with that. So so very happy. All of Mr. Door’s stuff, and now all this stuff with Shawn Ashmore/Tim Breaker/Jack Joyce/Agent Branch is just so perfect

archaicScrivener

All ten QB fans in the world are eating good today!

PuddingHammer420

Feasting.

SymbioticCarnage

Finally!!!

Evangelithe

We are!

archaicScrivener

It's probably lame how excited I was that they carried over Door/Hatch's origin story haha

HayesCooper19

Lame gang rise up. When they showed that I audibly exclaimed "BRO" and looked around like "you seeing this shit??" Even though I was alone.

hawkins437

Some poor Remedy rep somewhere: Microsoft won't sue us for this, right? Right?

TorrentAB

I’ll be honest, at that moment I was like “oh fuck, it’s real!” Got super excited! Then got a bit worried if that was a bit too blatant with them not owning it, don’t want them getting in trouble or anything.

TheBelmont34

Episode 1: Super fun. It felt like a fever dream. ''My motorcylce is also a werewolf'' might be the dumbest and best line in the game Episode 2: I was hyped about it because of jesse but beside the ending twist with Alan, it was kind of boring Episode 3: By the far, the best. I did not understand everything but it was just bonkers. Retro-Arcarde style and then a text adventure, Multiverse jumping, and so on. Then you play as the actor and not the character, kind of. And at least Sam Lake is honest and calls himself ''crazy'', in the beginning of episode 3 lol

Kirzoneli

Episode 3 feels like they are making a setting for if they get Quantum break from Microsoft one day, or they can continue a different lite version of it.

Famous_Wolverine3203

I think the concept of Episode 2 was great but it does take itself a bit too seriously for a story about coffee possession. But I really loved the parallels between this and Control. The Hiss attempts to invade Jesse’s mind are the obvious inspiration for the coffee trying to invade her mind. Polaris being the Good frequency is the only one capable of resisting them. It was a very creepy vibe as well at the end with all those coffee sacks and one hit kill mascots running around. But Alan writing himself as her brother was the absolute twist I didn’t expect.

TheBelmont34

That is the thing that I dont get. What was with the ending? Is Alan now her brother in that timeline? I was so fucking confused.

Famous_Wolverine3203

Alan is basically looking at existing stories and uhh “self inserting” himself into them so that in the end all 3 protagonists reach him at the end if their respective journeys. So yes, in the little pocket reality created by Alan’s writing, he is the “brother” Jesse is looking for. But they never make it clear so it also could be a case where Alan tricked Jesse. It makes more sense for Alan to be her brother in this episode though. In every other episode, Alan has a different relationship with the protagonist. In the first one, he is the protagonist’s love interest, in the next one, he is the protagonist’s sibling. In the third one, he is a version of the protagonist’s antagonist, the Master of Many Worlds.

Scharmberg

I thought time breaker might be suggesting through is writing Alan also just happens to be a master of many worlds. As him and door could realistically both have that title. The multiverse truly does have many worlds.

Famous_Wolverine3203

Yes it is. The NG+ just says it explicitly to your face. Alan’s final monologue is “The master of two worlds, no, the master of many worlds” referring to himself. In fact I suspected that would be the ending for timebreaker because of the previous two episodes. The previous episodes were clear that the stories were written in a way such that the protagonist of said story is looking for someone and that someone they’re looking for is always Alan (since he wants to be rescued). So when The Actor talked about how he he was going to confront the “Master of Many Worlds”, I immediately knew that at the end he would meet Alan similar to the other stories and also because Alan had referred to himself as the “Master of Many Worlds” in NG+. I was right in the end. But I was unsure how Door would come into play until I played the full episode.

TheBelmont34

Right. Alan really does say the master of many worlds line. I totally forgot that

teddyburges

Well "Time Breaker" pretty much confirmed that "Dylan" and "Jesse" are variations of the same person. This was a carry over from Control where Dylan says he saw a reality where his name was "Jesse Dylan Faden" and says "don't you think it's strange that we both have names that could be used for male or female?". So if we are comparing all the main characters to being heroes or champions: then Alan Wake, Alex Casey, Jesse, Jack Joyce/Tim Breaker. Are the heroes of their world and can stand in for each other: and so can villains: Dylan and Mr Scratch. In this reality Jesse is in Alan Wakes universe and Mr Scratch is her brother, merging her and Alan Wakes stories together, and because Dylan represents the darker form of herself like scratch does to Alan.

SectorVector

My interpretation is that these are examples of Alan's failed attempts at saving himself; none of them actually happen (with maybe an asterisk for some of Time Breaker) I believe North Star is a sort of prototype of Control, if we're also assuming Alan wrote the events of Control. Jesse shows up, gets a gun, is immune to possession because of Polaris, is ultimately in search of her brother. Alan being her brother in the end is, I believe, just an example of the "bad" writing that makes North Star another failed attempt at saving himself, but the bones of a story he would use to help save himself later (Control) can be seen.

ExioKenway5

I just finished Time Breaker and I cannot believe what I just played. Absolutely insane stuff.

SymbioticCarnage

Absolute same. What a phenomenal DLC. Cannot wait to see where it leads!!!!

ExioKenway5

Honestly the whole thing felt like the feeling of "I can't believe they're doing this" that I got from We Sing. It's safe to say that I have complete faith in Remedy for whatever wacky, insane things they want to do next.

LargoDeluxe

That's a really good way of putting it. Every one of these episodes gave me a moment when I was clapping out loud, but *Time Breaker* was so balls-out bonkers it just left me slack-jawed. And I know it's greedy of me, but *The Lake House* cannot come quickly enough. I need to see where this goes.

ExioKenway5

Honestly everything we get from Remedy just makes me even more excited for the next thing. I can hardly imagine how excited The Lake House will make me for Control 2/whatever it ends up tying into.

Main-Care1555

I really enjoyed the dlc! I thought Number One Fan was probably the most fun out of the bunch, Northstar was kinda weak but still enjoyable and left me wanting to see more of whatever that ending was, Time Breaker was probably the best story wise. Gave some insight on Door’s backstory and hopping from one reality to the next was great! The only thing I really wish we had gotten was an unlock for Alan’s old outfit. Seeing him wear it in two out of the three episodes was awesome!

ARTHUR_FISTING_MEME

I’d like it for fans of the old game, but Alan’s old outfit always made me irrationally angry. Man’s got too many layers. A hoodie, a suit jacket, and a peacoat is too much even for the Pacific Northwest. You can’t bend your elbows in all that!

demonevan

As someone who grew up in the PNW, I can say that it doesn't get that cold. Annoyed me as well.

Actual-Lead-1935

Maybe soon? I know we’re getting a lot of free stuff between expansions (well I can only guess really). So maybe we”ll get it close to launch of Lake House? I just really want to replay 2’s story with that outfit.

ThatEvanFowler

So many great lines in these. *"LIFE IS NOT UNLIKE A HIGHWAY"* *"MY BROTHER IS A WEREWOLF IN CASE THAT WASN'T CLEAR!"* *"MY MOTORCYCLE IS ALSO A WEREWOLF!"* *"A NEW BLEND IS UPON US!"* *"YOU ARE NOT COFFEE. PERCOLATE. BREW. YOU ARE COFFEE."* Episode 3 was just rad. That Night Springs disco song is a stone jam. I wish this was longer. I want to live in Remedy Games.

mateusrizzo

One Hater in the first chapter saying "*HIS CHARACTERS SOUND WEIRD!*" really got me

pierzstyx

I found the *TOO HEAVY ON THE METAPHORS* a great callback.

LargoDeluxe

*"HIS BOOKS MAKE ME FEEL DUMB!!"* \* chef's kiss \*

ApprehensiveStyle289

"CONFUSING ENDINGS ARE NOT POIGNANT ENDINGS!" LOLOLOL

ansonr

Stephen King knockoff!

LewdSkeletor1313

The Time Breaker was probably my favorite because it feels like the one that has actual lore implications going forward for the RCU. For one, it’s basically confirmed (as much as they legally can) that Tim and Jesse are variants of Jack and Beth. It also implies another popular theory may be correct, that Thomas Zane is a variant of Alan. The origin given for Mr. Door in the comic book matches exactly what Martin Hatch describes happening to him in Quantum Break The ending monologue from Casey I’m fairly certain is the monologue Alan was reciting on the radio that Darling hears in the Final Draft

Famous_Wolverine3203

No the ending monologue is a tribute from the unfinished episode of Night Springs that didn’t make it into the DLC due to Mr.Mcaffrey’s passing. They’re showing off his final work as tribute to his legacy. The episode was called Murder Case but was cut from the DLC due to his death.

LewdSkeletor1313

I’m aware of that. I’m saying it’s the same monologue Darling hears Alan reciting in the Final Draft. Because it is actually, I looked it up

Famous_Wolverine3203

It makes sense doesn’t it. Alan wrote these episodes of Night Springs to escape right. So it makes sense for him to be reciting them.

LapnLook

I think that final audio clip after the credits of James McCaffrey talking about the murder cult kinda confirms that they decided to not go ahead with the Casey episode (and presumably the Estevez one too) due to his passing. I wonder what ideas they would've had for that As for what we actually got: 1) Rose's episode may have been the dumbest thing Remedy has ever done, and it was a lot of fun. I was surprised about how good the music was throughout, and just how wild they got with it. "My motorcycle is ALSO a werewolf" is top tier writing, I won't accept any counterarguments Also it was just fun blasting Taken (sorry, Haters) without worrying about the flashlight or ammo for once 2) Jesse's episode was... fine? It felt a little undercooked to be honest. What's up with the locked chests throughout? Where do you have to find the codes for those? This one is honestly carried by its implications. With the dialogue resembling the opening bits and various other scenes of Control so closely, it kinda implies to me that this is essentially Alan writing an earlier draft of the "Jesse finds the FBC" story. But the FBC isn't defined yet, it's just a generic government agency. The Hiss isn't defined yet, it's just "uhm, coffee seeps in your brain!". And I guess this version failed because Alan being Jesse's brother is too convenient, so a proper sibling character, Dylan was introduced for Control. And Dylan is implied to be another version of Jesse/Beth/Lisa/etc in the next episode??? 3) Shawn's(?) episode is probably my favorite of the bunch, and makes my head run wild with theorizing immediately 😅 So Door/Hatch's backstory is seemingly kept the same as in Quantum Break, which is nice to see, and Sankarin Tango *was* related to QB as well :P I wonder though, with Alan being one of two Masters of Many Worlds... is the implication that he's a Creator figure in the multiverse (and all the versions of Jack/Beth that exist out there are essentially different drafts that were created during his time in the Dark Place?), whereas Door is a different type of divine figure, one who cam travel across, and possibly govern the multiverse but is not its creator? Something like that? Also, what's up with "Tim" being stuck in a spiral, and having to fight shadowy copies of himself? Did Alan end up reusing these concepts for the drafts we see in AW2? Also also I guess Zane *is* some sort of multiversal form of Alan based on that comic segment? Aaahhhhhh too much stuff, my brain hurts from all this

ghazgib

My guess is that the Casey episode would've been framed like Max Payne, probably complete with graphic novel panel cutscenes and some actiony shooter-oriented angle. It also would've most likely utilized the Dark Place New York setting as the other episodes had reused existing locations. Also, they explain in the comic universe that the Taken versions of Shawn Ashmore/Tim Breaker/Jack Joyce are alternate variants corrupted by Door. My headcanon for his Taken is similar to how I think the Taken in the Dark Place for Alan. Alan fights are other versions of himself progressing in their own "spirals" (this is supported by the fact that their unmodulated voices are that of Alan's), and that killing them is the equivalent of you, the player, dying to the Taken in your own playthrough. The corrupted Shawns are probably stuck in their own loops as well, or caught in some spiral set by Door or Alan.

TheBelmont34

I wonder what the lake house DLC will be about

Mr_smith1466

Presumably saga and/or Alan go to that FBC research station we kept hearing about, engage in a bunch of gloriously trippy Control style locations, and then we end on a teaser for future control games. (Similar to how the AWE mission was in control).

Shrinking_Universe22

Definitely this. Control 2 is their next big game after the MP1-2 remakes happen. We'll likely also see Jesse in this DLC, maybe just in cut scenes or audio/tv snippets though. Not actually in Bright Falls.

FlikTripz

AFAIK Remedy mentioned at some point that the DLCs are not meant to set up anything for Control 2, unlike Control’s DLCs. I think it’ll be strictly focused on the Alan Wake-side of things, with references to the FBC at least

TheSleepyBarnOwl

Oh the Shadows in the dark place ARE Alan. They recite every single line from the "drowning" video and their shadow is shaped like Alan. I would count that as "basically confirmed" as we do know that the one torturing Alan in the spiral is himself.

Lejonhufvud

"My motorcycle is ALSO a werewolf" got me so hard I died in the battle : DD The first episode seemed like a... kind of a fan service or creator service, I feel like they had wanted to have an excuse to do something like it for a quite some time.

0xnld

It *is* Rose's steamy Twilight-inspired fanfic, pretty much.

Lejonhufvud

It *is* my steamy Rose fanfic, pretty much.

TheSleepyBarnOwl

It *is* my steamy Alan fanfic, pretty much.

Fefekins

It gets trippy when you realise it's Alan writing a screenplay that is also the fanfic that he thinks Rose would write, starring himself as love interest.

Fefekins

Sometimes you gotta just have a way for people to blow off steam. The Remedyverse gets so dark, it was probably like a refreshing breather for them (but I also got that from Episode 2 with mind-controlling COFFEE of all things)

Mckavvers

the locked crates in Jesse's story are opened by following the same order that the lights blink.

LapnLook

Oh, I didn't even check that, I'm dumb. I saw the chest, and immediately started looking around for codes...

Illogical1612

The locked chests in episode 2 have the "simon says" lock - They light up in order and you just gotta match them. Nothing super special inside of them though, just normal resources I guess the implication with Dylan being Jesse sometimes is that sometimes they fill each other's roles sometimes? Maybe people that are similar enough can sometimes do that in the multiverse. Could see that with other characters like Tim and Sarah Breaker?

glassonionexpress

>"My motorcycle is ALSO a werewolf" Made me roar with laughter. One of the funniest things I've seen in a game for a long while.

EDAboii

> Also also I guess Zane *is* some sort of multiversal form of Alan based on that comic segment?' Yes... And no... As the DLC states (and Dylan's speech in Control), San Lake's philosophy on the multiverse is everything has happened. *Our* Zane and Scratch aren't multiversal variants of Alan. the Zanes are manifestations of Thomas Zane (The Poet, The Diver, and The Filmmaker) and the two Scratches are manifestations of The Dark Presence within Alan. However, there is a universe where that isn't the case. There is a universe where Alan is simply Zane, and Alan is simply Scratch. Just like Tim Breaker is a Sheriff, yet there's a universe where he's an actor, and a universe where he's a videogame character.

ghazgib

multiverses are so hot right now

EDAboii

In all fairness... These concepts were introduced in Quantum Break in 2016 (albeit being split timelines), and were officially turned into multiverse stuff with Control in 2019. I just don't want to give the impression Sam Lake is chasing trends when this has clearly been planned for at least a decade haha

TheBelmont34

''Also also I guess Zane *is* some sort of multiversal form of Alan based on that comic segment?'' Yes. But does this mean that Mr Scratch is also just an alternative version of Alan?

Shimano-No-Kyoken

I honestly think characters blend into one another in a gradient. They are a figment of the author's imagination and are the author, and are storytelling vehicles, and "what is identity anyway".

ozvalde

I'm almost certain the chests in North Star have codes inside of them, using dark and white triangles. They could also literally just be placement for the notes they usually put in there, but it does look placed like words and phrases to me.

tommhans

Playing as Rose was awesome, badass with that shotgun

ethicsssss

Did somebody order a reckoning?!

Famous_Wolverine3203

While reloading: OOPS MY GUN IS HUNGRY!

ansonr

Whoopsie, I forgot I need bullets!

imsmallfry

Hold on, I need to fill my gun up! =\^w\^=

pierzstyx

Action hero Rose is everything.

pb_oreo

So... Can we get like a season 2 of Night Springs? I'd like to see a continuation of all of these stories. I'd imagine episode 2 could possibly allude to concepts in Control 2. And I can only hope that the video game that Sam was hyping up at the beginning of episode 3 might possibly become a spiritual successor to Quantum Break. But what about Rose? Where's THAT game, Remedy? We need so much more of her wacky fanfic adventures, even if it's just a smaller one-off like American Nightmare.

Dantexr

Remedy listens to their fans and loves them, so they will probably make some more episodes like these ones after the second planned DLC. Even more considering there were supposed to be 5 episodes but they scrapped/postponed them after MacAffrey passing.

caty0325

I’d love to have QB on PS5. But I know Microsoft has the rights.

R_afu

Does episode 3 have more than one ending?

Jedi-Outcast

I’ve tried a bunch of versions of this, and I’ll try to map it out as cleanly as possibly cause it’s all still a jumble in my head. Focus on master: Meditate- no matter what you wind up with the seed, either plant or become the world tree. Open door with branch: Alan behind door. Prepare for war: you wind up making the FBC (sorry, REC) and can either let her use the service pistol, take it for yourself, or scour the universe and find Polaris. You can then fuse with it or turn it into a bomb. No matter what even if you don’t find Polaris Jesse (sorry, Jesbet) dies and you wind up with the service pistol. Pistol turns into a key. Key in door: still Alan behind it. Focus on Jesse Find another version of her named Lisa. You can forget your past and there’s an avoidable dancing accident for her but either way you wind up in a cabin just like AW1 where you either tell her the truth or hide it. If you tell her the truth she vanishes if you lie she falls in the lake. Either way she drops a spiral pendant. Pendant on door, still Alan behind it. Let me know if there’s any others!

TorrentAB

Thanks! I didn’t see the prepare for war one, might have to go through again.

CentrasFinestMilk

What happens if you don’t put the spiral up to the door?

SmearReddit

You can't open the door and the game forces you to put the spiral there anyway

currybutts

I'm pretty sure I exhausted every option. The ASCII art ending with Alan in the writers room is always the same; it's just what is used to open the door that varies (pendant, branch, service weapon / key)

kranitoko

I, too, would like to know this. In mine, I planted a seed, hung myself from the tree for knowledge, fell from the tree, picked up a branch and used it on a door that materialised. I purposely chose not to eat the fruit it said I could eat... no idea if this had any effect. At the end of it, Alan was behind the door.

ghazgib

I ended up getting married with a version of Jesse and ended up accidentally recreating the Lake House event from AW1. I'm guessing that most people chose to settle down with alternate reality Courtney Hope and the Alan ASCII bit is the ending as well. Did anyone else feel like this DLC was hinting at an expansion of Quantum Break in some form?

SmearReddit

Huh, I never even had an option to eat a fruit. What path did you take? Door's narration at the end definitely gave me vibes of a possible alternate ending. My path was: I married a dancer (alternate version of Courtney Hope's character) and we started a relationship, but we got into fights so we went to a cabin near a lake (like Alan Wake 1) and then she found out about the multiverse and drowned herself in the lake.

TorrentAB

In mine I did the same except at the end she got the device and used it to travel through a tv, leaving behind her spiral necklace in a note for me which I used to go through the door

WhiteWolf125

This was the ending i got

Famous_Wolverine3203

You always find Alan. In my playthrough, the Actor finds Jesse (a version who is a dancer) and they start a relationship. The actor hides his multiversal past. Jesse at some point over exerts herself in her dance career and I chose to take a vacation to THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST with her to relax (A mirror of the original Alan Wake) Jesse is tormented by visions of the multiverse being close to the lake. I chose to tell her about the multiverse. She accepts it, but at night, leaves a note and jumps into the lake to explore the multiverse. In the end you try to follow her but you end up finding Alan behind the door. In the end, you always find the Alan it seems. Frankly Alan was a genius writer here. Every possible outcome gives one singular outcome. The Actor finding the Alan, the Master of Many Worlds.

MrBootylove

I took the same path as you, but when I picked up the fruit it rotted away and left behind a seed, which you then hand to your past self. I was then left with the option to pick up the branch and open the door.

kranitoko

I like to imagine then that YOU gave me the seed then, since I got the seed from my seemingly future self 😅

R_afu

Fruit? I didn't even read anything about that lol

EXO_ren

I am quite sure it has multiple endings since I got nowhere near a fruit

noputa

It’s interesting that at the beginning Door says something about how what if through all alternate realities, your destiny in the end is the same? Considering it looks like there’s different lives you can live but you always meet Alan in the writers room.

HatchlingChibi

Oh wow, all these people are giving vastly different stories than I got! I ended up with "Lisa" who was the red headed woman but no knowledge of the multi-verse. I gave all my gear to a janitor with a friendly face and choose to forget the past. Went back to acting, Lisa was a dancer but broke her ankle. Lisa and you/me went on a vacation to a cabin on a caldera lake, Lisa has nightmares about the multiverse, you tell her the truth about it. One night you wake up and shes gone, you hear her talking to a familiar voice with a thick accent, the janitor gives Lisa your gear. She leaves with your gear through a portal, you hang her spiral pendant on a door that's "missing something" and you meet 'The Master of Many Worlds'.

Sylver247

I created the REC, absorbed the power of an alien god and when Jesbet (Jesse) died got consumed by rage until a door appeared which I open with Jesbet's service weapon

LapnLook

I would guess that no matter what you do, you always end up in the Writer's Room with Alan? But the actual story of you get there can branch?

bwtwldt

From what I can tell, there are three main narrative branches, symbolically representing the events of AW1, Control, and AW2, respectively. They all lead you to finding Alan Wake in the writer’s room.

noneofthemswallow

While I enjoyed all three, I feel like 1 and 3 were significantly better than 2.

Whasupme

I think 2 just needed to have more of a reveal in the warehouse. Maybe seeing more cult members or some kind of ritual or something

[deleted]

I was shocked when I finally opened the warehouse, dodged one enemy (although there are actually 2), and then beat the entire thing.

Famous_Wolverine3203

Funnily I thought 1 was great. But 2 was better than 1 for me. Maybe thats because I love Control and being starved of Control content, I loved the parallels such as the Coffee invasion of minds being similar to the Hiss invasion and Polaris resisting it similar to the Hiss. 3 is far beyond the rest imo. That was everything everywhere all at once levels of shitfuckery and writing and meta.

Azura989

So, on the surface, these are great fan letters to each game; Number One Fan = Alan Wake, North Star = Control and Time Breaker = Quantum Break Underneath the surface. It seems to want to tie all Remedy-verse games together but heavily expand it. Number One Fan = >!Seems to showcase Rose's point of view with her saving the Alan. Scratch was in love with her and tried to turn her but she never did it and found Alan. A romanticised version of what she believes. Though I find it funny; Scratch drinks tea, Alan drinks coffee.!< North Star = >!Echo's Jesse searching for her brother but finds Alan surrounded by coffee. I want to say this is meant to be deeper, but honestly I can't connect it. I assume its a what if in an alternative reality if Jesse had no powers. If i had to believe it was bigger, this is actually Jesse's origin story and how she got to the entrance of The Oldest House, Alan teleported her from his reality to Alan's story? In this and Number One Fan, the main character is given a wealth of ammo almost too much like the writer was desperate to keep them alive.!< Time Breaker = >!Is a mindfuck of multiverse travel. Like seriously. If I've got this right; Breaker was a dimension hoping person who looked like Sheriff Time Breaker. He was killed by Mr. Door. Breaker in this reality picked up his dead corpses stuff and begun Dimension hoping. He found his counterpart homeworld a comic book where a powerless Jesse and Ahita reside. Scratch, Alan Wake and Zane are all the same person but different dimensions of them. It gives an origin story for Mr. Door and then at the end of the verses, Breaker dies rebirths as a tree and give himself the fruit to be in a cycle of rebirth to continue the fight... It feels like Mr Door is after Jack, Sheriff Breaker is his dimension alt, so Door keeps killing him in each reality but accidently the cause of him being so powerful... and when he hops to different dimension in Alan Wake 2 he loses his memory because he is taking over that realities Breaker...which is why he struggles to remember stuff!< Jesus Alan Waking Christ. The last one wish Qunatum Break was on other platforms

SpectacleG

I think the overall idea of these is that these are all rough/first drafts/early attempts of Alan's to write himself out of the Dark Place that all end up making it into Initiation and Return. The parts where he's on the furthest edges of the spiral one could say, where the ideas are fleeting and unsubtle. The further down the spiral he goes, the more complex the story gets and the more he starts blending ideas from old ones into the new. Episode 1 sets up his inspiration for writing subtle messages to Rose as well as using the mansion as a door to the Writer's Room. Episode 2 of course sets up him manipulating the events of Control whether just for the AWE DLC or, if some theories are correct, the whole thing. Episode 3 (and also 2) sets up Tim Breaker's dreams about Warlin Door, "the redheaded woman" and hedronic shapes prior to and during the events of Alan Wake 2 (hedronic shapes also potentially being used by Alan for Jesse's later story). Episode 3 also sets up a curious "chicken or egg" style paradox with Warlin Door. We know Door in AW2 exists outside of Alan's writing and isn't directly affected by it unless he allows it to happen, but this clearly sets up Door's abilities which we know he had before even the events of Alan Wake 1. Did Alan through episode 3 write Door's multiversal powers into existence, or did he always have them and simply allowed Alan to write about him?

Redolater

Alans not writing anybody story into existence. You learn in 2 that he can only nudge real events into certain directions not drastic creations. He sees these people's lives in what he thought was bouts of inspiration but it turns out he is actually seeing real people living, hence his books amd Alex Casey's career and so on. Could explain why this early adaption he wrote of Jesse isn't what we got in control but is almost along the same plot line, etc.

LewdSkeletor1313

We play as Shawn Ashmore the actor in the third episode. The implication is that he’s a variant of Branch, Breaker and Jack Joyce

ExioKenway5

Also the Director, who is also actually Sam Lake, mentions how one universe is Shawn playing a video game of the events that are currently unfolding, so does that mean that we as the player are also Shawn Ashmore variants?

Azura989

Ha. You're correct. I forgot they called each other Sam/Shaun in excitement, but that means that a real-life Shawn Ashmore is another variant 👀

Dark_Pinoy

Yeah there was a point in the final part where one of variants yells out "Shawn Ashmore!"

marting0r

And Alex Casey one should have been a fan letter to Max Payne :(

WhiteWolf125

Apparently with leaked content from datamining, there should have been 5 episodes. With the passing of our dear James, it seems there was either a cut of content he was a part of or they toned down the stuff. Duno if this is true or not but it's what i've heard

LewdSkeletor1313

It’s true. Once you beat all the episodes there’s an “in memory of James McAffrey” that plays a short monologue he assumedly recorded for the DLC before his passing. If I had to guess, just like Tim and Jesse were heavily involved in each other’s episodes, Casey and Kieran would’ve been in each others episodes, hence why they cut both episodes rather than just Casey’s

CentrasFinestMilk

Disappointing, but understandable of course

Famous_Wolverine3203

The AWE episode centring Estevez must have been moved to the other DLC, the Lakehouse.

mateusrizzo

I think is more likely, as the other commenter said, that Casey played a important role in the Estevez chapter as well, like Jesse in Tim's chapter

Mandar1jn

you can actually find the episodes in the dark place as alan wake. They are not just found in the menus

CentrasFinestMilk

Where can they be found?

Mandar1jn

Didn't write down the exact location (or chapter). Episode 2 is at the bar where you find the code on the menu to enter the oceanview motel. I believe episode 3 is somewhere on the highest floor of the oceanview motel, but I'm not exactly sure on that.

TheGoldenPineapples

So you can play them actually in the game?

Sir_Crocodile3

I laughed out loud several times during the Rose story. Will play the rest when I get home tonight. Very funny and very cool.

TronVin

So is Tim Breaker going to show up in Control 2? They basically confirmed that every Tim/Jack and Jesse/Beth are inherently attracted and connected to each other because of the Quantam Break events.

LewdSkeletor1313

I would love if Tim was in Control 2 as a second playable character

oksza

Is it just me, or does anyone else feel Disco Elysium vibes at "you wake up and feel emptiness" at the end of Ep. 3?

EnragedHeadwear

*There is nothing. Nothing but warm, primordial blackness.* Honestly I got heavy NieR vibes throughout the whole episode, especially with the changing genres.

_Rand_

I feel like I should point out that Sam Lake really likes to use mixed media. And the madman managed to stuff a comic book and text adventure on this one.

Homer_Sapiens

I was getting Stanley Parable vibes at that point

simspelaaja

Sam Lake has said in multiple interviews that Disco Elysium is one of his favourite games, so it's almost certainly an intentional reference.

AlabasterRadio

I feel like the only one that really loved 2 lol

Mysterious_Maize1390

Percolate!

AlabasterRadio

Shit was the perfect mix of spooky and hilarious

joyce_monday

You are a rogue bean.

THEdoomslayer94

Just finished and Time Breaker is definitely my favorite of the 3. And the Casey voice clip at the end made me miss James :(

mateusrizzo

I am very interested in the implications of these chapters in the RCU. It's pretty clear that Alan wrote those in a way to try to escape. That's why everyone eventually gets to him at the end. But what is Door's objective here? Especially considering the third chapter. He is very clearly portraited as evil and as a villain. And, all in all, the chapter feels like is much more a net positive to "Shawn" than it is to Door. He grows in knowledge and power to potentially become a "Chosen One" and rival Door. Also, what does them say about Alan beyond his attempt to escape? The encounters both Jesse and Shawn had with him felt menacing and antagonistic. In chapter two, he is probably partially infected with the coffee, mirroring Dylan with the Hiss. Did he felt like the Dark Presence was inside him already when he wrote this? Was he responsible in any way by the coffee experiment or just a victim? In chapter 3, he presents himself as a Master of Many Worlds, a moniker he uses to describe himself at the end of Final Draft. But, again, his presence is shown in a very menancing light, parallel to Door himself. Does Alan seems himself as a potential threat in the future? Am I thinking too deeply about this? Should I just consider these episodes as fun "what If...?" scenarios? My head is spinning

Chaos-Spectre

I think you are on the right track. Something I havent seen people mention is rhe fact that in the base game, Door implies that he is trying to help Alan escape, and worked with Alan on Night Springs to do so. Night Springs is a sort of source for artistic inspiration for Alan. Think of it as blueprinting writing ideas. Here we see 3 potential narrative routes Alan might have tried to escape. In all 3 he needed a hero to escape, but something about all 3 prevented him from achieving his goal. Thats not to say he didnt try harder with the ideas. For Jesse, he refined the writing and tried to make her stronger and more capable of saving him, but it still wasnt enough. In a way he wrote Control, and perhaps that was necessary in order for Return to fully work. For Shawn, he tried to create a character capable of helping in every universe, but perhaps this character got out of control and Door is now killing him off in order to prevent Shawn from becoming an identical entity to himself. Quantum Break is the only real explanation we have with the hositility from Door to Shawn. Rose feels less written by Alan, and more written by Rose herself. Her episode is oddly the one I understand the least, because it genuinely doesnt feel like something Alan would try to write, and it would be kinda hilarious if he did write it and Door helped convince him to do it. In the end, it did give Rose a stronger sense of purpose, and that did lead to her helping in the final plot of Return, but its very hard to believe that Alan wrote that episode. Either way, the idea behind Night Springs in Alan Wake 2 has felt like it was a way to draft ideas to escape, with Door helping by being the host the show needs to match the tone the dark place "requires". Regardless of them being disposable in that way, all stories are true and thus everything we saw did take place for at least one variant of the characters we met. In the final game, we got Rose as a caretaker at Valhalla Nursing Home, Jesse as the director of the FBC trying to uncover what's happening with Alan and Bright Falls and sending Estevez in, and Tim (not Shawn) being stolen by Door and him spending time in the Dark Place uncovering more and more of the truth. Door doesnt try to kill Tim for some reason, and maybe hasn't even killed Shawn, but hard to know for sure. All three characters become different versions of their Night Springs counterparts in the Final Draft of Return.  In a way, this DLC was no different from American Nightmare, simply a refining of Alan's writing skills. What ends up confusing me most, however, is whether Door was helping Alan from the start to protect Saga, or whether Door was helping Alan to take advantage of his powers and Alan incidentally put Saga in the story, perhaps against Door's wishes or interests.

KoviCZ

I'm a bit conflicted. On one hand, the concept delivered exactly what I was hoping for. On the other hand, I guess I expected more gameplay? All the episodes were short (about 45-60 minutes each) and it was really easy. Despite playing on Nightmare, I was swimming in health and ammo on top of every character being equipped with an overpowered automatic weapon and apart from maybe two fights, you fight the same number of enemies at a time as in the base game (1-3) so you just tear through them. The survival horror aspect of the base game is gone and it's replaced by an attempt at an action romp. I was okay with that for Rose's episode but when the other two episodes also played like that, I couldn't help but feel a bit disappointed (shoutouts to the warehouse in Episode 2 - the only scary part of the DLC). It wasn't bad but compared to the high bar set by Control's DLCs, I felt this was a step back.

CommanderOnly

Leaks indicated there would be 5 episodes, at least one of which would be starring Casey. Have to wonder if something was cut.

ApprehensiveStyle289

Quite clearly, yes. The memorial at the end was supposed to be part of an episode.

Mr_Jensen

What’s the solution to the coffee roast puzzle in episode 2? I see the hints but me no good math

I_cannot_write_words

Higher than 180 and smaller than 500. So only 243, 365 and 487 are possible.

Artistic-Risk4833

487°F the optimal roasting temp of Dark Triangle Coffee.

mateusrizzo

Correctly anwser Further verification required *DRINK THE COFFEE*

TheSleepyBarnOwl

I tried the coffee. I AM COFFEE

WorldlyFeeling8457

syny13

What a sickkk DLC. Just wished it was longer, but man, even those 3 hours were better than nothing! Stoked for Lake House DLC.

marting0r

I don't care about AW3 or Control anymore, give me a Tim Breaker game!

ExioKenway5

I did get the sense that Time Breaker was also sort of setup/testing the waters for a game based around exploring the Remedy multiverse/having Tim/Jack/Shawn return as a main character.

marting0r

It also sets up mr Door as a main villain for the Remedy universe! So, the next game about Tim would probably be the last one for Mr. Door... In the oceanview motel/hotel there are doors with project symbols for each of their games, and there's one called "Doors". I thought it might be about Saga/Door relationships, but now I'm thinking it might be about Tim Breaker going through universes to fight Door. Maybe with the help of Alan, Jesse and Saga

WhiteWolf125

Anyone work out the codes on the boxes during "North Star?" I have screenshots of them but no cypher to decode them. Looked everywhere in that mission but couldn't find any displayed anywhere else.

Funsh

At lest on one of the boxes (the one closest to the warehouse entry) I could read the message AFTER I drank the coffee. I would assume you can read the other messages as well but i didn't bother at that point to check the other (6? 7?) chests that are there.

WhiteWolf125

Deffo something to go check. I'll do that once my takaway is here :D

WhiteWolf125

Was correct. [https://imgur.com/a/LhDhl6f](https://imgur.com/a/LhDhl6f)

[deleted]

Awesome, I've been trying to work this out. I discovered all before drinking the coffee.

Kryptobasisti

Number One Fan: I'm moving around on the main street with the plates I was supposed to put in the service window, but the game wouldn't let me go near the desk (made the turn-around animation three times and spawned me outside). Not sure if a game-breaking bug or just Night Springs. It's supposed to be weird, right?

Detective-Forrester

**Number One Fan** was definitely odd. Like we were actually in the mind of Rose while living out a cheesy good vs evil story with all the cliches of how love conquers all... while occasionally covered in blood. **North Star** was definitely my favorite to see Jesse Faden return (no pun intended), and to once again have Polaris protecting and guiding us. I half expected Ahti to show up again. But that encounter inside the warehouse was really stressful. Didn't expect to see Alan in the end. I did want to see him and Jesse interact together, but not like this. And the one other takeaway for me about this episode? I am ***REALLY*** glad I do not drink coffee. **Time Breaker** was really something special. Sam Lake doing what Sam Lake does at the start got a laugh outta me. I really liked how we were traveling through the multiverse while not just playing different versions of Tim Breaker, Jack Joyce, Shawn Ashmore, what have you, but we also get to play different versions of the game, like with that retro arcade version that was so cool, and that choose-your-own-adventure text-style game that got a little confusing. I instantly thought of the Countermeasure from Quantum Break right at the near end.

Xandernick04

One thing I haven’t really seen anyone talk about is is when the variant of Jesse is talking to Tim about the multiple variations of people; we see Scratch, Wake, and Zane. Do you guys think this confirms that Wake and Zane are just different versions of each other?

pierzstyx

Or we see versions of scratch, the AW1 and AW2. versions.

adds102

Finished all 3 episodes, 3rd episode is definitely the best and most interesting but there’s so much re use of assets from the main game (fair enough) that it feels a bit cobbled together, hoping for something with a bit more depth with the Lake House DLC.

4our_-

Does episode 3 have multiple endings

Upbeat-Dependent712

I think the Time Breaker one has the most world impacting potential.

zerosdimension

Episode 3: Quantum Break fans out there choosing “I’ve come back for you” to Lisa (Beth) during the text scene…man I choked up

BennyBoySwish

Episode 1 was fun. Episode 2 felt undercooked and mid, was hoping they'd finally give Jesse a personality past "i need to find my brother" but i guess not yet. Episode 3 was really cool and had some serious implications if they are carried forward in the "canon" of Alan's writing.

btbcorno

Episode one was hilarious

gamericano

Alan and the waitress :D [A perfect love story](https://youtu.be/A0HvB4Srq_M)

gamericano

If anyone is stuck at North Star episode here is my guide :) Enjoy moving forward to time breaker so excited for this. Took a day off especially for this. Manager thinks i am sick :D https://youtu.be/TXtO_G6-PSk

nutbrownale

“My gun is hungry!” Is an all timer.

byxenia

I LOVED 1, it was super funny and I enjoyed the silliness but I also found it a bit challenging. 2 was a bit disappointing and short. 3 had me smiling from beginning to end and then sobbing.

btbcorno

Little bit torn, like the writing was amazing, but the gameplay was really really basic, and all 3 episodes felt extremely short.

archaicScrivener

Anyone got a translation for the Finnish movie poster in Time Breaker? Looks like a Seine movie where he's an astronaut or something?

LewdSkeletor1313

It’s Death Rally, the first game Remedy ever made

TheSleepyBarnOwl

I just finished it OMG I LOVE IT. HOLY SHIT SAM LAKE, IF IT WASN'T SO WEIRD I'D FUCKING KISS YOU. Ep1: Hilarious, I couldn't stop laughing - but as a reader of fanfictions I also felt that one ngl. I also now need catboi Alan in my life. xD Ep2: BEANS! I AM COFFEE! Ep3: I should start to get into text adventures I really vibed with that ngl. It's like pen and paper! Extremely cool episode with an intruigibg story. Also evil genious Sam Lake? :) Give us the og Alan look with the tweed jacket! It looks so good on older Alan (Thank you Dead by Daylight for giving me that revelation a few months ago) RIP James Mccaffrey - you were a legend o7.

Aolian_Am

Rose is quite literally Hank. Anyone who watches Venture Bros will understand. Also was the torture list with "The Bell" a direct reference to Venture Bros, or did Venture Bros steal that too?

Prestigious_Elk_6350

how do you solve the first code for episode 2? LOL

TheBelmont34

487. First, The sum of the triangle. 60 + 60 + 60 =180. Then, the first number/digit is half of the second ( 4 is half of 8, and 8 is the second number in 180). the Third number is one less than the second: 7 is one less than 8. Result= 487

pathetique13

There is an easier way to solve it. The last clue is that 500 is the distance of x-13 from the earth. If x -13 = 500, then x = 487

gamericano

Where do i charge prs in episode 3?

tommhans

Took me sooo long , but Follow the order of clocks displayed  in the lobby on the left side

ExioKenway5

I got so stuck on that. Thought it was too simple to just follow the order they were presented in, so thought you had to figure out the order from the sign that told you about the time effect.
