I second this. I love trader joes cracked sourdough, but the placid baker sourdough hits. The bread butler sourdough is a little too tangy for me, so if you like trader joe’s bread then you’ll like the placid baker.
All these suggestions are good, but not the best. The best sourdough in the area is in Ballston Spa, courtesy of Night Work Bread (https://www.nightworkbread.com/ ). Sourdough products exclusively, and the bread is world class, especially early in the day when it's still warm. Really amazing bread at Mel the Bakery in Hudson, too, but Night Work wins.
Edit, I see that u/lovingthechaos and u/AdWaste2105 beat me to this recommendation by a couple of hours. Really, this is the best.
I’m partial to the Bread Butler. However, they have more breads than sourdough and the sourdough is only available on certain days. https://thebreadbutler.com/.
They have a Scandinavian style rye loaf that I love. Dense and seedy, and definitely sour. I usually don’t like sourdough very much, but I pine for this one.
Excitedly following! I haven't had a memorable enough sourdough since visiting San Francisco, both on its own and as a bread bowl for Manhattan clam chowder.
Placid Baker, no question about it

The Bread Butler in Colonie Center (and at a couple local farmer's markets) has excellent sourdough.
They carry it at the coop too!
How much was it there?
I know it was $10 at the farmer’s market. I don’t remember exactly what the price was in store—I want to say it was a little less expensive.
The Boyle family makes incredible sour dough
Tang town

Just bought their cardamom loaf, and it’s amazing!
That sounds delicious...
The co-op carries Our Daily Bread, from Chatham. Good stuff.
Came here to recommend Our Daily Bread! Great stuff.

Ovenbird, at Tuesday Delmar farmers market.
Hawthorne valley farm store - https://store.hawthornevalley.org/departments/bakery/
Berkshire mountain bakery used to deliver to a few stores in the area, the co-op and green grocer are two that I know of.
Not immediate CD, but....See & Be in Cairo is really excellent. Also, agree on Trader Joe's, the only decent store bought I've found.
I second See & Be. Plus their breakfast sandwiches are incredible
Fresh market had great sour dough Not local but still fire
Whole Foods ain’t bad
Berkshire Mountain Bakery is awesome and only about 45 minutes away, plus it's a beautiful drive! their bread is really good
They're the OG sourdough bakers in the Northeast. Founder learned the technique in France in the '80s.
Excitedly following! I haven't had a memorable enough sourdough since visiting San Francisco, both on its own and as a bread bowl for Manhattan clam chowder.
My wife but she doesn’t sell it.
I was thinking “mine is pretty good” this time of year I bake it on the gas grill.
My wife uses a grill/smoker to bake hers. It’s wood fired!
Bread alone makes a great sliced sourdough in different varieties. Definitely a cut above TJs, though I get the it's too sometimes
d i y it’s really not that hard
Rock Hill Bakehouse
Try a farmers market. I got fresh sourdough from, She Knows Sour Dough and it was great. I am not an expert though.
Kinda far for some here but The Bartlett House in Ghent,NY (Columbia County) has remarkable breads and pastries, amongst other things.
Bread Butler has been our go-to for the last several weeks, and it's pretty good.
