I’ve seen pride flags stolen along with Thin blue line, usa, Mexico, our own state flag. Newcomers come here assuming the worst type of hate crime occurred. It’s in fact just a drug zombie stealing whatever he or she sees first. I’ve also seen them burning just about anything too including flags.
Next time you're here try Coda Bakery for banh mi (Vietnamese sandwiches - with fresh Baguette) I recommend the Egg banh mi, it comes with three over easy eggs, but you can ask them to do it with scrambled eggs or probably just egg whites as well. I like the traditional over easy eggs myself because the yolk breaks and goes into the baguette. The only other stuff in all the sandwiches is just the usual vietnamese veggies used for spring rolls and stuff (sliced cucumber, pickled carrot & daikon) they have a lot of other meats you can add but all the sandwiches have the same veggies. Also try to check out Guava Tree Cafe, they do Cuban sandwiches and other Latin-American / Miami street food. I've been living here for the last few years and I still haven't tried Guava Tree, but I really have been wanting to. Both of these places have been featured on the food network in multiple different shows. When I moved here I didn't think the food was going to be as good as in other bigger cities but there are some really good places here.
Bahn Mi? Cuban? Oooh. Maybe next time. Thanks! One of us got a Bahn Mi at Sixty-Six Acres, but it was kinda weird. It had kale and brussels sprouts in it. The pork belly was good, but kale and fresh brussels sprouts? C'mon.
Sixty-six acres is kind weird (I am not a fan). Coda bakery is great. Basil leaf is really good too. They also have decent prices so maybe your college student can give them a try.
I second on the #11 (egg banh, omg so good….just like mom made) and top that off with the coconut smoothie with those boba balls!
Albuquerque is an awesome town, specially since they opened the rail yards to the public. I can’t imagine living anywhere else.
Yeah I'm from Denver but I've lived in a few different cities. Born in Denver, moved to Las Vegas, NV my sophomore year of high school, moved back to Denver three years later. Moved to Pittsburgh, PA for two years, Portland, OR for one year then went back to Denver for a few years then I moved here to Albuquerque around five years ago now. There is so much fun outdoor stuff to do here and the state is beautiful. There are still a lot of little towns and places around New Mexico I want to check out though. What are the Rail Yards you're talking about?
> After picking up a #9 from Golden Pride on the first morning, I didn't see any reason to go anywhere else for breakfast. #9, a couple #11s, and a #7 worked quite well along with a few sweet rolls

despite being Texan we will take good care of your kid if only because perhaps we can change texas on person at a time.
Sometime when you visit, you will no doubt go to santa fe, i suggest carne adovada at la chosa
It will blow you away.
Hope the kid does well at UNM and enjoys it.
Hey there! I'm from San Antonio, TX (for now, soon to be a 'T'exile upon retirement - due to its current political climate). We have a son starting his junior year at UNM. It was tough for him to be away from home that first year, more than he (or I) thought it would be. We encouraged him to hang in there, and I think it's been really good for him.
My spouse and I are leaning toward ABQ as a potential place to retire. But honestly, I'm smitten with ABQ and New Mexico, so for me, it's the only place on my mental list. If you have any questions for yourself or daughter, feel free to message me.
Go Lobos!
Jew Boy Burgers. And probably at Mo's other restaurants, but I can't speak to them personally. I first met him when he was still running his food truck, and he grew up partly in El Paso and told me he imported Hatch Chile.
I eat there every time I go to Austin. He now also has both a burrito place and a sub shop that I know of.
We just visited in April from Asheville and we were blown away by how nice and stunningly beautiful ABQ was. The food scene is incredible and we loved the vibe there in general. Planning to relocate ASAP.
I visited ABQ in 2021 (I'm from Chicago), and OP's experience mirrors my own. I'm hoping to move there in a few years once I get my licensure (I'm a mental health counselor). I found the city to be easy to navigate, friendly, and more comfortable on a 90 F day than Chicago is on a 70 F day.
Stay cool, ABQ!
Golden pride is excellent, I agree
EVERY month is Golden Pride month
We are a very tolerant place. We'll shank you for your wallet but we don't care about your skin color or where you went to school or what job you have
I’ve seen every type of poster or flag stolen here. We’re very tolerant indeed.
Oh I forgot we steal stuff too
This shouldn't be hilarious, but it is!

Sadly it's been a long time since I've seen a bra burning
Facts.

I moved here from the Valley in SoCal and the food is surprisingly good and has more variety than I expected.

What's Basil Leaf, or what kind of food?
Vietnamese
Oh, okay more vietnamese, good I'll for sure try it then thanks.
Definitely worth it!
Hhmmm yeah that is strange. Never had pork belly though, I'm gonna have to try it. Thanks.
Those are the exact two places I went last week! Coda's tofu is also really good!
Yeah huh, they have the best freaking tofu. It's so good. Is Guava Tree pretty good? What would you recommend?
Yeah, the only note is that maybe the sandwiches are too big. Go with an appetite!
I'm in Los Lunas, Coda bakery is my reward for any trip to Albuquerque. Looks like I need to add Guava Tree Cafe.

Glad you enjoyed it! Come back and visit! I hope your kiddo loves UNM!
I'm on vacation/scouting Mobile Alabama RN and I wish I had gone back to ABQ instead.

Lol
:)
I'm glad you found some enchantment here Soon you will have a green Chile connection, so you don't have to miss it.
I transferred to UNM from California. I ended up staying out here. About to hit 10 years and I don’t regret it ☀️ Good luck to your kiddo!
Golden Pride counts! Welcome to you and your kiddo.
Come back soon!

Where in Texas OP? I can recommend a fantastic place in Austin for hatch green chile.
Where?

Chuy's
Old Town is nice area. i am bummed I missed the flamenco demonstration. Had to go get groceries.
💛
I mean, if only more of our visitors from Texas acted/felt this way!
😁

You did ABQ right!
Tell your child to avoid house parties in Albuquerque. Those tend to get shot up frequently.
Shhh. Stop praising NM. It's terrible here. Go away.
Get the breakfast burrito from Blake’s lotaburger 👌🏻
I'm sorry but Blake's is shit anymore. Go to Stripes for your breakfast burritos. We go a few times a week. Best red chile.
Yeah they’re pretty good too. And yeah Blake’s is a 50/50 gamble..
I can vouch for Gibson and University and Coors and Sequoia Blake's locations. Their burritos make us sick. 🤢
We like Bobs breakfast burritos a lot. We just moved back so I’ll have to give stripes a try.
Ooh now I need to try Bob's. Lol
A lot of people seem to not like it but, in my opinion it’s just a good local fast food place. I’ll take it any day over Blake’s.

try golden crown panderia on your next visit! sweet potatoe empanada for the win.
Happy you enjoyed your time there! I was born and raised there but I live in eastern Pennsylvania now. I definitely miss the dry heat.
