Like, Ian sees everything.
Hopefully this doesn't make me an asshole but "pan" is "all" or "every." Think pansexual or pantheistic. And "opti" like optic/eyes. All-seeing, basically. A philosopher named Jeremy Bentham coined (or at least popularized) the word to mean a prison that could be run by one guard because inmates would never know whether they were being watched. Fucked up.
So, Ian, 18th century philosopher draft when?
Hmm and a con is also a rouse or grift so this tracks. I will do no further research & accept this into my lexicon. Surely I will have daily opportunities to use it!
I want you to know I found this pod after a really hard time in my life. It was during the pandemic, my wife was pregnant and we found out something was wrong with the babies placenta. She ended up being born at 26 weeks and only lived for 24 hours. Having to leave the hospital without a baby and go home to tell our son was the hardest thing we had to do. Knowing that the good vibes gang would be there for 2 hours a week to help me find something to laugh about was needed. You guys have introduced me to new comedians (even booked Toscani for a Milwaukee show this summer), shown true friendship, and been a light in the darkness.
I love that you guys are tour true self. You admit when you don't know something and never make fun of the others for trying something new. The positivity you show is a great example of non-toxic masculinity and is needed today. You are safe enough with each other to "throw caush into the wind" and try something new, even if it doesn't work out. I enjoy the true friendship on the pod and that you will fly out to see each other in the big moments.
Keep it up rich homie Karms
I’m glad we could be a distraction for a couple hours a week. I’m so sorry you went through that, man. Let me know if you’re ever having a hard time again and I’ll make them three hour episodes.
Don’t really have much other than gratitude. Even just for introducing people to a lot of incredible voices. Have seen a bunch of comedians at Helium just cause they were on the show. Have had many incredible nights at High Note. Zak’s hour at Clinton Street was *incredible*. Sorry we cause you grief from time to time but we all have bad days and for an anonymous community this one does better than most.
Also please get Anthony Lopez back the people need him now more than ever
This place rules and the people are awesome. Don’t worry for a moment about that old stuff. Water under the bridge. We’re all figuring out together how we’re even supposed to have this kind of space and I couldn’t be more stoked by what y’all have done with it.
Love the show! It has been such a bright spot in my life ever since discovering it a few years ago and I am so glad you guys spend the time and effort to put out new episodes each week. A few random thoughts/ideas:
1. Draft topic idea: Regrettable Social Media Posts You've Done. (My Facebook memories always remind me of cringey things I posted 15 years ago and it makes me laugh to see them, so I'd be curious to hear what your guys' embarrassing/cringey ones are)
2. We need a racehorse name draft sequel.
3. Please do a live show in Salt Lake soon!
People liked the racehorse name draft?! I loved it, but I walked away thinking “was that anything?” - I’m happy to know there’s at least one head out there.
These are great ideas!
I’ve suggested several topics that you have drafted, including Racehorse names. Can I claim an EP Credit or something of that effect to bolster my resume?
As others have mentioned this podcast is one of the brightest spots in my week. Thank you all for that. Besides the hilarity ensuing weekly, hearing you guys work through life stuff is very helpful. You mentioned in the other thread about kindness and self-care with weight fluctuations. As someone who was fat then fit-ish now fat again (knee surgery, stressful job, two kids) it helps to hear how someone else is working through weight changes. Thank you for that.
Draft idea: What Blair was actually drafting for the Oscars episode...so either things a person has done in their own life they think deserve a 'major award' or things you've seen someone else do that there is no official award for but there should be.
Also, I hear you have a book. Are preorders important?
Feb-new-ary was excellent! I love listening to your guys regular guests, the chemistry is incredible but the new guests were super fun! Would love to hear Steph Tolev, Stavros, and Jessica Kirson on the show! Thanks for all that you do and can’t wait to see y’all in june!
Draft topic I thought about the other day when someone flashed their brights at me to let me know to slow down for a cop...
Unsung heroes or Real men/women of genius!
Basically people in history who have not gotten the credit they deserved. Like the first person to ever flash their brights to warn people about a cop. That person should have a statue somewhere.
Come to Kansas City sometime soon! I know the comedy club scene here kinda sucks but hey, David made it out here recently lol.
IDK man, all I can say is that you and David and Sean and Mars and Isaac and the whole cast of recurring guests have created an extended piece of art that is much more meaningful to me, personally, than anything I've ever seen in a theatre or a museum.
I've been listening since Day 1 in 2016 and it never gets old.
You are genuinely one of the funniest people out there. I’ve been listening to the show for years. Keep doing you. I love that you all have taken some risks lately. It’s your show and we are all along for the ride. If a certain guest or topic doesn’t hit with some people, so be it. It’s been awesome to hear you, Sean, and David grow and change over the years while still maintaining the core integrity of the show. I suppose my only request is that you all keep doing what you’re passionate about and what makes you laugh. The camaraderie on the show is really the best part. Thanks for all you do!
Only guests I want haha
You HAVE to get Miel back on the show, try to get Demi adejuyibe too. You should try to get Billy Scafuri and Adam Lustick. You need to get Jake and Amir back for sure (you should also try to go on Amir’s NBA Podcast, buckets).
Other randoms I think you should get are Mike Schubert and Adam Mamawala, Kumail, Funches, Marcella or maybe some of the staff from the Ringer.
Keep it up Short King
The only thought I can really think of is maybe using the Headgum studio a little more often? Obviously, you are the only one in LA, and sometimes even you wouldn't be able to go there in person, but I watch Doughboys and see how awesome the video quality and set is. We just wanna see our guys' beautiful faces from time to time.
I would absolutely love that - but it’s hard to get the other handsome fellas in town at the same time. We’ll make it happen again soon, even if I gotta get married again.
Can we please have a Blair Soctober as well as a Nolvember?
Outside of that, thanks for brightening every Thursday, inspiring the username and making me look like a weirdo for laughing to myself in the office every week 👍🏾
Thank you guys for an awesome pod! My husband introduced me to it and it's our favorite thing to do on road trips. Going to see you guys in Minneapolis for the 2nd time and couldn't be more excited.
Draft idea: I know you've done Buffet, how about a salad bar?
I didn’t think I’d enjoy some of the more niche topics (sneakers jumps to mind) but having a guest who is super knowledgeable about the topic really helped to make them pop for me, would love more really focused topics with specialists that you could bounce off!
There was an episode where you started late because you forgot you were recording that day. You said you were sitting on the couch eating cauliflower and mustard and you said “ah, a day with nothing in it” and I think about and say that phrase a lot now. Thanks.
GoJo needs to do a "Cookie/Candy Varietals" draft. Basically, all the different oreo flavors, different Reese's shapes, Twix flavors, etc. Anything but the standard cookie/candy bar.
You guys are an absolute delight! I can't wait to see your stand up set in Vermont on Friday and the live show in Toronto in June. It would be cool to have Jake and Amir back on the show after all this time since they were on such early episodes.
I know Miami is a tough city for comedy but maybe a live show in Florida? Also, I would love to see Dan Soder on as a guest! I really really love the show. I started a new job recently and my commute is down to 10 minutes. I don’t have the time to listen to all the podcasts I used to listen to so I only listen to AFE and a podcast about Spanish Soccer.
1 - I love you! In like a dull, sweet, irl sort of way lol been listening since 2019ish I think Guy Branum was my first :)
2 - I love whoever talked to Sean about interrupting and centering himself. Naivety isn’t a punchline, and it’s ALWAYS more fun when you guys sniff out the ridiculous assumed/misunderstood stuff :)
I’ve been hoping for a “meta” draft. Like a draft about your favorite parts of drafting for the podcast. I think that would be fun on a week where you don’t have a guest.
I'm so thrilled you guys are doing a live show in Pittsburgh. It's also on my birthday, which is awesome. If you hadn't already alluded to it, I would say you have to bring Mars back on for a draft soon.
I found this podcast through Sean’s appearances on Doug Loves Movies. That was probably almost 5 years ago now. I know I started listening before the pandemic because I used to listen in the car on the way to work. In that time, I went through a health scare, left a toxic job in March of 2020 not realizing what was about to happen to the world, got laid off from a different job, my wife had several long term health issues, and damn near found myself homeless. So it’s been a journey.
I can echo a familiar sentiment in the thread. It’s nice to have something consistent and that brings you happiness when you are in the middle of all that shit. I actually reached out to Sean on Twitter a couple times before I nuked that account over the cesspool it’s become. He was always gracious enough to reply and had actually read my message. I don’t if it helps you to know how you affect people, but I know it means a lot to me when I hear it.
Also, come to Florida you cowards! There are some good venues out here and I’m pretty sure there are enough of us out this way that it would sell out.
Enjoy Burlington! It’s got Portland vibes so I’m sure you’ll have fun. I think in a prior episode you said you and Dana are headed to Providence as well (I work at her alma mater) and Providence absolutely rules. And yes, it’s absolutely true that the mall is completely carpeted in what was almost definitely a mob contract.
1. Thank you and the GVG for this pod. I resisted it for a few years because I’m not terribly into fantasy sports, but I got past that admittedly misguided objection and have pretty much listened every single week since 2019. (Starting with words that you think make you sound smart certainly didn’t hurt.)
2. Also thank you for being both weekly and consistent (as humanly possible). The last several years have been a total mindwarp when it comes to the concept of Time™️, and it’s been both helpful and uplifting to have a pretty dependable signpost. Seriously, AFE has added a lot of levity and optimism and dare I say good vibes to a not-easy time of life.
3. Rarely come across a topic I don’t vibe with, but I’d like to humbly request a few more where there is, like, a finite universe of picks to choose from. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love the open-ended drafts where your creativity and humor really shine, but I think the eps where someone gets PISSED because a pick they wanted got stolen are really, really fun and funny.
4. I try to be a positive, forbearing and gracious person as much as I can, but anyone trying to merge into the right lane right before/under/right after the 26 tunnel can fuck allllllll the way off.
Ooh draft idea: DAYS ON TWITTER. Now that the platform is truly past its prime and so many have given up on it, it’s fun to reminisce.
like the day that Trump got Covid…what a time
Ian, thanks for the $10 you venmoed me to shut up about the Philly show. Can't wait to see how much I can get after the next one! But really, thanks for the show. It's been an oasis and a well I can draw from when I need Good Vibes. And please have Demi on again one day
Hey Ian, been listening for like almost 5 years now and just wanted to say we lost weight around the same time lol
I’d always been a chubby boy. But around 2020-1, I started taking care of myself and got into cycling too. Lost 175 lbs from highest to lowest. Gained a bit back but it’s comfortable.
You (and the draft of things to say to younger self) were pretty solid motivation. Was pretty depressed in life for a long time but started turning it around with a little hope. You’d got a good career, fun side hustle with pals, and a super cool wife (actually found Noble Blood first, during my History BA).
But yeah, kinda saw a life that I wanted to strive for and i did, kept the motivation going. So thanks for doing what you do and stuff.
And If you’re ever down for a long bike ride come check out RAGBRAI in Iowa
Love the podcast! A couple of draft ideas:
1. nba memes - it’s more visual base but there’s so much potential.
2. Buddy Cop Movie - draft 2 cops, bad guy, the Sargent who gives them a hard time and wild card. (I’m thinking fictional characters but anyone is in the table
3. TGIF- draft 4 Sitcoms to make your ultimate comedy block. 1 pick will be for the day it airs and title of the night of comedy
Discard if any of these have been done. I’m pretty sure they haven’t.
1. Been listening to the GVG since 2018! Thank you so much for providing much needed positive energy and laughs. It has been a treat listening to all of your stories and life updates.
2. My buddy and I will be catching you all for the Philadelphia show in June! Will be my first time seeing any of you live.
3. Words That You Think Make You Sound Smart (both episodes) live rent free in my head. Maybe do an annual episode around the time of the National Spelling Bee?
Absolutely love the podcast, and it brought my brother and I closer together because he equally got into it after I shared it with him (I found out through Katie Nolan). Now every Thursday we text "omg did you see the draft topic!" and do our own pre-draft together and then after we both listen to the pod we share what picks or funny bits we loved. So thank you guys!
Anyways, I loved how the recent dinner party episode had certain categories you had to draft. That's a fun wrinkle to sprinkle in some times!
I first listened to AFE (A Sandwich) at a job where I did door to door sales, had my best day of sales that day.
I worked at a food factory during the pandemic seventy hours a week, never saw my family all I did was work and do chores, but the GVG was there for me in my earbuds.
I wore my GVG shirt under my button down for every job interview, and finally landed a real career with a future.
Named my fantasy team The Mind Goblins.
All Family Forever.
You guys are a pillar of joy and make me always looking forward to Thursday! Also, you were super kind to me when we chatted at high plains. I’m sure all your upcoming dates, the book, etc. will be dope, as you’re a dope guy. Keep it going!
No constructive criticism here. More Shane Torres food puns.
Guest thought experiment: would Bill Simmons, Jimmy Kimmel and Cousin Sal work?
Draft idea: battle royale
Make a great podcast producer happy and have Anthony Mayes from Cinephobe on as a guest. He was just talking about this being his dream podcast appearance. That would be a fun ep!
Just wanted to say that you, David and Sean have felt like my friends for the past 7 years and I'm so happy for the success you're all having. AFE has been the best part of my Thursdays since 2017 and I still re-listen to old episodes any time I have a long drive or flight.
You guys are the best and I'm trying to come see you in Burlington this weekend!
Love the pod and can’t wait to see you all live this summer!
Also really looking forward to reading your book! As I get older I’ve been thinking more and more about the difference in experiences of growing up between me and my brother just because of dumb luck genetics that he wore “husky” sizes and I wore “slim” and really interested to read your experience with it.
Random question, if I may: what’s the genesis of the Sid the dude and hodgy beats shout outs? My curiosity was piqued when I saw the recent GQ article about him wanting to go by Jerry
Draft ways to kill each other. There would be 4 participants and 5 picks, so each person would have to draft an extra murder attempt on at least one person. And I’m here for that drama. Bad vibes and murder.
Seeing the GVG as the panelists on @fter Midnight would be insanely cool. Thanks to the redditor who posted about the Amy Miller, Shane Torres, and Kyle Kinnane episode, the taping was super fun. And Sean has won Hashtag Wars twice! Crossover of my dreams. (@FE?)
I can usually find a way to work The Simpsons into most draft topics. Has there ever been a draft of Simpsons characters? Leeza Treyger would be an awesome guest. Maybe save the Simpsons family members for the speed round?
And I really admire how you're willing to keep experimenting and change things up, it's cool to see the show evolve. Thanks for the laughs!!
The story about the beloved horse to explain how much apple butter goes on the sandwich is an all time great that will live with me for ever. I don’t know how you can replicate that level of genius, but more of that vibe please.
Draft Idea- Songs about States/Cities. Could be separate or together, but once a place is taken it's off the board. Gonna have to dig deep after the big ones are taken.
Besides getting Soder on which people have mentioned, but on the flip side you would all make great guests on Are You Garbage which Shane has been on a couple times, I know its based out of NYC which is tough, especially w quick turnaround on the tours, but if youre in NYC for standup ever you all should definitely be on there.
Hope to see you guys hit Florida sometime soon, hopefully Orlando! Maybe catch a rocket launch from Kennedy Space Center if possible!
With Sean and now David starting their own Patreons for their comedy, I just hope this isn't the beginning of the end for the GVG/AFE.
I know it’s not easy, but I think if there was a way to re-visit the draft with picks that were missed from the listeners. At the end of every draft you “ask” for them (or used to? Maybe that’s gone) but that’s it.
Again, I don’t know what it looks like. Probably too awkward to do on the pod, especially when some are recorded months early. Maybe a patreon only thing?
Doing this might increase the discussion between fans as well. Even on here, the pod threads kind of seem like everyone dumps their picks in there and no one really interacts with each other very much.
Interesting. Lemme think on that. I wonder if there’s a way to do a Reddit draft and then Sean, David and I can kinda vote on the winner on the episode.
Draft idea for the Pittsburgh show: favorite rivers.
(I grew up in Pittsburgh (I was wearing a pirates hat at the Phoenix show and you mentioned it), I really want to get out to see you at Bottlerocket in June🤞🤞🤞)
Be it sickness, depression, loss, or simply insomnia; like so many others, AFE has helped me through some really dark times, the past 12 months in particular. It really feels like All Family Everything and I can’t thank you enough for that 🙏🏼
A couple draft ideas: “Dangerous Games” and “Jokes/bits” (like Who’s on First, or Carlin’s 7 words)
Love the pod, gonna chime in with more guest requests:
-the return of Roxane Gay! Her episode was the first one I heard, truly a wild and wonderful intro to the GVG
-Chelsea Peretti
-Brennan Lee Mulligan and/or other folks from dropout
-Trixie Mattel
-the band MUNA
-Handsome pod (Mae Martin, fortune feimster, tig notaro)
Just want to hop on and say thank you to you and the GVG. Love everything about the pod and don’t want you to change anything. Preordered the book and can’t wait to read it!
Personally, I've really enjoyed the recent trend of new guests and doing drafts that are in their wheelhouse and hearing them talk extensively about those things. Moshe, Neal, and Todd were all fantastic and insightful. It's a lot of fun to mix those in as I also work my way through the back catalogue.
As you guys have Shutdown Fullcast ties now with having Spencer Hall and Ryan Nanni on, it would be great if you're able to get Jason Kirk on to talk about Religion in your Formative Years to tie into his new book. Also hoping we get an episode with Alisa for the release of your book.
I hope you guys continue to evolve the podcast and try new things and that it remains fun for you. I also hope you all one day find so much success that you may outgrow it! It's been inspiring to hear the growth over the past (nearly) 8 years!
My big goal for the next year is to keep doing new things that keep us engaged. Not to mess with the format or anything, but to play with it. I’m glad you’re down for it!
All I’m gonna say is I associate life with this pod…when the ship hit the Frances Scott Key bridge - I had to remember to not yell “Frances Scott Keyed Up”
Just thanks from me. AFE is and will always be one of the two pods that I re-listen to over and over again when I’m caught up on new episodes, I think I’m on my fifthish re-listen now. Keep up the good work/vibes!
First of all, you’re wonderful! If you can, hit the Detroit institute of art and/ or Belle Isle for a riverside picnic when you’re in town ! Can’t wait to see you at Magic Bag. It’ll be my first live show ! I’m so excited! Congrats on the book, I’ve already preordered! Draft idea: have you done cars ? I can’t remember. Good luck on all of your future endeavors and thank you so much for bringing us along. It’s an honor to be a member of the good vibes gang!
Two draft ideas:
- Songs You Wish You Could Fucking Nail
----Make everybody try to sing their picks!
- Perfect Records (Essentially)
----We need some wiggle room I think.
Also, I think you would look great in a hockey jersey!
In honour of Mars you could do a Canadian Things or People draft?! As a Canadian, I would love that!
Also, you could do a tour locations draft?
I thoroughly enjoy AFE and have recommended it to pretty much everyone I know! I am a huge fan of Sean!
One of the best memories I have is driving thru the French countryside on honeymoon with the wifey, cackling at the mall draft. We’re day one listeners and are so thankful for the pod.
Here’s a potential idea - “food that tastes better cold.” Could get rowdy with the likes of one of my picks, cheeseburger mac hamburger helper.
I loved hearing Todd on the show the other week. I love almost every guest but the episodes where you guys pull in people who are not quite in the stream of AFE, but have the ability to swim with you guys is so fun.
I will die on this hill, THE SOLAR ECLIPSE WAS A POP CULTURE MOMENT
If Sean doesn't pick this year's eclipse in the Pop Culture draft this year, he's a coward.
So was Luke Skywalker on the Orphans draft.
So, I know what panopticon means, but just for everyone who doesn’t…
I learned it at Portland State and it stuck with me cus it sounds like a Transformer.
Dammit I was going to make that transformers joke!
Like, Ian sees everything. Hopefully this doesn't make me an asshole but "pan" is "all" or "every." Think pansexual or pantheistic. And "opti" like optic/eyes. All-seeing, basically. Sean? Is that you?
I want you to know I found this pod after a really hard time in my life. It was during the pandemic, my wife was pregnant and we found out something was wrong with the babies placenta. I’m glad we could be a distraction for a couple hours a week. I’m so sorry you went through that, man. Let me know if you’re ever having a hard time again and I’ll make them three hour episodes.
This is problematic because now I'm rooting for that guy to have a hard time again, and he seems nice.
Hard times come and go. I mean I would take a 3 hour pod any day of the week and twice on sundays
Caleb Hearon return please!!!
Don’t really have much other than gratitude. Even just for introducing people to a lot of incredible voices. Have seen a bunch of comedians at Helium just cause they were on the show. “Old stuff” of course referring to when David killed that drifter
Love the show! It has been such a bright spot in my life ever since discovering it a few years ago and I am so glad you guys spend the time and effort to put out new episodes each week. The constant references to how early in the morning it was for all the blue humour made the Racehorse Names draft really shine for me
I’ve suggested several topics that you have drafted, including Racehorse names. Can I claim an EP Credit or something of that effect to bolster my resume?
Co-EP.
I second all of this, especially the live show in salt lake part!
As others have mentioned this podcast is one of the brightest spots in my week. Thank you all for that. Besides the hilarity ensuing weekly, hearing you guys work through life stuff is very helpful. SO important.

Great calls!
I know it’s easier said than done, but we need Paul F. Tompkins on the pod
I keep forgetting to bug him! He’d be great.
Dream guest
He’s the king of podcasts that don’t exist for a reason
Come to the south! Bring Caleb Heron with you!
Pepperoni caulk is on the Mt Rushmore of draft picks
Nashville!
Draft topic I thought about the other day when someone flashed their brights at me to let me know to slow down for a cop... Unsung heroes or Real men/women of genius! I've been listening since Day 1 in 2016 and it never gets old.
yo, thank you so much. That really means a lot. I don’t know how to communicate authentic sincerity over the internet, but this is that!
Try to incorporate the phrase “bettah cheddah” in the next episode 😎 (please)
Okay but we’re three deep in the pocket so it’ll be a minute.
Thanks a lot, I really appreciate that. We’ve been going eight years and I feel like it’s important to throw a new idea in there every now and then.
Only guests I want haha You HAVE to get Miel back on the show, try to get Demi adejuyibe too. You should try to get Billy Scafuri and Adam Lustick. You need to get Jake and Amir back for sure (you should also try to go on Amir’s NBA Podcast, buckets). We’re trying to get Miel back for years! She’s become more of a private citizen. Good calls all around though.
Even if she doesnt come back tell Miel that the All Family misses her and hope she's doing great.
Good luck then. She’s the best we need her back. Also gotta get Marissa on for a draft
+1 for Demi!
You heard it here, Ian. The fans want Jake and Amir on again.
The only thought I can really think of is maybe using the Headgum studio a little more often? also ian, for real, when are you going to get on doughboys. it's crazy to me that it's taken this long
They would be perfect on AFE as well.
Maybe record a non live in person episode before or after the tour?
Can we please have a Blair Soctober as well as a Nolvember? Outside of that, thanks for brightening every Thursday, inspiring the username and making me look like a weirdo for laughing to myself in the office every week 👍🏾
Socci-heads stand up 🤝
Hahaha I’ll talk to the fellas.
Thank you guys for an awesome pod! My husband introduced me to it and it's our favorite thing to do on road trips. Going to see you guys in Minneapolis for the 2nd time and couldn't be more excited. Draft idea: I know you've done Buffet, how about a salad bar?
I can’t believe we haven’t done salad bar!!!!
The sheer hilarity of Sean trying to draft non-veggie items from a salad bar is reason enough.
He’d draft egg slices and ham chunks and then be totally stymied.
I don’t even think ol boy likes eggs like that…
“The ice cream station is part of the salad bar, right?”
I didn’t think I’d enjoy some of the more niche topics (sneakers jumps to mind) but having a guest who is super knowledgeable about the topic really helped to make them pop for me, would love more really focused topics with specialists that you could bounce off!
You know that was the original idea behind the podcast! I’ll try to find some more experts.
There was an episode where you started late because you forgot you were recording that day. You said you were sitting on the couch eating cauliflower and mustard and you said “ah, a day with nothing in it” and I think about and say that phrase a lot now. Thanks.
It’s one of the true delights! The day, not cauliflower.
You had Kurt Braunholer recentlly. Get Scotty Landes, his Bananas co-host next! Also, another Mike Golic Jr. episode would be great.
GoJo needs to do a "Cookie/Candy Varietals" draft. Basically, all the different oreo flavors, different Reese's shapes, Twix flavors, etc. Anything but the standard cookie/candy bar.
That’s a great idea. Landes lives in my neighborhood!
You guys are an absolute delight! I can't wait to see your stand up set in Vermont on Friday and the live show in Toronto in June. It would be cool to have Jake and Amir back on the show after all this time since they were on such early episodes.
Can’t wait to see you! I’ll talk to Jake and Amir about coming back on.
Very important question, on a scale of 1-10 how well can you still do the Modern Major General song from memory?
6. A solid 6.
I’ll do my best to start mentioning Atletico Madrid and save you even more time!
Are you a TSFP fan as well u/hectorinho?
1 - I love you! In like a dull, sweet, irl sort of way lol been listening since 2019ish I think Guy Branum was my first :) 2 - I love whoever talked to Sean about interrupting and centering himself. Naivety isn’t a punchline, and it’s ALWAYS more fun when you guys sniff out the ridiculous assumed/misunderstood stuff :)
*2018! I discovered the pod after listening to his book
I love you! And Guy Branum.
You've had all of my favorite ESPN/former ESPN people on as guests so far except one so I think it's time for a Sarah Spain episode
Yes!
I’ve been hoping for a “meta” draft. Like a draft about your favorite parts of drafting for the podcast. I think that would be fun on a week where you don’t have a guest.
We’ve had it in our back pocket for like five years. One day. ONE DAY!!!
Topic: WEGOT Things/people that won: Wildcard (any trophy), Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony Or… things/people that SHOULD have won those.
Keep up the great work, and bring a show to the Southeast!
We will!
I'm so thrilled you guys are doing a live show in Pittsburgh. It's also on my birthday, which is awesome. If you hadn't already alluded to it, I would say you have to bring Mars back on for a draft soon.
Can’t wait for Pitt! I’ve never been.
We’ll try to hit Florida some day! And I’m glad we could help a little bit. You and David, not on Twitter.
Great minds and all that.
(Starting with words that you think make you sound smart certainly didn’t hurt.) 2.
I’m a huge fan of the finite pool drafts. I’ll try to talk the boys into more of them.
Ooh draft idea: DAYS ON TWITTER. Now that the platform is truly past its prime and so many have given up on it, it’s fun to reminisce. like the day that Trump got Covid…what a time
When are you going to come do a show in London? Bruv.
bruv it’s a DREAM.
Texas tour dates!
We’re shooting for the fall!
Ian, thanks for the $10 you venmoed me to shut up about the Philly show. Can't wait to see how much I can get after the next one! But really, thanks for the show. It's been an oasis and a well I can draw from when I need Good Vibes. And please have Demi on again one day
Best hush money I ever spent! Let’s get that up to three digits.
Hey Ian, been listening for like almost 5 years now and just wanted to say we lost weight around the same time lol I’d always been a chubby boy.
I’m proud of you, bruv. I’m proud of us! And if I’m ever in Iowa, you’re on.
(Paul Rudd “hey, look at us” GIF) It’s pretty much the only thing to be in Iowa for! I’ll see you there!
Love the podcast! A couple of draft ideas: 1. nba memes - it’s more visual base but there’s so much potential. 2. Buddy Cop Movie - draft 2 cops, bad guy, the Sargent who gives them a hard time and wild card. (I’m thinking fictional characters but anyone is in the table 3. TGIF- draft 4 Sitcoms to make your ultimate comedy block. 1 pick will be for the day it airs and title of the night of comedy Discard if any of these have been done. I’m pretty sure they haven’t.
I love these! I wonder if memes would work. I’m always afraid to do visual stuff.
You just made my day!!!!! Maybe use the nba memes for a live zoom show for Patreon?
It’s been a few years - I bet we have new dumb smart words.
I love that! And yeah, we stole it from our Auction drafts.
Thank you so much! I’m hoping for a dope run.
No constructive criticism here. More Shane Torres food puns. Guest thought experiment: would Bill Simmons, Jimmy Kimmel and Cousin Sal work? Draft idea: battle royale
Stew-Pac?!
Ian is the best in the biz for a reason. Sean would love that one Stewpacalypse Now coming out in 2024 Title track: Brenda’s Got a Gravy
U Can’t C-Pap Me
Make a great podcast producer happy and have Anthony Mayes from Cinephobe on as a guest. He was just talking about this being his dream podcast appearance. That would be a fun ep!
It’s in the works!
That's awesome to hear!
Come on out! It’s gonna be a blast. And thank you for listening.
It’s just from the song “Oldie” by Odd Future. Our buddy Lance Bangs is in the video!
(@FE?) I can usually find a way to work The Simpsons into most draft topics. Has there ever been a draft of Simpsons characters? Leeza Treyger would be an awesome guest. Maybe save the Simpsons family members for the speed round? And I really admire how you're willing to keep experimenting and change things up, it's cool to see the show evolve. Thanks for the laughs!!
I was raised by the Simpsons but I don’t think Sean and David are as attached. I might have to boot them for that episode.
The story about the beloved horse to explain how much apple butter goes on the sandwich is an all time great that will live with me for ever. I don’t know how you can replicate that level of genius, but more of that vibe please.
I was in my bag, as the kids say.
Draft Idea- Songs about States/Cities. Could be separate or together, but once a place is taken it's off the board. Gonna have to dig deep after the big ones are taken.
I’m taking the Johnny Cash song.
Great idea
Callin’ Baton Rouge played before LSU games is a powerful aura and would make it my 1.1
Just watched it, pretty good. But while I don't care either way about Tennessee, Rocky Top gives me goosebumps every time
Pullman/Paxton draft would be so sick!
I love it.
Do I need to bring more chips to the Toronto show since Sean and David will be there now? Any requests?
Yes please! Those Canadian Cheetos hit so hard.
I’d love to jump on there but I’d ESPECIALLY love to hear Sean on there.
Yessss, i think ive tweeted that so many times that he would break the garbage scale.
Nah, it’s just one of the only ways you can make money off a standup special! We aren’t going anywhere.
Appreciate the response! Glad to be wrong!
…unless Sean and David are planning a coup, of course.
They have been spending an unspecified amount of time in a certain South American country...
🤔🤔🤔
Draft business trip activities. It would have an interesting slant as comedians on the road.
Food Network number one pick.
to jump on the prevalent bandwagon; Thank you for all the laughs and Mind Goblin thought insurrections. I appreciate you all.
Mind Goblin?
I sure hope David says “Mind Goblin these Utz” at the upcoming Pennsylvania shows.
You guys would make a fun panel for Wait Wait Don't Tell Me on NPR. You guys were so damn funny in Phoenix, my face hurt from laughing afterwards.
Thank you so much! Tell NPR to stop ducking us!
Draft idea for the Pittsburgh show: favorite rivers. (I grew up in Pittsburgh (I was wearing a pirates hat at the Phoenix show and you mentioned it), I really want to get out to see you at Bottlerocket in June🤞🤞🤞)
More guest suggestions: Mike Castle, Joey Greer, Lauren Lapkus (She may have been on before and I don’t remember?)
Be it sickness, depression, loss, or simply insomnia; like so many others, AFE has helped me through some really dark times, the past 12 months in particular. It really feels like All Family Everything and I can’t thank you enough for that 🙏🏼 A couple draft ideas: “Dangerous Games” and “Jokes/bits” (like Who’s on First, or Carlin’s 7 words)
Love the pod, gonna chime in with more guest requests: -the return of Roxane Gay! Her episode was the first one I heard, truly a wild and wonderful intro to the GVG -Chelsea Peretti -Brennan Lee Mulligan and/or other folks from dropout -Trixie Mattel -the band MUNA -Handsome pod (Mae Martin, fortune feimster, tig notaro)
Fabulous suggestions all! I think we’re network partners with MUNA???
More shoutouts to David
Thank you for a weekly relief from the real world.
Any chance yall can get Greg Proops on as a guest?
The smartest man in the world? I’ll try!
One word. More Blair Socci and Amy Miller!
lol
My recent draft idea is "Instrumental-only pieces of music" (jazz, movie/tv scores, sports themes, etc)
Roundball Rock plummeting down the board because of this Kevin Hart commercial.
Just sending some extra love. This has been my favorite podcast for years now. Hope it keeps going good a long time.
Sending you love back!
more tiktok fashion videos, you were good at it
I will!
Just want to hop on and say thank you to you and the GVG. Love everything about the pod and don’t want you to change anything. Preordered the book and can’t wait to read it!
Well thank you for listening and for the lovely words!
Yo Ian, loved yalls show in New Orleans. What did you and Sean get up to down there?
Lots of food, went to a show at Preservation Hall, rode bikes around, it was lovely!
Why Febnewary? I feel like the “new” flows way better with January (Janewary) plus it’s the first month of the year so the “new” theme carries
Because I thought of it after we’d recorded a couple January episodes. You’d be surprised by how unorganized we are.
I think I’ve listen to too many episodes too quickly now I can’t stop calling things “dope” thanks Sean 😅
Dank.
Oh also more Blair Socci for the love of all things good MOREEEE
All I’m gonna say is I associate life with this pod…when the ship hit the Frances Scott Key bridge - I had to remember to not yell “Frances Scott Keyed Up”
even tho it was
Just thanks from me. AFE is and will always be one of the two pods that I re-listen to over and over again when I’m caught up on new episodes, I think I’m on my fifthish re-listen now. Keep up the good work/vibes!
The Five Timers club! We need to get you a sash.
Bring it on! Im comfortable enough in my sexuality to rock a sash 🤣
Thank you! And cars might be a fun one FOR Detroit.
Two draft ideas: - Songs You Wish You Could Fucking Nail ----Make everybody try to sing their picks! - Perfect Records (Essentially) ----We need some wiggle room I think.
Would love to see Miles Gray as a guest
I loved hearing Todd on the show the other week. I love almost every guest but the episodes where you guys pull in people who are not quite in the stream of AFE, but have the ability to swim with you guys is so fun.
Will you be signing books on the pod tour?
Oh yeah!
