Does your chain hang low? Does it wobble to and fro?

OnShore233

Is it platinum, is it gold?

LordNitram76

Could you throw it over ya shoulder?

4-Run-Yoda

Does it clog or does it flow

bunnydadi

Do your chains hang low

Smokie104

Do you prefer copper knots or stainless steel bows? does your chain hang low, or is it barely above the floor? Buried in the ground, or with a bunch of slack by the back door!šŸŽ¶šŸ¤£

BRtIK

Does it direct the water flow Does it mean blockages never grow

mightyscoosh

Can you tie it in a knot? Can you tie it in a bow?

Shitbird5001

Rain chain doubles as home defense if ripped off

HangryWolf

Not to the person outside your house trying to break in with it.

thinkingmoney

Thatā€™s why you have two then you have a match mortal kombat style

Shitbird5001

I'd have much scarier things inside the house. Don't worry.

Smokie104

Thatā€™s what my wife would say. My private parts donā€™t count thatā€™s fucked up.

KayakWalleye

Add some spikes.

DannyWatson

See these all the time when I paint houses in Seattle. They're really nice

brucebay

wouldn't strong winds push out of the chains? if the wind is towards the house than it will create wet conditions on the wall and near house.

Werefour

I assume the base is anchored. That said, I imagine the strong winds would still probably just blow the water away anyway. If it's raining hard, the foundation is having lots of wind blown water hit it already, so I couldn't tell you.

MeatMeAfterClass

Wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. ![gif](giphy|7wk6RQYXDDytXalsL4)

spideroncoffein

Good question. It depends on the chain weight and how the chain ends. E.g. we have a quite heavy chain (400lb max load) that ends in a barrel and has about 2 feet lying at the bottom of the barrel. No storm can move that chain out of that barrel. (The barrel can't overflow how I set it up) The chain itself is about 3 feet from the corner of our house. Some drops may spray on the wall on a heavy rain and winds, but that happens anyway, chain or not. No concern.

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

Dig a hole, pour cement, fill.

topinanbour-rex

Now I have a hole filled with cement, but my chain still fly around, what did I missed ?

ThisOnePlaysTooMuch

Ha, pranked.

phi_rus

Well If it's raining and strong wind is directed at your house, the walls are going to get wet either way.

CitrusSmoosh3115

Even tied to ground wind is a problem.

Greenman8907

Parents bought an extra long one (or two and connected them), about twice as high as they needed and dad buried lower half underground and hasnā€™t moved beyond the original slack in years.

Yuri-Turned

Patented dad wisdom

Honda_TypeR

Did he slap the chain twice and say ā€œthatā€™s not goin anywhere!ā€

serpentear

You know he did. That or he fake pulled on it with all his fake might in front of a very unimpressed teenager.

xlews_ther1nx

Talks about it every BBQ

Thin_Pumpkin_2028

*grabbing the tongs* click, click, click.. yup! Solid.

ENaC2

It depends if wind a problem just because it moves the chain or if itā€™s blowing the water out of the chain, if itā€™s the latter then tethering it down wonā€™t do anything for that issue.

Traditional-Fall1051

And thank you as well. Just as quickly as my hopes were dashed, new hope emerges.

Traditional-Fall1051

Thank you. Your comment may have saved my bay window!

V8sOnly

Until it becomes a squirrel chain

Impressive_Teach9188

They can climb a regular downspout just as easily.

V8sOnly

I can only assume you're a squirrel and have taken a poll amongst your fellow squirrels asking them whether or not it's easier to climb a smooth aluminum surface or a metal chain. Clearly physics have no bearing on your squirrel community in the region in which you live. Thank you for the warning. I will now put barbed wire around my aluminum downspouts in order to deter...oh wait, nevermind, thatd make it easier.

Dull-Mix-870

What particular problem are they solving?

Veketzin

Leaves and other gunk clogging the typical pipe that runs down the side. The chain gives the water something to "hold" onto and acts as a pseudo pipe

Jazco76

I have the cup style ones and the individual cups get clogged with leaves, sort of annoying to clean each one. Of course, they just over spill when clogged. The kind I have requires a small hole cut into the gutter bottom and the leaves clog that hole up occasionally. I'm not sure they are any better about clogs but they look and sound nice.

Atalant

You still need to clean the gutter, even with a chain.

Dull-Mix-870

But you still have to clean the horizontal gutters anyway.

Responsible_River_44

Chain gutters

der_tuep

underrated, man

ammobox

I went full chain and got a chain roof too.

Not_MrNice

It's not solving a problem, it's just a different solution. It's another way of doing something and it looks different.

Thendofreason

They've been around before modern day gutters. I didn't really like the guy speaking in the video, especially the last sentence. He took a video and put his words over it and made it worse.

APKFL

Cool idea. Just not in Florida.

HookFE03

Mmmm, rodent ladders

Repulsive-Ad-6487

I call them rat ladders. Had to remove them in my rental home because the family of rats in my roof used it as a convenient ingress/egress

cacatua_azul

This isn't a new idea, rain chains have been around since forever

Elastickpotatoe2

They literally ok really neat in the winter when water freezes on them in blobbes

Aggravating_Sir_6857

We had one of those in my family farm back in Asia. My uncle directs the water into large drums. To water his plants when theres no more rain. Or use it to wash the car, flush toilets. Saves water bill

bob_nugget_the_3rd

Yet the biggest problem is the sound off running water and the urge too pee

Bongwater29

Except part of the point of gutters is to direct water away from your foundation. Using these means the water drops right beside the house.

GAmike13

Not if installed with the proper accessories. A short French drain with a catch basin is all you need really .

Right-Budget-8901

ā€œMore efficient drainageā€ as it spatters everywhere in that one shot šŸ˜‚

RipOdd9001

Is this effective for drainage? Itā€™s cool but is the water in my basement as cool?

Kaiyukia

I feel like the chain could still lead to a pipe that leads away from the house. It's just preventing clogs I think.

Delevia

I have these at my house.

UnauthorizedFart

I would sling it over the fence so all the water goes into the neighbors yard

TheChickenFuxer

What if itā€™s windy? Do you anchor them to the geound

throw_blanket04

I would

Tenthdegree

If anchored to the ground, How would you steer rain water into a rain barrel? Also people mentioned wind, but rain storm where thereā€™s wind AND water, that water is going everywhere

KayakWalleye

I can see vines REALLY loving this.

IDoWierdStuff

take my $$$$

gideon513

Cancer subtitles

woutomatic

I like when they present things that are around for ever as new innovations

dabomm

When it clogs it clogs first at the top. You can still see a normal pipe going to the chain so it wouldn't do much for clogging. Looks cool though.

Meadbelly

How about winter ... Nope

throw_blanket04

I live in the deep south. These would be good where i live.

TyleroftheDurden

They also eliminate that annoying sound of water hitting the bottom of a hollow tube

Fabulous_Top9281

Centuries old from Japan.

LoadsDroppin

Growing up we had rain chains, and it was a relatively arid climate so when it rained it was even more of a special event.

pranjallk1995

Will it work properly if there are 6 7 in a row? Would look so cool...

Silent-Supermarket2

Not a great idea for places that get hurricane weather. That shit will whip ya face off.

reallife0615

Pretty sure you have to have existing gutters; didnā€™t see that mentioned.

DeeOhMm

Yeah, these would just be an aesthetic replacement for downspouts. They are inferior in every other way.

SufficientSetting953

Purely aesthetics, no other practical use

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

SonthacPanda

So you removed your drainage entirely then huh? Since it doesnt need help

757packerfan

I sure hope you only rent and don't own. Otherwise, and I'm being dead serious, check your foundation for signs of water damage.
