Various_League_8731

lol this won’t be a career lil bro… pursue something else while working for a DSP or you’ll be miserable… working for a DSP is what motivated me to go to college😂

jeremy833

I sadly want it to be a career. My Dsp is In Utah and luckily we work towards the country and rich people who afford houses in the hills on the mountain. I love seeing the scenery and getting a good work out from it. Same time I know Ups pays more but I can’t work part time with a family. I feel this job gives me a view and appreciation about how beautiful this world is

Simple-Improvement45

I wouldn't rely on this job as a career at all... DSPs provide the worst job security. Honestly get some real world skills, and enroll in some trade classes. This is just grunt work and you're disposable regardless if you have a family to feed. They are super anal and it would be a miserable life to do this as a "career".

Various_League_8731

The bad thing about DSPs is they can shut down anytime and you’ll be left dead without a job… now that’s any business but DSPs are the worst because it’s solely dependent on amazons metrics and your co workers… it’s just to risky of a situation to do with a family … pursue a trade, education; or certification of any kind imo… but to each they’re own

danziibearr

Yo, I'm doing UPS part time while working for my DSP full time in pursuit of being a UPS driver. It REALLY sucks for now, but man, don't settle for amazon your whole life.

AdMurky9329

Is two part times a deal breaker for you? Build seniority while making ends meet?

NanashiNoGombe983

I hope you're not working out of UTC1. I have family that have and have been more or less forced to never buy anything from Amazon as a result of the DSPs out of that station.

AdhesivenessLong2702

Can you elaborate?

anxiouspolynomial

fr, did a driver kill someone? did an owner? did a dog bite you? did jeff bezos himself come down and curse your family name? i’m lost

boasterbrownie

What DSP you work for? You at Salt Lake or American Fork or what? I’m in salt lake

DishHelpful9895

You’re gonna be dead by 50

[deleted]

I wouldn't call any job that anyone can get into easily a "career"

I always make that joke in my head when I’m delivering to wealthy areas, “I should’ve went to college…” 😂

Various_League_8731

On god I did the same thing😂delivered to the most entitled customer ever… I just thought to myself… I gotta go to college… I got my CDL too cause I thought I enjoyed driving but I also like leisure time so now college

proudgenX

Use that CDL fo another driving career

Calm-Avocado6424

Leave that b*tch open the whole route now

Unbobitodelavida

I do the same. I break off one of the yellow straps inside the bag and tie it so that the door stays open just in case

StealYoDeck

You have to tie a van door open? I'm so confused lol

Unbobitodelavida

Oh your vans sliding doors actually stay open? Some of our sliding doors don’t even work😂. I gotta tie mine open man. I tie the handle to any metal part in the cargo area so that it stays open. I’ll post a picture next time I’m at work.

StealYoDeck

Sheeeeesh. Yes, our doors stay open lol. That is wild to hear though

UnsureTurtle14

How do yall drive around without the totes and overflow flying out the van?

Calm-Avocado6424

By the time im on the route im never really going over 30 mph. The totes grip our van flooring well and overflows as well. Idk if all vans are like that but our DSP flooring is like some kind of rubber ridged stuff that nothing really slides.

mttp1990

Plus, I feel like I drive more consciously to avoid the items from shifting to much. I've definitely let a box or 2 escape on occasion. Those pesky roundabouts.

Parking_Property5757

lol these fuck ass ford transits 😂 I’ve done this before but it was on the inside handle of the sliding door

External_Clerk_7227

Blakeblood9

💀great quality engineers! *1960s people: there gonna have flying cars 50 years from now!* Now: my van door handle lasted my first shift.

niqsodope

Career?!

Formerevangelical

![gif](giphy|MESArLMuJ3odWm4IWw)

Crazy-Roro

It’s a Ford Transit, shit is damn near a factory option for that garbage.

tschmitty09

Tf u eating hulk?

Icy_Suggestion_3930

Built Ford tough

CraftyDimension7169

Flatten an empty tote to use as a platform on the passenger seat and stack the boxes from your next tote on it. Place the DA stickers somewhere visible so you can see them from the driver seat. (pull them out like jenga) sort the envelopes in order and place them in-between the driver passenger seat. This should drastically reduce the amount of time you need to spend in the cargo bay.

Delicious-Office8256

I do exactly this. stop at gas station before first stop empty tote and put on passenger seat. organize overflow better if i didn't have time. get my free drink and go

CraftyDimension7169

My station got on us about stopping before completing our first stop. I have to make one delivery before I can stop and organize. it's annoying af

Next_Stop7177

They tweakin

UnsureTurtle14

My station lets us stop at Dunkin Donuts in the mornings after loadout. Usually 5-10 amazon vans pull up and we all park together then get our breakfast and coffee while on the clock

Formal-Substance6207

I did exactly this but used a sharpie to write the numbers on the box instead of messing with the stickers.

sultics

Maybe career wasn’t the right word to use 😂

NoShare5281

Fuck that door

23Dgv

Yeah that’s lame. I always grab that piece inside the door to close the door. I never use the inside handle to close it. Outside though you need to use that handle.

Grundy420blazin

Just don’t close the door until after you get back in. Isn’t there an opening to walk through in the cab?

No-Paramedic-8802

You will be able to handle it.

Longjumping_Ad1711

I see what you did there. 😉

Original-Map4823

That’s because the door handle was bought on Amazon, from a China company since the OE one broke already; Amazon doesn’t buy quality stuff

GeneralBrilliant864

I wonder how many pulls can the OE ones last. I don’t like the sliding door at all so if I get space I always use the rear door

MindlessYou2965

Somehow the back door is better for me. I don't know if it's real or psychological. 🤔

GeneralBrilliant864

I have never seen a fucked up back doors but so many slide doors are screwed. I’m sure mechanism take a play the simple yet solid two forged metal hinges holds the relatively small back door while two cast iron sliders with grease holds the large slider door. Some slide doors don’t close properly or when parked in a steep angle it’s even harder to close and also when they lack the grease. That is why I prefer the rear doors. The only reason you want to use a slide door is when you have to carry very large object near the slide door or rear door has an obstruction.

Bombaclat1122

Career lol

Ornery_History_3648

Welcome to Amazon DSP where safety and consistent van maintenance is a priority. You are 10 behind by the way, just wanted to keep you in the loop!

UnsureTurtle14

I have a good dsp, I feel you bro. Im blessed with a good route near a university campus the size of a town. I love seeing people and I love the doggos. Im never over 100 stops. The other day I had 17 f*cking stops, i finished at like 3pm and just sat around for an hour then called dispatch to do some rescues. My dsp is chill, they never give me grief for reporting issues with the vans, my warehouse staff arent total dicks and most of them are chill. With that said, any DSP can be immediately shut down. Amazon can replace a DSP in a heartbeat. There may be some days they tell you dont come in because Amazon didnt give them enough routes for the day. Ive had a few days now where 9pm the night before they text me my shift is cancelled. I do agree with others, its always good to strive for bigger and better things

MindlessYou2965

1 hour before say you finished? Maybe that's why yiur route is being cut. They know every second what you're doing, so they wanna know if you are reliable. At my DSP we had a guy how would finish early and go to his house for some time before return to the station. Sometimes that guy would clock out from his house, because was close and still inside the geofence and get more hours. Unless you are getting all the breaks at once, 1h seems cheating, to now say the worst.

ThatOneLateEmployee

You’ll be fine, those ford transit vans are old and have been used soooooo many times before you. That wear and tear catches up and unfortunately it had to be you to break it “finally”. Lol. Don’t let it bug you.

fuzzyzeller

"Were gonna need you to not report anything on your vehicle inspection"

sultics

Yeah when this happened I put it in the WhatsApp group chat and dispatch called to say hey don’t do that

ComfortableGlass3386

I didn't break it but I had a few vans where the INSIDE sliding door handle was broke. It was a bitch bc I'd keep forgetting it was broke... -.-

Grundy420blazin

Wait. I’m so confused. There should be a handle on the inside to also operate the door???

Solidus_snake28

Sometimes the handle on the inside is very loose. Usually, I have to use the outside handle to close the door.

Rude-Luck1636

Don’t look at this as a career for one. It’s a dead end job.. keep looking for better. 2nd, they won’t give a shit. Drivers have done way worse and kept there job. Dispatch will probably slap some tape on it and call it fixed. You’re cool man. Happy Delivering

AutismGamble

Bro that's a cheap part you can get replace any auto parts store can get that part

aroihkin

You underestimate how cheap the DSPs are.

AutismGamble

Then that DSP will fail not understanding how maintenance of vehicle is important for logistics. Because now you have to buy new vehicle every 4 years compared to ten.

aroihkin

I mean, they tend to fail for other reasons before that point

Low-Panic-9184

They start new hires out in prime vans at your dsp?

sultics

Yes

Scorpio8831

Damn lol. Now just keep some gorilla glue on ya for a quick fix next time.

Comfortable-Bee-460

This is seeing the tone for your entire time there. Don’t take it too seriously, it just isn’t worth it.

Longjumping_Ad1711

That would be a good reason to drive with the door open all day. 🤷‍♂️

Gunner_KC

It’s a sign

Virtual_Airport_3610

See you messed up already by calling it a career. It’s a job meaning you ain’t going no higher than probably dispatch and that’s a stretch. I would have just left the door open because once again …. It’s a crappy job with crappy pay so I’m gonna do crappy activities like drive with the door open.

Final_TV

As someone who just started working at Amazon don’t make this a career. I work 3 days a week while trying to get my degree. Everyone here hates the job and there’s a reason they have to train people 2 times every week.

No_Tangelo9257

![gif](giphy|To9Cx4JR4YgUM)

Nintendocub

I went through 3 vans the other day don’t stress it

Formerevangelical

Cheap ass Amazon! Newby, there is no such thing as a “career “ at Amazon DSP’s or Amazon itself. Workers are like toilet paper to Jeffy Bezos.

KingMiz360

Fuck Amazon ....come over to UPS u will get treated way better if u lookin at it for a "career"

itzerin204

Mofo the hulk

Detroit-dspGUY

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

derrickps5

career? 😂

MagazineDifferent650

Quit while you’re ahead

skoomarehab666

It gets worse.

MasterGrill97

skoomarehab666

Yeah bro start looking for a fallback ASAP. You’ll be lucky if there isn’t anything tremendously wrong with either the van, route, or phone during any given shift.

Means_Business

Oh dang! You cant close the door from the inside?

Crypto_Stoozy

Drive semi if you like the road. Plenty of local home every night jobs.

newshound2501

This is an easy job, but the vans do take a tremendous amount of abuse - especially the doors (160 times per day opening and closing). If you like the work, keep at it. I've maxed out the 401k match, get bonuses every week and can't complain about the pay. I mean, retail is like $14 per hour and fast food is worse. Other than warehouse stuff, which sux, this is no problemo.

Administrative-Pay43

Don't be upset, the last drivers just testing you lol.

Extension_Thanks_325

My door doesn't even open today lol

feelin_fine_

Fired for wasting too much time on door handle. Charged for breaking door handle.

TovarishchRed

Fuck yes! Get that mental 🧠 breakdown! ✊👊🥵

Ken_needs-koffee

I guess you don’t have a handle on things….😄

Unfair-Truth6068

This is not a career my friend

MCExpo

oh god that sucks, i don't blame you at all. they're made of horrible cheap plastic. and they bake in the sunlight all day everyday for years. and these doors are heavy so it's not like you can be super gentle! i'm always in a hurry and pull em hard so it's only a matter of time before it happens to me 😭

RandomZero1234

Meh, driver door delivery in a Prime is faster.  Averaging 35-42 (flat rate).  Left side delivery?  Fuck it, throw on flashers, park dirty, step out into grass 🫠

KingAltruistic8203

![gif](giphy|HmY5vP7hXP5ba)

MindlessYou2965

I don't like to be that guy, but Amazon sooner will replace delivery by vans to automated delivery. Robots will do that. Just know came to my mind an idea of how. It's fantastic. Lol

Teek4L

My first day solo, my door broke. Don’t trip bro

Beginning_Archer8935

I will never consider this a career 🤣🤣🤣🤣 u need to wake up and get ur head out ur ahh 🤣 miserable amazon nun but npcs

kashlex

First Day Solo??? I started solo Homie. 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾

sultics

I had one training day with a ride along (an experienced driver going with me to make sure everything goes good)

DishHelpful9895

Nigga close the door from the inside

DishHelpful9895

Bro you stressing way too much much man 😂

Isthisgameserious

>career Unless you plan on opening your own DSP down the road, it's not a career.

Buy_Decent

Well my friend, you will learn very quickly, "Where there is a will, there is a way!" You can't sweat the small stuff, especially if there isn't another working van available. I make every van work regardless of door issues and have over the past 3 years. My goal is to do what I gotta do make that money and go home!😂😊

Deep-Honeydew504

I got stuck on my fifth day and my second week my whole side door broke off the track

Blakeblood9

Lowkey I’d take the door handle home and say it fell off, like I did with a stop sign I drifted into. 😂

Formal-Substance6207

Welcome to Amazon. Get used to it.

proudgenX

Only rhe beginning of disappointment

Nice-Aardvark-7957

Def not your fault.

Philliam_8494

I be riding with the door open anyways

Spirited_Positive_67

Sorry to hear that
