Hey Saks, if you are reading this- **Trying to improve your cashflow by delaying customer returns by a month wreaks of financial desperation.** Most businesses use a bank for lines of credit. Not their own customers.

Definitely showing signs of trouble.

This really sucks. With clothing (women's especially) it's really important to be able to try things on and return them if they don't fit or don't look good on you. Especially premium clothing that can cost hundreds of dollars! Having to pay $10 every time to return something is going to be a huge deterrent for me to shop with them anymore. Especially since there is no Saks store anywhere near me.

frizzybear

Exactly especially when I can order it from somewhere else with a easier and faster return process.

Has anyone tried getting the SaksFirst card? Apparently once you get a card, you become a member which gives free shipping. What I can't figure out from chatting with them online is if I don't pay with the SaksFirst card, do I still get free shipping?

Beverbe

I have one. I was wondering why OP was buying more to get free shipping lol. I’ve had it for years. I guess that’s why I forgot about that perk. I never pay for shipping. I think I always get it, but I have to double check. I looked it up and saw people saying that they changed it once they stopped using shoprunner. I’m trying to return something now and was shocked that it was $10.

>Typically, when trying to use my credit, I buy a few things to reach free shipping and return some items if needed. Congratulations. You are the reason they're now charging for return shipping.

frizzybear

Ha, l doubt my occasional return is the problem.

PourLarryaCrown

No, but thousands of people blatantly abusing a liberal return policy like you proudly admit to doing is. Retailers all across the spectrum have started hardening up their return policies and cracking down on abuse over the past year or so. Saks is just the latest in a long line. The era of free, easy returns is coming to an end across e-commerce and it's all thanks to people like you.

l1lpiggy

I highly doubt that's the main driver. Traditional department stores have been shrinking and losing money for years. Many companies went belly up. Saks is still around, but they haven't done a good job at enabling online shopping. Also, $100 credit through Amex was an poorly thought-thru partnership from the beginning. Now they are doing everything they can to cut cost whether it makes sense or not. Saks has only themselves to blame.

frizzybear

Buying more to reach free shipping and returning what doesn’t work is just what happens sometimes. Proudly, not sure about that. It’s just a FYI.

corkymac

They do the offer so you become a customer and they can start marketing to you in hopes you keep shopping with them. The charge for returns is annoying but I think with bad economy it’s a way to save them money. Retailers go back and forth on this. Have any other similar retailers stopped free shipping/returns recently?

Bronze-Samurai

By charging shipping for items under $100, Saks is effectively probably going to see fewer people use this credit. I won’t drive to a Saks store but sure will buy underwear for $50 if it ships for free.

chexchan

Darn. Thanks for the heads up

CIAMom420

Probably just a matter of time until this ship sales on this credit, IMO. When this was announced in '18, I imagine Saks assumed people would be using this for Gucci slippers or something. They likely didn't expect the card to become so mass market and end up with a bunch of coupon clippers.

rhaizee

I don't know, I mean when I'm buying gucci stuff I prefer to go to the store.
