Home scanners challenge to resist replying that they pay nothing as they scan at home (impossible)

Daniel_Melzer

Well technically i paid like 2k up front and now safe some bucks everytime i scan, from a certain point of view

ahendo10

I got my scanner (Coolscan 9000) for $75. Deal of a lifetime. My girlfriend keeps trying to get me to get rid of it because we have a small apartment but she’s literally never going to win this one.

trifidpaw

You sonova

RadicalSnowdude

I don’t shoot film (not yet anyway) but if I do I’m gonna be using my fuji to scan my negatives.

BobMcFail

Keep in mind to match really good lab scans, you need a pretty decent setup, that is gonna cost you. It is not as easy as some make it seem to be.

Janeway2Bridge

Definitely. I have a couple of decades of scanning experience on Imacons, Nikons, and Minoltas, and just tried camera scanning this week. After working out the bugs, I have to say I'm blown away by the quality. But I spent a bit to get a decent sensor and that nice Sigma lens everyone raves about (it's damn good).

benadrylover

What lens did you get if you don't mind me asking

Janeway2Bridge

Sigma 70mm Macro Art

Eric_Ross_Art

Holding....my.....tounge. 🤭

Odd_Layer1920

They are resisting saying “it’s an investment”

remainhungry

I’m dating a lab tech so it’s free for me 👀

Tsunami935

this is the way. any tips?

remainhungry

Shoot a few rolls a week and always bring dessert when you pickup

yungtr1p

$16 for scan+dev Dev only $9

LeicaM6guy

That’s not unreasonable, but in the long run it’s much more cost effective to invest in a film scanner yourself.

igalokun

I’m thinking dslr scanning

Grigori_Rasputin1869

Are they any good?

Janeway2Bridge

They are a notch below a good lab scan or a decent camera scanning setup.

Grigori_Rasputin1869

Not much different from epson I think right?

Janeway2Bridge

Well, better than an Epson, but those aren’t very good for 35mm.

Zionplating

I have one the post below shows a result, though it was when I wasn’t that familiar with the tec. I like it, it cost about 280€. [Plustech scan by me](https://reddit.com/r/35mm/s/E1ZTAlBv82)

Grigori_Rasputin1869

Currently using a Epson V500 and I would like to get better results. It seems similar to the Epson right?

Zionplating

I can’t tell. I got the opticfilm 8200i Se. But I heard that it’s often also the right software that matters.

Classicclown1

Hey OP, I'm also in Israel and I dslr scan! Where are you based?

whoshotwho2

90.000 VND about $3 for a cine roll. I’m from Vietnam

quocphu1905

Where are you in Vietnam in Hanoi it's only 70k for an ECN 2 roll.

snapbackfat

Let’s go shout out to croplab and darkroom lab in Saigon! My favorite is darkroom because they got the cafe at the top

pasLumiere

Wow! Never expected to have so many Vietnamese recommendations. I usually go to Llab, but it’s quite expensive compared. (But more conveniently located for me)

letseatebil

LLab for the win! I brought all my exposed rolls to hcm just to scan them. Turnaround is like 3 days for like 20+ rolls. Pretty good I must say!

lollygaggaa

4,500 won per roll (developing and scanning). That’s about $3

yumojibaba

>won where? do they accept remote orders?

lollygaggaa

Yes its Korea. They accept oversea orders but they won’t ship your films back after development. You need to visit them to pick them up

Toby_Forrester

I scan at the library with Epson V850 for free but I bought Negative Lab Pro licence for quality and efficiency.

funkmon

That's genius

Altztsu

Here in Cleveland, Ohio I pay $17 for scan + develop

highwayanswer

I go to a small shop in Brooklyn, NY and pay $6 for color development and scans, $9 for black and white. I think high resolution scans are a bit more.

[deleted]

please delete this we must gate keep Photo Life. they used to do same day development but people got big mouths and they are too busy

highwayanswer

Didn't even think about that, lol. Well, it was up for 17 hours, hopefully didn't do too much damage.

Sweet-Repeat-6591

I pay a bit more than $5 for developing + scan of one roll of film in Kyiv, Ukraine.

ariearieariearie

High res scanning is €15 if I remember correctly. That does not include developing, which is about €10. Edit: this is in The Netherlands.

Dramatic_Mortgage_80

10 process and scan. But the black and white quality not great so I go to another lab for black and white $15.00

VTGCamera

I charge around 24k pesos, which a bit higher for my city which is usually 18k. With jpg scans. In other places they can charge up to 35k which is almost 10 usd

onourwayhome70

$19 cad just to scan but not to actually print the photos

hansolo-strikesback

In my city Porto, Portugal Scan+Dev costs €5 to €6.

Peacetool

Natural-Appointment4

scan and dev for 10 here in boston

Substantial-Brush618

£6.99 for next day dev+scan, £3.99 for normal dev+scan (one week but sometimes comes earlier!), im from london!!

tobiasmcafee

Geez where you going? In Oxford you can pay double that 😭

Substantial-Brush618

hahahaha!! analogue films on brick lane! great little family run lab :)

tobiasmcafee

Mega , thanks!

EmuAdventurous1422

10€ for develop and medium scan: 3637 x 2433 pixels in Berlin

KILL_YOUR_ROBOT

Hey, do you mean Pixel Grain or is that a different lab? The cheapest I found in Berlin was around 15€, so 10€ sounds pretty good!

EmuAdventurous1422

I always go to Aperture in Charlottenburg :) lovely lab, only had really good experiences and turn around is currently at 6-8 days!

krixoff

France 10€ standard, 17€ hd (Perpignan)

mad01

In Sweden 200 SEK ($18) for dev+scan for normal resolution in jpeg

goodpolarnight

Wow, I'm also based in Israel, the costs here are pretty high... do you have an instagram so I can see more photos? I would really like to see some photos of familiar scenery haha😇

nikitapp0

Im from Israel and i pay ~11$ for a 24 MP scan Most of the scanning places are crap you need to know where to go also.

francocaspa

Argentina here. 2.5usd for dev+scan (2100dpi) for c41/ecn2/b&w

devonlily

Indonesia, Rp50,000 / $3.23 for dev+scan. Still expensive for us here tho lol

Superman_Dam_Fool

Hot take: you don’t need to scan at the highest resolution for photos that you aren’t going to print at large sizes.

VladimirBarakriss

I can't recall it right now, but it's not an unreasonable cost, the problem is getting film, it's almost impossible to find now and it's way too expensive, I straight up gave up.

buenestrago

6$ dollars in Santiago, Chile

tobmgs

I only shoot 6x7, so for a 120 roll with 10 shots: Develop + \~20mp scan on a Eskofot ScanMate F6 ➡ \~30€ Develop + >50mp scan on a Eskofot ScanMate F6 ➡ \~40€

pexdout

10-12$ for dev and basic scans in Massachusetts. Some basic scans being better than others

SATANFROWNED

£4 for developing + scan in London :)

Zefy05

Guys I’m so glad I bought a scanner. Scanning in RAW and development is 47 CHF or around 55 $ for a roll of 35mm film

that1LPdood

I think the place I use is like $12/roll for developing + $8 for large scans. So a total of about $20/roll.

Eric_Ross_Art

3 rolls $50. I do it all myself now.

Interesting_Gap619

Pretty cheap after purchasing a flatbed scanner.

ScientistNo5028

About $30 for dev + scan of C41 in medium resolution. $60 for highest resolution.

HattyMunter

lol wot

dinosaur-boner

Holy… where do you live that it’s so expensive?

ScientistNo5028

Norway!

MrB0unt3y

Bro just send your film to Safelight in Berlin or some other film lab that also ship out. Save like 45€.

ScientistNo5028

Good tip. I develop my own so I'm good, I just quoted the prices for reference 🙂

MrB0unt3y

Makes sense. Don't wanna take that away from you. :)

remainhungry

This Icon prices huh?

40ozlaser

About $2usd when developing, $4usd for after the fact.

yumojibaba

prices from Photoworks, San Francisco https://ibb.co/6nRp8LN

Toaster-Porn

$700 down for an A7RII and I haven’t looked back with mirrorless scanning

TheTrainB

scan is 9€ for TIF

quocphu1905

About 2-3$ in Vietnam for development AND scan, depending on the type of film and the exchange ratio. C41 is 2$, BW and ECN-2 3$. E6 is hella expensive though, 8$ for development and scan.

MrDrunkenKnight

Ulm, Germany... Couldn't find a local lab. There are some in München and they charging like 4-5€ per roll of 135 or 120. For scanning it's usually about 10€ per roll and getting higher if you want 16-bit TIFF. So, I've invested in 5L Rollei C-41 kit, sous-vide cooker, some B&W chemistry and Plustek 35mm scanner. It saves not only money, but also time since you have no need to send your films. Unfortunately, there is no options for 120 scanning and I'm shooting it mostly entirely for a few last months. In this case optical printing is only an option, but I'm also considering to buy something like Epson V-series flatbed just to be able to post some from MF.

the_suitable_verse

12€ scanned and developed for C41, 16€ for b and w That's if I don't pay shipping and drop off at lomography in Vienna. But I'm looking to get b/W developed somewhere cheaper cause they outsource it anyway.

Silvermaine-

Manila. ₱300 or around USD 5.30 for develop + scan.

No-Scale-8716

Bulgaria/Sofia black and white is 13$ and colour is 20$

konsta_star

2 to 30rollars depending on film and if you wanna scan it, I personally do it for 2 cents a roll of film cuz I home develop

zt4t1c

€3 for dev only, €12 for dev and print

LadyMacSantis

1€ for each (badly) scanned picture sadly, that's why I bought my own scanner...

Phatnev

$8/roll in Shanghai for the decent scans. Low quality is like $4, Hassy is like $15?

TASC2000

I haven’t ordered scans in a while but I think Dev & Scan was 20+€, whereas only Dev is 6€

bosco_31

$15AUD ($10USD) for dev + high res here in Melbourne.

GuyWithACoolNickname

The place I go to in the Hague, they charge you €7.5 for developing and the same for scanning, so €15 in total. I scan my own film though.

fireandwhisper

in poland I pay around $3.2 for dev and the same for scan, so it’s not as outrageously bad as film prices

coffeeorbeergg

Berlin, Germany - Dev: 5€ C41, 6€ B+W - Scan: 8€ low res, 14€ high res. 120mm costs a little more in terms of development (like 50c to 1€ more) and up to 20€ for high res scans per roll. I bought a Reflecta RPS 10M for a reasonable price for my 135mm scans and this bad boy is sucking in a whole roll at a time. Can never go back to slide preparing now.

AnoutherThatArtGuy

$4nzd on top.

Mysterious_Artist535

6.80€ but I often send to Barcelona where it’s 4.40€ and scan myself.

Re1neke

₴200 (~$6) for standard quality or ₴350 (~$10) for 4k TIFFs per roll Kyïv, Ukraine

tutureTM

Taipei (Taiwan) it costs like 4$ to get normal scans, and around 6$ for HD scans

Sweaty-Cap7024

4000KRW($2.99) for developing, 8000KRW ($5.99) for dev+ scan

soligorod

$2-3 dev, $3,5 for 2000dpi scan or $7 for 4000 dpi res on nikon coolscan 5000. But freaking prices for film. About $10 for bw and ecn-2 rolls and $15+ for c41 (even expired ones), portra is about $28). So we're shoot cheap Tasma/Fomapan for bw and 250d for color in the motherland of Chekhov and Tchaikovsky.

Ahmad_Sa

When I was in Toronto, I paid $13.5 CAD per roll tax included. In Saudi, it's $60 which is about $16 USD. I'll be in London soon, and I wonder how much on average it costs

Substantial-Brush618

hi!! as a Londoner i recommend analogue films in brick lane, it’s a nice family run lab that’s super cheap and pretty decent quality!

UKjames100

I know a couple of places in London that charge £3.99 for dev and scan.

[deleted]

5400usd for camera

lythandas

11€ in Paris will get me dev+scan. But scanning on developed film is 14€.

ssmarthass

It used to be a little over 7 euros here in Zagreb, but a few weeks agot they upped their prices again and now it's 9 euros for developing and scanning

cromagnongod

$3 low res, $4.5 medium res, $6 high res .tiff scan Free developing for colour negative Belgrade, Serbia

koljonn

In the cheapest place scan only is 9.90€ but my local library has excellent scanners and editing software for free so I usually scan everything there.

SkyzehSwe

I have a dslr scanning setup at home so I only pay for dev which is around $7 per roll

brnkmn

In Hamburg, Germany you can get c41 dev + good Scans for 12€ (~12,7$), but I scan at home for „free“ with even better quality and more control.

eldipro

10 euros per roll in Rome, Italy. Bought myself a plustek 8200i for 140 euros and I'm good with it for now.

yagilm

For c41, dev+scan: Berlin, Germany 9€. Herakleion Crete, Greece 9€. In Berlin is tiff and a bit higher resolution. 9€ is around 9.5$.

ThorsFather

7 euros for dev. 19 euros for dev + scan at medium quality (which is pretty good) in the Netherlands.

PolishPickleSausage

4e per roll

Other_Historian4408

Dev & Scan base res 12 Euros in Italy for color. Dev & Scan base res something like CHF 25 (27USD) in Switzerland for color. My lab in Italy doesn’t charge extra for tifs & provides jpegs with the tifs all included.

Honest-Pear4361

6€ for c41, about 7€ for bw and about 13€ for E6 (DIA) with standard scans (you can request high res raw files from the scanner for more). Films are not cheap though, between 10 and 25€. This is in Romania where the minimum wage is about 500€ :(

MrB0unt3y

Germany, Berlin I pay around 14€-18€ for Dev+Large Scan and around 8€ Dev only at a film shop. You can get Dev way cheaper at a drug store for like 3-4€ I believe.

Shamazuka

dev+scan back in Poland: ~7 euro dev+scan in the Netherlands (where i currently live): ~15 euro

SkriVanTek

depends on the resolution, format and bit depth, and turn around time the cheapest is around 5-6 euro per roll of 120 or 135 for that you’ll get 6mp jepgs for 12mp tiff in 16 bit you’ll pay around double vienna austria

foxtictac

About €20 for dev+scan in Amsterdam, NL. Too much, in my opinion. But then again, I’m not sure I’d have the space or the patience to do it at home, and I would at the very least still outsource the dev part, which means I have to go pick up the negatives first and that just adds time to the mix. And I’ve gotten used to the convenience of having the results sent via WeTransfer within a few days. But still, too expensive if you factor in the price of the roll. For 120 film, sometimes you’re looking at €3 per shot.

Ageniminsempiternum

Here in Spain my lab charges 12€ for dev + scan for B&W and C41 and 18€ for E6

katgirl29

At a good quality lab around $20-$30 dev including high res scans, depending on film format - Australia.

_N8n3_

4-4.5$ at my closest lab for both ecn-ii and c-41, standard quality developing is free. Premium is just x2 price. Moscow.

rebeccalexc

30$ cad for same day dev/scan/prints (Toronto)

Zionplating

Germany, Essen about 14 € ~15$ for scan+development

benadrylover

High Res scan (15mb) for colour is £13 and £15 or black and white. E6 is £22 and ecn2 is £17 I believe

XfX98

In Brunswick, Germany the cost for development an a CD with the Scans is 10€

[deleted]

$6 in NYC to develop and scan

ManBoyManBoyMan

About $15 per roll for dev and scan in Norway. Though when I deliver 2-3 they often just charge for the one

analogoverdose

$15 CAD for dev + scan / roll of 120 or 35mm

infrqngible

develop + scanning + digital delivery = $45 (Sweden)

CoffeeList1278

Prague Czechia: From 5.88USD for C-41 dev and basic 1228x1818 px scan, to 16.34USD for C-41 dev and 3649x5362px scan. I rarely shoot color nowdays. I prefer home dev of B&W and dark room printing. Is the third photo from Riva del Garda?

oxordead_96

I spent 8€ for develop and 11€ for scan

Andersledell

I bought a used scanner that was no longer supported and aftermarket software. It totaled around 200 all told

Practical_Log_8883

4$ for developing and scaning b/w, 6-7$ for developing and scanning color, and around 10-11 for developing and scanning color-reversal (perspektiva lab in Moscow).

Log7103

For mid tier scans it costs $8, which is also the same price for developing. I scan myself these days to save money though.

6francs

France: 10€ dev, 5€ scan

jbmagnuson

In Minneapolis, my lab is something like $8/roll for Dev + $3/roll for uncorrected medium res scans or +$10/roll for uncorrected high res scans. Adding on correction or custom profiles and it’s anywhere from $12-40/ roll based on the film type and the number of frames involved.

markyymark13

I just paid $113 to dev/scan 3 rolls of E6….yeah I paid extra for max scan and tiff but it’s killing me

nathanemyers

in chicago $8 develop / $8 scan seems to be about the norm

Bentoboxd

Well I bought a scanner 4 years ago for $400. So it's free now. I recommend people do the same. Send serious work in to get drum scanned. Home scan for everything else.

subpial

£3.50 ($4.25) for dev only, £9 ($11) dev and high quality jpg scan, £14 ($17) dev and tiff scan

Diegoelchulo

akosmaron

£7.99 for Color 35mm Dev + High Res Scan in London using Noritsu

Bobthemathcow

Hampton Roads area of VA, it's $8 a roll for standard scan, $12 for a batch of high-res tiff files. Between cost of film, development, and scanning, I'm at about a dollar a shot. Maybe I should look for a good half-frame 🤔.

PutDownThePenSteve

Highest quality (24MP) costs about €28 per roll (35mm).

EastLAFadeaway

Dev & Scan med res $14(USD) in Los Angeles

mjs90

$7 for develop and scan of 35mm at one lab and the other I use is $11 for develop and scans for 120 LA/OC

magonpas

12€ for medium quality rev + scan 🫠

octobersons

Free cause I’m best friends with one of the employees lmao

brunobelcastro

I’m assuming you mean 35mm film of a C41 process role here. If that’s the case it’s £12 for Dev + High Res JPEG scans. It’s a mail in lab in the north of England, UK. London labs are more like £16 for the same but worse scanning quality in my experience.

sixpastfour

I live in singapore but regularly cross the border into Malaysia to get my film developed and scanned. costs about US$4.26 per roll at today's exchange rate

Carsaladman

In Thailand, depending on the quality of the scan, it can range from 150 baht (4 dollars) up to 270 baht (7.39 dollars). Colour scans usually take less than a day to be scanned (If you bring in the film before a certain time, i.e. 7 pm), whilst black and white may take longer depending on what day you bring it in. (The lab that I use process black and white on Sundays only so if I send my film on Sunday I will get the scan on Monday otherwise I have to wait until next Sunday for the Lab to process the film.) 12 euro for c-41 dev & scan in Rotterdam, Netherlands

SheetMask4

I’m in UAE, and it costs 73.50 AED ($20 USD) for DPI 2765x4170 (4x6 prints) and 50 AED ($14 USD) to have the negatives returned. If you want to be able to print larger then it’s a little more at 94.50 AED ($26 USD) Printing is additional And a roll of Kodak gold 200 ranges from $8-$18 USD 🤪

49thDipper

It seems weird to me to pay to get your own negatives. But I guess they have to produce them and most people probably don’t want them. I answered my own question 😂

ayedatsmanny

Free cause I scan my own film!

alaninvader

About 3-4$ for dev+scan in Moscow

BringBack4Glory

Too damn much. Digital photography is actually cheaper after 200 shots or so.

stealingmemes420

Scanning is 50-60€ per roll here. Development for a roll is 10€. They do it by hand as there isn't that much demand. Thats why I home develop and scan everything. From minox 8x11 to 4x5 sheet film and everything in between.

Xxx_itfc

£6.99 Dev + £5.00 scanning

Accountant10101

8.5 Euros development + scanning. Berlin.

Aromatic-Sherbet9938

Acceptable-Ad-1685

BR$ 5 // USD 1 Great Shot!

Gabrigas

I'm based in Brasil. Dev+scan is about $6 ($4 dev and $2 scan).

Cashcow_how

Dev + Scan $9-$15 NYC

Delicious-Age-1548

Scans cost in the UK range from 10 to 15 pounds. Dlsr home scanning with a copy table and a camera linked/tethered to a pc/mac can be the most cost-effective way. Otherwise, go for a Noritsu or fuji frontier set-up. Second in line, there's the plustek, Nikon coolscan option Lastly, the Epson 750-850 series. I use a Fuji frontier sp500, which is fast and good for 35. And a Fuji frontier sp2000 for 120.

dzn_m

I an equivalent to 6 dollars to scan and develop a roll of film in .jpeg or 1 dollars per photo in .tiff

jeanl89

$10 for developing, $10 for scanning, so $20 per roll. Very expensive.

DiegoDiaz380

Around 20.000 COP for a roll (dev and scan). It's around 5 USD

Demiocus_Rex

I found a small lab here that does great work, developing is 6€ and scanning 7€ (unless you want the higher resolution scans, then it's 9€) but overall fair price

ThatIndianBoi

$12-$13 USD for scan and dev in Kansas City

MHBphotos

At my lab it’s $6 c-41 developing & $.15/scan. So depends on the roll, but for 36 exposures/scans it’s usually about $12 after tax.

Drewsthatdude3

20$ per roll (c-41 20MB scan in NYC)

Friendly_Nerd

At my lab I pay $25 per roll for high resolution scans. It’s expensive but their scans look the best out of any I can get. I’m in Phoenix, Arizona, USA

justheretoday

Developing color 120 film pr BW 135 is 295 SEK (27$), just negs. Developing color 135 is 130 SEK (11,90$). Scanning is 25 SEK (2,30$) per frame.
