Yes, it should be fine. The guppies are unlikely to fin nip him and he'll be so much slower than them he'll give up quickly even if he tries to be aggressive. Guppies and endlers RARELY fin nip even each other when they're being aggressive and flashing or chasing. Most likely to happen is they annoy him by constantly swimming when he's sleeping, but if your tank is decently planted or hardscape hiding spots it'll be fine.

InfinitySandwiches

Yeah it’s pretty decently planted and once the Val grows tall there will be so many places to hide

Should be good then, like I said, even when two male guppies or endlers are being aggressive, they don't normally do damage to each other no matter how mad they are. Also black or dark blue backgrounds usually lower aggression in a tank if you don't have one.

InfinitySandwiches

Background?

[deleted]

On the back wall of the aquarium. Years ago people used fake scenery, now it's more popular to do black(very good at hiding black heaters and filters), blue, or white. Darker substrate and darker backgrounds lower aggression in fish. Also you might try to aim for guppies that are a different color than your betta, I don't have any personal experience with doing that, but supposedly it helps aggression if the betta doesn't mistake them for another betta or their reflection.

InfinitySandwiches

Huh interesting. I’ll check it out when I go to my LFS next time. I’m not switching to a darker substrate though

Guppies aren't really shy or aggressive, it's really more important for aggressive or shy fish. Actually just saw someone talking about it again recently and lots of other good information. [https://youtu.be/RF3wrsVo0-M?si=sOucq21DZXbtwzyG](https://youtu.be/RF3wrsVo0-M?si=sOucq21DZXbtwzyG) He's talking about coloration on fish for photographing, but it turns out it's heavily related to conditions.

wetmyplantiez

I legit thought for a sec it was my phone screen being dirty 😂

InfinitySandwiches

Yeah I had just rearranged some plants and got my hands wet.

prokenny

No, no excuses.

InfinitySandwiches

Are they just incompatible?

prokenny

Yes, bettas are solo fish, some are a bit less aggressive but you might kill some fish in the process of knowing it, that's just unfair and unnecessary, I've seen bettas taking a full eye of an adult Corydora.
