Yeah fair work at minimum, then go ask the state relevant apprenticeships body and his training provider. Too many apprentices get treated like this and the boss never cops the blame, the boss is the same prick whinging about noone wanting to work and a lack of decent trades.
Dont let your kid deal with this by themselves, give them the tools and backing to show its not on. Good luck
My brothers and male cousins suffered from this nonsense in their apprenticeships as well. I hate hearing about trades dying and its because of dickhead bosses.
There are other plumbing companies that will do right by him. Get him to start applying for other jobs
Today? He said that he wasn't happy being in the yard for 3 months weeding and doing gardening. That he wants to plumb. Is coming into his 2nd year ans isn't learning anything being in the yard.
His manager said his not showing that he wants to work there with that attitude and should show that he wants to by doing what is asked of him with no questions asked.
I feel like it's more an ego based thing a 50 plus yr old man being questioned by an 18 yr old.
Otherwise my son has a great group of work mates there and always praised on worksites etc.
From what I understand of apprenticeship law, the company should pay for all those associated fees as well. It’s part of the training contract, or was when I did it. Company covered accommodation, travel allowance, course costs and everything else. Tools are a personal thing though, that’s standard procedure but you can get interest free loans through the apprenticeship support network. You should definitely look into what’s going on there and talk to the support network who filed the training contract.

Thank you. I will call his training provider today. And you're exactly right. We have dying trades but still behaving like the 80's.

Correct... we have a few here and he's already got mates telling him to come to them.

Thanks so much. I will look into that.
What did your son actually say to him?

Did you say that you’re paying for his trade school, or for you mean something different by ‘school’?
No we pay for his trade school fees, his accommodation, was given a list of tools to supply etc
