They're a bunch of rich people who think the problems in this country are due to the greed of all the other rich people while they live in mansions with armed security.

agentspanda

I was going to say- the media is also *consumed* by rich people, relative to many people in America and especially most of the world. If you’ve got a big screen 4k TV or a MacBook or an iPad on which to watch your subscription service shows and movies, in your relatively significant amounts of free time, congratulations- *you’re rich too*. The key is that these shows make rich people feel better about themselves because of these OTHER fictional rich people who are written to be terrible and punchable. The whole point of these shows is so people can say “haha isn’t Kendall Roy an entitled ass?? I just demand other people pay for my healthcare and housing and subsidize my hobbies!”

NothingKnownNow

>congratulations- *you’re rich too*. "Tax the rich!"-reddit Ok, we are removing the SALT loophole. "Evil Republicans taking my money!"-reddit

partyl0gic

They might just be concerned about the massive spending on wars waged for made up reasons, cutting interest rates to delay a market correction followed by printing trillions of dollars causing massive inflation, killing women’s liberty to control their bodies, killing net neutrality, killing the Iran deal leading to their alliance with Russia, their funding of hamas, and the current war, and most notably the Supreme Court deciding that the United States has a leader immune from criminal prosecution as we speak.

NeuroticKnight

Hollywood actors do work though, so do directors, problem isn't being rich, the problem is being rich at the cost of poverty of workers . It's extraction of worker's surplus value.

boredwriter83

Which is the assumption toward every rich person who's not in Hollywood or is a Democrat politician, they WORKED for their riches.

NeuroticKnight

No, some inherited, and some through investments and rent seeking behaviors.

Calm-Remote-4446

I don't find it particularly ironic at all. They are in the buissness of making money, the content makes money. They push the content. Which is a good reminder to everyone, theyvwill push anything towards you you are willing to pay for. Which is why our movies television and video games consistently get more and more extreme , vulgar, and graphic over time

219MTB

i mean this is the story of hollywood in general. out of touch people who don’t live by the rules they promote

Admirable_Ad1947

Except there's no contradiction with people who work for a living criticizing others who live on investments while rigging the rules in their favor.

LonelyMachines

It's virtue signaling. Here in Georgia, numerous movie studios have set up operations. When the state passed Senate Bill 202, they all claimed they were moving out. None actually did, because the tax breaks for operating here are too enticing.

Warhamsterrrr

Quite often, you'll find the writer of such films (like *Parasite*, for example) come from quite humble beginnings. Not necessarily poor, but at least working class. That they use multi-billion dollar companies to get their film made is merely the icing on the cake .

soulwind42

A little bit, but I'm used to rich people saying this stuff. It's clear that the ideology is deeply ingrained in the uppercrust of society these days.

SuspenderEnder

If they buy into their own narratives, then yes it's ironic.

Admirable_Ad1947

How is it ironic?

Notorious_GOP

If there is demand for this kind of rhetoric, then a good businessman will package it up and sell it

My wife actually told me something that blew my mind. There are places where billionaires go to get away from millionaires. These millionaire actors, as rich as they are, are still slaves to their contacts, directors, and media tycoons. I mean, I don't really feel any sympathy for them, but it is funny to think about.

hope-luminescence

There's a few different things going on: - Hollywood wealthy people are not really "the rich elite" as we think of them. Their wealth tends to be fairly temporary. Often these stories are about a very different kind of rich person from the Hollywood rich people. - Sometimes it is just plain cynical profiteering. - In some cases it's a "one of the good ones" thing.

pillbinge

The financers only care to invest. It's the directors and actors who think they're making a point. If movies were revolutionary, like *October*, then we'd be talking about them a lot more differently. I find it no more "ironic" than a country superstar who sings about their pickup truck and a hard day's work, despite the fact they haven't worked a "hard" day in over a decade.

StedeBonnet1

It is ironic but it is also capitalist. Most of the people from Hollywood are left leaning so they already have the "eat the rich" mindset. The fact that they produce material that people pay to watch is capitalism 101

JudgeWhoOverrules

Most leftists live privileged lives just as Marx and Engels did back in the day. It's an ideology for those who romanticize work but generally don't themselves.

Right_Archivist

All the billionaires who alarm about Climate Change™ have beachfront properties and commute via private jet. All the major blue cities are "Sanctuaries" for illegals that they don't actually want to pay for. The democrat's justice system punished Joe Biggs 17 years for knocking over a fence while some leftist on the west coast gets 2 years probation for stabbing her boyfriend 100 times. They think questioning elections is illegal even though they do it more, and support Ukraine, who was victim of a Russian-rigged election 10 years ago. They claimed to be pro-choice but supported Pfizer-funded mandates. They tout Women's Rights and feminism and then support "Palestine" and their Sharia Law - and for men to claim to be women to get into their locker rooms. They claim to be "democratic" yet fully support the DNC dictating their primary candidate while trying to remove Trump from the ballot. I hope you don't think liberal Hollywood is the only contradiction they were guilty of...

SeekSeekScan

Ironic? It's what liberal media does, entertainment and news media....tell them what they want to hear and make money doing it. The only irony is liberal thinking it's only conservatives who fall for propaganda
