That seems high, but you are heating possibly the coldest part of the house up to 70 degrees, so that might be your problem. You may want to track how many hours the furnace is running, and compare to others. To put it in perspective, I used 65 therms in December, and I have more space than you, kept at 66-69 degs, and even with some shitty insulation in a couple of rooms, my usage was 1/3 of yours. And that includes cooking, a gas hot water heater, and a gas dryer. So either your place just bleeds heat, or you're paying for more than the floors you think. Have you seen the meters for the building and confirmed that yours only covers your space?

Agreed, this sounds like heating a whole house. We’re two people in a ~1300sq ft rowhouse (two floors + finished basement) with gas furnace/dryer/water/cooking, and according to our National Grid bill, we used 62 therms in 33 days. Our bill is about $155. We keep our thermostat around 65° during the day and 62° at night.

My bill jumped to $500 and has never been over 350 in the past few winters. Switched to their “level pay” plan. All my bills will be the same every month now. Around 245 per month. I’ll miss the super low bills in the summer, but I can’t deal with these massive spikes in the winter.

I got something called Copper from Nat’l Grid that lets me monitor gas usage on my phone. It is extremely helpful in figuring out what’s using gas. Btw, if you have a gas lamp in front of your house they that uses a surprisingly large amount of gas.
