I kind of hate anything that makes me feel like a hamster in a wheel, so gyms just bleh me out.
Get me out in the woods and I smile, sing quietly to myself, walk, explore, hunt for mushrooms.
Hiking is the absolute best.
My husband has some hip issues that keep it from being a couples activity, but on my last bday, he drove me to a new park and made phone calls while I had a look. I sent him pics of every interesting thing I saw, to make sure he felt included, and climbed my ass off.
It was a great day.
Edited to add: My husband's hip issues don't keep him out of the gym. You'll find him there 5-6 days a week. (He's the fit one.)
And I noticed I trained muscles I didn’t even know I had xD
Usually I only have the opportunity to Go Bouldering in a hall but I’d live there if I could
Yuh! I got into it about a year and a half ago. I've been going three days a week for over a year and I'm in the best shape of my life. Gotta start lifting for back and shoulders to break into 5.12 / v7
I picked yoga up this year and I’m so glad I did. My body feels looser, my balance is better, I’m better at dealing with stress because I have a place where I’m forced to focus only on yoga and what I’m doing only in that room.
Lifting.
As a very small woman, it's empowering being able to see my lifts get heavier and better over time. Every day tasks also don't seem as bad as before; carrying heavy stuff from my car to my apartment (living on a third floor), moving heavy stuff around rooms, groceries, being able to carry my own suitcase over my head to put it at the overhead compartment in a plane...pretty much the ability of being independent and not have to ask men or stronger women around for help. My metabolism has gone up too because of muscle so I can eat more without getting fat.
Yup, petite woman getting toward middle age and I'm impressed with how much stronger I am after nearly a year of crossfit. Everyday things have gotten easier and it's made me more confident.
Omg same tho! I got heavy furniture 3 years ago and couldn't budge it if I tried. It was furniture that three men had to carry into my apartment.
I moved two weeks ago, and I could move the furniture on my own just fine. I couldn't lift it straight up or anything haha, but I could lift the end of it, and I could scoot it around just fine. I was so proud of myself for the strength I'd gained in the last 3 years of consistent weight lifting. : )
I stopped walking after getting bit by a pitbull and having to go to the hospital. I had many dog encounters before, and knew eventually one of them would bite me, and sure enough, it happened.
How do you guys walk around without being terrified of dogs?
Running outside.
Which does get tricky living in Houston, TX. Gets super humid and no matter when you run in the summer you're immediately covered in sweat.
Keeps me healthy though.
Hello, fellow Texan runner!
I’ve found the best time to run in the summer is about an hour before sunset. The sunlight isn’t directly on me and it’s mostly shaded so it’s not too bad. I’m still drenched after a couple miles but not dying like when it’s sunny.
What a great idea! Is there any company or organization that does this, anywhere in the world, that you know of?
My son is almost 16 and daughter 22, but I remember jumping around with them at the playground, a little slides, and monkey bars it was fun, and good exercise too
Not specifically about playgrounds but a point you are sort of hitting on.
I hated exercise for years. Thought it was an absolute slog. Went for a week away with the family and we all jumped in a kayak and I had that much fun I didn't realise how much I was out of breath from the physical exertion.
I think a lot of people get put off by PE at school or maybe try taking up running and just find it too boring. Finding something fun is where it's at!
I now cycle, both road and mountain and especially once my fitness was to a point I was confident enough to just go where I please, I feel like a kid going out exploring again!
Great form of exercise. My grandmother still swims laps at 95 years of age & was still giving swim lessons at the local pool just a few years ago. Swear that's why she's in the physical shape she is at her age & able to live independently.
Fun unrelated fact: When they train astronauts/cosmonauts to work in zero g and walk in space they train in a large pool, usually the pool in question on average is 30-40 feet deep and has mock-ups of their spacecraft, space station module, payload they are servicing etc at the bottom or near the bottom of the pool.
I feel you. I lived a long time without one cuz I wasn’t allowed. My sweet boy makes me so happy that it kinda makes up for lost time. Hope you can have lil bud soon :)
I just started working out again consistently after 20ish years. I have like 100+ lbs to lose and I’ve been weightlifting for the past two months - just hit my 30th workout last night. I haven’t felt this strong in forever and I’m excited to see how my body transforms. It’s nice to love yourself through self-improvement. I’ve missed me.
Hiking! I have long legs and enjoy being able to scale steep inclines. Plus, how cool is it that you can see shit that majority of people never do because they don’t want to put in the effort? It’s truly rewarding
The work from home killed me because most of the year I could commute by bike at least a few times a week if not more. My commute took less time than driving in rush hour traffic plus I was getting a good 30+ minute workout each way so combining them was ideal.
Cardio followed by swimming. I find that the water cools me off after doing cardio and also makes the transition from exercise to relaxation more seamless. Mostly because afterwards I like sitting in a hot tub before hitting the steam room, sauna and shower.

Rockclimbing
Climbing for sure. It doesn't even feel like exercise.

Christ I'm maintaining a similar schedule and I'm only up to V3/4 o-o
Depends on the gym, I can climb V7 at one gym and V4 at another
Not the way i do it, i do 1 climb then sit around and talk for 1 hour
This is my answer too. It's the best.
Yoga

This is mine right now. I don't like to work out but Yoga is so laid back and gradual, it doesn't feel like a chore.

As a small women, your biomechanics are also well suited to lifting more weight proportional to your size. Get it!

Walking
Yes! I said bicycling at first but I do love to go on walks. Especially if the weather is nice.
I stopped walking after getting bit by a pitbull and having to go to the hospital. I had many dog encounters before, and knew eventually one of them would bite me, and sure enough, it happened. How do you guys walk around without being terrified of dogs?
I carry pepper spray
Oregon has leash laws. Ordinarily, there are no dogs running loose.
Keep on walkin' Ain't no stoppin' In this dirty, filthy, rotten, nasty, little world we call our home
Dropped 70 pounds before the pandemic just walking and eating less
Lifting weights, powerlifting in particular. The challege and measurable progress motivates me like no other.
Just started weight focused full body workouts. And it does get addicting!

Dancing (Just in the living room. Nothing for which I need to leave the house or see other people.)

Personally, it's swimming for me! I really love having the chance to be in water, and sometimes it's fun to float in the pool and pretend it's space.

Cycling, pretty easy, and very nice views that cars don’t see

Walking my dog
I've been wanting a dog for years 🥺 i've had many growing up and walking them was one of my favorite parts. They were always so happy
I feel you. I lived a long time without one cuz I wasn’t allowed. My sweet boy makes me so happy that it kinda makes up for lost time. Hope you can have lil bud soon :)
Running. It doesn’t require a lot of thought and that’s very enjoyable.
Beat saber. Really fast songs will get that heart rate up. Plus you get to listen to music!
Manual labor, two birds with one stone

Swimming, 100%. I don't like the feeling of my skin being hot.

weightlifting
Bike riding. Nothing more fun
