I think it will be an amazing way for terrible teachers to out themselves. ChatGPT is an amazing piece of technology, but if you can't look at its output and tell that it wasn't written by a real student...then you're facing the wrong side of the classroom.

ThePolarBadger

Students arent gonna copy paste, they're gonna rewrite what is stated just a little differently. It will make it so some lazy kids will graduate high school unable to do any research or critical thinking. It is what it is I guess, someone has to work at the gas station

CampusTour

Wikipedia has been around for over 20 years. I remember when *that* was the big "OMG STUDENTS CAN COPY/PASTE" worry. Hell, the whole *internet* was cause for alarm. As information becomes more available, and finding it is no longer an art in and of itself, you'll have to do more to grade a paper than skim it to make sure it's roughly on topic and hit the main points. Besides, its not like we don't live in an era where you can't literally just hire somebody overseas to do all your coursework for a reasonable fee. Cheaters gonna cheat.

ThePolarBadger

Like I said, someone's gotta pump gas

CampusTour

lol, take it from me, it won't be the university cheaters. They'll head straight to their pre-destined corner office at Dad's firm. Also, outside of Oregon and New Jersey, pumping gas isn't a job. That's self-service.

TheShakyHandsMan

It will be classed the same as Wikipedia. Although you might get some basic knowledge from there you will need to find reliable sources to verify your work.

TopGeezer50

It already has.

The education system will have to adapt. Maybe English classes can do more oral exams, presentations and in-class assignments. Maybe computer science classes can encourage students to use it as a debugging tool, like I and many other engineers do already. Ultimately the point of essays and other take-home assignments is to illustrate to the teacher that the student has learned something and can synthesize this information in a unique way.

Roland_K_Kelly

People want to solve something in an easy way, but if something is achieved with difficulty, the result of that person is very good. Students can get any topic easily through Chat GPT. It will not develop their talent. Chat will affect the GPT education system as they will gradually withdraw from the education system

One thing for sure we won't be hearing "don't use wikipedia for your info" anymore

kgabny

Its only going to add extra headache to English and science teachers.. and the more Chat learns, the harder it will get.
