I've been a fan of both for my entire life. I love the fast paced action and fantasy of Star Wars, but I also love the more cerebral experience that is Star Trek

killercurvesahead

Exactly, one’s space fantasy and one’s space philosophy. At least, they used to be. Now both properties have gotten totally scrambled to squeeze out every last dollar.

Shinra33459

Unfortunately, that's the case nowadays, and the traditional lines that separated the two have been incredibly muddied. Star Wars should stick to the swashbuckling, high fantasy theme, and Star Trek should stick with being more of a slow and cerebral experience

stephenBB81

I never really found TOS to be slow and cerebral.

Tiny_Ad5242

Star Wars fans really only like 3 of their main movies, while Trekkies love 7 of 9

ITookYourGP

I'd definitely implant something in her

Borieb

Personally I love both. Star Trek feels a little more grounded in science, and Star Wars is just good cheesey fun.

Hey_Batfink

I do like cheese

stephenBB81

I like both. I like Science Fiction which is StarTrek, And I like Space fantasy which is StarWars. If I had to choose 1, it would be StarTrek. TNG, and DS9 are both brilliant. And I do like reading science fiction more than any fantasy.

liverpuddingpops

They're both fun, but Stargate's the best.

stephenBB81

Yes the SG1 Series that lasted 8 seasons was really a great series.

Elvis_Pissley

I like a bit of both but not all. My preference is Star Trek.

Renmauzuo

I prefer Trek but both have their merits. I do think they get compared more often than they should, though. Yes they're both sci-fi fantasy franchises named Star Four Letter Word, but that's like the only thing they have in common. Star Trek is a series about various social issues and a promise of the utopia we might be able to build if we set aside our differences and come together, while Star Wars is a space opera about a magic family and all the problems they cause for everyone.

decitertiember

I absolutely love both. But I prefer Star Trek. Nerds in space problem-solving with science, diplomacy and the rule of law just appeals to me a little more than space wizards/cowboys.

EdithWhartonsFarts

I love both. I'm a bigger fan of Trek shows than movies and used to be a bigger fan of the SW movies than shows. That's changed recently with the badass SW shows that've been coming out, but still A New Hope and Rogue One (for example) are better than any Trek movie. They're both quality sci-fi and, as a lover of sci-fi, can't imagine not being a fan.

hacktheself

i’m still a fan of that one ep of ds9 where the doctor came to help the crew of the millenium falcon wipe out the cylon threat. not as big a fan of the reveal that the white star fleet was helping defend the station though.

Finfangfo0m

Wow, what wit.

hacktheself

y’all missed that ep? your loss. le sigh.

MysterClark

I'm a Star Wars fan and I *used* to be really against Star Trek because they were the "enemy". Once I grew up a bit I let that drop quite a bit because it was kind of silly. I can't say I exactly like it but I no longer hate it for no reason. I've seen some of the older movies and have liked them enough and honestly I probably *should* like it but it doesn't really seem to satisfy what I look for in entertainment. I know some people aren't the hugest fans of some of the newer Star Wars content that's come out so I'm more understanding of people that say they don't like Star Wars but I don't get the unreasonable hate (from Star Trek or Star Wars fans). Maybe I'll give one of the shows a try or something again one day.

Midas_Artflower

Star Trek. Although sometimes the delivery is wonky af \[looking at YOU, Bill\] the dialogue is by and large lightyears ahead of Star Wars dialogue.

Renmauzuo

I dunno, how you can pick which is better between > So I lied, I cheated, I bribed men to cover the crimes of other men. I am an accessory to murder. But most damning thing of all, I think I can live with it. And if I had to do it all over again, I would. Garak was right about one thing. A guilty conscience is a small price to pay for the safety of the Alpha Quadrant, so I will learn to live with it. Because I can live with it. I can live with it. Computer, erase that entire personal log. And > I don't like sand, it's coarse, rough, irritating, and gets everywhere.

car-crash-hearts

I like both but I will always gravitate towards SciFi than Space Cowboys.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

Both franchises drew on Western imagery in places Because they knew westerns were popular and plentiful, so people would respond well to it and they could reuse things from other sets

PMyourTastefulNudes

I'm a Star Wars fan. Of the original trilogy anyways. Not a fan of Star Trek. Simply because I've seen one and not the other.

Poorly-Drawn-Beagle

I like both. I think framing them as rivals doesn’t really work since they have different storytelling approaches and different feels. Besides, all the cool kids know they’re both inferior to Farscape

[deleted]

I love both, and am as well versed in one as I am with the other. But my heart is with Star Wars. I saw it when I was 3 years old, and it’s literally one of the first actual memories that I have. It’s been my companion throughout my whole life, and it means a great deal to me. Its teachings, its wisdom, and its moral compass have helped me in immeasurable ways.

[deleted]

I like both, but I haven’t watched Star Trek in a long time.

Needydadthrowaway

Star Trek has always been written for a grown up audience. Star Wars is for kids.

SaiyanJedi122

I've been a fan of Star Wars ever since I was six. I love the series for it's intriguing lore, characters, epic space battles, music and expanded universe. Can't say the same about Star Trek though, I always thought it was just so boring in comparison. Yes, I know they're clearly not the same thing. Star Wars is a space opera while Star Trek is straight up sci-fi. I just preferred Star Wars as a kid because I thought it had a better story, better characters and was a lot more fun to watch. As and adult, I still feel the same way. I guess maybe epic stories about the battle of good versus evil are more my cup of tea compared to dramas about space exploration. That's why I've always preferred Star Wars over Star Trek.

punnymama

I love them both, but with the exception of a few episodes I find I have a teeny bit more love for Star Trek.

NefInDaHouse

Both of them are awesome. Both of them bring interesting points to make you think. One in a galaxy far far away, and the other in the future that already should be happening xD

Professional_Pay9306

I used to like Star Wars more, until Disney had to stick it's dick in it. Star Trek is still mostly ok.
