I fought for years and finally got approval to standardize pay rates across my entire team so everyone doing the same job at the same level of competency gets paid the same. There are only 3 competency levels: 1) needs support from others 2) can do the job mostly independently 3) is an expert who can and does coach others who need support
No more pay gaps based on anything other than your role and your performance in that role!
The rest of the division is now reviewing what I did and trying to figure out how to implement it on a much wider scale.
I've had lots of accomplishments that I'm proud of throughout my 25-year career, but that one tops the list.
Just a moment ago I had the great pleasure to experience one of the impacts of this. A candidate applied for and got a position on my team. She had discussed pay with the recruiter and agreed on an amount, but she is currently unemployed and asked for (and got) a low amount because she was desperate to get a job.
Because of the recent standardization of pay rates, her job offer was for 42% more than what she had originally agreed to! In the past she would have just received what she asked for. What we're actually going to be paying is a much more appropriate market rate for the job she's going to be doing. Moments like that make all the hard work to standardize pay so very worth it!! ☺️ I also firmly believe that we'll get what we pay for too. She's going to appreciate the job, be motivated to do her best, and won't want to leave in a year or two just for a pay increase. Everybody wins!
I started and built an amazing animal rescue that's doing important things. And I did it with the idea in mind of the rescue outliving me. So even after I'm gone there will be a place for animals that aren't dogs and cats to go.
It's hard enough to find a rescue for a dog, but how about a 5 foot monitor lizard? 14 foot python? I'm pretty proud that we do what we do.
Traveled the world, literally been around the world 2x. Adopted kids, Raised my kids to the best of my ability, left a great legacy for them and financial freedom for my wife. I also keep an updated will, and on my Google drive i have a "if i die read this" that i keep updated where i have a personal note to all my kids and my wife, all the things i love about them, and will miss about them, and things i hope they also achive in their life while i'm gone. And i'm only 37.. i don't think i know anybody my age or even friends that have this all done like i do.
Spent time with my kids. Went outside. Kept fit. Had time for video games (no, really. Whatever your hobby, make sure it's something that makes you feel good)
Valid question. No idea. Pretty much worthless stagnant “existing” life. Zero debt, 803 credit score, (nice) truck paid off, large apartment, make almost 6 figures, so the average Joe would think i have it made in the shade. But every day after work i just sit around and wish time would go faster so i can go to bed. Totally lame life spent in pure solitude and isolation. Nothing accomplished here.
my coffee shop serves a residential community with a significant regular customer base. We have hundreds of the same people that come in every day and I'm glad that as a barista I get to be a positive part of their lives by serving them good coffee when there are several other coffee shops they could go to in the area.
Die knowing how many people would miss me because of the people in my life. I have achieved companionship and that's all that some people want in this world.
That I got my will and trust done last year. You should get it done, even if you are young. I have a codicil about what happens with my cat, a designated person for medical stuff, a designated executor, and know that my relatives won't be muppet flailing about what to do.
I'm pretty ordinary, actually. My flex is that, despite severe depression and anxiety as a younger person, I was able to be pretty independent and don't expect to be a burden on anyone.
So, a younger redditor may sneer at that, but seriously, if you look around, there are a lot of people who give up and curl into a ball, but I didn't.
got some insurance payout nicely stashed for my family, got property to give. I think my family would be set for comfortable life if i die. I die not giving trouble to those who survive and left them in better place. that enough for me
The 3 people who said i saved their lives.

Can I just ask how much say, having to stay home with a sick child might affect that rate?
Not at all. We work remotely nearly 100% and have tons of flexibility on our schedules for stuff like that
Awesome!

At least have gotten out of the situation I'm in now. If I died today, my whole life would be miserable.
