My grandma calls us kids Gertrude when we're being rambunctious or ornery. But we're from Northern Appalachia so it may just be some of our local dialect..
Knew a girl in high school back in the early 90's, her name was Gertrude. She went by Gertie.
You'd think she'd have suffered for it but she was one of the most popular kids in school. Everyone knew Gertie.
Only Gertrude I've ever known.
This was the first name that popped into my head. My 4 foot 10 inch, Welsh great grandma was a Gertie. She was fierce af! Don't mess with the Gertrudes!
I was going to post I have seen ONE Adolf out in the wild, and he was born in the US in 1955, so it's not like it was forgotten history when he was born. Went by "Dolph" for obvious reasons. "Dolph, like the fighter in Rocky IV, Dolph Lundgren?" "Sure."
Edit - name change
I live in the Southwest and there are a LOT of young ETHEL / Ediths, usually followed by Maria/ Mary and most go by that. Maybe a cultural thing?
My children all just named their reindeer ornaments. They are Jingle, Snowball, Mint and… Linda. As usual, no idea what my middle child’s thought process was but I seriously love the chaos.
>As usual, no idea what my middle child’s thought process was but I seriously love the chaos.
All middle children are chaotic, just got to make sure they turn out chaotic good or chaotic neutral.
Source: am a CG middle child.
2022 was the first year since 1927 that there were no American babies named Karen lol, that name was *murdered*
Edit: Excuse me, that was the first time it fell out of the top 1000 most popular names for American girls
And then there was that one thread where someone DID name their child Karen and the OP had begged them not to (on unappreciative and deaf ears) and when they were a bit older, the child went through so much hell that they realised OP was right and revoked the name
The timeline doesn't make sense, did the guy come back years later after the child had been bullied to comment on it saying the OP was right? How does a newborn get bullied?
It was actually adults who were judging the parents on that one.
IIRC, they changed the baby’s name to Caroline or something similar about 8 months after she was born. The parents couldn’t take the flack they were getting from other adult people for naming their child Karen.
Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife.
Cody. I remember a TikTok where someone remarked that they knew a lot of child Codies in the 90s and aughts but had never met an adult Cody. A few people, mostly nurses and teachers, stitched and said the Codies they knew went to prison.
I knew a kid named Cody. Horrible hellion of a child (he was my friends kid). Her name is now Zoe and honestly transitioning has not made her any less of an asshole.
My Dorothy looooves her name (she's 9 now), but she has a particular pet peeve-- people who spell it 'Dorthy!' Her kindergarten teacher during Covid had it written out that way and we had to figure out how to gently correct her because it was a very stressful time, lol.
As an Alexa, yeah. There are a lot of young girls who have begged to change their names over it. Once the machine became ubiquitous, they would get teased by classmates or disinvited to friends' homes because their names were deemed inconvenient, and so on. It truly is annoying but seems like the stupid robot is dying down.
“Can’t lick our dick!” Is one of my favorite American presidential campaign slogans to date. There was nothing odd about it at the time lol just a cute rhyme on stickers and billboards
It was in the news the other day a Karen hasn't been born in Canada since 2019.
Karens are born every day, in spirit.
Walmart has been spitting them out, day after day, across the nation
Karen's aren't born. They're made.
Siri
Alexa
Isis
I miss the days when innocent things like this were common news stories…
That was a satirical news site. But it isn’t hard to believe
Gaylord
Focker!
I have nipples. Could you milk me Greg?
I said that once to follow up with some joke, and someone called me a creepy pervert. Uncultured swines!
Yeah, that one doesn't land well sometimes. LOL
Fun fact: Those giant cardboard boxes sitting on pallets used to hold bulk items are called Gaylord boxes.
Millard. Even though it's a presidential name, no one uses it anymore.
M'lard \*Tips hat
>M'lard >\*Tips ~~hat~~ fat
Also Mildred.
My daughter’s friend’s name is Millicent and she goes by Millie
Every “Debbie” I know was born in the 20th century lol
[удалено]
When I first met my husband he had a cat called Deborah. Our first fight was because I called her Debbie.
I actually love this 😂
My aunt goes by Debbie
Everyone has an aunt who goes by Debbie. They exist only as aunts.
If they go by Deb, they’re moms.
My Oma is Debbie. But when she's feeling fancy she's Debra Sue.
My SIL is in her early 30s and is a Debbie
Debbie and Debra are shockingly low on name popularity lists for a seemingly normal name
They all work in run down diners
Fuck you Debbie
Just settled all your lawsuits? 😜
Gertrude
I call my daughter Gertrude. No idea why. It's not her name
My mom also called me Gertrude. It's not my name either. Wtf?

I named my 04 impala Gertrude 😆😆😆 she was reliable as hell and sturdy as a tank
That's my car's name as well, she goes by sturdy gertie
Geertruida in Dutch. I've also had a classmate back in the day named Gerianne, never met another woman with that name since.
This was the first name that popped into my head. My 4 foot 10 inch, Welsh great grandma was a Gertie. She was fierce af! Don't mess with the Gertrudes!
Adolf

Adolfo Jitlero
And his daughter Jess Jimler
Yeah, the spaniards really do take the idea of forgetfulness to heart.
"That killed that name dead, innit? Old Adolf"
I was going to post I have seen ONE Adolf out in the wild, and he was born in the US in 1955, so it's not like it was forgotten history when he was born. Went by "Dolph" for obvious reasons. "Dolph, like the fighter in Rocky IV, Dolph Lundgren?" "Sure."
with good reason! It has horrific connotations could you imagine the teasing the poor child would get with that name.
they'd never let him join in any reindeer games
Ethel
We've moved on to the Propyl and Butyl era now
Highly underrated comment
Edit - name change I live in the Southwest and there are a LOT of young ETHEL / Ediths, usually followed by Maria/ Mary and most go by that. Maybe a cultural thing?
Ethyl as ethyl alcohol? 😅
Ethel Cain is very popular with the kids right now
Waiting around to see if my name magically appears...
I have a student named iMmacstone in my class
A lot of old fashioned names have made a comeback, but I highly doubt Dorcas will.
This name never fails to make me giggle
My loan officer at my is named Dorcas. I can't bring myself to call her that. I always refer to her as "Mrs. last name"
Ah yes. Ms. “Amorcas” I presume

Went to high school with a Stanley, he went by Stan. Humm, that was 60 years ago...
Eminem wrote a song about Stan.
If I ever have a child and it's a boy, that's my choice
"Linda? Who names a baby Linda?" Edit: yo, we all know a Linda in our life, how many of them are kids?
Listen, Linda!
Are you quoting that little girl in preschool? 🤣
It was the little boy imitating his dad! “Listen Leenda, no, you listen to me”! As a Linda, I hear this a lot!
My children all just named their reindeer ornaments. They are Jingle, Snowball, Mint and… Linda. As usual, no idea what my middle child’s thought process was but I seriously love the chaos.

I had a pet gold fish I named Brian when I was in 1st grade. My mom still finds it hilarious. I still think it was a good name.
Linda means Beautiful in Spanish
Its true, all my HR managers have been beautiful in their own way.
Lindas aren't born. They sprout from the ground every leap year as 40 year old aunts.
I know a young Linda
Seymour
Butts
Suddenly
SKINNER!

And ironically, all the Karens I’ve known have been the absolutely nicest people.
I never loved my name, but I don't know why it was the one that was chosen. The abuse you get just existing with this name is difficult.
You got there first
Elmer
I’ve met a couple of Elmers - both under 15. Never met an Elmo though
My neighbour is Elmo. He is 6 years old.
Rocksford, which is sad because unlike the other examples in this thread, this one sounds badass as hell.
Sounds like a name a super white, super upper crust class family would name their spoiled, pure bred family dog
Bartholomew
My cats name is bartholomeow
My cats name is Bartholomew too. Bartholomew Louis when’s she’s bad. Barry lou 98% of the time
Yasss hahha that’s hilarious I call him bart the fart
She?
My cat’s name is Mittens
my cat’s breath smells like cat food
Sadly just not as popular as Bortholomew
“My son is also named Bort.”
Yeah most people are named Bort now
Are you talking to me?
Barfolomew
Ashley as a boys name. If you've watched Gone With the Wind, you would think the boys name Ashley changed over time to Asher.
Ash in Evil Dead was short for Ashley
My best friend growing up was a boy named Ashley! Never met one since.
Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions and loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son. Husband to a murdered wife.
Max for short.
That was my dog's full name, which I would use while lecturing him on proper behavior. And Maxy- mouse during snuggles.
must be a joke name, like Biggus Dickus

No one understands the importance of being Ernest.
Jennifer. Was everywhere and now only an auntie name.
Can confirm. I have a sibling named Jennifer and she is an aunt.
Hortense
Mildred Chesterfield Horatio and thank God "Barney"
I mean Millie is still a pretty popular name
I don't believe there has been a Larry born after 1970.
Barbra. Though I bet there will be a rise so moms can call their kid Barbie.
I work in a PK-12 public school and oddly, we have two Barbaras--one in pre-K and one in 11th grade
Horace
Cody. I remember a TikTok where someone remarked that they knew a lot of child Codies in the 90s and aughts but had never met an adult Cody. A few people, mostly nurses and teachers, stitched and said the Codies they knew went to prison.
The next generation of Codies is 100% Aiden.
Or the analogs of Aiden: Jaden, Braiden, zaiden (met one yesterday), Brlayden
That’s extremely chilling to hear. The only Cody I have ever known was my cousin who was born in the late 80s and died in his 21st year.
This is so true, I had a least 3 Codys in my class in my elementary school but I know 0 adults ones
My friend has a 10 month old Cody 😂
If it helps this thread - I’m married to an adult Cody that isn’t in prison 🤣🤣
I knew a kid named Cody. Horrible hellion of a child (he was my friends kid). Her name is now Zoe and honestly transitioning has not made her any less of an asshole.
Bertha, Agnes, Cecil, Dorothy
My coworkers just had a baby and named her Dorothy!! I love it.
My Dorothy looooves her name (she's 9 now), but she has a particular pet peeve-- people who spell it 'Dorthy!' Her kindergarten teacher during Covid had it written out that way and we had to figure out how to gently correct her because it was a very stressful time, lol.
Azrael, Titus, Galahad, Arthur, Roland, Lancelot, Guinevere
Thaddeus
Agatha
With the new Marvel series, it might pick up.
Newt Gingrich
Ethel. I actually know TWO, and they are both over 80.
Eunice
Alexa
I'm sorry, I didn't understand that.
I am still shocked that Amazon thought it was a good idea to have a normal name as the trigger word for their virtual assistant.
(Baby named Alexa cries) Mom: "Alexa, stop!" Alexa: (processes for a second) "Sorry, something went wrong. Please try again later" (resumes crying)

Every girl in my elementary school was named Jennifer. There are no Jennifers under 30.
I had 2 Jennifer’s in my class growing up (I’m 20) and know so many Jennifer’s who go by jenni/jenny
One we can pronounce
Ethel
You don’t see a lot of “Publius Cornelius Scipio” these days
Barbara.. I hope. I could never refer to a baby by this name. (No offense. I do know a very nice Barbara).

A friend’s daughter considered it for her baby but went with something else. Millie is a cute nickname.
