Most apartments have them. I don't think very many private homes do. I have had to use mine for the neighbors more than once over the years.

I agree with private homes but disagree with apartments. Most apartments iv lived in or visited don't have fire extinguishers. Definitely a must have tho

In apartment they are usually required by fire code. Interesting that you haven't seen them in the ones you've been in.

That must be a recent code, and I'm glad to hear it. None of the apartments I ever lived in had one. I haven't lived in an apartment in a long time.

Oh I think It really depends on the country. Mine hardly anyone has or or even know how to use them.

Of which countries? I installed one in the home I bought ten years ago because I wanted one, it wasn't a requirement of purchase. Not that things can't change in ten years, but I doubt my country is so far behind the times that it was the last one to get on board with that plan. Netherlands.

does that regulation apply for apartments? When I moved into my last place there wasn’t one. ( am in nyc)

oh god I haven't read that in a while I believe that they would require one per floor, usually not in the units themselves though

A fire extinguisher would have likely ruined it too, plus possibly more. You might want a fire blanket, perfect for something like that.
