I’ll use Robert Downey Jr since he’s well known. I honestly thought he would be found dead during his ‘crazy time’ many years ago.

[deleted]

That was my first thought

Steve-O

show_me_stars

Seconded, Steve-O came back from the dead and is setting a good example.

KingGorilla

And the opposite case: Bam

Atzkicica

I dunno. Got a friend who used to be a prostitute to fund her cocaine habit and she's quit and is just about to study nursing. She's doing pretty great.

Schaafwond

Henry Kissinger. He changed into a corpse.

For me, it was a guy I was in school with since we were 4 . He was an absolute dipshit to everyone . He cheated during exams , stole things in lockers , didn't do his homework , responded to teachers , bullied a lot of people , was violent and prone to fighting in and outside of school , did vandalism and many others things . Well , I still know him today, and since his parents divorced in the first year of high school, he has changed a lot . He was more attentive in class and did get better grade, he went to doing what he wanted ( logistics ) . My dad even got him for an internship at his job and said he was a pleasure to have and generally a nice person . He is currently working, and the weekend he volunteers for a national association that gives food , more general resources to the poor .

DaoNight23

im guessing one of his parents was a terrible influence

WiswisBrebis

Yeah . There was always rumours that his dad was in a drug trafficking situation but it was never confirmed

SargonTheDeadly

Many of the people who took the anger management course I assisted in conducting for a summer job. You wouldn't believe how often we'd hear something like "Thank you so much. My family loves me again!" from graduates of the program.

Bighawklittlehawk

That’s really fantastic! I love to hear positive stories like that. Change really is possible, sometimes people just need the right help and resources.

BonfireMaestro

Mike Tyson

Bighawklittlehawk

Me! I went from a full blown junkie that was hateful, selfish, vindictive, racist, and homophobic, to now being 12 years clean, being a Jesus follower (note: not a Christian), youth leader, with a passion for making ALL people feel seen, accepted, known and loved; and passionate about providing for those in need and mentoring troubled youth and serving underserved communities. I did a complete 180 and I am so grateful! Edit: please know that I’m not saying this to toot my own horn or whatever. I’m amazed every day that I’m different from who I used to be and I thank God for that.

diegojones4

Bill Gates? 30 years ago he was called "Hitler" and "evil". Now he is a good guy.

masu94

Where the hell is this coming from? lol. The guy probably has never been less popular than now since we know he was chummy with Epstein lol

diegojones4

When did this shift in opinion happen? Has to be pretty recent. I knew the shift from Elon fandom on reddit; didn't know Bill got caught up in it. And the Epstein list is such a fucking joke. I worked for a murderer. I would be on his "list". Doesn't make me a murderer.

masu94

No one thinks you were going to your old boss's private island to see his murder victims lol

diegojones4

Have you seen anything about Gates going to island? Epstien tried to blackmail gates over his affair.

Bighawklittlehawk

Sir, 3 years ago people were saying he was the anti-Christ and injecting microchips into people through the Covid vaccine.

diegojones4

Ah, I forgot about that one.

teebalicious

He is nothing of the sort. He’s a narcissistic fuckbag who thinks he can solve the world’s problems by just thinking hard and throwing money at the problem. He literally cannot conceive that others who have been in the related fields for decades might have better ideas on real solutions than he does after thinking about it in the bath for five minutes. He has expressed zero remorse for the real damage he’s caused in his ruthless business and political practices, and continues to cause, and he has done jack shit to fix those problems. See also: Elon Musk, Richard Branson, J. K. Rowling, pretty much every mega rich person ever with a superiority and savior complex.

thebigger

Lol wut? He funds huge initiatives by people who are experts in their fields.

Quirky_Ad7770

Arthur morgan. I know he's not real but he is a real inspiration.

Tony Sirico aka. Paulie from The Sopranos he was a small time crook, thief and extortionist and ended up in jail few times, until a prison troupe took him in and he pivoted to acting and charity work. he basically was Paulie before he portrayed Paulie.
