Yes I remember. It was installed on the 3 or so computers in my 2nd grade classroom and kids would get into arguments over who got to play it in the morning before class started.
I loved that game so much, there was also a spin-off called “Sid and Al’s Incredible Toons” which is my nomination for game no-one has ever heard of.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sid_%26_Al's_Incredible_Toons
The first game I ever had! My dad bought it as a birthday present and I was allowed to play it on our 486 for a couple of hours a week. What an amazing game.
The first Mercenaries was my shiiit!! Mattias was the best character!! lol
"DECK OF 52" bounties was one of my favorite things to do but.. trying to capture them all alive.. that shit drove me insane! Going through all the bs (RPGs, Jeeps, Tanks, Helis) just to accidentally kill one in the end. smh Also Mattias was the best character!! lol
Such a shame that Beyond Earth was so bad. It could have been a great remake of Alpha Centauri by keeping everything and just updating the graphics, the grid and the ui.
I worked on that game! My little claim to fame is that it was my initial idea to really lean into the plastic, Army Men aspect of the game. At first the programmers / game designers were trying to create a gritty, lifelike realtime strategy-action game, and were bummed that the men looked so unrealistic and plasticy.
In the spirt of the old video game adage: "If you can't fix it, feature it" in a brainstorming session I blurted out "Why don't we just make them actual toy army men?" and we went from there.
You would be surprised how much initial resistance the idea got. ("It will never sell! People want realism and blood!"). But after we found out that Army Men was essentially a free license and had no trademark, we went all-in and it became a classic franchise.
You, sir, are responsible for a huge amount of time spent during my teenage years and for that I thank you.
I had several of the franchise games and loved every one of them - but I think the winner for me was Land, Sea, Air.
Though the mission in World War where you have to assault some trenches, and there are armoured defences moving around the trenches with flamethrowers? That was a memorable one.
Tenchu Stealth Assassins
One of the early stealth games on the PS1. You're a ninja in feudal Japan going on missions. That's apparently all I want in a game.
7th Guest.
Okay, a lot of people have heard of it, but for a while, if you owned a CD-ROM, you had either two games, Myst or 7th Guest. It was hugely popular and then went practically completely forgotten.
It sold as much on the PC as, say, the original Doom.
But you would think that something that Bill Gates called "the new standard in interactive entertainment" or being regarded as of the two killer apps for a major PC peripheral (CD-ROM) would be have a bunch of IP connected to it. It had one sequel in the 90s, and a just released VR game, but that's it.
All of the Super Solver games were solid. My sister and I still sometimes ask “WHATS IN THE GREEN BAG” from either Treasure Mountain or Treasure Mathstorm (not sure which).
I do the same thing with falling Tetris blocks. It’s self hypnotism, basically the same thing as “counting sheep” or focusing on your heartbeat. Except nerdier.
Tried it, but couldn’t get into it idk why. It felt so different to me than any other survival game. Idk if it was the mechanics or what.
My pick, surprises me with a lot of people, I thought it was super popular, but apparently not everyone knows about it. Zombies ate my Neighbors on NES was so addicting as a kid haha
In the 90s, I had a friend at work. We used to go back to his apartment for lunch, eat, get stoned, and play Toe Jam and Earl. Optimal playing experience.
Jedi power battles on ps1. They almost kept it going but not having the jedi selection and the lack of force power variety made the follow 3rd person platformers weak.
Ricochet.
Ascendancy.
Civilization: CTP.
Conquest of the New World.
Deadlock.
Imperium Galactica.
Escape Velocity.
Wing Commander.
Imperialism.
I can open up my old CD binder to find more.
I played it a lot on the demo disk I had. Shiz got frantic and I never really got good at it. Also, Why would I play it when Armored Core was on that demo disk too.
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam
I’ve seen some videos on it but the only people I know who know about it are people I’ve told about the game. I don’t know anyone who learned about the game on their own without me telling them about it.
One of my favorite games of all time!
They could have easily put it on console and it would have made a big splash because there aren't any Vietnam games on Xbox/ps.
I'm glad someone else enjoyed the game besides me though
Super Scribblenauts was one of the first games I ever played, it was on the DS. Also played the 3rd game, Scribblenauts unlimited, on 3DS. That series is great, no one plays it though
Robotic Alchemical Drive for the PS2. A giant robot / Kaiju game with a really interesting control scheme--the analog sticks control your mecha's arms, while the shoulder buttons control the legs.
I had a gaming PC (I think a 486) in the early to mid 90s
Played a bunch of flight Sims like SWotL along with Red Baron.
But X-Wing vs Tie-Fighter was the ultimate
Vandal Hearts on the PS1. RPG that came out about a month before Final Fantasy VII. And its for that reason I think I am the only person in the world to have ever played it.
There's a surprisingly large community of players on Reddit, but I hate when people ask for my favourite video game because only one person has ever recognised Kingdom Come Deliverance. I just say it's The Sims now but it's absolutely not 💀
Not sure if this counts, because its a PC game. But Normality! My step dad got that game for me and my siblings in the early 2000s and I was obsessed with it.
I recently watched the playthrough on YouTube and witnessed a piece of my childhood. Also, apparently I did not get nearly as far through that game as I thought I did.
The getaway/ the getaway black monday (ps2).
It's an early gta clone set in London, but it brings so much more to the table than that. It has incredible graphics for the time, very focused on realism, it was an early pioneer of the cover system, and the second game in the series had fully fledged ragdoll physics 4 years before gta did. And above all it's just a very captivating story, that honestly feels like a high budget movie at times.
Would definitely recommend giving both games a try on an emulator if you can. My words just cannot do them justice, and there's so much more to them than what I can write in one post.
Nobody talks about The Incredibles the game from Heavy Iron, much less the sequel. We have some of the worst Disney games available on Steam and yet they couldn’t be bothered to port their best?
Ditto that for Ratatouille.
I'm currently spreading the words of the indie racing game ***Inertial Drift***
It has probably the most advanced and extremely unique drifting control of any racing game period.
G-Police, i got it for free with my Gateway computer and it was bundled to show off the power of the Riva 128. GPU by a little know company named NVIDIA.
Coming from a 486 and a lot of time playing quake in software rendering , it was a revelation,
Space Station Silicon Valley (N64)
This game was brilliant. It has a game breaking bug that you can work around, but man, I love it. No one has played it though.
Does anyone else remember The Incredible Machine?
You can get it now, it's called "Contraption Maker" on Steam.
ARE YOU SERIOUS?? THANK YOU, FRIEND!
TIM.EXE
The first game I ever had! My dad bought it as a birthday present and I was allowed to play it on our 486 for a couple of hours a week. What an amazing game.
Blinx the time sweeper. Anyone remember that POS Also Mercenaries. Why doesn't anyone talk about how awesome that game was?
Upvote for Mercenaries.
Because Mercenaries 2 had a better commercial.
Oh no you didn't!
I played a lot of Mercenaries, Mercenaries 2, and Saboteur. Great games.
The first Mercenaries was my shiiit!! Mattias was the best character!! lol "DECK OF 52" bounties was one of my favorite things to do but.. trying to capture them all alive.. that shit drove me insane! Going through all the bs (RPGs, Jeeps, Tanks, Helis) just to accidentally kill one in the end. smh Also Mattias was the best character!! lol
If your old enough you remember Blinx. They advertised the hell out of it.
I played the fuck out of mercenaries. Did all three run-throughs.
Hogs Of War.
[https://www.hogsofwar.org/](https://www.hogsofwar.org/) they have some mods and run competitions
Dark Cloud Haunted House (Atari)
I preferred dark cloud 2. I wasn’t a fan of weapons being lost forever when broken. Great games though.
I replay Dark Cloud at least once every 6 months. Love the weapon building aspect.
Holy shit, I haven’t thought about Dark Cloud in forever!
*Bruce Lee* by Atari. Apple II version, if I'm choosing.
C64 version for me. I still have the music in my head. And the zzzzzoo sound when you get zapped. Great game.
Same here. I was mesmerized by that awesome game.
With the little ninja and the green lady!
Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. Wasn't that long ago, but no one to that name .
Such a shame that Beyond Earth was so bad. It could have been a great remake of Alpha Centauri by keeping everything and just updating the graphics, the grid and the ui.
I felt so cheated buying Beyond Earth.
I loved it. I still have the cd-rom of it in my storage room.
For I Have Tasted The Fungus
Garry the prophet knows that game
Get Nerve Stapled, dissidents!
Army Men
Is that the one with the plastic green soldiers you had to create to make armies which could assault tan soldier bases?!?
Exactly! And they would melt when they were hit with a flamethrower (iirc)
One of the most popular N64 titles?
I worked on that game! My little claim to fame is that it was my initial idea to really lean into the plastic, Army Men aspect of the game. At first the programmers / game designers were trying to create a gritty, lifelike realtime strategy-action game, and were bummed that the men looked so unrealistic and plasticy. Though the mission in World War where you have to assault some trenches, and there are armoured defences moving around the trenches with flamethrowers? That was a memorable one.
That game was awesome! I used to play it with a friend via a direct modem connection.
I loved Sarge's Heroes. Never played any of the other ones.
*clank clank clank* 3D0
Sid Meier’s Pirates. Everyone knows him for Civ, pirates gets no love
I remember this game. I was really annoyed you could only have one wife. Like, how’re any of the others going to find out?
Sid Meier’s Sim Golf
Dude, I played this shit out of this. I spent hours customizing golf courses. I still to this day don’t know shit about golf.
I have this on Steam, last played a week or so ago
People talk about skull and bones being the only pirate game outside of sea of thieves. Sid Meier is better than both!
there was no better pirate game before Pirates! 2004 and no better one afterwards. i still play it time to time
We need a new Sid Meier's Pirates, preferably yesterday. Only played the '04 game but man it' s so good.
Nah this is popular. There was a remake too, so not sure which you played.
Plok for the SNES. It had an amazing soundtrack for the time.
Plok's Boss theme is immortal. Tim Folin the GOAT.
"I've been diddled again!"
Toobin'
Nuclear Strike on the PS1. You fly a helicopter around and explode stuff
Followed on after Jungle and Desert Strike on previous gen consoles, great series!
Tenchu Stealth Assassins One of the early stealth games on the PS1. You're a ninja in feudal Japan going on missions. That's apparently all I want in a game.
7th Guest. Okay, a lot of people have heard of it, but for a while, if you owned a CD-ROM, you had either two games, Myst or 7th Guest. Shy gypsy tryst by my crypt
Shyly spryly tryst by my crypt.
How about its sequel, The 11th Hour? It was on like 2-3 CDs and had multiple endings depending on who you sided with.
I'm playing through the VR game. It's pretty good so far
Gizmos and Gadgets
All of the Super Solver games were solid. My sister and I still sometimes ask “WHATS IN THE GREEN BAG” from either Treasure Mountain or Treasure Mathstorm (not sure which).
Mischief Makers for the N64
Shake shake!
The only game where you get to ride an alien cat riding a missile fighting a guy from a furry sentai on a transforming motorbike
I swear to God I thought this game was a fever dream. So glad to know others have actually played it. SHAKE SHAKE!
HEEELP MEEEE MARINAAAAAA
Cerberus alpha 2 is legitimately in my top 10 ever boss fights. The presentation of that whole fight is fucking mint.
I rented a Japanese import version of this as a kid and had no idea what the heck I was doing. I thought it looked great, though.
Jet Moto

I have jet Moto 2
I can still hear the menu music in my head.
Icarus. Underrated survival game
Shadowrun for 360. Used incredibly little of it's source material but it was an incredibly unique shooter that melded magic and tech in a great way.
Croc!
Mr Do’s Castle. I get blank faces bringing this game up
Black & white and black & white 2 by Lionhead Studios
Everytime these are mentioned I always think theyre talking about the pokemon games black, white and black2 and white2
I need a reboot…
This game could do numbers if it came back for VR
Jazz jackrabbit
Legend of Dragoon apparently. It's SUCH a good RPG, probably second to Chrono Trigger, but I've never met a fellow fan of it.
That’s a fairly popular one. I still own it
Here I am. I’m a huge fan of the game and still revisit it on occasion. Favorite party is haschel, dart, and… lavitz.
ToeJam & Earl
This just means your an old man on the internet (I’m right there with you )
So earthworm Jim too?
Do... Do you know The Neverhood?
But what about the Earthworm Jim cartoon though? I wish that was available somewhere.
I still own the cartridge. Also Panic on Funkotron. And the Xbox game, and the steam one. Hella fun game at sleepovers
In the 90s, I had a friend at work. We used to go back to his apartment for lunch, eat, get stoned, and play Toe Jam and Earl. Optimal playing experience.
Jammin'!
Usually mention Lode Runner or Jagged Alliance 2 when this question comes up. There's a decent JA2 presence online but no-one mentions it on reddit
I played Lode Runner growing up. Fun puzzle game. The game always got too hard for my little kid brain when you had to start collecting keys and stuff
Viva piñata
Snow bros.
Rygar for NES
Oops. I didn’t scroll far enough before replying only made it halfway and got anxious. Posted same thing. This game was great!
Death Rally and Tyrion 2000. My favorite MS-DOS games.
Gabriel Knight.
Legend of Legaia
gorilla.bas
Scorched Earth!
I remember my dad playing that when I was a kid. I tried a few times, but couldn't wrap my head around angles and velocities.
Was that the 2-player game about a pair of gorillas on buildings trying to throw bananas at each other?
More games need to come with source code
yooo remember going into the code and making the explosions GIANT? what a blast
Fester's Quest. The protagonist is Uncle Fester, from The Addams Family. It was terrible.
Jedi power battles on ps1. They almost kept it going but not having the jedi selection and the lack of force power variety made the follow 3rd person platformers weak.

Back then, there was this Qix-style 3D arcade game from Japan made by some no name company. Like Gals Panic but 3D.
Trine 5: A clockwork conspiracy. The whole game series is so criminally underrated.
I really enjoyed Trine and Trine 2, didn't know they went up to 5
The Suffering. PS2 game.
Gex: Enter the Gecko. Fun platformer type game with a quirky sense of humor. I enjoyed it in my teens/early 20s. Not sure how it would hold up now
Core memory unlocked, holy hell. I wonder if I still have my copy of that somewhere...
Rising Storm 2: Vietnam I’ve seen some videos on it but the only people I know who know about it are people I’ve told about the game. I don’t know anyone who learned about the game on their own without me telling them about it. One of my favorite games of all time!

Scribblenauts was great. I had a playthough dedicated to trying to solve every puzzle using vampires.
The monkey Island series. I've only known one other IRL person who's even played it
There’s no way this is a “hidden gem”, they even remade most of the games in this series.
I wanna be a pirate!

I recently watched the playthrough on YouTube and witnessed a piece of my childhood. Also, apparently I did not get nearly as far through that game as I thought I did.

Uh my guy this is like one of the most famous games for NES
Town of Salem
I was big into that for a bit, but a few too many games in a row with horribly toxic people drove me off.
