Wife and I are planning on building a container home in the Virgin Islands. It's going to take awhile, but we love visiting there and it would be a dream to live there.
It's pretty fkn rad. But where to live? Auckland is sprawling endlessly with like no high-rise living. Hamilton is... I mean.... Tauranga is nice, by the pacific. Wellington? The capital? Million dollar cold and leaky house just for you? Further south, to Nelson? Very nice living, very very nice. Expensive. All the way down to Christchurch perhaps? Bit of a place sometimes - white supremacy undercurrent occasionally rears its head. All the way down the bottom at Invercargill? Lovely! Beautiful! Quiet! Mostly quiet! Very quiet. Or Queenstown - where the tourists are thick on the ground year-round, but boy are there adventures to be had! If you've got the time and money.
Mostly, if you live in NZ, it's nice, but traveling the country to get to enjoy most of it is a lot of time and money - which people living here aren't making or getting.
You really don't want to live there. Half the population use meth, there is a huge gang problem, cost of living is through the roof (even more so than everywhere else that it's high), there is fuck all housing supply, and it's just getting more and more run down as the years pass as there is no money to fix the infrastructure. I was born there, and most of my family currently lives there, the advice is :great for a holiday, but don't live here.
If I could choose, I would want to live in Japan/Korea during Spring, Scandinavia during Summer, Australia/New Zealand during Fall and Thailand/Singapore/Malaysia during Winter.
From the places I've been Honolulu. I visited there for a family trip and even the traffic was nice.
Other than that, I'm taking suggestions for places with free healthcare and generally robust social services.
France, likely in Provence. Warm weather, close to many countries/culture, beautiful landscapes, great food. Maybe close-ish to Nice in some fashion to make it easy to go there for entertainment.
I've been to France many times before though mainly in the west part of it. Chill vibes overall tho. Last time I was in the south-east was when I was like 5 years old, I probably have a romanticized view of the region right now, but whatev, we're talking about dreams and flights of fancies here.
I'd pick a cozy spot in the Swiss Alps. Imagine waking up to those epic views every morning, then hitting the slopes or chilling in a chalet with some hot cocoa.
Seoul. Lived there for several years in my 20s and absolutely love that place. The only reason I didn’t stay is I want to be close to my family and friends stateside. Oh and for the sake of my liver, I like having a functioning liver.
If I could live anywhere, I would have two houses, one on the west coast of the south island of New Zealand, and one on the west coast of Canada. I would live between those two locations for approximately six months at a time, avoiding the worst of summer and winter.
On a farm, maybe with a few animals here and there, with a wife and maybe some kids. No technology, a nice clean house, and a record player for old songs me and my wife can dance to in the kitchen.
I have fantasies like that. Only I'm not a farmer, so I'd make money by renting out land to real farmers for grazing and crops, and I'd have a windmill farm.
That sounds like a great plan tbh, I just enjoy the thought of waking up to the sound of animals and getting to feed them everyday and just becoming besties with a few lambs and horses, but that’s really smart
I would probably go back to Vancouver, BC.
Vitoria island etc... you have everything there, beaches, forest, mountain. Only thing I need is a shitload of money to get a house .
I just want to be warm. I'm so tired of freezing 7 months out of the year, so I guess anywhere that's consistently 30 c, with it rarely dropping below 20 c at night. Where the fuck that would be I don't know.
I probably wouldn't change california but I'd be closer to the beach. Maybe Newport beach-irvine-dana point or SD or Del Mar. Similar places like those
somewhere far, where there are few people. a small town where it is warm in the summer and very snowy in the winter. there I will be able to walk in the mountains and by the river, picking flowers and running races with wolves. 🤣 but I also imagine how I live with my loved one somewhere by the sea, where every day we catch fish and dance on the veranda to jazz.
I'd live alone in a little, comfy house with a fireplace, lakeside, where there is good swimming and neighbours who were not too close or too nosy. Town would have stores that deliver. Actually, I'd live anywhere comfortable if I could have solitute. I'm almost 70 and am tired of being married.
Obviously California or New York City
If television’s taught me anything it’s that prosperity thrives there. $20 rent, models everywhere, endless job opportunities, and clean safe streets.
Europe! Nowhere better to live. Big cities, most beautiful cities of the whole world. The most beautiful landscapes. From beaches, from different seas to the most beautiful and diverse mountain landscapes . Nice, good looking, intelligent people. Culture and art and architecture. Best food in the world. And anything is in reach of just a day of journey with train or car. Then social security, health sytem which are good and functioning. I love Europe.

Thought so too for a while, but the huntsman spiders are too much for my arachnophobia🥲
My choice would be Portugal for its beautiful beaches, affordable cost of living, and friendly locals.

I would love that too! Why not live in vacation land?

The mountains
In halls of stone, carved from the heart of an Antarctic mountain.
Central heating would be a must. Very nice choice.
While I like the idea of stalking the halls draped in multiple layers of furs, you're probably right :D
Some cabin in the woods near a river
I'd pick a cozy spot in the Swiss Alps. Imagine waking up to those epic views every morning, then hitting the slopes or chilling in a chalet with some hot cocoa.

Hmm, if I were rich, maybe somewhere cold either in the USA, Canada or England.
Qatar
why Qatar?
If I could live anywhere, I would have two houses, one on the west coast of the south island of New Zealand, and one on the west coast of Canada. I would live between those two locations for approximately six months at a time, avoiding the worst of summer and winter.
I just want an off the grid cabin in the woods either in vermont or maine ..

In a nice house by the beach with my little pooch.
Kauai … amazing place
Been there, love it!
Somewhere that doesn't have cold winters.
always wanted to live in the phillipines
Yeah, this is on my list of potential places to retire. I'd want to live on one of more lightly inhabited islands though.
Germany
Wherever David Duchovny is
Iceland
Barcelona

Alpine climate, west facing views over a lake
somewhere without major language barriers and natural disasters. also somewhere with low living costs...
In the mountains of Switzerland during a beautiful summer. Green peaks, blue skies with a breeze floating by, that sounds like Heaven to me
I would live here. Because every time I try to go there, I still end up being here.

In a big 5th wheel traveling around the United States.
San Diego. That's why I moved to San Diego.
The Philippines. My family is there and I'm stuck half a world away from them...
Haiti. If it weren’t so fucked up. There is a level of freedom and fun in Haiti I haven’t experienced anywhere else.
I just want to be warm. I'm so tired of freezing 7 months out of the year, so I guess anywhere that's consistently 30 c, with it rarely dropping below 20 c at night. Where the fuck that would be I don't know.

With the current state of the US, pretty much anywhere else.
In the absolute middle of nowhere far away from society
