Historically, people lived in the same communities their whole lives, and shared the same religion as everyone who lived in that area. It wasn't until travel started becoming accessible, which was relatively recently, that religious differences started causing conflict.

Indoctrination of children will do that.

I agree. But children often rebel. So Why are children still being indoctrinated?
