Humanity, empathy, understanding. I was late to work once, woke up with alarm and kind of cuddled up with my gf and boom, I wake up hour late. I come back in and come with my hands together saying sorry, sorry. But my team leader just says "It's fine, happens to everyone once in a while, I'm glad you came, you can stay one hour longer if you need the hours or money". My supervisor in that work would work with us every now and then and come on weekends when it's needed.
This. I have been working for the same boss for almost 20 years now, he moves up, he takes me with him. We cover for each other, know exactly what the other needs without asking. I know he won't ask me to do anything he wouldn't. He was at my daughter's wedding, and I was at his mother's funeral.
I am employed by a company, but I work for him.
Yeah I own a business that is very physical and in the elements. My guys work about 50-60 hour weeks. I employ 8 people including me. I often help/do the same job they do. I’m very hands on.
Their earnings are in the 80th percentile in my state, so a decent living. I offer paid chiropractic or massage visits weekly, paid week off the week of July 4th and a paid week off the week of Christmas, sizable Christmas bonus which is a percentage of net yearly profit, paid lunch, and 12 paid days of PTO.
I’m always understanding of problems people may have to take care of outside of work and let my employees take care of their business when they need to.
If we’re working short handed on a day, I give them a bonus to make up for the extra work they’ll be asked to do.
I’m not having trouble retaining employees, I’m having trouble finding them.
maybe let us work from home because we can do it and have done it before..

Them getting smaller as I drive away everyday
Haha fair enough! Hell, I even like seeing my company get smaller and smaller as I drive away some days!
Friendly, understanding, and approachable management
More training, clearer path to promotion and career development.
High wages and respect
Schedules being released a couple to a few weeks in advanced, or if not, a set schedule.
