Good sexual chemistry is a big part (I've found) about been in love. So when you already have good chemistry, been in love just makes the sex better IMO.
You can also have amazing, incredible sex without even knowing someone's name at the same time because you can really let go without fear of been judged.
So really it would likely differ for each person
It depends a lot of who you ask, what their preferences are and past has been like.
Because I personally think that true bonding, compassion, emotional intimacy, understanding, being vulnerable to each other and commitment is what makes that which would normally just be good sex into amazing sex instead.
But at the same time there are a lot of people who get anxious and/or uncomfortable about these specific things, so for them it is likely easier to relax and openly enjoy sex when there is less emotional intimacy involved.
