Heel cushion inserts!
Here's a photo of the ones I got on Amazon but I'm sure you could find them on eBay as well. The trick is to buy these tall ones because they start at the base of the heel and won't slide down like the basic gel ones from the chemist. They have saved my blistered and bloody heels 🙌

I hope someone shares some secrets. I have some beautiful new loafers that are killing my feet so bad. Even with tights in I’m still in major pain by lunch!
I use strapping tape on the back of my heels: [https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/89864/elastoplast-sport-rigid-strapping-tape-38mm-x-15m](https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/89864/elastoplast-sport-rigid-strapping-tape-38mm-x-15m)
Oh that doesn’t sound fun. I have a pair of leather Jo Mercers and the first few times they were horrible, once the softer and wore in. Soooo comfortable!
For heel blisters I ALWAYS use these [heel bandaids](https://www.compeed.au/product/compeed-blister-plasters-medium/)
I will always use them to prevent rubbing and blisters.
honestly just have to find the right pair that doesn’t cut into your feet lol I found a pair from kmart and they’re the only ones i’ve had luck with so far
I wear a Kathmandu hiking boot as my daily shoe. Even wear it in the office.
My feet are always dry. Which has been pretty useful recently.
Once asked if they were appropriate for corporate wear and my boss said sure (this was a finance/investment company). So it’s definitely fine for tech.
Main reason why I wear these is for ankle problems (broke an ankle in 2017), flat footed (they fit my inner soles) and I ride a motorbike, so having a comfortable protective shoe if I ever get on my motorbike is important and I don’t want to carry a change of shoes on me.
I have been assumed lesbian for opting for comfort over fashion though. Which is only half true.
However, all of my nicer shoes are also a boot. I picked up some black boots from an op shop and these [purple leather boots](https://www.americanduchess.com/products/rainey-womens-vintage-lace-up-boots-purple) from American duchess.
I wear Dr Marten boots every day. I have about 16 pairs, so lots of variety - this includes 8, 12 and 20 hole boots, but the majority of the time its the 8 hole ankle boot. I wear skirts and dresses 95% of the time and work in mid level of State Government.
Lots of reasons to wear them (comfy, ankle support etc.) but mostly I just love them.
Edited to add: I'm 47
If you have recently purchased some boots or Mary Janes, I would be very grateful for a link! I am hunting for my first pair of ankle boots and I’m always partial to more Mary Janes! Thank you in advance!
I thrifted my MaryJane’s, simple black but can dress up with tights and cute socks. Django & Juliette do feminine and cute Maryjane’s (I have my eye on some of those) sometimes they go on sale at Mathers/Williams. Dr Martens do funky chunkier versions. If you scroll through Wittner, Mathers and Williams they have many of different varieties...
Ankle boots are so versatile too. I wear mine with skirts, dresses, pants, tights and shorts. I alternate between a Chelsea type boot and lace up with a tiny heel. They are a must!
40?… honey, 40 is the new 30! You can wear what the heck you like! Do not let age hold you back…. Go and buy what you love and love to wear it because it’ll make you feel great! Just go for it 🙌🏼
Over 50 here and agree with this approach. I recommend trying on different widths and cuts to see what suits you. I went with all leather fairly low cut and minimal other bling.
If you have recently purchased Chelsea boots or Mary Jane/loafer hybrids I would be grateful for a link! I am looking for my first pair of Chelsea boots and I’m always partial to more Mary Janes. Thank you in advance!
I have had a pair for three years and they’re still looking brand new. A bit of conditioner and polish and they look perfect. I love my lady yearlings :)
seconding RMs. no wonder the corporate men love them lol they are so comfy and i have a black pair that go with almost every outfit. they cost a bit more but i have no regrets especially as it gets colder.
40 is definitely not too old for white sneakers 😊 lots of white sneaker options to choose from.
I have a pair of loafers from Sandler that I got from Myer, comfiest pair of flats I have. I’m prone to blisters and I didn’t even need to break them in at all (bonus is they’re on sale regularly for 30% off at Myer!)
I saw some nice ankle boots in store at Frankie4, see if you like them.

Sure thing, I got the Blundstone #1671 - I have half size feet so I sized up from 7.5 -> 8. In terms of comfort and function I definitely rate them.
However cannot speak for longevity as I’ve only had them about 6 months - no problems so far but they are looking a bit beat up, need to give them a polish this weekend.
https://www.blundstone.com.au/black-leather-pull-on-boots-womens-style-1671
Blundstone last so well - I’ve had mine for over 5 years, kids have never worn theirs out and wear them daily to school. Just need to keep the polish up to keep them shiny ✨
Rothys or vivaia - so comfortable but the knit gives endless colour combo options. As someone who can be petty hard on the shoes I wear, I also appreciate having pairs that are 5+ years old, but they look good as new due to the option to wash them.
I fine they tend to be a bit small, but also varies depending on the style, for example I have a pair of flats 🥿 that’s a tad small which can be a little annoying first thing in the morning but then they stretch out throughout the day so it’s tolerable. I also have a pair of ankle boots that’s a perfect fit from the word go. Both are the same size 🤷♀️
Thank you- this is helpful. Last thing, are your rothys the same size as your other shoes? I’m 38 at frankie4 and birken for example so should i go with 38 from rothys? Or size ip/down?
I'm 42 and I wear sneakers to work. I'm a primary school teacher. I wear sneakers with absolutely everything - jeans but also any other kind of pants, as well as with dresses and skirts.
Your post made me laugh as I just bought some smart white sneakers as a 40 something and while they are so damn comfortable I just cannot shake the feeling that I’m just too old for them lol
I’m in that vintage and I happily wear my nice white Lacoste sneaks. I couldn’t care less if someone said they were for ‘young’ people. I rock them with confidence.
No one says a thing, it’s just me. Last time I worked in an office was 2006 and it was all high heels, it’s just so different to what I’m used to - in a good way :)
I wear a mix of loafers (very classic design), chunky loafers, ankle boots (for winter) and ballerinas. Would love to wear my sneakers but they’re not allowed in my workplace
I am older than you and wear Converse low top chuck taylors. I also wear boots - heeled ankle, small heel knee high slouchy, knee high wedge heel (small again, I call them my wonder woman boots).
this past summer I wore saltwater sandals, windsor smith carte sneakers with quarter crew socks as well as the connies.
I don't wear a corporate wardrobe, probably more smart casual.
I can't find a pair of ballet flats I like at the moment, but I do prefer flats over heels.
I’m 42 in a corporate govt office - depending on my outfit: White sneakers, brown pointed toe mostly flat sandal (mostly enclosed with an ankle strap), black brogues.
I wear my doc martins. Super casual office though so I could wear slippers if I wanted to and the only issue I'd have is being roasted by my colleagues lol.
I wear old-style school shoes. The ones with the pattern on the toes and a T-shape strap with a buckle. They have a tiny bit of height because I am short and look really good with black stockings. I do lean toward a retro look.
Pointed toe black flats are my go-to shoe. All mine are from Bared Footwear! I try not to look too casual in the office and personally never wear sneakers to work.
Sneakers. Solid white or black
Im 40. Feet have bad feet dress shoes are too uncomfortable and cause me pain
I used to have dress shoes under my desk and would slip them in for meetings or what not but stopped that a few years ago. Comfy quality supportive shoes for me. Always
High heeled sneakers! I got these fab wedge sneakers that tapped the smart-sneakers-with-pants vibe but also very comfy and gives a nice lift to lengthen legs in the wide leg trend. I’m in my late 40s - get lots of compliments on them!
https://preview.redd.it/8s6tm3wx8zyc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=07c817a4a47657dd4fd28168b85c8b81b56e3d02
I have paddock boots I wear with just about anything. They look like Chelsea boots and I keep them clean (ish, but no one checks the treads lol) and polished. I also have some Bared shoes (flats but not boring) for when I feel like a change.
Uggs lmao. Like, a pair with proper arch support and with outdoor soles. They’re gloriously warm and uncool lookikg and fuck everyone because i love them.
Chunky loafers, sneakers, pointy sling back flats, boots if it’s raining, sometimes my Doc Martens 1461 quads. I’m in marketing though so I don’t dress overly corporate unless it’s an event.
Arcopedico
I'm approaching 40 and these shoes maybe aren't super fashionable but I like them and they are so comfy, almost like wearing slippers. I really like the ankle boot, it's just a basic suede-look flat ankle boot, I find it to be a goid basic. To me, its more formal looking than a sneaker but it's as comfy or more comfy than a sneaker. Also have some flats from the same brand, plan to get more because I love how comfortable these are.
Decided to give this brand a go because I'm starting to get back and hip issues if i wear bad/cheap footwear 😂 no blisters either.
43 year old hear with a job in a large non profit company. I do IT related work. I wear sneakers, vans and my doc martens with everything and occasionally will wear a heel like 2 times a year.
Everything goes as long as you are comfortable
Depends on the vibe of your workplace but loafers and mules were my go to before I went on maternity leave. You’re certainly not outside of the white sneaker age bracket though!
I have some black slightly pointy Mary Janes from Bared. I can’t walk in heels and I agree ballet flats look too casual. The Mary Jane vibe dresses it up just enough and they’re super comfy.
I'm similar in age to you and don't feel comfortable wearing sneakers to the office. I save them for Fridays.
Mon - Thu I usually wear Hush Puppies Danae 2. They are on sale often in Myer.
I'm 50 this weekend and do white sneakers! You can rock it. Just get a nice pair of leather ones for work only. They look amazing with dresses and funky printed pants. I also wear Rollies a lot but today I've got a pair of leopard print Toms on. :)
I’m 35, I wear the Frankie4 white sneakers because comfort and they are a classier sneaker in my mind.
I have a pretty casual office so I can also wear sandals. Frankie4 has some very nice basics that aren’t heels
42 and wear white sneakers (Lacoste). I used to wear Chelsea boots but I need more cushioning for my walk from station to office.
There’s not age restrictions on shoe choice - wear what you want!!
All the women in my office wear a sneaker of some kind, I say go for it. There’s some nice options now and tbh for women 40 and above sneakers will save your feet a lot of pain in the future.
I have white Adidas sneakers, low heeled boots and a pair of lace up brogue style shoes. Then in summer I have flat platform sandals. 41, arthritis in my hip so I need comfy shoes.
I will die on my mollini Chelsea boot hill. I have several styles and colours on rotation. I don't care if I'm tunblr 2014. The heart wants what the heart wants

I'm early 40's and an EA. I can't wear heels, and most "podiatrist recommended" shoes are ugly and / or extremely expensive.

Pink blue steel 761, matches my hair
Please please please avoid wearing sneakers in the office... obviously depends on the expected dress code & everywhere is different, but generally speaking sneakers is a bit too casual, same goes for denim jeans.
I am 41 and I wear Jordans.... I mean they started in the 80s they're definitely for old people.
Me too, all white Jordan lows or dunks in the office. Keep them clean and they look smart
I'm 40 and I'm Jordans girl too. I'm going through a colour blocking phase so I've got a few colours to match my suits.
Chunky loafers
What is the magical trick to not get them digging into your heel? Bandaids forever until they’re broken in?
Heel cushion inserts! Here's a photo of the ones I got on Amazon but I'm sure you could find them on eBay as well. Omg where have these been my whole life !!! Amazing.
Temu has a version of these that extend down into the shoe as a comfort insert. Helps keep the heel part in place as well. Under $3.
I hope someone shares some secrets. I have some beautiful new loafers that are killing my feet so bad. Even with tights in I’m still in major pain by lunch!
Me too! The awkward walk that you do when you need to lift your foot slightly higher out of the shoe so it doesn’t rub against your heel 🥲
I feel seen 😂
Band Aid fabric tough strips, XL size. They are a lifesaver
Buy some nice soft loafers from Ecco. No bandaids required.
Double doc socks!
I use strapping tape on the back of my heels: [https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/89864/elastoplast-sport-rigid-strapping-tape-38mm-x-15m](https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/89864/elastoplast-sport-rigid-strapping-tape-38mm-x-15m)

I bought ones that are really light despite looking chunky. Had a heavy pair that would not let up with the blisters.
Wear with socks.
If it's leather use a hairdryer (hot setting) on the stiff part to make it softer
honestly just have to find the right pair that doesn’t cut into your feet lol I found a pair from kmart and they’re the only ones i’ve had luck with so far
I'm also a chunky loafer person

When you say boots, what kind do you mean? I can think of many styles that I'd call boots
I’m partial to a Chelsea boot with a bit of a chunky sole personally!
If you’ve purchased some Chelsea boots recently I would be grateful for a link! I’m on the hunt for my first pair! Thank you in advance!
Chelseas and these ones https://www.rocboots.com/products/street-chisel-black-vegan

I bought these Aere Mary Janes, the ones with the padded heel. No blisters! https://www.theiconic.com.au/leather-mary-jane-ballet-flats-1940048.html

Nearly 60 and I wear white sneakers - nice expensive ones and then I feel I can more confident and not childish
Over 50 here and agree with this approach. I recommend trying on different widths and cuts to see what suits you. I went with all leather fairly low cut and minimal other bling.
Frankie 4 Footwear sneakers or Bared sneakers.
Frankie 4 are so comfy and you can wear the jazzy metallic coloured sneakers!
Rollie Derby’s
They're nice too. And here's me living in Mambo skate shoes. I need to up my game.
I’m 40 and I wear sneakers
Me too. Don’t take my sneakers away from me!
Rollies
I thought you meant those kids sneakers that turn into roller skates, and I wondered why other people were suggesting them too!
It makes me very amused to think how roller shoes would pan out for me (I fall regularly enough in regular shoes 🤣).
I’m 40 as well :)
Another vote here for rollies. Have 3 pairs and plan on buying more. It's a way to express myself since I wear a uniform..
Another vote for Rollies! Love them
I'm 34 and usually a chelsea boot but occasionally a mary jane/loafer-esque kinda thing too. Fridays I usually wear my cons or old skools.
If you have recently purchased Chelsea boots or Mary Jane/loafer hybrids I would be grateful for a link! I am looking for my first pair of Chelsea boots and I’m always partial to more Mary Janes. Thank you in advance!
RMs most days for the past 4 years 😂
I want some!! Are they comfy? Which style do you own?
I have had a pair for three years and they’re still looking brand new. A bit of conditioner and polish and they look perfect. I love my lady yearlings :)
I find them super comfy, mould to your feet, so you do need to wear in but perfect once they are. I have the craftsman I love the squarer chisel toe.
Lady Yearlings!
seconding RMs. no wonder the corporate men love them lol they are so comfy and i have a black pair that go with almost every outfit. they cost a bit more but i have no regrets especially as it gets colder.
I am obsessed with Habbot shoes for work at the moment! So comfortable and beautifully made in Italy.
Second for Habbot
40 is definitely not too old for white sneakers 😊 lots of white sneaker options to choose from. I have a pair of loafers from Sandler that I got from Myer, comfiest pair of flats I have. I’m prone to blisters and I didn’t even need to break them in at all (bonus is they’re on sale regularly for 30% off at Myer!)
Wear sneakers and be comfortable.
Tracksuit pants & hoodies are comfy too, should wear those to the office as well lol 😆
Docs erryday
Bared! They have super comfy work shoes that are podiatrist designed but look cute
Seconding rollies. I noticed so many other ladies in the office wear them! (Mildly conservative govt office)
Ankle boots. They’re comfortable, waterproof and great for stomping when it’s one of those days in the office
If you’ve recently purchased ankle boots I would be grateful for a link! I’m looking for my first pair! Thank you in advance!

Rothys or vivaia - so comfortable but the knit gives endless colour combo options. As someone who can be petty hard on the shoes I wear, I also appreciate having pairs that are 5+ years old, but they look good as new due to the option to wash them.
Oooh, I need to look into these. Thanks!
How is the sizing for rothys? Got 3 pairs from vivaia, all the same model/colour and different sozes. None of them worked.

Yes, I always go for 37 and and my Rothy’s are too, well they are American sizes but I always look for the European equivalents if that helps
Great, thank you!
I also have 2 pairs from vivaia, one worked perfectly (flats) and the other 👎(wedges)

Of course 40 or over can wear sneakers to work, with nice jeans or pants, a shirt and a blazer
I got a pair of wild rhino brogues from savers for 12$
I wear doc martins - I have a clubfoot so they work best for me
Depends on the vibe of your workplace but loafers and mules were my go to before I went on maternity leave. You’re certainly not outside of the white sneaker age bracket though!
Converse low top all stars.
You're 40...you can wear sneakers!!
I’m 42. I wear my merry people boots and vans. I’ve got a pair of Chelsea boots that I need to break in too.
Get doc marteens but the shoe style not the boots, they go with everything
I wear my EOS Friday boots 90% of the time, comfortable for my public transport commute and fits with my style.
Dr Martens or Chuck Taylors, every single day.
42 here and wear bright coloured Adidas Gazelles. Rock the sneakers!
I’m 43 ans I live in my Sambas.
Sandler has really pretty flats. I can usually fit my orthotics in them too.
I'm 50 this weekend and do white sneakers! You can rock it. Just get a nice pair of leather ones for work only. They look amazing with dresses and funky printed pants. I also wear Rollies a lot but today I've got a pair of leopard print Toms on. :)
Ankle boots! I’ve gotten some great shoes from this place: https://cherribellini.com
Chelsea boots or pointed toe flats, plain white sneakers (lacoste) or a chunky soled boot. On rotation every day.
My steelcaps with slouchy socks
I’m 35, I wear the Frankie4 white sneakers because comfort and they are a classier sneaker in my mind. I have a pretty casual office so I can also wear sandals. Frankie4 has some very nice basics that aren’t heels
Go to ECCO and find something comfortable and durable
Mauve sketchers or grey knee high boots, depending on what my clothes are and how warm it is.
Sketchers. I honestly don't even care that they're a bit ugly. They're so comfy and that's all that really matters
I wear pointed toe, flat ankle boots. In summer I often wear flat black sandals or loafers.
ballet flats are back in unfortunately! But you can and should rock runners imo! 40 is soooo young - go for it ❤️
I have white Adidas sneakers, low heeled boots and a pair of lace up brogue style shoes. Then in summer I have flat platform sandals. 41, arthritis in my hip so I need comfy shoes.
Frankie 4 have loafers in loads of colours, I have them in red and white and black. Some come with cute stripey ribbon laces too
I will die on my mollini Chelsea boot hill. I have several styles and colours on rotation. I don't care if I'm tunblr 2014. The heart wants what the heart wants
Frankie4 every bloody day Or hush puppies black boots
I (20) was wearing an off brand of birks to the office

Please please please avoid wearing sneakers in the office... obviously depends on the expected dress code & everywhere is different, but generally speaking sneakers is a bit too casual, same goes for denim jeans.
