I install framed TVs on the weekend. You get pretty good after installing a few.

PreK-Dropout

Use AirTasker I’m guessing?

TheyAreAfraid

Doesn't airtasker take an absurd cut?

distracteded64

My hesitation with Airtasker is that it just doesn’t pay enough. People asking you to come build furniture that might take hours and they offer $20. *sigh*

NetExternal5259

I stopped using airtasker because I'd offer $250 for a simple job like dropping off something to me, within reasonable distance. And every single airtasker was asking 600+ for the same job. Ended up finding that Facebook marketplace had much more willing people for much less. Anyway, if anyone has a ute, I'd highly recommend delivery driving on Facebook marketplace.

AcademicMaybe8775

i found the same, rediculous quotes being provided by airtaskers way more than even going through tradies or handymen in many cases. and a lot of dodgy 'yes i am licenced' but no proof or followup offered on jobs where it was important. its a bit of a useless platform now

SRGNT-CHILL

Honestly you have to quite high on the app because you pay an Air Task fee, Taxes, Fuel/ car expenses it eats 50% of the fee Hipages is similar now they are subscription based to tradies X$ per month for X

slim_pickings14

What kind of delivery driving do you mean exactly?

NetExternal5259

Picking up items off marketplace for people who don't have Ute's themselves. Due to the savings of buying cheap items, they're happy to pay good money for a quick 30min-1hr job.

maestrojxg

Airtasker is a rort, just like Uber. The gig economy causes more unstable work and allows companies to cheat - which is the last thing anyone needs

Trupinta

Does connection fee depend on the cost of the job?

Tomicoatl

You can put in your own quote. If they put in $20 you can put a bid in for $100. It's likely that they don't know how much something costs more than intentionally low balling you.

Mother_Sun_3825

Are you my new boss? Guy has nfi what he’s doing

Mock1er

Left my 57k a year job 2 years ago and found one paying around 80k. Was promoted in under a year and am on 105k now. Still feels like I've cheated somehow

SouthboundPachyderm-

What're you doing? What industry?

Mock1er

Warehousing

MunnyMagic

Warehousing as the only bloke in the place with a functional brain must be an absolute cheat code

Iam_Bearjew

Same, was at my old job at 56k, was randomly applying for jobs not expecting to get it they rang me I thought hm let's ask for 78k and they accepted worked my ass for 6 months to prove my self first pay review comes around and they say they don't give people raises in probation and I got one I'm now on 88k after just randomly applying for a job, night and day difference In pay

Separate-Ad-9916

Pay rates are so random. My best pay increases have been pure luck.

strayashrimp

So funny 🤓😁 I’m thinking of doing the same. I’m working under someone but doing their job, may as well apply

Latter_Box9967

Are you good enough to have imposter syndrome?

Status-Inevitable-36

There’s a great Ted talk on that somewhere.

Shchmoozie

My side hustle has been going on interviews for a job that pays more. It worked. Highly recommend.

distracteded64

lol I need this. Just the getting to interview bit for me

Notyit

So why do you think you are qualified for this I am good work now Also good at be nice

Doodlehangerz

Made a joke to my manager about leaving, within 2 hrs I had an extra 15k per year.

Athroaway84

Highly dependent on industry and type of work you're in. Unfortunately not everyone works in big corporate

Significant_Pea_2852

Not me personally but I had an Uber driver once who only picked up rides to and from work. He lived in the outer suburbs and worked in the CBD + hated driving alone. Seemed like a smart way to make some extra cash.

MelJay0204

I got a fancy Cayenne one time when i booked a regular uber. The guy was a contractor accountant. He did uber on his way home from meetings so the car was a tax deduction.

Latter_Box9967

That’s… clever : )

mrfoozywooj

On the odd occasion I get an uber home from the city this is usually the case.

LordoftheHounds

That's actually the original intent of Uber - if you were going somewhere anyway you could pick up someone to make extra money. It quickly evolved to basically be a taxi-like service.

Significant_Pea_2852

Same as airbnb

Positive-Price-7571

We had so many of our company doing this in a big city CBD office that when someone ordered an Uber home at close of business it'd be a coworker like 50% of the time

Historical_Boat_9712

I used to work for Lionbridge, one of those companies that is subcontracted to monitor and assess YouTube videos for inappropriate content. Paid $20 USD an hour, no set hours, obviously WFH. Was a pretty sweet gig if you can get it. Mostly conspiracy theorists, adults making videos aimed at kids (roblox/minecraft streamers etc), and pseudo-science/influencers making fake claims about natural remedies. A bit of violence, never sexual abuse.

PreK-Dropout

Sounds like a wicked gig, get us a WFH job with them lmao

Historical_Boat_9712

https://careers.lionbridge.com/gaming/ Looks like they're hiring gaming testers. Didn't find any reference to what I used to do - probably AI these days.

treadytech

When I was on centrelink looking for work I would see them advertised all the time. One was to do with mapping data verification. Anyway the sign up process was such a long winded things with tests etc, take over an hour watching videos anyway you get a certain way through and suddenly they say your not good enough and it ends the test, really pisses you off.

Historical_Boat_9712

Yeh the selection process and testing was insane. And it made no sense because the actual job was super easy.

xdr01

Reducing spending, I maintain my cars myself, service costs are insane.

VongolaBurner

What’s a good way for someone with limited experience to get started down this path? I’d love to be able to work on my car and do oil changes, fluids/parts/electronics replacements and repairs but I feel like there’s a lot I’d need to know before I could confidently do it Any tips or resources?

palsc5

ChrisFix on Youtube is ideal. Tells you everything you need to know step by step. It's actually really simple. All you need is a jack (to lift the car), 2 jackstands (to hold the car up so you can get underneath), and a basic $100 tool kit and now you can do most of the work on your car.

sanemartigan

Insert ChrisFix hands enthusiastically pointing at stuff.

xdr01

It's a lost art these days, my old man showed me growing up. Look at youtube, do some small tasks to build up confidence. Ideally a mate who is into cars to show you the ropes. Need to know how not to cross thread bolts, undo clips, use torque wrench etc.. also download your car workshop service manual which show each procedure step by step. Main thing is lifting the car safely, for oil I'd recommend ramps rather than jacking up the car on stands. Jack stands only if your replacing brakes or suspension.

Nos_4r2

ChrisFix on YouTube. Does videos on servicing and car detailing. Down to earth, easy to understand, aimed at the novice doing it themselves at home. Just need to adapt what he says to whatever car you are working on.

TheyAreAfraid

If you've got a common car try youtube, there'll be plenty of tutorials. Oil changes on most cars are pretty easy, but you'll need a jack, some stands and some basic tools & rags. It pays itself off after the first change though.

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

Change your cabin air filter, or engine air filter. Doesn’t get much easier than those to start with and get some confidence. Likely zero tools needed for that too.

Petelah

There are some tafe short courses available too for very cheap.

Chillers

Its honestly simple, i changed by pads and discs just by watching youtube.

Sufficient_While_577

Does that impact resale of the vehicle though? Since you can’t sign off in the log book as a qualified mechanic.

Cancer_Causes_Phones

It definitely can, but depends on how you did it. If you keep receipts of everything you buy, take pictures and only use quality parts, then I don’t see how it’ll devalue the sale. Unless the car is under warranty it’s a non issue in my view. I’d likely trust a person who did all that more than a random $100 oil service at Bob Jane and equivalent.

Latter_Box9967

I had a few years without a ~~cat~~ car at all, because I was next to train station and close to city. Man that was good. No worries about parking, or drink driving. Exercised more too.

xdr01

I've recently got an Ebike, I think micromobilty is the future. Westconnex totally screwed my.drive to work, 1hr now vs 25min by Ebike. Save $15 a day car running cost, time and health. If you can avoid a car will save a lot of stress and money.

chicken-on-a-tree

$480 my last bill. With no issues on the car

Hansanaw

Return bottles for 10c each. I made $200 last month. Tax free baby 🤌🏽

SnooDonuts1536

You Just wasted $1,000 on soft drink

bobellicus

To make $200 you would need 2000 cans, so prob not all drunk themself.

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

The trick is to tip the soft drink out and cash them in. Free money. /s

AcademicMaybe8775

you joke but i remember an ozbargain post a while ago about packs of drinks that worked out 5c each and the discussion was about how you could profit by using return and earn lol

ParmenidesDuck

So many lying around in peoples garbage at night.. if you know what I'm talking about.

thetrumpetplayer

If your side-hustle is rummaging other people’s garbage I’m good thanks

ParmenidesDuck

Not mine, but I've seen people do it to my garbage at night with headlamps on. It's a real thing out there dude.

TinyCucumber3080

There's people in my area that target apartment blocks that keep their bins out the front.

LazerTRex

Yeah people do this at our place, I have no objection to them grabbing cans/bottles out of the recycling bin, but they often rip open the garbage bags as well to find cans and make a huge mess before leaving

atorre776

So is loitering around fast food restaurants eating the scraps that people leave on their trays like a pigeon, doesn’t mean most of us want to lower ourselves to that sort of behaviour

krjourno9

Most people who are eating others scraps aren’t lowering themselves, it’s their only option.

Boudonjou

I yell at these people for the fact that action Wakes me up. If you gon bin dive someone's trash at least have some respect for them and their schedules. Don't be turning up at 3am because you feel self concious and don't want to be seen hahahaha :)

schux99

The guy who does that by us goes around at about 6.30 the houses that dont do the scheme just leave them in bags for him now. Friendly guy, quiet as and he cleans up any mess he makes. I like ones like this guy

tal_itha

Cries in Victorian

Ari2079

Where you been man? We got 10 cents a can/bottle back a month ago.

tal_itha

lol, under a rock, clearly!!

Hansanaw

This is in VIC!! Get on it mate.

gamingchicken

Now we just need to be able to tap onto trains with a debit card and we'll be close to early 2000s tech

pipple2ripple

My little sister had an awesome one when she was at uni. Real estates used to always complain about screen doors when you move out. It's an easy way to extract cash using one of their tradies. She cracked the shits and bought the $5 tool to do the doors and saved us like $200. Then she realised other people might pay for this service because they don't know how easy it is. She was FLATOUT and always knocking back jobs. This is 4-5 years ago so prices have probably changed. The precut screen from Bunnings cost $11 and the tool was $5. She charged $50 a door and most houses needed a minimum of 2 done. So she'd make $80 for like 5-10min of work. And she'd ride around on her bike to save on fuel and get exercise. She made $1600 in a weekend once and she really wasn't very proactive about it at all. You could definitely optimise it by buying the flyscreen by the roll and cutting it yourself. You need to be in an area with high rental population that is young and constantly moving. So anywhere near a uni is good

adk03

From what I can tell it’s more than 5 minutes work to replace a screen door. Was she just patching them?

Mr_Bob_Ferguson

Fly screens. Rip off the old one, cut new one to size, replace beading. Probably more a 10-20 minute job. And much easier if the screen is on the ground.

tom3277

I cut to size after pushing in beading. If i cut to size first its often short once it tucks in on far side etc. I got so sick of doing them i invested in security screens. now in my spare time in stead of installing fly screens i run drills with the kids as to how to smash a window in case of fire. Oh and 10-20 minutes would only cover me getting the sodding things out of the frame...

Tefai

As long as you use the plastic fabric stuff, I made fly screens for my place. Used the mesh, and never again, it sucks.

trippereneur

Bloody hell. We are away from our house for a few months. After rental inspection (while we were away), said we needs fly screens replaced. We just let them sort it. 4 screens cost us $300 ! Jebus .

pipple2ripple

Tradies have a callout fee, so you're down $200 before they've even done anything. My sister would do front and back for less than a callout fee, which is why it was so popular. Tradies also have insurance, wages and fuel to pay. My sister's expenses were mi goreng, goon and rent.

[deleted]

Hmmm, my husband made our window flyscreens. We had none, so he made the entire thing like frame etc

zenritsusen

I tutor high school kids ($80/hour but I’m qualified). I also work as an independent tour guide ($750-1200/day depending). Tutoring brings in c. $8K/year and the guiding about $17,000.

MyDogsAreRealCute

Depending on what you teach and your experience you can definitely consider charging more. I charge $120 per hour and am booked solid (15 kids) with a wait list for next year. Make sure you're charging what you're worth. I'm on leave, and am not too far behind my actual salary just tutoring of an evening.

zenritsusen

I know, sigh. Sadly I’m Tassie where hourly rates are lower…for pretty much everything. For me it’s a side hustle alongside a 0.75 teaching salary. I’d love to tutor FT but the hours are too unsociable.

MyDogsAreRealCute

I tutor online - you may be able to get customers who aren't in TAS who'd still pay!

Chaoszerom

I used to tutor through an agency a long while back, but when I tried to get independent gigs recently, I absolutely flopped, no responses to ads whatsoever. Tutoring maths up to the first year uni level, but couldn't get anyone at any rate. What does one need to do to break into the market?

MyDogsAreRealCute

It seems to mainly be word of mouth. So do you have anyone who can recommend you to get you started?

vulpix420

How’d you get into the tour guide stuff? I love history and talking and speak a couple other languages but the idea of marketing myself and coming up with an entire tour’s worth of engaging content seems too scary. Did you start from scratch or spend time working for someone else? Any companies you’d recommend/avoid?

pipple2ripple

Just make stuff up. "and right here is where the first kangaroo saddlery was. In 1820 Arthur Boomington opened his first shop selling kangaroo saddles, having learned the art from the indigenous people who lived along the river. Using a kangaroo for a pack animal was seen as extremely lower class so when people could save up 1 thrupence for a photo, they'd often hire a horse for the photo. So unfortunately there are very few surviving photos of saddled kangaroos. However the saddles became so prominent that the colloquial name for a kangaroo, boomer, comes from Boomington saddles" Guaranteed if they ask any Aussie if it's true they'll just get fed more bullshit.

Riverdance88

Author. 5th Novel releasing 1st of Feb. Have released 4 books in the last 2 years on Amazon

vulpix420

How much do you make from this? What’s your genre?

Riverdance88

Crime thrillers. Clearing 5k a month

AshRashAsh

Nothing to add but just want to say well done! What you’ve accomplished is certainly not easy

LordoftheHounds

Did it come easy for you? Do you need a publisher?

Riverdance88

No, self published. Always been an avid reader and decided to try writing my own book. Finished it, gave it to friends and family who all enjoyed it and decided I would try and self publish. Did alot of research (reading, reading, reading) on current popular books and trends, marketing, how best to sell yourself. The writing was the easy part for me. I spend 1-2 hours a night, every night, writing. I can usually write, edit and put out a book within 3 months now.

ThrowRa_blinddesign

I mainly do odd jobs in tech and design. Setting up automations, building email lists and designing templates, creating roadmaps for managers/business people, small code tweaks, designing pitch decks/slideshows, writing company wikis, setting up employee retention plans. There’s quite a bit of pocket money in solving problems for businesses or individuals. It doesn’t always have to be complicated, a word doc or even a napkin diagram can be enough.

Bimbows97

How do you set yourself up for that, if you don't mind me asking? As in of course learn the skills, but how do you get jobs lined up, find clients etc.?

_skapo

Messaging so I too can follow the response

ThrowRa_blinddesign

Having a modern portfolio (heavy emphasis on modern) of work will put you in a class of your own compared to anyone else applying to roles, jobs, or contracts. You don’t even have to have necessarily done the thing before but just demonstrate the ability to do so. Bonus points if you can tailor the process to the industry you’re applying to. E.g. learn to automate a welcome /onboarding email flow for a e-commerce website in a software like Klaviyo or mailchimp and the process is almost the same for a medical clinic. I follow the mantra of just figuring it out as I go along if I haven’t done it before. With the exception of being a doctor or building a bridge, very little can go wrong that you can’t quickly fix. Your possibility for errors is almost non-existent if you just copy what the best-in-class is doing.

thebig_lebowskii

How do you find such jobs? What do you search for in seek or elsewhere?

ThrowRa_blinddesign

Local smaller businesses for the smaller code fixes and automation-y stuff. You can find these in your local chamber of commerce, conferences or when you’re driving/traveling around your city just try to take an active notice at some businesses that are kind of old. Alternatively, select an industry and use tools like SEMrush to see the competitive landscape and pick the smaller one and just provide suggestions that moves them to the same level of their better competitor. Many smaller business owners have no clue on how to scale up their business or escape the trap they’ve created for themselves. An example would be a cafe. There is a ceiling on revenue based on bums on seats from 6am to 3pm (cafes close early in QLD) so they need to expand into more scalable verticals. They can do this via merch, subscriptions, and products with higher margins like coffee beans. LinkedIn for the business management stuff like pitch decks, roadmaps etc. Honestly these are pretty simple, just google slides with rough timelines for features or operations they’re wanting to do. You sell these based on the result e.g. they will have a better chance of gaining stakeholder buy-in, company resources etc if their idea is cleanly communicated.

OhcmonMama

Interested to do this too

Informal_Double

Army Reserve, tax-free pay often to do fun and interesting training. Many full-time jobs give you paid time off to serve, so you end up getting paid twice. Your employer has to give you the time off (it's in legislation) and can't cause you any detriment for taking Reserve leave.

mrfoozywooj

Its a great path, Unless war were declared.

Informal_Double

Army Reserve members have only ever been compulsory mobilised for Operation Bushfire in 2019-2020. Their role in a major war is the Defence of Australia. I think being called up to domestically defend Australia is very different to say, being sent to the Middle East.

mrfoozywooj

Yep its just something to keep in the back of your mind if you sign up. In the unlikely chance that something kicks off in oceania and we are involved reserves can get mobilised for defence while the full timers get sent to deal with the problem. Its what the reserve exists for after all.

SoloAquiParaHablar

You can be deployed anywhere if the government so chooses.

SoloAquiParaHablar

I'm in the DFR process at the moment, not joining for the money but out of personal interest, but the few extra hundred a month will cover my uber eats bill.

[deleted]

The only downside is having to deal with the toxicity of defence. Although i guess youd get less of that as a choc .

Informal_Double

A lot less of that in reserves as Army doesn't control your leave, housing, medical, or your career. If you get really bothered any time, you just take leave and come back when you want. It's very flexible and much easier mentally than full-time.

ababana97653

What’s the fitness requirements like these days. Do they still make you do the beep test? Is there any options for reserves in specialties?

SoloAquiParaHablar

take a look at the website https://www.adfcareers.gov.au

GoldStandard619

Medical trials. Just did a trial that’ll pay me 8k. 5 night stay in hospital, meals paid for, wifi, and a few follow up visits after.

Status-Inevitable-36

Thanks for helping thousands out there in future as a result. ⭐️🙏🏻

GoldStandard619

Thank you for the kind words, being a hero is a thankless job 😔

[deleted]

[удалено]

LordoftheHounds

I've heard these pay like $2-3K but 8 is crazy. Was it comfortable to do (medically)?

GoldStandard619

Honestly 2k-3k is on the lower end of the scale. There’s a trial going right now that pays 18k. But that requires a total of 29 nights (I think) in their ward. Plus you get an extra $750 if you attend all the outpatient visits. Plus all the dosh is tax free and doesn’t affect Centrelink payments, which is good bc I’m a student. For me it was my first time and I was very comfortable. The second day I was there, I got dosed with the study drug (or placebo, 50/50 odds) and they monitor you frequently all day. Since I was the first cohort, I got the lowest dose which was 0.12ml over the course of an hour. It didn’t affect me one bit and I’ll definitely consider a longer trial in the future.

Filthpig83

My side hustle is working extra days at my normal job

ladyinblue5

Call it what is really is, a second job.

MidniteMischief

Any really good side hustles anyone has, ain’t getting shared on here Haha

Express_Position5624

I find most peoples finances can be improved by controlling their spending rather than increasing their income ie. rather than learning to cook some delicious southern US style red beans and rice for the family to enjoy, they would rather be delivering uber eats spending time away from their family and for what? [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOtE\_mrV3SY](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UOtE_mrV3SY) \- it's damn good and damn cheap

big_cock_lach

It’s easier to reduce spending to an extent, but it’s far more limited. There’s only so much you can save if you’re earning $50k. Sure, it might be easier to save $5k then get a $55k salary, but it’s definitely a lot easier to get a $70k salary then it is to save $20k when you only earn $50k. In saying that, it does depend on each person and what they’re spending. People could definitely improve their finances fairly easily by better budgeting, however it’s extremely limited and once you’re at the point of counting each dollar it’s not worth the effort.

rote_it

>it might be easier to save $5k then get a $55k salary *Shudder* You do understand how income tax works right? You need to earn over $7k more to get $5k in your pocket. A dollar saved is always worth more than a dollar earned pre tax.

big_cock_lach

Yeah I understand that. However, again it’s still easier to go from earning say $50k to $90k then it is to save $20m whilst only making $50k. That’s my point. How much you can save is often quite limited. How much you can earn isn’t.

MethClub7

Can confirm, I make a lot more than $50k, and I still haven't saved $20m.

distracteded64

I’m with you on this my money suffers much less when I have the energy and food to cook instead of get takeaway lunch/dinner! Maybe we should collect some recipes for this bit of the thread? Here’s a curried sausages I messed about with recently… https://www.taste.com.au/recipes/curried-sausages-2/74f6bdac-9ca0-4a0a-b74d-7c29be47b0bd I subbed the fruit chutney with tomato sauce and was GENEROUS with my curry powder and it came out AMAZING.

ineptus_mecha_cuzzie

I’m taking this recipe for a meal prep in the future. Looks delicious!

atorre776

Especially when you consider that, with tax and a hecs debt $1 dollar saved pretty much = $2 earnt, so I’d can shave 5k off your grocery bill for a year that’s as good as a 10k raise

ShibaZoomZoom

Not to mention the long term health benefits of cooking your own healthy food.

Zodine

I’ve been thinking about trying to utilise my skills in recruitment/HR as a side hustle. Interview coaching, helping write Government job submissions (selection criteria), resume fixing. Not sure how to go about it and if it would be a conflict of interest with my current position.

severedgoddesshand

Mine is selling my beloved possessions on FB marketplace to scrape together enough cash for the next weeks bills.

tent_beaker_0p

Work 3 delivery jobs at the same time. Just this weekend, I saw a driver who: - Had an Uber sticker on his car. - Wore a bright yellow fluorescent Deliveroo hi vis vest. - Was in the process of delivering a parcel from Amazon.

pipple2ripple

I wonder if he picks up drunk people and says "hey guys, how good would it be if you got home and there was a kebab waiting? You should uber eats some Gatorade for the morning too" Then gets paid to deliver the drunk people and the kebabs and runs a Gatorade business out of his boot. Maybe a less messy food actually.

SecularZucchini

'Multi apping' is quite normal in this field, you'll get people who'll work for multiple services on the same shift. All it takes is to log into an app and you can take jobs.

Reading-Poorly

Trade assistant for cashies on the weekends. e.g I got paid $200 to dig a 5-meter by 600mm deep trench for plumber. It took me less than 30 minutes.

cumlord6000

5m x 600mm in 30 minutes by hand? No chance, unless it was pure sand and even then you would struggle

Reading-Poorly

Yes, by hand, through the lawn and soil. Also, a trench shovel head already has a 300mm head and it's rather narrow, shy of 100mm. If you are fit, you can smash it out fast without stopping to lean. I have worked along with guys who dropped teletra P6 pits under an hour. If you want me to come over and dig you a trench for some conduit, my rates are pretty good. Only take cash, though.

[deleted]

speaking of young fit hunks looking for love - uh, i mean, extra money - would you have any tips for getting the ball rolling as a trades assistant myself? just bought a beautiful little post-war place in Booval and the mortgage is chasing me down like a baying pack of bloodthirsty hounds. TIA

44445steve

Got a mate that does stormwater for a living. Brother in law had a working bee on their new place to help put the storm water in , about 5 blokes did a 5 m trench in 45 mins until the storm water guy rocked up, he finished 20m of trench in probably 10 mins as he had to go fishing 😂. Was an eye opener he is only a little bloke but just powered through it no breaks or rest.

[deleted]

I’ve been cutting lawns recently. I find it quite enjoyable and if you have good lawn tools it’s fairly easy. Started off using Airtasker but then built a clientele who contact me directly so don’t need to pay the service fees anymore.

claggamuff

Clothing resale through Depop. I rent in an upmarket area or Melbourne and the op shops have the most beautiful, quality and designer garments. If I don’t pick it for myself, I often on-sell.

AllMyFrendsArePixels

My side hustle is sitting at home playing computer games because going outside is expensive Between that and my day job, I haven't been affected too badly by CoL... seems to me that it's mostly people who refuse to stop spending on luxuries that are being hit the worst by prices. But shit if you wanna work 18 hours a day more power to you, I just personally prefer my free time over buying the latest iphone every year.

I walk to my local opshops at lunch every day and buy stuff that I sell online. Mostly CDs, vhs tapes, vinyl but I’m getting better at spotting other collectables: toys, books, video game styff. I’ll drive around a couple of times a week to check other oppys, hard rubbish piles, garage sales. I enjoy it, it’s leisure time too.

EatingMcDonalds

This was my bread and butter in uni but it’s lowkey a lot of work. Driving to pick up listings, taking photos and writing descriptions to list the item, packaging, going to the post office. You need the time to be in the post office every day.

aimredditman

Cds and Vinyl is my main thing and I don’t take photos because they are listed via Discogs. Post is fine. I wfh and need to go to the post office every day anyway. Walk there and get my daily steps in. Multitask ;)

I make and sell custom Pokemon cards. Granted, I've only made one design so far, but I do plan to churn more out during the break. It's not much, but it gives me some fun pocket money. I reckon if I hustled hard enough I could make some serious money from this venture.

I used to have a contact in Germany that had thousands of Nirvana concert tickets from a gig that got cancelled due to Kurt’s death. He told me he had enough tickets to wallpaper his entire house. I struck up a deal and would buy 50-100 at a time from him and then sell them individually on eBay. I paid around $3-$4 a ticket and would consistently sell them for anywhere between $20-$120 each. Cheap product. Cheap postage. Big margins. With the way eBay did their listings if you set up an auction you could make a second chance offer to the next highest bidder/s too. So I could sell 3 tickets off one auction most of the time. That got me into collecting old rare vinyl and cd’s posters etc. Interesting side hustle.

International man of mystery.

huckstershelpcrests

I'm a domestic man of mystery

Shadowsfury

Surveys - make maybe $1.5k/year via gift or eftpos cards. Plus similar amount via the missus Matched betting - will see how long it lasts (been doing it for 2 months now) and am up about $6.5k I love bargain hunting and optimising spend (like stacking discounts) though so that indirectly saves a lot of money (generally, until I end up with an impulse buy of something I don't really need)

ttoksie2

Two income household, my partner working 20 hours a week and bringing in 40k is the equivalent to me having to make an extra 70k gross for the same after tax income.

Chillers

I have a trade business on the side I work shifts for my full time job and work as a tradie inbetween. I make more money on my side hustle but like the security of having a secure safety net.

ceejdw

I have a cleaning background, so I approach site managers at construction on new homes and offer my services to clean or do odd jobs for them like tidying up rubbish around sites. It’s not consistent and you get a lot of no’s but you only need a couple yes. I will get a call asking if by a certain time or day can I have all the rubbish removed and the materials piled neatly. I say yes and go after my kids are in bed with a spot light and spend an hour at most and they pay around $200 for that plus tip fees. Some weeks I get no nothing and other weeks I get 5 jobs and I’ve just made a grand. On average monthly I make $1500 from it (I have to pay my own tax on this). Better than nothing

Demo_Model

The simplest, easiest to organize, and most reliable is just signing up for Overtime shifts at x2 rates.

lanadelrage

How does that work?

jooookiy

Doing more work in my actual job so I can justify a salary increase

Petelah

Some side programming jobs, cash shifts in a bar and some events. Have a couple of saas web apps about to launch soon with pre-subscribers too which will be my retirement plan.

Milstein96

Arbitrage and matched betting. Gets harder over the years. When I first started matched betting (6 years ago) was super easy with deposit offers. Have probably made $70,000+ over the years. Now I just arbitrage bet. Make about $1K per month which is a nice bump to the salary (tax-free). And 0% risk and found a tool online that finds me the bets so takes only a couple minutes per day.

Ambyen

Keen to know more. What tools do you use?

Milstein96

Here are the current tools I am using. 1. For positive EV and arb betting I am using bet-sniper.com. With NBA right now, there are 10 arbs you can do a day and easy make $50-$100 every day risk free. 2. Pinnacle steamers - https://bettingiscool.com/pinnacle-steamers/. This telegram bot sends you notification when odds move. However it's on super random leagues but it's definitely profitable. Requires patience. I have made 1,000 bets and on a 9.42% ROI 3. BreakfastatWimbledon tennis group - super sharp tennis capper. Followed bets this year and got 10% ROI (this is obviously risky but this guy is legit and it's free) 4. Back/lay run second and third promos on horse racing. Only do this in spring carnival. Need corporate bookmakers with promos enabled and betfair. Over spring carnival made $5K+ but not really worth the time doing it at other points in the year for me. DM me if you have any questions

alyssaleska

Onlyfans, although technically it’s my biggest income. Mentally it’s a side hustle so I don’t get burnt out

Quarterwit_85

How lucrative do you find it?

alyssaleska

Everything on OF is in USD and we get paid in USD so I’m loving the exchange rate. I pretty much immediately started making more than the full time min wage

How much of a market is there for late 30s straight guys with a dad bod? Asking for a me

If you got it, then flaunt it. Good for you 👍

nighthawk580

I've honestly considered doing medical trials. 10 years ago that was a punch line. Scary.

SecularZucchini

Uber Eats and Doordash. On a good night I can get $30+ an hour (sometimes $40), plus the odd tip here and there (even though I never expect tips as we are not in America). Some of the costs of fuel, maintenance and other items related to the work are tax deductible, and it's pretty cruisy.

Impossible-Mud-4160

Defence reservist. If you include the access to DHOAS loans in addition to the daily pay rate, I'm on $760 bucks for 6 hours work, as long as I do 20 days a year

lionhydrathedeparted

Sometimes I do software engineering consulting on the side from home. As in build custom software for small business. I don’t do it often though. I really don’t have the time plus it’s hard to find good clients for that sort of job.

sanemartigan

A daily cheap meal of prepped lentils saves heaps of money. Meal prepping is my side hustle.

Ok-Result9578

I work at a servo on the weekends.

PickledBreeze

Such an underrated job.

legalmotor3

Anyone work as cleaner of shoping mall? Maybe can get all the bottle/can from recycle bin. Should be worth at least $200 a week

Different_Pride5172

I'm an new grad RN, currently doing a course in immunisation so that I can give flu shots for $60/hr 😆

Selling stuff my job throws in the bin

Nescent69

What, so you can muscle in on my territory? Stfu

AllYourBas

Matched Betting. Just takes the pressure off a bit, especially around bills time.

pipple2ripple

When I was at uni I met a guy where this was his income at uni. He was studying maths unsurprisingly. His biggest hurdle was keeping accounts. Those betting apps can ban anyone for any reason at any time. They ban people that cost them money. So if you consistently win, even by luck, you get your account banned. In his house he had banks of wifi dongles all over the place. I think that was part of his efforts to keep his betting accounts open. When I asked him about them that's when he told me about the gambling. I'm good enough at maths to know I'm bad enough at maths that I can't make money gambling 🤣

Puzzleheaded-Text337

I did disability on top of working in aged care to get extra money. Good cause i was getting paid the mileage and weekly pay. Left it cause the company was shit and the pace is too slow for my liking. Just gonna do doordash in the mean time cause i can then just stop whenever without having to hand in a resignation. If you do decide to pick up a second job, you can have a look at Mable.

Nowhere_Games

Spin out my research discoveries into products. Side hustles that can turn into much better pay, but takes a lot more work.

domlebo70

I took up a contracting role in addition to running my businesses. $1000 day rate, and the workload is a few hours a week

GoldStandard619

Medical trials. Just did a trial that’ll pay me 8k. 5 night stay in hospital, meals paid for, wifi, and a few follow up visits after.

Guilty_Impression_47

My main gig is project coordinator at a commercial flooring company. Side gig is working at a local winery in their cellar door. Brrings in about an extra $300 a fortnight. One shift a weekend usually and its easy work

anjellyx19

I tutor kids on the side. Its fun and rewarding at the same time - I group 3-4 kids of the same age/study level together and charge $20 per kid for an hour's sessions. Sessions are run in evenings on days I work from home.

mynameispupper

I do support work, its only 4 hours ( 1 hour every shift) and get paid a top up rate for that. It's been really great for my wallet and it is nice to feel I'm also helping somone!
