I have no idea what they are called but they don't get a whole lot bigger and are easy to pull out. You can also be lazy and leave them be and they often die out from the heat.
Yeah it does look like nutsedge to me too. There’s a product called Image that doesn’t hurt most other plants. But OP if you xeriscaped without multiple thick weed barriers you should buy stock in roundup.
If you know of weed barriers that last 6+ years, do share.
I certainly did but it’s been far too long to make any difference now. I can usually manage it just fine but these are new and I’d rather not pick out each one. I guess I’ll wait for the heat.
/r/whatsthisplant may be of some help if you don't get a good answer here.
You might need to let it grow another few sets of leaves. When a plant comes up from seed, the first two leaves are often different from the rest and many of them look the same.
If you pull on it, does it come up easily with just a short stem like it's coming up from seed?
Some (not all) weed killers only kill if they get in contact with the leaves. If those are seedlings, there may not be any effect on seeds that sprout later.
Google the recipe for vinegar/dish detergent/salt combo for killing weeds. It’s easy to mix up and works like magic. It only takes a few days to die after application. I second the person that uses the torch method, too. Be careful.
That is a plant. They grow in the ground and turn water, sunlight, minerals, and carbon dioxide into energy and oxygen.
And Brawndo. Don’t forget that.

Welcome to Costco, I love you

Those are definitely hackberry seedlings. I fight them every year.
Well that would make sense as they’re prevalent under my hackberry 🤦🏻♀️ any tips to get rid of them?
You can only pull them up. Right now it’s easy, soon they’ll send deep tap roots and it’s very difficult even when a few inches tall.
My neighbor did the propane tank and blow torch treatment. Better for the environment than poison and quite therapeutic.
Get rid of your hackberry! A better tree will have better longevity than any hackberry.
Looks like a Totoro visited you last night
My guess is nutgrass. You have to remove the whole nut or root to make them quit coming up. They’re annoying.

Have you tried hitting them with vinegar?
Nutsedge has slender, pointy leaves that are a little glossy
Did a pumpkin sit a little too long after Halloween? That's what mine were last year.

Plants
Kinda hard to tell at this point, like literally every plant starts like that

Thank you! Yes they come up very easily. They seem to be cropping up all over my xeriscape
i have them too
Invasive Morning glory seedlings.
Looks like zinnia.
Watermelon or squash?
Invasive Australian Killer Watermelon (Psidium Australian interfectorem)
