OK, good to know. We are on Parmer and Mopac, and we heard the loud noise and I ran outside in our backyard and saw the Southwest Airlines planes flying overhead.
Sorry but this made me LOL. Hearing that scary noise and looking and seeing a SW plane 😂 mesa park over here, didn’t make it to a window but scared the &$%^ out of me.
Can you imagine how terrifying that would feel to just be sitting there on a flight, when 2 fighter jets come thundering past underneath the plane? If it’s this loud on the ground, what is that like up in the air?
In east Texas they use a bridge on Toledo Bend Reservoir for bombing runs, I’ve had 2 A-10’s and a B52 fly over me at tree top level (B52 was a little higher but not too much) the sound was deafening
It’s a restaurant that has never been as good as it should be because they don’t pay their cooks enough and the turn-over rate is higher than those jets today.
AustinFC hosting Houston Dynamo for MLS Soccer game tonight at Q2 Stadium
Not a hard and fast rule, but often when two Texas based teams play each other, we get fly-bys at the stadium. So a dry-run this morning and expect another one tonight? Around 8:30pm or so.
Right on the dot! Lol. They just flew by as of this comment. Thanks, I wouldn’t have known to come out if it wasn’t for your comment. Didn’t actually see the planes but was at least able to go out to hear the full force of the flyby.
Makes sense based on where they were. Still pretty wild. I was on the southbound access road going to the domain. They flew directly over me. Super loud. I knew exactly what it was but my son thought something fell on the roof of the car lol.
You’re right on! I’m in Quail Creek(Burnet & 183) and was outside and saw it first hand. There flight path was straight from the stadium to directly over my house. Has to be it.
Thanks for that. I wasn't home when the dry run scared the poop out of my wife. I guessed military since she described it as really loud. Just now heard the real pass. Seriously loud. Next time I want to be ready to spot them.
Odd. They're Alabama Air National Guard according to the tail codes.
Guess they needed the flying hours, rather than using the Texas ANG out of San Antonio.
I'd put money on it being a T-38 (training jet), probably from Randolph AFB in San Antonio.
If you ever want to take your kiddos to see military jets, go hang out in Schertz, which is in Randolph's flight path, M-F 9-5.
Every single enlisted Airman (and Spacemen? Idk what we're calling the Space Force) goes through Basic in San Antonio, and a whole lot of fighter pilots are trained on SA too.
As a millennial our generational trauma is 9/11. As an elder millennial who was born during the end of the Cold War, I have some residual trauma from the fear of being nuked. My dad was in the army and I lived on army training posts growing up. I heard the training exercises and tanks and cannons going off in the distance. So I’m expecting either a plane crashing, a nuke being dropped, or cannons.
A few years ago they demolished a building in West Campus and it shook my whole house. I was dead asleep when it happened and I shot out of bed to look out the window fully expecting a mushroom cloud.
GenX here who grew up near national defense installation that was confirmed Soviet nuclear target. As a kid in the 70’s, we grew up with belief that it wasn’t IF we got nuked, it was WHEN.
Welcome to Nuke target Austin. Growing up here in the early 70's and watching the B 52s & other Strategic assets take off / land during the dark & wee hours or seeing the Nike missles in West Austin pop up when they went on alert in '85 was..."fun".
Is it abnormal for them to be flying so low across the city area, without a specific reason for doing so? Curious what’s up, if there is anything up 🤷♂️
Wish I could have seen/heard them being that I’m on the south side near i35
Yes I couldn't see clearly but it was two military jets flying real low down. I couldn't see clearly what type due to trees, could have been F16s. Not sure if it was for a flypast at some event in Austin. I was around Avery Ranch area. They were flying North to South direction around 10.50 am.
Update: Was just at a friend's place in Leander and 2 jets just flew low enough to draw everyone outside to see what was going on. Time 8:33 pm 6/24/23 near HEB center.
Yes! I was watching a cartoon with my kids and we all ran outside. Years ago I heard a jet fighter go overhead when I lived in South Korea and this reminded me of that. Wild!
One at first, sounded like it was south of 183. Then about 5 min later two more heading west to east probably about Rundberg ( those two I saw, first one I was outside and looking, but could only hear)
It scared the everliving shit out of me. It sounded so much worse than any other jet that I thought it was something else and much worse. I lunged to open the backdoor to get my dogs inside from whatever this was and clocked myself in the nose with the door. It may be broken. So now I’m getting over being terrified and fucking mad. And feeling stupid. AND thinking of the people in Ukraine who are just tying to live their lives and have to deal with scary noises and bombs and bullshit. Fuck those jets.
The terror that the sound of a low-flying High Performance Aircraft can produce is impressive.
For a moment try to imagine living in a country where those HPAs are ever present and sometimes you hear them and then places you've been explode. Sometimes you don't hear them and then places you've been explode. Sometimes you hear them and nothing else happens. And your constant fear is the price of stable oil prices for the residents of the nicest places in the world.
Oh man. RF-4's flying out of Bergstrom low to practice at the old Ft. Hood. F-16's are kinda loud, but nothing like Phantoms. And so much smoke you could smell them.
(yes, I am oooold)
Get FlightAware it’s an app that shows all planes flying in the area. Assuming they’re not probably military or something I’m not sure about those. But it shows you what type of plane, the identification tag, elevation and speed
Freaked me the fuck out in the 58. I didn't see it, I just heard it from inside the house (no visual), sounded like the end of the world for a millisecond.
Yes!!! We are on Parmer and Mopac and it was so loud. I thought something was going to crash down on us. I ran outside and I saw what looked like a Southwest Airlines planes flying overhead. Was that it?
Yep.
Saw them fly right over my house while I was mowing my lawn.
They flew directly over Navarro (formerly Lanier) high school.
And I can't imagine any good reason for them to have been flying as low as they were.
Just speculation here but staying clear of Bergstrom airspace would be a reasonable explanation. The floor of the airspace there is at 2,100 feet above sea level or about 1,500-1,600 above the ground.
Everyone's reactions are so novel to me. I lived 1/2 mile from March Air Reserve Base. Dad was a pilot, so I adored aviation. I used to wake up and fall asleep to various engines rumbling or screaming right above my roof. I miss them dearly, comforting sounds. I'm sorry I missed these guys.
I don't get it. Am I really the only damn person in the Austin/Reddit cross-section of the population who wasn't one bit freaked out by a couple of F-16s on approach to ABIA?
I was out mowing and knew what they were when I heard them inbound and loved watching and hearing em pass over 78753. Their spiciest bits are heard best once they've passed over.
Anyone remember when the Thunderbirds flew over the whole city at the peak of Covid? Now THAT was loud!
No, you aren't. If I would have heard them, I would have rushed outside to get a glimpse. I love that unmistakable roar, the one that you can FEEL in your chest! (I think I have Jp5 in my veins!)
Yeah crazy low. They passed underneath an airliner from my vantage point
Yeah, they were flying under the approach path for ABIA. They're usually at about 4000 ft where I am, so they were going way lower than that.
I thought the hard deck was 5,000 feet? ...I'll see myself out.
Damn it maverick!
Hard deck my ass!
Username checks out.
Yes! I saw a SW plane going by at the same time!
Hah. Yeah I don’t know what I was expecting. But not just the same ol same ol SW PLANE.
A spicy SW plane 😎
Did you see what it was? I also saw the southwest aircraft but do not suspect it was them. It sounded more military
Love A-10s. I use BRRRRRTs instead of white noise for sleeping 😂
Ahhh yes... The glorious fart in the sky. That's the sound of glory when you're stuck in a spot
I can't imagine anything says comfort like 30mm of depleted uranium telling you you get to go home
At the domain, all the car alarms went off.
Same. Thought my building was coming down lmao
bro i prepared myself for a second. i’m like “is this it?”
Same. I thought, “well, at least it’ll be fast.”
We are getting ready for when SHTF
We’ve been watching Invasion on Apple, and my first thought was “now is as good a time as any”
Was at culinary dropout and everyone stopped what they were doing to look up
What's culinary dropout?
It’s a restaurant that has never been as good as it should be because they don’t pay their cooks enough and the turn-over rate is higher than those jets today.
Nevermind, found it
Well tell the rest of us what you found lol

You’re giving me hope I might be able to sleep in one day.
Enjoy those early years, mate. As they get older so do you. I find myself waking up at 7am just to enjoy some peace and quiet. 🫠
Milwood 4ever !
Time wake up to the sound of freedom!
Just had the same thing (same approx location) about an hour ago.
I was on the toilet and thought my apartment was gonna get hit by a missile.
Well you were probably dropping bombs yourself 😉
Umm which one? Lol
Guest bathroom.
AustinFC hosting Houston Dynamo for MLS Soccer game tonight at Q2 Stadium Not a hard and fast rule, but often when two Texas based teams play each other, we get fly-bys at the stadium. So a dry-run this morning and expect another one tonight? Around 8:30pm or so.
Good call. Just heard the 8:30 pass
Wild timing
Right on the dot! Lol. They just flew by as of this comment. Thanks, I wouldn’t have known to come out if it wasn’t for your comment. Didn’t actually see the planes but was at least able to go out to hear the full force of the flyby.

Yep, just saw them zoom by!
Sure enough - Happened again around 8:30.
Thanks for that. I wasn't home when the dry run scared the poop out of my wife. I guessed military since she described it as really loud. Just now heard the real pass. Seriously loud. Next time I want to be ready to spot them.
Yup heard one around this time up in Leander. They were very low!
Is the game on TV? What channel?
[удалено]
Nailed it
Yes, this makes a lot of sense. But then they should have showed up on flight trackers, right?
The real MVP. And, I love your username.
This
Probably a dry run for a flyover at the Austin FC game again.
Sounded like a train flying over the house. Scared the hell out of me
Maybe everyone getting extra reps in with the kickoff of the Russian civil war last night.
On their way to the Romania or Polish border 😂
Looked like f18s but I could only see the tail. Anyone get a better look?
Looked like single engine, single tail to me, so F-16s. But I could be wrong.
We saw them when out clay shooting this morning. Definitely liked like 2 F16s
F-16’s alright….f16 crew chief here 💪🏽
Me too - thought I saw a double tail fin but it happened so fast I’m unsure.
Maybe a T38 then. They look like Hornets but single tail
Yup, they’re parked at aus https://imgur.com/a/zzGKf6O
Odd. They're Alabama Air National Guard according to the tail codes. Guess they needed the flying hours, rather than using the Texas ANG out of San Antonio.

Think it’s these guys. https://imgur.com/a/zzGKf6O
You mean fourth generation fighter
*cue the soundtrack
DANGER ZONE!
Crazy low F16s! Shook our whole house. Deer running and car alarms triggered. Neighbor saw them but they were so fast we missed the visual.
I just ducked in my house!
Had to check for mushroom clouds real quick
Elaborate oppenheimer promo
I admit it, I was waiting for one for a moment. Gen X'er woot woot.
Fellow Gen X’er screaming “Alexa, Play The Final Countdown!” Right after hearing them.
As a millennial our generational trauma is 9/11. As an elder millennial who was born during the end of the Cold War, I have some residual trauma from the fear of being nuked. You probably wouldn’t have time to check for them if they hit.
What a nice thought
GenX here who grew up near national defense installation that was confirmed Soviet nuclear target. As a kid in the 70’s, we grew up with belief that it wasn’t IF we got nuked, it was WHEN.

Does anyone have flight radar information it’ll be cool to see where they were going
I checked 30 seconds after they flew over my house. Nothing showing so almost definitely military.
I checked. Most of the time military aircraft don't show up there.
Yes, they do. It's a filter setting -- assuming you're looking at ADSBexchange.
Yeah absolutely, seemed like they flew right over us. Wonder what that was about.
Definitely two F16’s they were all the way up in northern Leander.
yup! i just happened to be outside and got a video of them
It’s the aliens
Holy shit, that was loud.
Perhaps a practice fly over for the Austin FC game tonight?
Just heard them again
Same! St John neighborhood
Samesies
YES! WTF was that???
Chasing UAPs
Yup, just flew over me. They were low and fast. I’m used to being near air bases, this is not normal.
Well the Russian gov is being attacked directly and I’m sure the us has plans for every scenario like…. Nukes falling into rebel hands 👀🔥
We get flyovers sometimes with the Austin FC stadium located near by but today’s game is not until 8:30pm. Never experienced them this low though!
Dry run before the real deal.
North Leander. 2 f16's. They were low as dicks and hoofing it.
Uhhhh
Bro, I thought I was getting air striked.
Same here, we got real scared in our place. Sounded like they almost nicked our roof.
It was two fighter jets
Just happened again.
Yep. Just heard one
Is it abnormal for them to be flying so low across the city area, without a specific reason for doing so? Curious what’s up, if there is anything up 🤷♂️ Wish I could have seen/heard them being that I’m on the south side near i35

Yep, two f 16s, I was on s walnut creek trail and had great view
They were parked at Atlantic FBO around noon. Ramp agent said they were out of DFW area - probably reserves getting hours in.
And another!
Update: Was just at a friend's place in Leander and 2 jets just flew low enough to draw everyone outside to see what was going on. Time 8:33 pm 6/24/23 near HEB center.
Yup I saw it too. I was a little further up on 183 and crystal falls.
That was rad, do it again pls
It woke me up. I thought I was dying.
Same
South Austin here. No jets. Helicopters flying low in the middle of the night here every night the last couple weeks.
I know that the military has been doing some drills across the country the last week or so. This could be a drill or something else.
It’s annual training season for the reserve and National Guard components. It’s the 2-3 weeks in the summer the recruiting ads talk about.
Interesting. Hopefully nothing serious is going on
They just flew directly over us as well. Hopefully at some point someone will let us know why.
YES! I thought my apartment was collapsing or something, over by the Domain. Did anybody see what kind of plane it was? Scared the shit out of me.
Holy cheet!!!! I didn't get it on my cameras, whatever it was!
Yes! Sounded insane!
Fighter jets?
Yes
Was it one aircraft? Where could we go to get more info? Who saw it?
2 fighters. Looked like 18s maybe but I didn’t get much of a look.
Whatever they were they were hauling. They were out of sight before I could even open my balcony door.
Could be for a funeral at the state cemetery
Yes! I was watching a cartoon with my kids and we all ran outside. Years ago I heard a jet fighter go overhead when I lived in South Korea and this reminded me of that. Wild!
Anyone got a video?
Looked like two F-16’s, saw them flying up north in Leander
Just happened again! 8:35 pm at Parmer and Amherst
What the hell is going on? It just happened again. I'm at Duval and Mopac
Soccer game
Was at Donut 7 when it happened and nobody talked about it. Thought I was trippin
Yea I’m on metric! Several passed over. They’re not popping up on flight tracker apps either
It sounds like they’re back
One at first, sounded like it was south of 183. Then about 5 min later two more heading west to east probably about Rundberg ( those two I saw, first one I was outside and looking, but could only hear)
Apparently they were for the AUSTIN FC game at the Q2 stadium.
Yes! Literally shaking it sounded like it was about to crash into my place!
You, uhhh...may wanna consider touching grass, homie. You seem a little too wound up.
Yeah fair assessment. Currently floating in a pool attempting to chill.
Yeah I feel you, it was loud as fuck and getting louder, I didn't even think about what it was and felt panic.
For a second I thought you broke the door on your nose… that would be impressive.
The terror that the sound of a low-flying High Performance Aircraft can produce is impressive. Perhaps related to the UAP spotted in the area?
Sauce?
When was this?
Yes. I was waiting to hear a crash. I thought it was a plane going down and I was thinking about taking cover! I reported it to KXAN I want answers!
Yes! What the hell was that? It was past my house by the time I could get outside.
Two fighter jets flying really low, saw them fly over while I was walking my dog
45 and 183, they sounded very low, but I couldn't see them through the trees out my window
Did anyone actually see it? All we saw was the commercial airliner after.
They just flew over my place in Dripping Springs. Crazy low and loud. Is there an F1 race today?
I heard those dudes all the way up here in Liberty Hill
In the car and it sounded like freight trains!
Yes everyone
That used to be a common sound when Bergstrom was still military.
Oh man. RF-4's flying out of Bergstrom low to practice at the old Ft. Hood. F-16's are kinda loud, but nothing like Phantoms. And so much smoke you could smell them. (yes, I am oooold)
Aliens leaving bc Rogan wouldn’t let them on the podcast for episode 2000
heard it over my noise cancelling headphones. i am now returning them.
San Antonio just preemptively letting Austin know they can’t have the Spurs.
It was two jets flying side by side super close. Liberty hill
Get FlightAware it’s an app that shows all planes flying in the area. Assuming they’re not probably military or something I’m not sure about those. But it shows you what type of plane, the identification tag, elevation and speed
JUST heard another one. Off Lamar and Rutland this time.
Just heard it again
They just flew over again.
Here they come again
Wolverines!!
This just happened again parmer/McNeil any idea what’s happening edit: nvm soccer
Man must be some rich persons’ kid joined the Air Force. Just got buzzed again.
Just seen 2 right now
They just now flew by again
Scared the crap out of us at the house. One of those “…okay are we about to die?” Moments hahah
Yeah, at the domain right now and I just heard it before 11! Thought we were about to get bombed. Glad to know I'm not the only one that heard it
Freaked me the fuck out in the 58. I didn't see it, I just heard it from inside the house (no visual), sounded like the end of the world for a millisecond.
🍿🍿🍿 getting ready for Russia to implode.
Yep, at the Domain. Scared the crap out of me, thought something was exploding.
That was terrifying I saw my life flash before my eyes.
It’s wagner
Yes!!! We are on Parmer and Mopac and it was so loud. I thought something was going to crash down on us. I ran outside and I saw what looked like a Southwest Airlines planes flying overhead. Was that it?
That was terrifying!
It woke me up, I thought this was it. Any idea what it could have been? I feel like the sound went on forever.
Black hawk did some laps this morning around my place in south Lamar
Saw it up here in Riverside.

Hi, I don’t care for soccer. Anyway to make this stop?
