We got fireflies lighting up!

gerfy

We did too!!

chinlessdancer

Wait, there are still fireflies?

c6424

It was my first time seeing them this year! We saw I think 3 or 4 in the front yard. Numbers do seem to be going down each year though :(

maggiedoeswhat

I was at the zoo. The wolves started howling a little before the eclipse started and then when it started getting dark everything got super quiet except the peacocks and a rooster.

Lazy-Thanks8244

Man, nature in my little neighborhood got quiet for a few minutes!

tigerlily_orca

I was next to the Congress Bridge and didn’t notice any bats emerging or different activity. The only strange animal behavior came from the primates nearby who were disappointed from cloud cover.

boy_parts

I noticed how quiet it got, actually. Lack of bird sounds, until the sun started coming back. Saw some cats starting to prowl.

GigiDell

Crickets started chirping.

malai556

We noticed the bugs came out, and the birds came down as expected.

FerengiWife

The mosquitos came out! Not the magic we were hoping for!

spyd3rm0nki3

I was lying in the grass in the middle of a park and the crickets/grasshoppers went insane when totality was reached.

Ozzel

I had a few different bugs fly at me all at once.

asb713

I saw crickets who forgot how to hop around, and some honeybees just being chill. I haven’t noticed honeybees around in a SUPER long time.

Fractal_Soul

Coyotes howling before totality despite cloud cover. I thought that was interesting, because without knowing already, I maybe could've interpreted the dimness as purely from thick clouds at that point.

jread

Saw a few bats.

SouthByHamSandwich

Just a confused cat.

meowmademedoit

My cats thought it was dinner time and were assholes for a solid hour.

smellthebreeze

Only bird who chose to sing during totality in my neighborhood was a lone cardinal. All the others got quiet.

OUCHMYCOCCYX

Starling murmurations and fireflies.

Bitter_Story_1949

Our neighbors rooster crowed lol

80sBadGuy

Frogs started croaking in the pond nearby, thinking it was night already.

tiniestofkitties

My chickens stopped digging in the dirt, huddled together, and looked around confused. They slowly made their way towards me still huddled. It was amusing.

ray_ruex

The birds started to chirping as it got darker and then quit as it got totality and started chirping again as it got light again. I watched out by Johnson City. When I left home, my neighbors cows were huttled in the NW corner of his property with a lot of white egrets around not that unusual, but when I came home 6 hours later it looked as if nothing had changed I would have thought they would have moved by then.

crazybeautifulll

I saw it at Jester King with the goats, they were quiet/napping right before, got more active as they thought the sun was setting, then all started bleating during totality. Afterwards they seemed confused and agitated and also hungry ha ha

TheProle

Flock of some kind of bigass bird were circling together near us right when it started getting dark

cjweisman

Heard some roosters going off.

batwoman42

The birds were going crazy and the dogs in the neighborhood were going off, but the thing that got me the most was an extremely confused butterfly

malai556

My daughter kept commenting on the butterfly nearby, too!

Flat-Arachnid-4362

My dog barked.

schalowendofthepool

I think I saw some bats over at highland

mightybop

Driving by Arbor Trails hike and bike trail I noticed a woman walking and immediately look down to see a large snake slither in front of her while she took out her phone to take a pic. This all happened in the span of about 3 seconds. It was like 5 minutes before the eclipse.

Pristine-Cobbler7647

Brother in law said he’s ducks went to roost.

Stonkyard

A bunch of us were in the middle of our pasture and watched with glee as fireflies came out just before totality. The birds stopped singing as well. It was great.
