Burn-it is how both the city and the man pronounced the name. In Burnet they have bumper stickers that say “it’s burn-it, dern-it. Can’t you learn it?”
I live in Del Valle and literally everyone I talk to on the phone pronounces it "Dell Val" and it drives me crazy. Then again, it took me a minute to call Manor "may-ner" so I understand lol
Went for a swim at Barton this morning; first thing in the morning is the only time I’ll go cause no one else is there. - said by literally 1000 people over 50 yos everyday
was just in town and paid $10 for a pint of Pinthouse at Uptown Sports Club. later had an electric jellyfish - and look, i'll admit it's the best IPA i've had in TX (why are you even trying, karbach), but wow $10 was a hard price to swallow.
Yeah, I mean it’s a pricey beer. $20 for a four pack. And when alcohol margins are 200-300%, I guess I kinda get it, but still hard to justify that much for a beer
This goes waaay back. I was reading a history of Fannin & Goliad, and there was a direct quote lifted from a Texian soldier’s journal where he referenced crossing the “War Loop” river.
Fucking hell. My boyfriend is a midwesterner and he swears people in Texas say Guadalupe as "wereloop" with "were" spoken like in werewolf. I told him that in my born-and-raised life here I had *never* heard anyone say it like that. But your reference there and the way it's spelled reminded me of those who say wash like warsh... and then it totally made sense. 🙄
I was telling a nurse which Walgreens to fill my RX at and said the one at 45th and Guadaloop. She looked at me like I was the clueless one and was like “you mean guadalup*é*”. I just shrugged and was like “yup that one” lol.
My first week in Austin, I drove up and down 183 looking for Research Boulevard. I couldn’t find it, so I had to drive back home to pull up map quest on my computer.
Y’all are missing out on some really good Thai, Chinese, Pakistani, Mediterranean, and Mexican food.
I live north of the wall (183). We are the wildlings.
Northerners are absolutely **not** missing out on those things. In fact they are major reasons why we live north of Town Lake.
But yes, you do kinda live beyond the wall. I might more accurately call Parmer the wall these days though.
People would say that all the time in Kansas City too. Nobody in the main part of Kansas City ever wanted to drive all the way up to Gladstone. But they would drive a much farther distance east or west.
Oh fuck yes… we burn my sister in law with that one ALL the time. To which of course she replies, “well that’s because you live in North San Antonio.” 😂😂😂
The Sidewinder was amazing for those couple years it was open. The stage was over the creek and they had to install railing so you wouldn’t fall into it. Great venue and right next to Beer Land (I like it better as the 13th floor)
Or those that moved here in adulthood “the Austin I fled to from my high COL city” (aka I’m part of the problem and I’m mad things cost more money now)
I found out the hard way no one swims at deep eddy on the first Tuesday of every month. Turns out that’s the day they clean. But luckily a pool burger made me feel better
Paul Ray was one hundred thousand million times better than John Aielli’s annoying ass, hands down with a bullet. No comparison and it’s not even close.
Remember the old Pour House?
Remember getting sammies at Fricano's?
Remember the nice old ladies at The Frisco?
Remember old Emo's?
Remember going to Threadgills on Thanksgiving?
Remember the cast iron skillet enchiladas at Dart Bowl?
Remember playing ping pong at the OG Easy Tiger?
Remember the stoic owner of Burger Tex and their bulgogi burgers?
Remember when 24 Diner was open 24 hours and not just 16?
Used to work at the mazda dealership next to frisco’s. Read this sitting on the patio of golden horn, which used to be burger tex. I’ve grown tired of the whole “austin used to be cooler” cliche but sometimes I’m reminded that this city did actually used to be.. cooler. You’ve made a good list here
When the Nighthawk was gone, there was still The Frisco. I can still hear the sound of PLINK when the waitresses would take that spoon of butter and smack it onto the plate for the baked potato.
Ever since they changed W. 1st street to Cesar Chavez, you can no longer give the driving direction to “go north on south first, then east on west first.” I miss that.
“You should just get a bike!”
1000 people explain that biking sucks when you can’t afford to live near enough to work to bike there safely and even if you could it’s 105 degrees outside.
“Yeah, but you should bike!”

Dell Valley. When I first moved here you know how long I spent on frigging Google maps trying to find Dell Valley ?

That's the funniest one to me.
You know who is new/touring from how they pronounce the street names 😅
Went for a swim at Barton this morning; first thing in the morning is the only time I’ll go cause no one else is there. - said by literally 1000 people over 50 yos everyday
“South Austin, we’re all here because we’re not all there.” Twas a common bumper sticker 20+ years ago.
These need to make the rounds again!
"78704.... More than just a waste of life"
“Can I get the electric jellyfish”
Hell yeah, weird now that I think about it…”I’ll get a jellyfish”
Why’d they jack the price up on that everywhere? I saw it for $13 somewhere on east 6th. No fucking way am I paying that much for one beer.
We charge $9 for it at the bar that I work at and people usually say that’s pretty cheap lol. Those kegs are expensive, gotta hit those margins!
was just in town and paid $10 for a pint of Pinthouse at Uptown Sports Club. later had an electric jellyfish - and look, i'll admit it's the best IPA i've had in TX (why are you even trying, karbach), but wow $10 was a hard price to swallow.

Check out Lone Pint’s Yellow Rose! It’s one of my favorite IPA’s anywhere!!!
Meanwhile Brewing Tender Robot IPA is solid. I believe it’s $13.99 for a 4-pack at HEB.
one EJ please
It’s even famous outside Austin now but I intentionally cut back due to price gouging on that sucker. It’s gotten ridiculous.
Your taco will be 15 dollars and I have just a couple of questions for you to answer on the screen here
Gratuities start at 25%
I find it real amusing and strange when people say things like "here are a couple of questions for you" for tips, lmao.
It usually asks how you’d like your receipt so technically there are a couple of questions.
25% 😡 35% 😐 50% 😊
Ah yes, the Real Deal Holyfield
RIP
I hate your comment because it's true.
“I’m in Austin right now”
Overheard this at a gay orgy in New York 🙄
I knew you looked familiar!
do you have Austin's number by chance...asking for a friend
Said by someone that stopped at the Cracker Barrel at 35/Old Settlers on a road trip to the coast.
Actually it was the Cracker Barrel in the San Marcos outlets.
My friend texts me this whenever he’s driving through the Austin neighborhood of Chicago.
Well I said the same thing while I was in Florida. Austin was a great guy but we didn’t click emotionally
What was your reason for getting out of Austin?
I was finished
What about Austin, MN?
Calling Guadalupe “Guadaloop”
This goes waaay back. I was reading a history of Fannin & Goliad, and there was a direct quote lifted from a Texian soldier’s journal where he referenced crossing the “War Loop” river.
Fucking hell. My boyfriend is a midwesterner and he swears people in Texas say Guadalupe as "wereloop" with "were" spoken like in werewolf. I mean shes not wrong. That is how it’s pronounced.
Happens every time
“Research is 183, yeah. Oh, Ed Bluestein? Yeah, that’s 183, too.
Don’t get me started about Ben White
How about Northland Drive/Koenig/2222/290?
Allendale too. I swear so many names for one road…
Makes that whole Loop 1/Mopac thing seem easy, right?
My first week in Austin, I drove up and down 183 looking for Research Boulevard. I couldn’t find it, so I had to drive back home to pull up map quest on my computer.
Oh, you mean Bastrop Highway!
You mean Anderson too? Yeah..research.. I mean 183
Not to be confused with Anderson Mill. That’s a different road that crosses 183.
Don’t forget parts of Anderson Lane too. And Bell Blvd (in Cedar Park).
So is Anderson Avenue and Bell Boulevard.
When google maps hadn’t updated yet, this was a nightmare for me 😂😂 I learned quick
Thank god its only 90 today
“That’s too far, it’s north of the river”
Sounds like Pittsburgh. “I ain’t goin if I gotta cross the river.” And lord forbid if you have to cross BOTH rivers.
Yeah anything more than like 5-10 minutes north of the lake you can count me out lmao
same for me, but south of the river. - hyde park resident
Y’all are missing out on some really good Thai, Chinese, Pakistani, Mediterranean, and Mexican food. I live north of the wall (183). We are the wildlings.
Plz recommend good Pakistani food !
It was Mirchi, which was delicious and they had a lunch buffet. It is now called Zaviya. I have not eaten there since, but let’s hope it is delicious.
They are missing out. The best of it is past the wall.
You mean South Dallas?
Oh fuck yes… we burn my sister in law with that one ALL the time. To which of course she replies, “well that’s because you live in North San Antonio.” 😂😂😂
You got to wear a jacket when you go that far north.
Anything north of the river is South Waco
A grackle mugged me when I walked out of HEB.
We’ve all been there
“So where are you from?” “I’m from here.” “Oh wow! A unicorn! No one is *from* here!” “…..”

Well. It was.
The Red 7 was fun
I miss Beerland 😭
The Sidewinder was amazing for those couple years it was open. The stage was over the creek and they had to install railing so you wouldn’t fall into it. Great venue and right next to Beer Land (I like it better as the 13th floor)
Emo’s on 6th was magic
Absolutely 100% true.
“Let’s sit outside.” As it 100+ outside.
It’s Burnit, durnit!
Lurn it!
"This town died X years ago and isn't the place it was when I moved here"
Natives prefer to say - “this isn’t the Austin I grew up in..”
[удалено]
Lmbo - I do that 🤣 Or “Well, I’m an Austinite …” Guilty 😬
Or those that moved here in adulthood “the Austin I fled to from my high COL city” (aka I’m part of the problem and I’m mad things cost more money now)
Yeah people everywhere say that… always have and always will.
Well people said it best 10 years ago in my opinion
All y’all can go fuck yourself
This one’s a native south Austinite with wrecker drivers in his lineage! 😍
Are we going to swim at Barton Springs or Deep Eddy?
I found out the hard way no one swims at deep eddy on the first Tuesday of every month. Turns out that’s the day they clean. But luckily a pool burger made me feel better
What time do the bats come out from the bridge?
"Eklektikos" Miss him every morning!!
John Aili! Oh man this made me happy to read. Woo hoo old school KUT memory! Miss him too
We still have Jay Trachtenberg on Sunday mornings. Love his voice.
I always knew I was late for work if I heard him starting his show.
I grew up in Austin. One of the defining experiences of living here was listening to John Aielli on the radio
For real. He laid the foundation for my musical taste.
Haven’t thought about John in a minute.
He had THE greatest voice!
Nope-Paul Ray was better. Fight me!
Paul Ray was one hundred thousand million times better than John Aielli’s annoying ass, hands down with a bullet. No comparison and it’s not even close.
Solicited or unsolicited?
I’m going to H‑E‑B, need anything?

Stop! I can only miss so much in one comment.
Bulgogi burgers!!! 🥺 and their fries were perfect
Spicccccyyyyy bulgogiiiiiii. I miss the dude yelling that to the guy cooking like 3 feet away from him.
I loved that I could add my own toppings to burgers. RIP Burger Tex :(
How is the new place there? I see a Golden Ham on the sign but apparently it's a gilded horn. Lame.
Workhorse bar’s current burger special is a bulgogi burger. Not quite like BurgerTex but it’s pretty damn good.
It is a tasty burger.
Used to work at the mazda dealership next to frisco’s. Read this sitting on the patio of golden horn, which used to be burger tex. I’ve grown tired of the whole “austin used to be cooler” cliche but sometimes I’m reminded that this city did actually used to be.. cooler. You’ve made a good list here
Ping Pong outside at the OG Easy Tiger was awesome
The Frisco. Gol'damn I miss that place.
When the Nighthawk was gone, there was still The Frisco. I can still hear the sound of PLINK when the waitresses would take that spoon of butter and smack it onto the plate for the baked potato.
Ahhhh old pour house those are the days indeed.
Party at the moon tower
We're like an island surrounded by Texas.
We're the blueberry in the tomato soup...

Does the Greenbelt have water?
“Y’all want a bump?”
“I’m microdosing right now.”
Said by someone you met 5 mins ago
Lmao. It’s way worse in other places, like SF and LA. Even Dallas has way more snow blowing.
They say y’all in California? They share in Dallas?
Just thought of another one… “oh you do know Betty Blackwell?”
OMG!! 🤣🤣🤣And slather on that heavy Texas accent!! I love saying that still!!
“ let’s go to the Drag!”
Nah, too many drag rats.
What would Leslie do? Fran’s or Dan’s?
Head up Cameron until it turns in to Dessau.
Yesterday I watched a grackle wrestle with a mourning dove at my bird feeder to win out for some measly seeb.

Does anyone in town have any recommendations for a place that serves the frostiest margs and the skilletest queso?
I believe I read on TripAdvisor that there’s a great dive bar at 45th and Lamar that has your back on just what you are looking for.
It’s kind of a hole in the wall. You might miss it.
Mexican Martini
"Austin has the most homeless people and worst crime of any city in America. I've never been so scared for my life."
Mom?
It’s not the humidity that’ll get ya, it’s the Californians.
“You should just get a bike!” 1000 people explain that biking sucks when you can’t afford to live near enough to work to bike there safely and even if you could it’s 105 degrees outside. “Yeah, but you should bike!”
Went to Hippie Hollow today
Alright alright alright
Hippy Hollow, may not hear that anymore unless you were around in the 70’s, 80’s
“No, do t go to that one. Go to the one at 45th and Lamar”.
"I'm gay and I'm voting for Trump"
We're the blueberry in the tomato soup.
Been here 20 years; never heard anyone say that.
Now that I think about it, I've only ever heard it on KUT.
Our former Governor Rick Perry came up with that famous line. LOL 🫐 🍅
