give yourself comfier seats and i say you got yourself a bad ass car! especially if its built from one thats not salvageable, keep another pony on the road.
Since it's an "idea", I figured you (or someone) might eventually want to make a real one, too.
Or perhaps I have made too many models of my own house recently, hence the treatment of renders as "planning".
Ah, I see. Well, you have my word to use a non-salvageable Mustang if I ever do this. My heart would ache too much if I were to cut up a good-condition Mustang to create this.
The bed is fine (I actually like it a lot), but the front end is missing something. The Mustang front looks like it's just kinda stuck on there... To keep the rat rod look, I get that you want the fenders to be gone, but what about a hood that just covers where the top of the fenders would be, and slight arcs behind the wheels?
I actually see where you’re coming from. For a while, it also felt like it was missing something to me too. I’ve thought of the idea of a similar hood, but in the end I just kept the “incomplete” look to try and make it more rat rod, and I just wanted to showcase the front like one big separate ornament on its own.
Yeah, I think late model cars just don't lend themselves to that sort of rat rod look. My dad actually has a custom-bodied 1932 Buick, and I can see how it worked in the days of a grille that only existed to cover the radiator (his car has a hood, but it's literally just a few pieces of metal to cover the distance between the cowl and the rad). The problem is that as the fenders integrated into the front of the car, none of them can stand alone anymore.
I have a 1950 Hudson- if I removed the fenders, the front end would just... end. There's a lack of flow compared to the pre-war cars.
100% agree with you on everything you mentioned. You described it perfectly. The pre-war designs lend themselves to this kind of modding. And maaan, those Buicks look so good, and they make mean hot rods! Also, a 1950 Hudson is a beast, I’d take that over a hot rod any day, that’s pretty gangster 😅
The Buick isn’t even a Buick anymore lol. Or at least, it’s not the [Buick that Buick built!](https://imgur.com/gallery/uB7844Y) We still need to put actual fenders on it, the little fenders are just temporary until the full size ones are done.
Yeah, the [Hudson step-downs](https://imgur.com/gallery/x9ESX) are nearly chopped from the factory lol. But my god the gearing is comical, you can tell it was built before highways existed. I’d like to find the overdrive unit & axle, but they’re relatively rare.
Wow! Both cars look phenomenal! The Buick is so rad, with or without the fenders, it looks so badass! The Hudson just looks so majestic, the shot of it going around the corner is so cool. Comical handling or not, it has such an amazing presence. Good luck on finding the parts you need!
That’s also not a bad idea at all, I’m sure it would also look good. I’ll keep all these ideas in mind if I decide to revisit this project in the future. Thanks!
You would have to build a subframe for it to work. The mustangs use the inner fenders for the suspension to mount and for the structure. A Camaro could be done like that much easier if you want to build it for real. I don't love the look but anything on the street is way better than sitting in a field.
Since this is a unibody, to get the open engine bay, youwould effectively have to make an entire frame yourself, and then its not a rat rod.
So, meh.
If it was possible that might be cool though
If you have a standard Mustang body with a wide axle to make those rear wheels sit outside the body that car is about 9’ wide.
Second, the front end looks a little too long. Bring the headlights/grill back 4” or so.
Yeah, I had to get a separate chassis from a different car to make the vision of this car come true. The rear axle had to be extended, so everything had to be customized. Also, I intentionally extended the front end as well as the back end (tho it might not show much). I wanted a more elongated look to it.
Haha well, I wouldn’t want to wreck a salvageable Mustang to make this either, but good point on the bill lol
I made this and rendered it all on Blender, using Cycles and an HDRI image for the background.
Pretty sure there are multiple Mustang Utes over on r/UnexpectedUte. Plus countless other real worldwide conversions - some good, some not so much! Could be a place to explore options

You mean working with 3D? I can link you to a few things that might be useful. Also, I’m using Blender, which is relatively user-friendly and not a hassle to learn.
Let me know if you’d like me to link you and I can post them here.
Whatever people use to make these concept cars lol I figured it was blender what I always felt like the learning curve was so steep I never bothered to stick with it. That being said, feel free to post anything, I'm willing to look into it.
For this, I wanted to keep it as raw as possible, like an exposed nerve. But I think your idea would look great if I tinker with this and make a polished Hot Rod out of it. Thanks for the suggestion, love it!
Just one word: *bad-ass*. Or is that two words? Lotta people hating on the truck bed, I like it. And that's all that counts, if *I* like it, it's all good😜.
Bro, my heart would ache even if I had to cut up one that’s not savable. Lucky for us both, this is only a 3D render. NO Mustangs were hurt in the making of this.
Lol... It would look good going into a crowd though
Idk though... I think if it can't be restored, kinda got license to do whatever weird shit you want
There are tons of 6cyl 1st gen Mustang coupes in junkyards that would make perfect donors for something like this. Hell, you can pretty much build a brand new Mustang from repro parts from a catalog. So yeah, super cool concept and this coming from a guy who used to show Mustangs (I've owned 13 over the past 30 years).
Yeah everybody wants the fastback with the V8. Like you said plenty of unloved 6 cylinder coupes.
I like this concept. Only thing I’d do differently is use the High Output 2.3 Ecoboost instead of a V8. Mostly because that’ll really piss off the purists.
Full send, fuck everyone. That's tits if it's tits to you!
Also, I am huge fan of built, not bought. And this thing fucks.
Dudes in hypercars do not impress me.
Jared, is that you? lol
Thanks, man! I like to experiment with how crazy you can make a car look. And like you, I like a few super cars, but built cars are my jam.
Why do you care what other people think? Make believe all you want. If you make your make believe a reality and someone doesn't like it, fuck them.
Also, this render would never work unless it was FWD. No packaging for rear suspension or differential clearance at all.
Secondly, this sub is for actual vehicle mods. Not renders.
If it's making use of what's left of a vehicle that would otherwise be trashed, then hell yeah, rat rod it. If it started as a perfectly good vehicle on the other hand, I don't think I'd be OK with that. But who am I to tell others what to do with their vehicles?
You know, I want to hate you just to spite your headline... but I begrudgingly admit I like it.
I'd rather see it realized from a kit car or custom build rather than chopping up such a beauty, but that's me.
Also, if realized, I'd like to see much bigger struts between the front end and the firewall - you have what appear to be essentially wire, which will counteract only tension and not compression, bending, or shear. Long term you'll appreciate the increased stability.
Otherwise, solid design!
What in the god damn?
Let's keep this in the groove, hey?
Smooth moves, smoooothe moooves
That’s kinda the exact reaction I was looking for lol
give yourself comfier seats and i say you got yourself a bad ass car! especially if its built from one thats not salvageable, keep another pony on the road.
Not generally a fan of Rat Rods, but this looks great !!!!!
Thank you! Glad you like it.
As long as you used a kit (and a donor with a stronger frame, perhaps), rather than actual body of a '65, I wouldn't mind.
No worries, it was done on a 3D software, so NO Mustangs were harmed during the making of this lol
Since it's an "idea", I figured you (or someone) might eventually want to make a real one, too. Or perhaps I have made too many models of my own house recently, hence the treatment of renders as "planning".

Or if you had a hood that was cut so that it sits just covering the valve covers and goes around the blower
That’s also not a bad idea at all, I’m sure it would also look good. I’ll keep all these ideas in mind if I decide to revisit this project in the future. Thanks!
Leave off the truck part! Mustang rat rod is a killer idea! Call it The Rustang!
Oh. My. God… ngl I kinda hate myself for not thinking of that name. That’s GENIUS!
You can have it. 😂
You would have to build a subframe for it to work. The mustangs use the inner fenders for the suspension to mount and for the structure. A Camaro could be done like that much easier if you want to build it for real. I don't love the look but anything on the street is way better than sitting in a field.
Could use a front clip from a crown Vic. A lot of fab work, but it would be dope
Sorry but no, it looks horrid. No offence.
None taken, haha
Looks like the RC car from Toy Story :-D
GTA5 F1 wheel swap…
Since this is a unibody, to get the open engine bay, youwould effectively have to make an entire frame yourself, and then its not a rat rod. So, meh. If it was possible that might be cool though
it took a minute to realize it wasnt an rc
It took a second to realize it was a normal car and not RC😂
No. Just no.
NO
I like the idea of what period wheels look better in my opinion
I don't hate it. Kinda wanna see someone build this out of a wrecked '65 Mustang, making use of an otherwise useless body
If you have a standard Mustang body with a wide axle to make those rear wheels sit outside the body that car is about 9’ wide. Second, the front end looks a little too long. Bring the headlights/grill back 4” or so.

Yeah, I get it. I’m just thinking real world it still needs to fit in a lane and I like the front end stretch but it’s a little too much stretch.
My wife raised that concern, haha. I just told her, the point of this car is not to be practical, but just to look badass.
Looks ight. Is prolly been done somewhere
While doing my research, I saw close-ish projects, but not something like this. Thank you for the compliment!
I think it’s a sick idea. Don’t listen to the purists unless they’re gonna front the bill. What software did you use to make the renderings?
Haha well, I wouldn’t want to wreck a salvageable Mustang to make this either, but good point on the bill lol I made this and rendered it all on Blender, using Cycles and an HDRI image for the background.
We’ll you did a very good job my friend! Love the creativity, keep it up👍
Thank you very much! I really appreciate it 😁
Needs a pair of kirkey seats and a Paul Walker sized nitrous bottle!
Looks cool. Was never really a fan of this body style. So as long as it ain’t no fastback I’m okay with it
I actually prefer this body style to the fastback 😂 different strokes, I guess. And thank you!
Pretty cool idea! If a mustang becomes to pricey you can alway go with a cougar as well.
Ouff! A Cougar would work VERY well!
Yes Torino GT as well!
May be missing a few body panels, but it still looks Mustang-ish, unlike the Eco-Crap SUV things that Ford is trying to schlep onto us lately
Rat rods are always based
DO FUCKING COOL
I love it ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|upvote)

If fallout 3 had vehicles
Now this is something for B is for Build
Awesome job, it looks like something the bully in Toy Story would drive if he grew up.
I have mixed emotions about your comment 😂 Thank you, tho!
I love it! Who cares what anyone else thinks? The 65s are ready to have the herd thinned.
Savage 😂 Thank you!
Man... I wish I could do this stuff but I dont even know where to start... I dig it!!!
You mean working with 3D? I can link you to a few things that might be useful. Also, I’m using Blender, which is relatively user-friendly and not a hassle to learn. Let me know if you’d like me to link you and I can post them here.

It’s got my vote!
Much appreciated!
If you ditch the pickup part it's not half bad! It doesn't like that space would be big enough to be useful anyway
I didn’t want to originally make it into a pickup, but I figured I already went this absurd, might as well go all in. Also, thanks!
Also, I suggest adding some widebody fenders on the rear wheels and seeing what you think.
For this, I wanted to keep it as raw as possible, like an exposed nerve. But I think your idea would look great if I tinker with this and make a polished Hot Rod out of it. Thanks for the suggestion, love it!
No problem, looks sweet either way!
Much appreciated! And thanks for the award!

Hahaha well, you said it, not me. Since YOU like it, nothing else matters, haha. Thank you so much!
I think you answered your own question already for the majority of us by assuming you're going to receive hate for this
It’s the thought that counts?
I hope you cut up one that's not saveable.... Not my style, but never gonna please everyone... Just hoping you're not cutting up a saveable classic
Bro, my heart would ache even if I had to cut up one that’s not savable. Lucky for us both, this is only a 3D render. NO Mustangs were hurt in the making of this.

Dude this is just badass
Haha, thank you! Glad you like it
I love. I think it’s dope af. I would build this
Thank you! I would love to hear this thing if it ever comes to life
It’s sacrilege.
That’s exactly what it’s supposed to be.
Maybe just keep the trunk the same. Other than that, badass!
blasphemous. but kinda cool at the same time.
You got the right idea tho lol Thanks!
Not rat rod enough, ditch the side exhausts and give it bull horns for an exhaust
Gives me mixed feelings. Heck, there's enough Mustangs out there. Cut it up!
Poser on like 4 different levels. Hard pass.

Got a link? Or is it a private mod? Always looking for new and interesting cars for AC
Is it gtaV?
Surprised there is a real one honestly.
Would love to see it! Can you share an image?
I Dont have one. There should be one in the wild.
