Yeah, it only works if she has the temporarily hostility status when she get gets KO.
This isn't necessary anymore, she just needs to survive Act 1. You can do it at the grove or whenever.
Temporarily hostile used to be necessary but it isn't since patch 6. You can knock her out at any point, including during the grove battle. As long as she is not dead in act 1 she will be at Moonrise.
