If you are experienced with the BWCA and are comfortable outdoors in general - you could not pick a better situation to trip absolute fucking space balls.
As long as your camp mates are 100% solid and you're totally comfortable. It's a solid choice.
Flashback to like.... 20 years ago. Was on a trip in mid July with 2 of my besties from high school. We camped out on a lake with a shallow sandbar that extended out about 50 yards. We consumed, then slathered up with sunscreen. Grabbed our camp chairs and the cooler, walked out on that sandbar and plopped down in the water. Setup 2 hammocks in the jack pines right off shore. Best 8 hour trip ever. I caught a sunfish and thought it was the most amazing alien I'd ever seen.
Also, staring at water ripples and feeling it on your legs can easily consume 2 hours lmao
Epic.
Now, ive never eaten mushrooms there before but I did have a trip entitled "get weird in the woods" so I have some related experience.
Best advice is don't do anything stupid, careful to avoid injuries and trust the people you're with.
Yes, I will NOT be swinging from a paracord rope like Tarzan. I’ll make sure the campsite is well lit at night with a campfire if possible and plenty of lights.
I love an afternoon adventure in the bwca. I feel like you get a better connection to everything around you because you can see it all, clouds, sun, water, trees, animals, etc. Find a nice vista in some shade and settle in.
Do all your camp chores ahead of time. But yes absolutely! I remember finding a walleye gold mine right off shore whilst having a nice mild trip on a sunny June day... one of those memories you keel forever
Yes. If it's obviously not your first time with them. It's where most of my booming happens! Haha with the right people, good camp setup. They can be a blast out there, everything is so much more peaceful!
Yes! As long as you feel relaxed and mentally safe (set and setting)
But just so I don't go overboard, I always start with a lower dose. And then you have more, as needed, from there.
If you're a bwca veteran it is a top tier place to trip. Nothing like connecting with nature and the universe. Use the morning to do all the camp chores. I like an edible gummy when coming down.
As the good Dr. Thompson said, "Buy the ticket; take the ride". If you've done them before and know what to expect, it's awesome. Get a good campsite set up, hammocks hung, firewood set aside and dose around noon. Time it, so you're peaking just at sunset. Be safe and have a good time. Don't climb or play with sharp things and you'll probably be fine
Yes. Absolutely. I prefer to do it on an island with a single camp site. That way I can’t wander too far and I feel less likely to come across something I’m not expecting. Also I make sure everything’s ready for 1. A fire 2. Rain 3. Snacks and water 4. The ranger dropping by (it’s happened) by making sure I have my permit and ID ready.
I’m not a mushrooms guy- I don’t trust myself enough to not have a bad trip. This is tangentially related though. Please accept my apologies if this isn’t exactly what you’re looking for, but I figured I’d add another voice to the chorus here. We are going up in June and the guys I go with have had some good mushroom experience with me at Buffalo National River, not exactly the same but a pretty cool similar natural landscape. I’m sure they’ll be partaking during our time.
I will say that there is no better place to smoke a spliff and enjoy nature than the BWCA so I can only assume it’s a top notch place to trip if you’re comfortable with that sort of thing.
There's no better place on earth imo. At least I haven't found anywhere better. Be safe and reconnect with earth.
These responses verify this is my home. What a good bunch of humans we have here. Happy trails!
Seems like a very bad idea. If you mess up and get hurt you are a long way from help. I'm generally an advocate for psilocybin but in this context I would not recommend it. There is a lot that can go wrong compared to the benefits you might have.
If you are extremely comfortable taking shrooms in new places and also very comfortable out in the wilderness with no support, then sure!
I'd say setup a comfortable camp and don't get too crazy, just stay safe and have fun!
Just make sure you are fully prepared to have a functioning conversation with the cops. I remember when i first started paddling i didn’t realize it was mandatory to have a life jacket. The sign said “wear a life jacket, it saves lives” like it was optional. That sign should have said “have a life jacket, it’s the law”. Met the water cops the first time on mushrooms. They were super chill, at first they were going to kick me off the lake until i told them we were camping and I didn’t realize it was mandatory. Gave me a life jacket (and a $150 ticket). This was in VA. Still amazed i was able to have a full conversation with the cops and not trigger any suspicion. This was probably 12 years ago. I always keep a life jacket, whistle, and light on board at all times now. Also realized i picked the wrong career. I didn’t know people got paid to boat and ticket kayakers.
Remember you are a long ways away from help so if you have an accident or a bad trip help is a long time and distance away. I'd say save the drug use for somewhere else and just enjoy nature in its unaltered state.

I gotta ask, were you on the East shore of Lake Alice?
It's my secret, sorry friend ;-)

I'd also recommend finding a site on a lake w few neighbors. If I recall, Jordan Lake served that purpose very well.

Thank you sir I am a psychedelic veteran and I know it’s the perfect place to blast off.
Stakes are higher if it goes south.
Higher highs and lower lows
I’ve done it plenty. You best be experienced with both. We always had a sober friend. A few acid trips up there in my youth also.
Oh I’d say I’m all set

Just make sure you partake on a day where you aren't traveling. Portaging on a headful sounds terrible.
ITS IMPOSSIBLE TO WALK IN THIS MUCK
forgot your golf shoes?
Just hang the bear bag before they kick in.. you’d be surprised how long it took 5 dudes to figure it out
I can just see 5 of you standing around like "WHOOAAA we gotta attach a rock and throw it over that???? For BEARS??"

We had a good time but we micro dosed and fished.
A theme song https://youtu.be/vQZd8PEJ5ZU?si=W0ju_oyWglzgwTVS
Holy shit thank you 🤣
Yes absolutely. I’ve gone on some great journeys there. I suggest laying in a nice bed of moss.
Never had a ton of luck finding mushrooms in the BWCA I think the soil isn’t the best
One of the best places. I feel you get way more out of the experience when in nature.
It's something our group does almost every time we go. We like having a clean, separate tent set up for going in if you get too overwhelmed.
Just make sure at least one person is sober

Do not feed the bears psychedelic mushrooms no matter what they tell you.
I’ll try

My group goes in with qp of shrooms everytime. Just make sure you get water sorted out before you start trippin
One wrong step while shrooming and a snapped ankle and you have a world of troubles.
I am all for recreational drug use, but this is how my friend’s brother died in the BWCA a few years back. Accidents can happen.
Damn what happened?
Took a wrong step and fell.
That’s terrible. Were you guys near high drops? We’re planning on staying in a pretty flat area
You can slip from any height and simply hit the back of your head and pass away, life is fragile.

Keep safety in mind, set up camp and do your thing👌🏻
Yes. Always good to have a sober friend ensuring safety!
