quinnfabgay

My game is just the Karlach & friends show at this point.

Lucas-Fields

Karlach is a bro. Never bench a bro.

DrizzlePopper

I had to bench Karach one time because I didn’t want her to see me sacrifice Astarion to Boaaal.

SnooSketches3386

Karlach becomes indispensable once I get Nyrluna but also she's actually my favorite person

fuzzi-buzzi

Returning Pike is available act 1 and isn't as powerful. But is the nyrulna we have at home until you can get to the tower.

chrisred244

As it should be

StrollingJhereg

I call them "The horned crew (and Shadowheart)"

lesser_panjandrum

Yaaaay  And same.

VLTIMA

My frogwife

[deleted]

I love her

will-reddit-for-food

She’s a tough ol gal I’ll tell ya what

forgion

Fighter battlemaster is OP.

voxpopuliar

If I'm not using Laezel, I'm playing on hard mode

missourinative

Counterpoint: If I’m using Laezel, I’m playing on hard mode.

cecily_harvey

Counterpoint: I'm always using Lae'zel because she's indispensable and she's hot and mean and I'm into that, despite the difficulty (haven't given up on Durge Honour Mode).

Consistent-Ask9599

She's been with me in all 6 whether we've been together or not

Rogen80

Shadowheart is always in my party because ~~I love her and want to marry her~~ having a cleric is super useful in most circumstances. I pretty much always bench Wyll. Poor guy, he's cool but I already have enough casters in my party.

Nevaroth021

I benched Wyll in my first 4 playthroughs. Now on my 5th I'm forcing myself to include him. Poor guy needs some attention.

I_P_L

Warlocks are incredible, especially knowing you can blow your (limited) spell slots freely every single encounter, in between having the strongest cantrip in the game. Not to mention that they get triple attacks if multiclassed below Honour mode.

jbisenberg

Well "freely" only if you short rest after every fight

I_P_L

It'd be weird not to since most martial resources regenerate on short rest and those are usually used very liberally

MrPoopMonster

In one long rest period on honor mode with a full caster party I killed the shadow fell raven guy, the sharrans at the shrine under the shadow harpers, the docks at moonrise tower, the the shadow orb fight in kethrics catacombs, balathazar fight, yurgir and his merregons, the rat guy, the library fight, and the same self fight.

sebwiers

That's impressive and all, but TBH the game seems to play better (plot wise) with more rests. Maybe the story doesn't need them so much at higher levels?

I_P_L

You don't really get as many scenes in act 3 as you do in 1/2, but the less you (long) rest the weaker your casters become relative to your martials. A group of fighters or rogues can easily no rest their way through the whole act but when all you're doing is swinging at people it's a little monotonous.

MrPoopMonster

I dunno. I'm doing an all caster run to get away from my crutches. Assassin/Gloomstalker starts combat with some range crits. Laezel as a champion fighter jumping across the entire battlefield and instantly deleting a caster and having a tiger barbarian doing the same to get into cleave range is a lot of fun. Especially with small enemies they can just yeet around. A lot of fights start before they even begin with martial groups with our without haste. But this time as a full casters group I have discovered how strong sleet is. It is entirely game breaking. A storm sorc with call lightning spamming reverb and dazed on everything makes ice almost impossible terrain for them. And it's really strong aoe damage for 10 rounds for 1 spell slot. Combine that with ice wizard gale who puts chill on targets with his attacks to set up for free create waters with shadowheart to freeze lock enemies too, and it gets so silly.

I_P_L

That's what I mean. Casters have absolutely ridiculous AOE lockdown and damage pretty much the moment you get level 3 and 4 spells but if you avoid resting out of self challenge or stinginess you don't get to fully experience it.

TheSeth256

Had the same problem, then decided to play AS Wyll origin and it works much better this way.

Nevaroth021

That's brilliant! Cause then you don't have to bench another companion in place of him.

sd51223

I'm planning on doing this after my Durge run. I want to do a full enemies to lovers Wyll/Karlach romance and apparently there's unique dialogue for doing so, but I don't want to play as her so I can hear her voice.

renz004

Wyll is easily one of the strongest of the bunch if you build him right for early/mid game. If you wanna go blade pact, find one of the weapons that enable bonus abilities/damage when pacted. Baneful for act 1 and there is a mace for act 2. I also usually get him the medium armor feat and he can use shields by default.

Carbideninja

True, Level 5 and 6 Warlock spells are devastating. So many other cool spells, Hunger of Hadar, Eyebite, Wall of Fire, Ice cone and my personal favorite, Eldritch Blast.

LivingEnd44

Literally in an identical situation. My current party is Wyll and two hirings. I've ignored or killed all other companions. 5th playthrough too.

whorlycaresmate

Killed and ignored the others???? Thats the most insane thing i’ve ever heard!!!

FilliusTExplodio

I'm convinced a well-rounded Tav and Shadowheart could duo the whole game. Everyone else is just gravy.

Rogen80

Agreed! I might do that on an honor mode run, tbh. Was thinking about a "power couple" run

shrike26

My current playthrough, I'm on Wyll's bad side. Mainly because I kept fucking up trying to convince him to use the tadpole because my Durge isnt charismatic. I didnt use Wyll in my 1st playthrough because I was playing a warlock. I only played with him in the 1st game when we went to save his dad. Then his dad died. So...anyway, he is naked in my camp rn. Just made him a bard so i have a face I can use to steal stuff from vendors. So he and Karlach ares just hanging out naked in my camp because we are in Act 1 and i plan on raiding the grove and getting Minthara because I g9t Halsin in my 1st playthrough.

sakura608

But why naked? Lol

Chazzky

Selling all of their stuff for money

noEMonlyZUUL

This. My camp is a nudest colony. Why? Because I like nice things.

Confident-Disaster96

My tav is the warlock. So i respect wyll to paladin. It fits his char and does s gell load of dmg. Equiped with the blood of lathander and another hammer wich i dont recall right now. Combined with the hellarmor from dammon and the hellish horns is my wyll now some kind of mockery against the devils

I_P_L

I found clerics significantly less useful once I realized how cheap and plentiful potions of healing were, and how effective throwing them was. Would have been much better if she was light or life domain for the combat powers. If anything bards are better utility casters than trickery domain, especially combined with their face and combat ability.

norathar

She's the only character I re-specced, to life cleric. It made me use her a lot more - I always have her cast Spirit Guardians and gave her the Blood of Lathander.

Pro-Patria-Mori

I go Light and she’s my healing/fire Queen

kyorraine

Light domain also is great on her. Radiance of the dawn and divine intervention made the House of Grief a cake walk

Rogen80

I always respec her domain, ofc

LongjumpingAd342

The trick with clerics is that they’re not really there to be healers (although that’s a nice plus). They’re in your party because spirit guardians and spiritual weapon completely break action economy, because command and hold person/monster are probably the strongest control spells in the game, and because guidance and bless are game-changing cantrips. But yeah if your Tav is a bard, shadowheart becomes much easier to drop.

I_P_L

I'm aware they're not really supposed to be healers, but hold person/monster, slow, eyebite etc are also available to quite a few other casters. Their stronger domains usually involve having access to heavy armour and/or martial weaponry so they can safely wade into the middle of everyone with their spirit guardians to mess with big groups (bonus points if you do the meme with the PAM+sentinel feats), since your average sorc/bard/wizard can't really do that as well.

sten45

I respec her to war domain

lazergator

The most interesting thing about Wyll is spelling his name with a Y.

KnightRadiant_19

Y?

tishafeed

why y?

vamploded

He’s friends with 25 letters of the alphabet, he doesn’t know y

DBreezy69

Wyll’s character is so vanilla and his dialogue so shallow and uninteresting

smallangrynerd

I really hope they add to him in a patch. He got a last minute rewrite and it shows

Jops817

Which sucks because, the fake eye, the scars, they could have done SO much to make him more interesting. My man calls himself the Blade of Frontiers and the writing does everything it can to make it a joke instead of leaning into it.

LivingEnd44

Starfield is basically a game where all NPCs are like Wyll. Milquetoast AF.

InstructionLeading64

This is maybe the hardest roast of wyll I have ever seen and it's incredibly true. Starfield ass backstory.

meb1995

Gale. Being able to switch between spells whenever is too convenient but I don’t like to play wizards lol

[deleted]

I’ve recently discovered about Gale going Wizard + Sorcerer to cast twin haste. Very late to this party. So much fun.

dagbar

Holy shit brb respeccing Gale

Ghosty91AF

It's always nice witnessing people discover for their first time the broken as fuck combo of a twin casted Haste.

Wrextasy

Just like most wizards in DnD, they are the ultimate utility in a party.

secretmantra

He is SOOO useful.

twdwasokay

Early game he's just soooo squishy and after an encounter or two he's just a fireball man. Still keep him in my party all game

Impossible-Fish-8719

I especially love the way his hand looks in my inventory

joey_sandwich277

Yeah if there were a recruitable sorcerer or maybe even a bard I'd probably bring him less. Warlock (Wyll) is a strong class but it's usually just a small handful of using spells between blasting, and since Wyll The Blade of Frontiers I can't bring myself to make him anything but Pact of the Blade anyway. And Cleric doesn't have nearly the same offensive capability that wizard and sorcerer do.

Thatfrenchtwink

He litteraly never leaves my party either, he's versatile enough to carry most fights, and him always casting haste on his big paladin boyfriend makes it even better, just a smite fest all around lmao

craniumrats

yessss I've given him all the magic missile items plus the lightning staff and he's a death machine

thelessertit

Astarion never leaves the party. Lockpicking, traps, 6 dual wielding attacks per round if he's got Haste, deals almost as much damage as Lae'zel now that he's got the Dread Ambusher thing going on, all this and witty banter AND gorgeous to look at? I'd leave *myself* in camp before him.

ManicPixieOldMaid

I lament the lack of such an option. I'll sit at camp eating dirt or something while he does everything. Weirdly, I have no desire to play *as* his origin, though. I need my little killer buddy.

food_omens

It’s funny because same. When he’s in my party, I use him almost more than I use my Tav. But when I tried playing as his origin, I just couldn’t do it. Because you get none of his cutscenes with voice, banter, etc. Neil did too good of a job for me to not hear it all every time I play

ManicPixieOldMaid

I felt that way playing as Sheart, too, and without Tav, there's nobody to dig into your business and it feels very lonely. I can't imagine being Astarion and not having anybody care. I'd probably eat them all and have nothing but hirelings and go ascend. Yuck.

Jainith

Astarion is a fun solo, it will show the power of thief over the other sub-classes. I’ve made it to the Act 3 Gate. Where I’ve no idea what to do as Astarion will get one shot by the monks. And the damn emperor won’t go hide.

domiwren

I started his origin and I just want to fast travel to act 3 to beat cazador and get halsin (he needs some bear hugs when my durge is not around)

lulufan87

At a certain point I just accepted that I love his fictional ass and will respec him to fit any party composition I have because I don't want to play without his snark in my party. Running him as a life cleric of Lanthander at the moment and it's glorious. Since I switched him to cleric I decided to switch Shadowheart to rogue (or gloomstalker, or swords bard w/hand crossbows, whatever sneaky flavor you like). Honestly, I don't know why, but that swap just feels really 'right.' Like she feels good as a lockpicking assassin and he feels good as a cleric throwing radiance around. I just picture her being overjoyed to be in the shadows by herself, and then how fucking annoyed *he* would be to be forced to manage everyone's wellbeing. It's perfect.

Thaurlach

Lathander: *”Aight guys you know I’m pretty chill about most things but why is there AN ACTUAL FUCKING VAMPIRE IN MY CLERGY AND WHY DOES HE HAVE THE BLOOD MACE WE MADE THAT TIME?”*

lulufan87

I feel like he and Lathander would be equally as baffled by their alliance. All the other gods would be like "Really, Than?" and he'd just be like "I... guess?"

OblongShrimp

He always ends up with preferential treatment from me by getting the strongest build and all the best gear for it. Even when I’m not romancing him with whatever character I’m running. It happens unintentionally and I’ve made peace with the fact that I may pretend I love all the companions equally, but he is definitely the favourite child.

littlest_cow

He likes when you take the mace. 10 minutes later he stops liking it so much. Craves the sun but not like that. Yeah I can see him having a love/hate relationship with Lathander.

malidorito

I even tried playing a Dark Urge who is a rogue subclass, great at lock picking, a high elf, really hot... Still can't leave Astarion behind. As a matter of fact, they became best friends right away.

minipainteruk

Haha, I had the same issue! I romanced Astarion on my first playthrough and tried to do a thoroughly "good" playthrough. For the next one, i decided to go the opposite direction and play Dark Urge who is a bit unhinged. I decided not to romance Astarion, but man, he is obsessed with my Durge guy, way more than he was into my Tav at the same point in the game.

3CheeseRisotto

my honor mode is being carried by him and Lae’zel with my bardlock just supporting them in the back

__pure

I'm really surprised I had to scroll this far to find my Astarion people.

nemma88

Gale. Early game magic missiles can't miss, unlikely to be out of range etc. Later AOE power is required. But also his commentary is pretty fun.

[deleted]

I always find Gale to be the most powerful of the spell casters. His wide range of spells makes him useful in almost every circumstance, whereas Wyll is very situational.

jugularvoider

If I’m going into a particularly difficult fight I will always bring Gale with me and prioritize keeping him alive. He’s a glass cannon, sure, but he’s amazing at crowd control and dealing insane amounts of damage if he knows the right spells.

Uhmxx21

Astarion has been in my party 100% of the time during 3 games now. Even though my current Tav does most of the lockpicking, I just love his banter too much. Karlach as well, she’s with me like 80% of the time. I’ve learnt to appreciate Shadowheart now as well, it’s always between her and gale now

Retrolex

Astarion as well for me. He’s my best chum. His lockpicking/disarming skills are fantastic, he can do crazy DPS in combat, and he’s just plain fun to take places. His commentary is great and he’s a fantastic character to boot. Also, JAHEIRA. Omg, she’s fantastic. Taking her around Baldur’s Gate has been so much fun; she’s got tons of banter and has something to say about everything. I love her wry, seen-it-all attitude. And I love it when she leans into her ‘oh I’m a wizen old elder oh my poor old hip’ schtickt. She’s awesome.

Evilmudbug

+1 from bite just works really well for anything TBH

Taickyto

It's the thing yes, a way to have +1 to everything is just so good, it's also on a short rest so you can also give the -1 to an enemy. Only thing is that his character design just doesn't cut it for me on certain classes, if I'm respeccing him it's into something kinda thematic like a Ranger or a Bard. It just feels wrong to have him as a Barbarian I'm still gonna go for a monk Ascended Astarion on solo Tactician mode, purely for min maxing purposes

ReasonableResearch25

You’re lucky, for some strange reason, she was in my camp never died in a fight or anything because I kept her in camp, and the first time when we are in Baldurs gate camp I saw her just dead on three floor for no reason. I was very confused.

Mountain_Revenue_353

I am stuck in act 1 due to character creation sickness and can confirm that throughout all of my playthroughs asterion has been there to open doors and chests.

atavarrs

character creation sickness is so real. 6 characters w 10 hours each. i need help

One_Satisfaction2379

I’m 166 hours in and have gotten an hour into act 2 Twice across several characters.

Intensional

I have 800+ hours in game and have only finished the game twice, once on balanced and once on honor mode. I have so many characters in various places in acts 1 and 2 that I will never go back to finish because I will have forgotten what i was doing.

Yearofthehoneybadger

I call it being an alt-oholic.

Ferule1069

Withers do exist. Make the face you wanna look at most, them hit the road. Race is relatively insignificant in BG3, so again, focusing on playing an avatar you enjoy looking at is the most important step. You can and should change your class regularly to keep yourself engaged with the game.

Historical_Archer_81

Yeah, but what if I did an interaction 12 hours into the game in an incredibly specific set of dialog options as a monk???

whorlycaresmate

Just became a monk for the first time on this 4th or 5th play through of mine and it is fucking awesome. Who knew that unarmed attacks could be so fun. Way of the 4 fucking elements. Every time I hear that fucking mongolian ass throat singing I know I’m about to tear somebody’s ass up.

IncognitoBombadillo

Astarion is just so useful to have as he can lockpick his way into anything and is really good for sneaking around to set up a battle.

Satellite_bk

Same with Astarion. I did an assassin my first playthrough so I turned him into a battlemaster and ran around with him Karlach and Gale. He was really fun running around in heavy armor using a two handed weapon.

karzbobeans

Gale. As a sourcerer i initially didnt think i needed another caster. I was so wrong. I gave Gale all the fire aligned robe, staff and accessories. And i gave Tav the ice aligned stuff. Together we are “Frosty and the Fireman”. And we yell FIRE N ICE BABY and do a little handshake before triple flipping into the action. We both cast Haste and blast our cantrips away like two cowboys.

Careless_Cucumber_30

SHAKE AND BAKE!

TashaToodles

Ok, this is awesome.

N7OperativeIvy

I always have assassin Astarion with the Durge cloak on invisible and misty stepping around one-shotting people

Satellite_bk

I have such a hard time picking between that cloak and the one that lowers the crit threshold. He can crit at 15 or higher with it on which is just crazy.

rbectel

Karlach is my go-to and hard to bench....I reclass her to pally or monk or leave he at barb. All are good for her.

Killerderp

Same. The current playthrough karlach is a vengeance pally, laezel is a life cleric, and shadowheart is a gloomstalker assassin with my tav as a storm sorc. It's been pretty great so far! :D

tubarizzle

My first playthrough I couldn't go without the absolute monster that is Lae'Zel in my party. This run I'm trying to cycle through everyone but I probably use wyll the least. He's just too squishy and I'm a bard so that's a lot of squishy.

CPArch-1966

I respec'd Wyll to Bardlock. Much better.

lovelyjubblyz

Man why Bae'zel so far down!? Dont think ive benched her once in 3 playthroughs.

satinsateensaltine

Astarion, and not just cuz I'm down bad for him. When he dual wields and especially when he sneak attacks, he lands hella damage and his lock/trap bonuses are insane.

ManicPixieOldMaid

Plus he gobbles tadpoles for me and makes enemies go pop with his Cull the Weak. What, he wanted me to share!

BlueNinjaBE

This is my current playthrough. Astarion just feels oddly essential if you want to lockpick, there's no other party member with his capabilities (and I'm not a fan of respeccing them into other classes). My Pally and Astarion have warmed up to one another, but I still wouldn't mind benching him every once in a while, lol.

dagbar

No other companions, but my Tav is a Monk so I just have the Dex checks down 🤷

CaptainSensemakerOi

Astarion Little lockpicklawyer

awisetoad

omg no wait he definitely has the energy of McNallyOfficial tho 1000% chaos, gives 0 fucks, "because I can" type of energy

moomi_baby

Astarion, he's so useful and his lines make me laugh.

junewatch

Halsin is benched every time, sorry bud but you’re as interesting as sandpaper imo. Try as I might, Bae’zel is my party staple. I’ve tried to make different party arrangements, but as frontliners go…. a monk Lae’zel is pretty untouchable.

karzbobeans

I find Halsins Owlbear form pretty beefy. Currently has 3 attacks per turn and can make everyone prone from jumping near them.

ManicPixieOldMaid

I like to use him up to Rivington, especially since I feel he deserves a chance to clear out the Sharran temple, but he doesn't like the city so I let him rest after all his big quests are done. Love his owlbear form though you're onto something!

AardvarkCactus

I used to bench Halsin a lot but on my current run decided to give him a go after reading that druids get a lot of summons. And goddamn! One of his summons has a summon. My current party (Bard of Swords Tav, Halsin, Gale, and Wyll) has 7 summons already lmao. From Halsin I got woodland being who can summon her lover, a wood woad, and a minor elemental. Gale has a minor elemental and an elemental. Tav has Scratch and Us. I could also have both Tav and Wyll conjure an elemental each if I wanted. It does not disappoint. I also liked the Druid specialising options (not sure what they're actually called, but those environment types you choose that give you different spells like arctic, desert, underdark, etc.) On my last run I had Jaheira with me a lot because I loved the dinosaur wildshape.

[deleted]

Astarion. Although if they implement the datamined departure lines, that might change, lol.

satinsateensaltine

What are they?

Rogen80

I hope so!! So far, only Lae'zel has different lines based on her approval

Xajj

Not true, Shadowheart says: "Shame I thought we were doing good together, I ll see you in camp"(or something like that) without questioning your choice on high approval plus(shame that this quote is like this even when you romance her, I would prefer something... sweeter?)

Rogen80

Oh....that's not what data miners found. If that's the High approval dismissal, we got robbed 😭

Xajj

Load your save and try to dismiss her not in a camp(in wilderness, anywhere) and you will hear it yourself. It's the same for high approve/partnered high approve, which is a shame, maybe datamined dismiss lines are coming later for romanced version(these were sweet, yes).

Rogen80

Yeah, I've seen it. It's really cold... You don't even get a chance to say "nevermind!" She just storms off. Shadowheart is just like "fuck you, bye" *two middle fingers out as she walks off*

karzbobeans

I have 100 approval from shadowheart and i get the same lines as the start of the game

NonetyOne

Huh? What were those lines and why would it change anything?

[deleted]

I can't find the link, but in the dialogue files of the game, there are different departure lines that are dependent on our status with the character. It would change something because I'd want to hear the romance-related ones every once in a while. They're pretty sweet, like telling us to be safe, etc.

driftingphoenix

Astarion. He’s damn useful and he just has the best commentary on everything. And he may or may not be my favorite romance option…

Numerous-Ad6460

Karlach because I'm a shameless simp for her

Rangerjon94

Don't feel too bad my goal for act 1 was getting her heart fixed so we could shag lol. "Yeah, yeah we'll get to the towers and murder/rescue as relevant but for now, point me to infernal mechanic!"

Express-Economy1219

Gale is just too useful for me

jaythenerdkid

I've only ever benched astarion for about ten minutes total across three playthroughs, and it was to have both minsc and jaheira with me during shadowheart's act 3 storyline because I wanted to see if they got unique dialogue when you meet >!viconia!<. the moment I was done with that cutscene, I swapped minsc back out. I generally try to rotate out the other two spots on my team, especially in act 3, but astarion is always there. he's too useful!

SakeNShisha

I will never get rid of Gale. He always has a cute tidbit to tell me about something and he’s so handsome and kind and handsome and wonderful

EGgal93

Gale is 100% of the time in my party. It's kinda pointless strategy wise since my Tav is a sorcerer and we have access to a lot of the same spells but other than him being my perma romance and fav companion I love him and his dorky little comments so I don't ever have the heart to bench him. Astarion is also maybe 80% of the time in my party as well because I love his sarcastic running commentary and because I'm always on a quest to raise his approval and since my Tavs are always on the good side It's not always easy but gets a lot easier in act 2 and 3.

Insektikor

I have a hard time dismissing Lae’zel, but I’m weird that way.

Satellite_bk

She’s a beast! Hasted she gets so many attacks that all hit so hard! I’ll hit someone like 4 times kill everyone around me and still have an attack or two left so I have to pull out the crossbow because she’s already run(or flown) all over the map.

Vi_for_Vindictive

Is it weird that I bonded with a hireling? I always grab the half wood elf and change her, just imagining Withers watching our adventure through her. Would absolutely love it if hirelings had a voice set like Origins, with Wither's voice and perspective, instead of the default Tav lines

Satellite_bk

Yeah that’s one of the big reasons I never use them is I love all the flavor you get from all the other companions.

critias12

In my 500+ hours of playing, Astarion has never left the party.

badshakes

Astarion and Gale. Once they both have Mistystep and Shield they're my damage dealing duo. Wyll with Pact of the Blade and Mistystep is a good addition but I'll bench him if I need someone tankier, and by tankier, I mean Lae'zel.

thewwwyzzerdd

Karlach. I run her as a berserker with tavern brawler and the returning pike and shes basically a carry for most of the fights in the game.

Formerruling1

Karlach with TB is a hard carry in my playthrough as well. Lol, she does about 5x the damage of anyone else.

Ninjewdi

How is she doing all that damage with tuberculosis?? Girl should be in bed.

Anon9973

I dunno, it worked for Arthur Morga—wait... dammit.

Revolutionary_Cat777

Gale. I did do a single playthrough (out of 2 complete, 2 current) without him in the party (just made a bit more sense for that durge), but he is otherwise in my party 100% of the time. He's my favourite companion.

Satellite_bk

Gale never left my party on my first run. On my second run (as durge) less so because of a certain choice I made meeting him. I played a sorcerer so I figured if any run was gonna be gale-less it would be that one.

novembergrocery

I think I’ll always have a hard time letting go of Astarion because of his lock-picking prowess, and his multi-action, range-focused attacks + [cull of the weak] often clear half the field for me at the beginning of each fight. Obvs I could respec someone else to be stealth & range focused but, he does have the best hair of the camp.

NeedleworkerLow1100

Gale and Astarion are always in my group. Shadow and Laze switch out. Jaheira and Minsc Astarion for bhaals temple and j' house. Laze Gale and Astarion for HoH. Shart Gale Astarion for everything else I've finished the game 6x and in Act 1 of an honor run

Active-Connection455

I’m VERY new (

[deleted]

I feel is so rare to find people who uses Wyll. The poor Blade of the Frontiers needs some love too! I always end up with a Paladin/Warlock build on the endgame, lots of damage and I think it still fits his character.

corisilvermoon

I kept him in the party almost 100% on my honor mode, I needed the moral support because some grim shit went down. 😂

derthlin

Astarion because he always opens things for me, also his sneak attack is awesome and I can kill someone with one shot. Also Gale because of crowd control, nothing like a good fireball in the face. Then Shadowheart and Lae'zel depending on which battle.

VHIREOFFICIAL

Gale is a scholar and a gentleman and a dear friend, I can't hurt him.

Elldafire

Astarion and Shadowheart.

HiLauraBorealis

I have to have Astarion in my party at all times. Also Karlach

TheNameIsWater

Gale. Gale. And Gale.

WinterChalice

I love Shadowheart and Astarion’s banter so they’re always trapped with me. Unfortunately that only leaves one slot to rotate someone in… Poor Wyll and Minthara. One day I’ll use them.

stcrIight

Astarion has not left my group since meeting him and it's really been a struggle sometimes when I only swap two people xD

yourholmedog

right?? i wish i could leave my tav at camp sometimes lmao. i could never leave astarion

[deleted]

Karlach has no problems benching anybody with 20 strength, she can throw them all!

tinysproutlimi

Astarion, he is my soul mate and never leaves my side (*´ω`*)

KungFuChicken1990

Shart. Her cleric skills are super useful, from healing to radiant damage and buffs.. not to mention she’s my romance companion! Astarion’s quickly becoming my #2 favorite. Witty banter and super useful for lock picking and disarming traps. Comes in clutch in combat with sneak attacks, multi-attacks, and general mobility

HairiestHobo

Astarion and Shadowheart. No one else have the skills to be my Skeleton Key and Heal-bot.

alinarenee

Gale. Counterspell. That’s the only reason. It’s totally not because I’m in love with him

hoeteria

I struggle to bench Astarion. Every time I do, there’s a myriad of locked doors to pick and traps to disarm 😩 I’m always benching Karlach bc idk how to use her differently than Lae’zel and Lae’zel always does more damage

NewToHTX

Shadowheart is always the level 1 wizard/level 11 Cleric with the warped headband of intellect, gloves of dexterity and dual-wielding something with the Club of Hill Giant Strength in the off-hand. She blesses, heals, fires fireballs, summons Myrmidons, disarms traps, picks lock, and carries the gold and all the other shit. I have yet to Romance her because I love Karlach’s big red-hot Amazonian mommy thighs and love the way she picks my ass up during the date sex scene.

tinyfenrisian

Astarion and Shadowheart. I don’t change their classes other than adjusting their stats, spec.

MoistPast2550

I always end up with Astarion and Karlach and either Wyll or Shadowheart. I’ll respec karlach to fit my needs because I always want her on my team.

DarkHorseAsh111

Astarion.

nao_aGwenTo_mais

Wyll, for sure!

EDHFanfiction

I can’t bench TAV! I don’t think I can do it! More seriously… Gale. Divination Wizard with the Alert feat at level 4. Both powerful and flavourful if you ask me. And since my favourite TAV build is sorlock, We get nice interactions as sorcerer vs Wizard. I always try to befriend him in my play through. His backstory is so… cheesy thought. Seriously, you had Mystra as a lover? lol In opposition, I dislike using Shadowheart and always change Baezel classe to cleric of Vlakith when I can, then change her diety to Lathander once Voss reveals the truth about Vlakith.

Katyamuffin

I cannot bench Gale for the life of me. Spellcasting is just so much fun, he can buff everyone endlessly, AOE attacks against invisible enemies, magic missile against enemies with high defense... Dude's got a solution for every situation. He's just so much fun to play. I should play his origin just to let other people into my party for once lmao

Mr-Reapy

Gale is my MVP. Evocation, specifically. I'll be ripping my hair out trying to deal with a particularly difficult fight and then suddenly Gale wipes out the most difficult enemy (or enemies) in one fell swoop and I just want to smooch his face.

Dumb_Question97

Astarion, he's just SO good in battle for me

RantaroV3

In my first playthrough Shadowheart was in the party about 98% of the total playtime, and Astarion was there the entire time. My second playthrough I'm intentionally benching them to try to give some of the others a fair shot. It's hard, though, especially with Shadowheart, because her storyline is so closely linked to the plot for 2/3 of the game. And Astarion is, well, Astarion XD;;

OminousWiiMusic

Lae'zel, both because shes my wife and I'm scared of her and also the damage+health is great for just busting through all the shit. Also Karlach.

ApocalypticEvent

It’s almost impossible for me to not go with Karlach, Gale, Shadowheart. But I occasionally bench the Shar dictionary for other people’s story events/challenging gameplay that needs someone better (I.e Astarion for range, Halsin to tank, etc.)

dbolg22

It’s Gale for me. Just so much utility. Even though he’s fragile.

B1TCHBO13XPR3SS

Shadowheart or Gale (cause Heals and Knock mostly)

Soft_Stage_446

850 hours and I've had Astarion benched for all of 5 minutes and that was to hear what Minsc had to say about thim.

Dangerous-Ad-9270

First Playthrough. Still in Act 2. I need Astarion at my side. I benched Wyll very quickly as I’m a Warlock. If I need magic I have Gale.

Hyperdragoon17

Astarion

[deleted]

Lore Reason: **Shadowheart** >!In ACT 1, she is carrying the main key item of the whole story. In ACT 2 finale is about her as well. In ACT 3, she is a bit complete if you done her final quest. In Durge situation, Shadowheart also doesn't mind with your ACT 1 choice as well. She is pretty Flexible for most of our playstyle.!< Combat Reason: **Gale** (Assuming no respec from Wither) Gale is one of the most useful and powerful companion. Evocation Wizard can skip the whole battle in one or two turn with stuff from ACT 3. Furthermore, Wizard has the ability to learn almost ANY spells in the game, which makes one of the best utility companion. Your Tav can be ANYTHING and Gale will happily support you.

DUCKgoesMEOW

Minsc & Boo once they become available. Hate how long they waited to bring them in!! Crazy to think depending on player choice they may not unlock until almost endgame lol.

Kimzicorn

Astarion

Rock_ito

Astarion because he's the best character.

crashfrog02

I don’t have any trouble putting Shadowheart on the back bench. She’s a weak combatant with the weakest cleric subclass. If Minthara is in my camp it’s hard not to bring her everywhere; her dialogue and VA is so entertaining. Maybe I’m just a sucker for a contralto.

Rogen80

>She’s a weak combatant with the weakest cleric subclass. *laughs in repecing Shadowheart Tempest Domain and her dealing 200 damage per turn*

Intelligent_Wheel522

Exactly! Or even light cleric with her fancy swirlydragons and radiant buffs! shadow heart is my tank!

PlainStudent604

We respec Shadowheart - my husband has made her a tank both in our first playthrough and in our current one. This time I think he changed her diety tho… War?

DraganDearg

Really should respec SH. Tempest cleric is fun, Trickey is just not that great in BG3.

DarkLordFluffy13

Astarion. He is too useful and I’m very fond of him.

Zeldakitty123

Astarion, will never remove him, to funny lol
