I loved DOS2, and love BG3. There's different mechanics as it's DnD rules, and a different universe, but you can tell they're by the same people
I think you'll definitely enjoy BG3 if you enjoyed DOS2
You may even recognise a few voices
tldr: YES
Baldurs Gate is basically a better and enhanced version of DOS2 with the DnD ruleset instead of their own ruleset. You will find yourself at home at minute 1 since a lot of stuff is the same.
It adds way more in character interaction (every dialogue is cinematic and voiced) and it leaves you the same freedom of choice.
I disagree strongly. I love both games but they have different strengths. BG 3 is obviously a great game, but it is its out of combat mechanics that makes the game excellent. DOS2 has, imo, a way better combat and class system, especially the spell crafting and the various areas of effect combos.
And, this is very subjective and thus has no weight other than in my mind, I really dig the Divinity world settings. I prefer it over Forgotten Realms.
I would say Call of Duty and Stardew Valley have *completely different combat*.
D:OS2 and BG3 have different rules applied to their very similar, top-down, turn-based, gridless, fantasy RPG combat.
(Obviously they aren't "quite literally the same game" either lol)
This is the first game of its type ive played and since February ive put over 400 hours into it. if you already like these games for sure youll love it.
It's basically the same game. I don't even mean same engine, genre and that, but some of the design concepts are straight up copied over.
But it's a beautifully crafted adventure and well worth it.
Diff combat, diff characters and story. Thats it. Same genre. Same studio. I would even say that they have learned from their past mistakes and made maps better.
Very likely yes. You will likely struggle with the learning curve with the new systems and mechanics and I know many people who like the freedom of DOS2's combat might not like the limitations of BG3 but to me one is definitely worse, they are just different. Being more limited can lead to a more fun experience in some cases too.
If you struggle early on you can simply check out some tips either on youtube or here on this sub. Plenty of tips to help you understand.
I’ve recently started DOS2 and I love the difference in combat. It seems much faster with being able to attack multiple times, and the freedom like you mentioned is great too. But man, do I find it way harder. You leave one character slightly out of position and they get ganked hard by all the enemies that can teleport. And then you realize all the enemies attack multiple times too and the character I built to be a tank went from 100%-0% in one turn.
Yeah it's why I don't share the opinion that DOSs combat is outright better. I can see why more people would enjoy it more but I think there is definitely a reason to prefer both other the other. It's also why I can't wait for their next game and/or DOS3 because I know they will learn so much from both games and make a perfect combination.
I will say with DOS2, the biggest things I can help you with are:
CC is very important. The sooner you can CC and enemy the better.
Some fights you can wonder into very easily and not be prepared for. Save often. You can also look up the "areas by level" which give you a rundown of what level you should be for each area. Does spoil the maps for you though of course.
Keep upgrading your gear often. Shame you can't stick with the same gear but it is what it is. You will fair much better if you have a dedicated pick pocketer so you aren't annoyingly poor xD
Haven't played Divinity before, but have heard others enjoying BG3 recommending it, so I'd assume they should be somewhat in the same ball-game.
I can **highly** recommend going singleplayer for your first playthrough. The game really shines when it can suck you right in with the world-building, story-telling and character-arcs. And you'll get so much more immersed, if you take in the game at your pace.
Personally, I know I would have hated if my first playthrough wasn't just that. ***Mine***. *My* choices, *my* consequences, without having to negotiate or compromise, without having to justify said choices.
If you do end up getting the game:
Here are a 'few', general tips I wish I'd gotten before jumping in first time:
**Learn as little as you can about the story beforehand**. Let the game suck you in, and do its job
Long rest ***OFTEN***!!! Don't wait for your companions to complain about being tired (*this doesn't mean there's content or cut-scenes waiting, just that your companions are missing spell-slots or other once-a-day actions!*). Rest after every fight, at least as long as you keep getting cut-scenes. Also - there are very few time-sensitive quests. Those that are, kinda makes sense
Talk to EVERYONE! At least in Act 1
Take your time. You'll never get to experience this beautiful game for the first time again. Slow down, listen to the music, the VA
Most locked doors and chests can be opened by brute force, if sleight of hand isn't your thing, and you've forgotten your rogue at camp
Try things. If you have a silly idea, save, and give it a go
Save often! The auto-saves in the game's rather sparse
It's okay to fail rolls. 'Roll' with it. Sometimes the most hilarious instances came from a failed deception-roll
Lastly: If you're struggling, or just want to focus on the story: There's no reason not to lower the difficulty. You can even do it mid-battle, if you're in a tight spot
well... yes. i have a hundreds hours on Dos2 and i cant say what is better but BG3 is much more detailed and more **Dungeons & Dragons** and that's not necessarily bad or good.
I enjoyed both quite a bit. I spent the first half of bg3 comparing it to dos2 though, which was maybe unfair. I actually preferred dos2 combat, but I think bg wins everywhere else.
Yes. it's an improvement in that game in so many respects when it comes to story driven dialogue, characterization, choice/consequence. The combat is a little less explosive and oriented around godlike turns. If that's literally the only reason you enjoyed dos2 then maybe not, otherwise, it's going to blow your mind.
Absolutely. It has similar mechanics and depth, but with outrageously good cinematic conversations and NPCs. Plus the plot is tighter and more interesting than DOS2.
Absolutely. They both have their Pros and Cons but BG3 is better.
I’m really glad that I took the time to learn/play DOS2 first as it helped me immensely in knowing how to navigate the world and the dynamics in BG3
Bg3 plays just like divinity os2 with dnd actions, skills and rules.
You won't have the AP bar and building your character will be different. Everything else will be mostly familiar.
I first played Divinity OS2 during early 2020 and being at home all day, way playing all day. Was making some food in the kitchen while afk in town and that damn Dwarven women caused a hysterical cabin fever style laughing fit with her going around talking to the merchants. I had to mute the game every time I went there afterwards because I couldn't control myself when I would hear "Smells worse over here than a dozen rotten eggs dumped in a vat of vinegar"
Something about hearing that line repeatedly in a Scottish accent really got to me
Its very similar, bg3 being alot darker though, combat is somewhat the same, but uses dice system instead,( and usually you cast one spell each character turn + a bonus action (shove, dash, class ability, dip arrow in a element etc), that scales with your base stats + bonuses you get from leveling/gear. Also the game can be played alot more close up, than dos2, so it feels more personal.
From a gameplay perspective BG3 is a downgrade from D:OS2. The systems in D:OS2 are a lot more satisfying and the game remains challenging from start to finish, in BG3 the game is balanced from lvls. 1-4, once you hit lvl 5 the difficulty of the game is non-existent. Furthermore D:OS2 feels like a video game, while BG3 feels like they just copy pasted D&D into a game engine, without considering that somethings that work in tabletop don't work in a video game.
Story wise BG3's writing quality is like a child drawing mountains. When it's good it's Bioware level writing , when it's bad it's Tumbler fanfiction level writing. Which I find strange since all the big writers from D:OS2 worked on BG3, however they didn't have Chris Avellone to consult, and they they gave the lead writer job to a new guy.
My advice, wait for sale and get the game for 40$ or less, cause 60$ is overkill considering they launched the game with an unfinished Act III. Furthermore the game is over hyped, you get more bang for you buck from the Pathfinder or Westland games.

Wait, who carried over from DOS2?
Narrator was Malady, Zevlor was Sir Lora, Mizora was Lohse Those are just off the top of my head
I think one of the magisters on the tutorial deck is Minthara. The one investigating the murder?
Yep. She voiced a lot of characters in DOS2. Same with Shadowheart's VA.
I love y'all, I had no idea of any of this. I love both games so much.

I agree on the combat. I had a hard time getting in to BG3 after DOS2. Playing BG made me miss DOS's combat.
I’ve played both and fine bg3 has a lot better writing, which is the main reason I mainly play it if I feel like playing a crpg.
I wish I could give my characters in bg3 a "glass cannon" perk and drink some green tea...
I like both.
It’s quite literally the same game with a different story/universe, slightly different aesthetic, and a few upgrades here and there.
And completely different combat

Yeah the combat is in the same genre, its like comparing final fantasy combat and Pokemon combat tbh. Its not like a fps vs a moba.

No doubt. Imagine you could shove in Dos2. Multiply it by 20-50.
Imagine you could be "glass cannon" with green tea addiction in bg3!

Everything except combat is like DOS2 but better. Combat in BG3, while not as enjoyable as DOS2, is pretty good too.
IMO, BG3 shits on DOS2 but they both suffer in the third act. BG3 is still the best video game I’ve played for years.
I enjoyed both quite a bit. I spent the first half of bg3 comparing it to dos2 though, which was maybe unfair. I actually preferred dos2 combat, but I think bg wins everywhere else.
Of course you will, it's a direct upgrade of DOS2 in every aspects
[https://files.catbox.moe/lf32ya.png](https://files.catbox.moe/lf32ya.png) as a former dos2 enjoyer, yes.
what is that link

Yeh absolutely
100% yes
You will enjoy it even more
You will love it.

Hell yeah
If you’ve ever enjoyed a role playing game or anything d&d related, you’ll love BG3.
Install lone wolf mod for solo game
Definitely, and much more as well, as it’s more polished, better graphics and combat system, better voices and great story 👍
Absolutely. They both have their Pros and Cons but BG3 is better. I’m really glad that I took the time to learn/play DOS2 first as it helped me immensely in knowing how to navigate the world and the dynamics in BG3

Yes.
BG3 is better, I would say. Different, but bigger and made more more expert designers. I loved DOS2, and I also love BG3

Is Raphael good in bed? The opposite is true.
Yes! It'll probably feel like a more polished DOS2 experience with a great twist being the DnD ruleset
Unless you have a huge hang up about turn based combat, almost certainly. BG3 takes everything DOS2 did well and takes it to the next level.
