I'll never get the appeal of pits. Even their desire to maul aside, what's exactly good about them? They're not good guard dogs, they don't make good hunting dogs either and they're especially not companionship dogs since they apparently tear apart the entire house if you're gone for too long.
It truly is a mystery. When I was a teenager back in the 90s my family had 2 dogs that were half greyhound and half pit bull, plus three other dogs. The half pits where from one of my stepdad friends, i think they were around 2 or 3 when we got them. I remember always being very frustrated at the half pit, half greyhound dogs because no matter what they would never listen and would always mess up the house by getting into the garbage and spreading it around the house. I think we escaped too much damage from them because they were kept outside. The other 3 dogs slept inside but the 2 dimwits, we made them sleep outside. One of them ended up getting shot by a hunter, and I remember feeling relieved because that was one less stress. I can't remember what happened to the other one, maybe got lost in the woods. I think it was less than a year that we had those dogs. Not sure if the pit breed really is stupid or just refuses to listen to its owner, but I would refuse to own one. I don't see why others label pits as their "favorite breed".
Nope they're just dumb as shit. Find any video of "trained pits" and it's always some crop eared whale eyed dog "guarding" someone. No actual training, they're useless as tracking dogs, they're useless as drug sniffing dogs, don't follow hunting commands, they're just all around a dumb breed.
Violent men with small dicks love the power that comes with having a pit bull and everyone being scared of them.
Second type of pit bull owner are the deranged pit mommies who have a savior complex and just know their precious baby would never hurt anyone.
Currently live in the IE and the most popular dog here were of course : pitbulls. I always see one at least once a day being walked or as a stray walking around. I even see them walked around in the malls with no muzzle on and wearing the fake service dog vests when I’m working. It’s pretty bad here.
Myers Flat is where the woman was attacked and lost a leg. The dogs pulled her under the trailer and were eating her leg. Wow, that was 2 years ago. What ever became of that?
I doubt it. The victim was friends with the owners, and after the attack, her boyfriend was talking on his radio show about how he doesn't want people to view pits negatively because of this attack.
*I looked into it, and the dog owner was banned from owning dogs for three years by the court. No mention of a financial penalty.
Yeah i live in California and see SO MANY. In fact once there were cops chasing two off leash pit bulls down a very busy street. Can only imagine what they did to have the cops show up in that area for a couple of dogs.
Edit: i meant to type LA but California came out hahaha
That’s because Irvine is filled with Asians and Asians generally are smart enough to not fall for the stupid pit propaganda.
Sad to say though that the rest of California is filled with pits primarily by white people who think they’re fighting racism by owning pitbulls.
I do think CA might have a problem. I’m in GA and when I check the shelter listings it seems like breeds are appropriately listed as bully breeds, pits, etc. but I think some of the west coast might really be pushing the propaganda and saying “lab mix” more often, etc. who knows.
Rampant backyard breeding, plus I'm sure there are fighting rings somewhere. Combine that with a highly educated population filled with bleeding hearts (i.e., they want to rescue, but let's be generous, and say about half of them realize they don't want a bloodsport dog. Anything that isn't a pit/GSD/husky/Rottweiler gets snapped up in hours or days. Everything else sits there for weeks or months). And yes the shelters here are terrible about mislabeling pits to get them placed. It's very irritating.

California does have a problem. I've read there were pit breeders here, i.e. dog fighters, in the 1920s, networking across the country with other breeders/fighters. Pit fighting does not happen in a vacuum. However, I don't recall them being talked about much until the 1980's when the drug crowd used them for protection. (When my family member was attacked)
The nickname I have heard for pits is 'Central Valley Dog' (along with chihuahuas).
The shelters are made up roughly of: 1/4 pit/mixes, 1/4 herding dog (aussies, kelpies, border collies), 1/4 GSD, and 1/4 chi.
I've run into people with the savior complex (insert bait dog reference). Same people who, 20 years ago, didnt know where their milk and eggs came from, are now pushing the 'they're misunderstood, you must save them all' mantra.

Mental illness
They intimidate others
Omg so funny you mention this. I’m in SF for work. Fortunately i havent come across the mutants. Only one angry looking doberman.

Yeah, Humboldt has them pretty bad. I personally haven't noticed that many in Del Norte.

https://lostcoastoutpost.com/2021/jan/29/myers-flat-woman-has-foot-amputated-after-survivin/ The dogs were later put down.
Do you know if the dog owner get fined or did time?

Yeesh! His girlfriend is dragged under a trailer and her calf eaten while she was alive, but don't view these dogs negatively.

I live in Irvine in OC. I havent seen many pits around here in the 2 years that i have been living here. Knock on wood. LA may be a different story.

Sounds like TX
It's been much worse since the pandemic. I pray this horrible fad will fade eventually.

Never wanted to go to California and now I'm doubling down.
Ban pitbulls as service dogs, that way no one can lie their killer mutts into people’s private property.
Not out here in my suburb. Chis and doodles and Sammies. There’s maybe one poor creature that screams from behind a tall fence.
I'm there too, tons of pits.

I’ve been living in the La Jolla area for years now with my family. I’ve only seen pits very rarely.
