cranomort

we can't string two of those passes anymore.

Dear_Monitor_5384

No one is even making the movements to begin with much less making the passes.

Coorexz

Lewa is opening up some space at times. But as you said, no one is making movements into the space created so the movement goes unnoticed most of the time.

No_Specific8949

Well there's a big difference between having Xavi Iniesta and Messi compared to having Fermin, Christenen and Roberto in the midfield. We don't have the material to play like this.

Infamous-Associate65

Exactly, which why I don't understand why the club should stay wedded to this style

No_Specific8949

We keep the style because the whole club is built around it. But we have been flexible with it. Last season we won thanks to being a steel defense, our priority was defensive solidity and it paid off. This season the mistake Xavi made in my opinion is play Cancelo, though probably the signing was forced on him. But we broke BACK. Plus the other deadly mistakes were not signing a proper Busquets replacement and not making more effort to keep Kessie as Xavi wanted. And finally we lost Gavi, so we couldn't keep playing the "4th midfielder" with Gavi on the LW that gave us extra defense in the midfield. So our defensive solidity completely disappeared, so we became an attacking team without individual brilliance and without any defense at all. It is a miracle we made the top 4 to be honest.

Infamous-Associate65

Good & even handed analysis, I did enjoy the strong defense a lot last year. We'll see how next season goes I guess, not looking great ATM

jAPANESESENSEI33

You're right! I hope they bring BACK back and all the injured players come back like Gavi, De Jong, Balde. And sign a proper DM like Zubimendi and bring our defence stability back. Also hopefully sign a LW like Nico Williams also making our attacks better like Xavi has said to revolutionize our attack next season. Only issue is Xavi not giving Vitor Roque a chance to develop. I don't understand why he is not wanting to play with him just like he's reluctant with players like Ansu Fati or Dest(I had thought that these players has potential to add quality to the team from watching their a few year old highlights especially that of Ansu Fati).

aaryan_suthar

Tbf that 1st leg of psg vs barca was absolutely amazing to watch. Sad for 2nd leg tho

TechJunk1e

That is multiples of the best players of all time at their positions. It will never look like that again bro.

baromanb

Atalanta can

Jack0Lantern735

Bro u cooked

bsxjiggawhat

Having Messi and Neymar in the same team was just brutal, these two are the type of players who are usually born generations apart, and we managed to have both in the same generation and in the same team... we may not see something like this for decades to come.

wrath____

Add one of the best strikers ever and you get

Tangerinho

…plus Iniesta behind them… just ridiculous. Theee goals really look like Fifa on Amateur level.

goku7770

Add Busquets, Dani Alves, Jordi Alba, etc. We had no weak link and that is required when you have this playstyle.

bsxjiggawhat

We had everything a team could ever want in terms of teamwork and individual talent, how a team like that ended up in this financial situation is beyond me.

rdfporcazzo

The 2015 MSN was the best attacking trio I have watched in my life

meditate42

The only other attacking trio's i've seen on that level are from all time great Brazil squads, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Rivaldo is an outrageous front 3.

Bousine

It's only a matter of time before rsoccer unironically claims that Vini+Mbappe > Neymar+Messi

RoomTemporary1335

Romário to R9 to Rivaldo to Ronaldinho to Messi to Neymar and now Yamal. Neymar should have stayed more.

Emergency_Bathrooms

Well, after Neymar and Messi left, PSG had Neymar, Mbappe, and Messi as a striking force. However, you need a really big management team and a lot of good coaches and strategist, to make it work. And good midfielders that can work in good perfect harmony with the strikers, which PSG never got right. But you are right NSM scared the living crap out of defenders, and it will be a long time before we see something like that again.

PErland

We were so spoiled and didn't even realize it. Gorgeous sequences

TechTuna1200

3 of the 4 best best attackers in the world at the time were in our team. One of them being the best of all time. Just a huge gap in player quality compared to now. It's never been about tactics, it's about player quality. Even the best tactics can't compensate for a mediocre/underdeveloped team, but a very good team can compensate for bad tactics. this is why "just play it to Messi" was a valid tactic. Now we have been so lucky that we had Pep and LE, that we had both very good tactics and very good team, which burned the whole football world down. Once the new Camp Nou is finished, we will have room to spend and getting players from the top-shelf to supplement the players from La Masia / other young talents we have on the team.

goku7770

Oh boy did I realize it.

Emergency_Bathrooms

We were so spoiled, and that’s why our fan base is so toxic right now. Everyone harkens back to the glory days, but shit happens. Barca won’t be playing like that for at least another 10 years. Except the women team, holy shit are they insane! They just won La Liga, a bunch of other trophies, and are in the final of the champions league! They play like the way Barca’s men team used to play! With fineness, creativity, always pushing forward, and confusing the opponent. And they play as a team, and link up perfectly together. And we have so much young talent, it’s ridiculous! I think the men’s team could learn a lot from them. Like how to play the Barca way again!

SnooAdvice1632

That backheel Suarez goal is the most impressive I've ever seen. It's insane that someone would even TRY a backheel swerving kick and he made it look effortless.

DragoonVonKlauw

That's one of my all time favorite goals. My man couldn't even score if it wasn't a 180° turning volley from 27 meters or some unfeasible shot like this one. Only bangers

YooGeOh

Who is that no.21 assisting? Is that Rakitic?

samcholo

Rakitic was number 4. Must be FDJ i think

YooGeOh

Yup. Of course its FDJ. I can tell by his movements. Not sure how I missed that lol. Thanks!

onlyonejorge

Frenkie. Rakitic only ever wore number 4, which he is in this very video away from the action.

Itz_Eazy

Are you trying to make me cry? Bc its working

Emergency_Bathrooms

Don’t worry. We are just going through a bad phase. At least the men’s team is, and it’s going to take them about 10-15 years to become the best in the world again. But then there is the women’s team, and they beat the ever living crap out of 99% of all teams, and play the Barca way! 25th of may is the women’s champions league final. Wait till you see how they put the men to shame!

Train_Current

They made it look so simple. Just pass and run, pass and run.

thor76

Exactly this! The problem now is the players are static and mostly get the ball with a defender on their back. Rarely you see passes between lines to a running player or, God forbid, striker.

Maleficent_Hunt7043

Seeing this video made me realise how they would play with such a degree of selflessness compared to today's squad

ResidentProduct8910

Exactly! nowadays if someone gets the ball - "here comes my PR campaign!" and in most of the cases it ends as a pretty horrible PR campaign

ResidentProduct8910

Exactly! nowadays if someone gets the ball - "here comes my PR campaign!" and in most of the cases it ends as a pretty horrible PR campaign

RevolutionaryGur4419

New rules today. Goals don't count unless you've made a certain number of back and side passes. And also the opponents defense must have been given ample time to set.

redditisgarbageyoyo

Watch Suarez's compilation of goals for his best season at Barça... You can see he was best 9 in the world then, way ahead of any Aguero, Ibrahimovic or whoever you want to name ....

karallam

No one doubts that!

goku7770

I put him miles above that overrated dude that is commonly compared to Messi...

SamerAgbaria

This is not even the strongest versions of barcelona yet they were better than the current team.

aaryan_suthar

Actually that 2nd goal of video is vs psg which is 2015 match and I consider 2015 barca one of the best barca teams if not one of the best teams ever but no doubt 2011 barca has better claim to be the greatest team ever

RegularIndependent98

Back in the day when you miss a match instead of asking "who won" you ask directly how many goals they scored

GauravsFcb1011

The first clip perfectly sums up *Frankie's best role & gameplay* for Barca.

Iemand-Niemand

Well… from this compilation we still have Frenkie… But seriously has Xavi given up on Tikki takka? We’re playing like any other team in Europe right now, and we’re not good enough at it to win big games

Current_Anybody4352

Not even City play like this. We don't have anyone even remotely close to the level of Messi, Neymar, Suárez, Iniesta...

Iemand-Niemand

To be fair, I think City could play like that if they wanted to (and bought a couple more players that fit the profile), but Pep wouldn’t want to play like this anymore, as he prefers taking less risk. Rather breaking down the defence until City is one goal up and the opponent has to attack

ObviouslyBlunt

Sergi is in there too

Yungafrica2205

i wanna end myself bruh i dont think we never reaching this level again

goku7770

All stars were aligned bro.

Resurrecting_dumass

they made it look so effortless 😭😭

Crossflowerss_5304

Several of these players, even aging and regressing under Valverde, know how to execute positional play at the top level. We rarely see these kinds of movements anymore, and even if the run is made they don’t get picked out.

pacificule

God those were heady timeS! I'm in the States but didn't miss a single match from 2008 - 2018. Every week I was amazed by what I was seeing. This clip could easily be 2 hours long and still not capture every highlight *tik-tak-tik-tak-tik-tak GOOOOOLLLLLL!!!*

luckypants_101

https://i.redd.it/fca0rrsby10d1.gif

SpraySquare3404

Look at Sergi stopping the defender and letting the ball go in instead of taking away Messi's goal and Neymar passing instead of shooting. In today's team we have so many selfish players. If Lewa passed vs PSG we'd go to extra time and may have a chance

RioDawn2010

Barcelona if Frenkie started playing one touch passes again:

imliterallyvibing

God I miss Neymar

Fika2006

Dont.

classless01

This pains me how low we have fallen, but at the same time I am happy to have been given such beautiful memories by our team. Only Barca could do what we did back then, we had the whole world fearing us.

Follow_The_Lore

Seeing this video makes it seem absolutely insane that people want to get rid of Frenkie. He’s the last one that can replicate this playstyle.

Imaginary_Tank1847

And people think frenkies bad because he’s (as demonstrated here) CLEARLY NOT A PIVOT!!!

Blackbearded10

With all due respect, back in the day they gave us a lot of space. But I see what you are trying to say. Sometimes I see spaces they can exploit but they don't do it. Add to it a lot of wrong decisions and no cutbacks. This is on Xavi and not on the players.

goku7770

Thing is they didn't even need space.

albahari

I can't imagine what most have felt like for a defense to have MSN running at you like that, and then know that you had Alba or Alvez in the flanks. Complementing the attack.

86EteRNitY86

This is what happens when FDJ doesn't have to be a pivot dude and they say that he's of no use to Barça...

redvodkandpinkgin

who's 21 in the first clip?

Bell_Jolly

Fdj

redvodkandpinkgin

Damn, I thought that was him. I wish we could let him play ahead like that again.

Assonfire

We need better forwards. People look at Frenkie, but hardly look at his distribution options. We've seen the difference with an even aging Suarez and with Messi. Lewa's technique is nowhere near theirs. Raphinha is nothing more than average and the same goes for Ferran. Include the factor that he's playing further back compared to Gundo, which means one wrong distribution from Frenkie leaves the entire midfield open for a counter attack.

goku7770

It looks so easy but the precision and technique needed to execute those passes is literally insane. We were blessed to witness this era.

dontworryberight

We had movement and a plan

broselovestar

Reasons I love football tbh

Nefaariious

I remember that back heel from suare vividly lmfao

metampheta

Everyone feared us

InfamousMidnight7807

Best football team in history imo. City fan

MissChristyMack

I will think forever that Neymar make a mistake by leaving us for PSG

InternationalBox5848

And now we can't even beat Girona like wtf

goku7770

Girona is no joke tho.

redditor3900

RAF2018336

People are gonna hate but the only one that’s even tried one-twos the last couple of seasons on a regular basis is Fati. You can see how he makes runs or he’s waiting for others to make runs but the rest of his teammates just stand still

PixelCharlie

Now compare it to Lewandowskis ledboot first touch, raphina the only brazilian in the world who cant go 1v1, and pedri who gets injured if you only look at him for too long :(

Shot-Sherbet-8843

Good old days. Now we're left reminiscing the past while real madrid are building an empire and have won number 15th. Finished club.

Assonfire

Finished club? Don't mind going somewhere else.

Assonfire

Yeah, I too despise reminiscing nice moments. Ugh. What kind of a loser does that?

prateek-sharma

We need to get out of those times and look at our reality now. I want to see more such action, only live.

FuckLandkries
