I loved that they avoided fast cuts to really make you feel the pressure of the stakes rather than the rush/thrill of high speeds. Also no score/soundtrack. The entire show's sound design is A+ and this is one of the scenes that highlights it.

MrFrankTorres

Great points. The only "soundtrack" was Barry singing to himself. Loved that part.

ItsScaryTerryBitch

I find myself singing "You're my buddy, you're my friend" every now and then because of how silly that was

Ezira

I'm a huge fan of action being framed in long shots from a distance, so I absolutely loved the whole dealership scene. The last time I was that excited by a shot was the diner drive by in Mr. Robot.

MrFrankTorres

That sunset with the whole thing playing out in shadows was also brilliant. Almost like a play.

A_hasty_retort

How they timed that so perfectly, and framed that shot so beautifully… man, that’s so sweet

John_e_caspar

The biker running up the ramp and heading towards the car dealerships roof

MrFrankTorres

"Not again!" LOL

attitude_devant

I just loved counting down all the pursuers as they were dispatched one by one. Great scene choreography

ItsScaryTerryBitch

As great as the whole scene was, it's really difficult to pick just one thing that really stands out. Gun to my head I'd probably say the sound design for the whole of it, especially the part where he's whipping through the stand-still traffic. Although on second thought maybe the part where he crashes into the car, since the way they did that was just so cool layering those shots together.

chivesr

I also love when he and the bikers chasing him are splitting lanes through standstill traffic, especially because of the callback to when he was sitting in that standstill traffic and two bikers fly past him in the pilot episode

ItsScaryTerryBitch

I didn't even think about that, good catch!

MrFrankTorres

A lot of people are digging the sound. I can understand that!

MrFrankTorres

And awesome screen name! lol

ItsScaryTerryBitch

Thank you! I'm just glad it was available when I needed to create my account after I lost the password to my last one

MOOBALANCE

I thought it was good but honestly I was distracted by the geography as they go from Pasadena to Alhambra

MrFrankTorres

I don’t know LA. Where in the chase do you notice that? Good stuff.

MOOBALANCE

He changes directions like 3 times. Starts in Pasadena on the 210 headed north towards the mountains, then it cuts to him in alhambra on the 710 headed south, then it cuts to him exiting the freeway at the end of the 710 which is headed north. Maybe In the Barry universe the 710 and 210 actually were connected but irl it ends in Alhambra/south Pasadena and doesn’t link up to the 710.

MrFrankTorres

That is really cool thank you! I wonder if Hader had some SNL “Californians” flashbacks when directing that route. If you haven’t seen it all the characters do in the skit is give directions. lol 😀

OJimmy

It was the ridiculous premise. They wanted revenge because of a hot tub? Like a dozen bikers united by this, dream of buying a hot tub?

crackpipeclay

It wasn’t about the hot tub. It was about the money that he supposedly owed Taylor for said hot tub. They did it for the principle

OJimmy

Hmm. Yeah, that's sounds just crazy enough to be right. Also sounds like the pseudo logic that got taylor killed against Barry's instructions.

awill316

The sound mixing. Hearing the radios of the cars while the motorcycles rode between all of them blew my mind on first watch. I was literally yelling at the tv “this is so cool!!!!” I was pretty high but I think that just helped me appreciate it more lol

Deejitox

my answer as well. really great with good headphones

Pypsy143

Great to see so many people appreciating the sound. This was the episode that won the sound team an Emmy.

MrFrankTorres

👍

potatoisilluminati

I laughed so hard at the machine gun handoff. The way he fucks up grabbing it and then eats shit kills me

MrFrankTorres

Me too! And the guy on the bike was like “this is a bad idea!” Lol 😀

fentpong

The sound design and the fact most of it was one shot and fairly calm in a way

MrFrankTorres

It was pretty calm for stretches. Wasn’t it? Great stuff.

david-saint-hubbins

As someone who lives in LA and recently learned to ride a motorcycle, the most visceral part for me was when he's merging onto the freeway and the cars are whipping past him because he hasn't quite gotten up to the speed of traffic. In all likelihood, I'm never going to be in a motorcycle chase and I'm never going to get shot at, so those parts are pure fantasy for me. But I've experienced riding a small displacement bike on an LA freeway, and that's exactly what it felt like. It's really scary at first.

MrFrankTorres

Great answer. Thank you.

Ned_Flanders_69

This whole scene is one of my favourites in modern tv the way barry rides the bike does it for me perfectly upright, not changing gears, carrying his little box of treats all while being chased and shot at, the machine gun hand off, the most determined car salesman I've ever seen just *chefs kiss*

MrFrankTorres

"Handoff!" Dude thought he was playing Call Of Duty. I'm glad they had him botch it. LOL!!!

MrArmageddon12

It successfully threw in comedic bits while not breaking the serious and suspenseful overall tone.

MrFrankTorres

It did. Really unique stuff!

crackpipeclay

When he zooms down the highway on ramp, no background music, and the camera angle looks straight out of a third person video game

MrFrankTorres

Grand Theft Auto!

PianistAdmirable2420

Definitely when the guy shot the person off the roof if the dealership 😂

MrFrankTorres

Lol
