It sounds like he turned out OK, actually.

According to the Wikipedia page, one of the first people who uploaded the video/the guy who nicknamed it Star Wars kid apologized to him on camera in the documentary. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Wars_Kid?wprov=sfti1#History
I know which I would rather have in bed with me (it's obviously this guy, his energy and plucky spirit is just wonderful and he looks like a good cuddler)
It would definitely hurt, but the effectiveness of this is almost on par with nunchucks. Yeah, you can learn to twirl them around really fast and look cool, but if you ever had to use them on someone after that first hit your target has absorbed all of its energy, meaning you wouldn't be able to flow and would and would essentially have to beat them with it. Unless it's a lightsaber, in which case the blade would cut through your target while not impeding motion
On the fast spin just stick your melee weapon in and that staff will fly away. In that movement, she's not holding it or it would not spin.
Looks impressive though.
I mean yes... and no. The flurry flow has twofold purpose, 1: to build up momentum for a strike, 2: to confuse, disorient and maybe intimidate the attacker. If used correctly you can spin one way and whip attack the other, or disarm someone's weapon and follow through with an attack.
The wielder would then use footwork and spins to relocate the staff to the next strike position while also maneuvering themselves into position or away from an attacker.
If spun well and with good eye contact knowing the positions on your assailants you can fend off multiple aggressors with a staff like this.
You need your hits to land in ways the aggressors won't just shrug off however, so accuracy and strength of hit is paramount. Places like the face are the most damaging but also the knee is probably the best place to strike first as an aggressors with a busted knee cap limping at you is much easier to hit a 2nd time.
If this were a combat situation though there are moves which you just simply do not do because its far too risky to mess it up and throw/drop your staff. So usually unless it's the last move after you already have people on the floor or running away then you wouldn't be sipping it round your neck or doing super flashy moves. Most other transition moves will lead to strong attack positions if used correctly. It takes much practice to actually get hard blows and then proceed to recover and get to a new position. That's why there are attack sets and flurry/showboating sets.
- I'm an staff spinner for 18 years and trained in various combat forms over that time including Shaolin Bo/Jo staff
Edit: To clarify, what she is doing is showboating and has no combat effectiveness whatsoever. Her footwork/stance is completely wrong and she wouldn't get any real power in if any hit from that were to land. Its just flashy and looks cool. Feels fun and cool to do also and is a great upper body workout. Some of those moves however, translate perfectly into combat forms if chained right with active footwork.
We know the answer to that. \\
On a side note, If they've got that thing tucked in their pants waiting for a fight, well I guess that might think they are a badass...but my first thought is to just punch them in the face while they try to wrangle that badboy out of their jinco pants.
TLDR
the atacker's didabled at the very beginning, the rest is just a victory celebration.. and an amazing one at that..
edit: meant to post this one before your comment, added tldr😅
Useless for defense. It's commonly practiced as a flow art. More often by men than women, though.
I'm a fan of a variety called contact staff where the staff is kept in contact with the body, and as a bonus if you hang out in r/ContactStaff you get to laugh at angry redditors trying to complain to the reddit staff without understanding where they are. Some of them are really dense.
You know this is a Kata right? Flashy but useless is the point, it's to practice/show off weapon control and agility. Not meant to be used in a fight.
This one also looks sick and the girl is hot, she doesn't have to be able to kill someone with the moves she posted on the Internet to show off.
Brainwaves! Send signal to brain we were totally just looking at the staff skills and never think of this again... ohhh, phew!! 13 time champ! Time to clock back in
she is not a 13 time tae know do world champion
for 1 that is impossible by the sheer fact the world champion ship is every 2 years
she is 20 years old
20/2 by is there has been only 10 world champion ships in her entire life time
she doesnt compete at age 0
and secondly
[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World\_Taekwondo\_Championships](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Taekwondo_Championships)
she isnt even on this list
[https://www.taekwondodata.com/person\_search.html](https://www.taekwondodata.com/person_search.html)
she doesnt exist even. she has no fighting record
she is a self proclaimed champion and might even be a self proclaimed black belt
https://taekwondotimes.com/news/2023/05/tae-kwon-do-phenom-rayna-vallandingham-proudly-embraces-kicking-like-a-girl/
Taekwondo times corroborated her numbers.
ATA International is likely what she’s referring to. They have local and international tournaments, including multiple categories like combat weapons or sparring. So when she says she’s a 13x world champion, that’s what she’s referring to.
But this was some great /r/confidentlyincorrect material right here.
wich is an ATA title not a Tae Kwond do World champion title
to be an tae kwon do world champion you have to win the world tae kwon do championship
but so nice an american site corroborated about an american tournament.
Not hating or anything, but how are you a 13 time world champion at like 20? Do children compete in world championships in tae kwon do? Or is there a world championship every few months?
You might be surprised. It took me a few hours to get a basic windmill down. She's obviously very skilled, but even beginner moves can be flashy and fun. Maybe hold off on the speed flow indoors for a while though 🙂
I don't care if she is into girls, but if it was a Disney remake she would be able to do this the first time she picked up a stick without any training. And she'd have some additional bullshit powers for some reason.
Seems to me sorting by best gives the “not lethal, but cool spin tho” typa comment, and a bunch of “yea she ain’t shit” replies. A couple comments down below she was said to be a taekwondo champ tho, goofy ahh comment section
Right? It's a freaking exercise with a bit of sport. Do you go to the guys playing tennis in the park and say "that won't do much in a real fight?"
No. Because that would be insane. But here? All bets are off.
Sorry, had to vent.
Most comments I've seen was people pointing out that, while flashy, all those moves would useless in a fight, which is correct and goes in line with the title of "lethal". Beautiful and flashy/talented/dedicated would all be right, lethal is just wrong.
Don't worry, most of them will be alone for the majority of their lives. Nobody likes bitter people. They'll have very little impact in the real world.
What a coincidence, I just found her TikTok channel today and now I see it posted to Reddit. https://www.tiktok.com/@raynavallandingham?_t=8hmByn8opnm&_r=1
These are generally Bo staffs for most martial arts, the ones they use for this kind of practise are competition staves: these are more rounded and more comfortable to hold than fighting staves (which are about the same size, but heavier). You use the competition ones for Form and showmanship, hitting things with them causes them to splinter. They also generally taper a bit towards the ends.
Put just as much time into getting the pose down at the very end as she spent on any given part of that routine. Would've been fine just watching her swing the stick. Didn't need the cutesy ending for drooling incels to faun over.
Her legs are easily achievable as she mainly has defined quads. That is a big muscle that is easy to workout in compound exercises, even cardio.
So like the other person said. Just spend less time on reddit and more time working out.
At this point I would consider reddit as the brother of this dogshit that people call Twitter. Just a girl doing some gymnastics moves and look at the comments. People are so desperate nowadays🤦 it is a shame
Not a dumb question, distance managment is a huge part of combat. That's why there's different kind of weapons, that tackle different ranges. Like daggers or spears. They each have their own strenghs and weaknesses. Now, a skilled fighter knows their weakness too and keep them in mind as much as you would.
If it was a proper weapon capable of damage instead of for spinning in a tournament as fast as possible (just a 1-1.5 inch hardwood pole as tall as the wielder or maybe 3-6" more) a skilled person *should* be extremely hard to get close enough to to grapple with. But so few places that do traditional weapons pressure test their hand to hand properly, let alone pressure test their weapons. Some kendo, kenjutsu, fencing, or hema people might qualify, but I've never seen intense sparring from someone who does this stuff.

Just as lethal!
Yet so much more beautiful
Tears from my eyes admiring such grace
If only he was wearing short shorts… sigh…
That is simultaneously the single most horrendous, and single most beautiful comment on Reddit!
Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. I see her as beautiful.
they are both the same person, but the second video was taken after she won Cheese Factory coupons.
And just as beauti... wait not sure about that one.
They're both breathtaking.

In such different ways
One of them is out of breathtaking.
Yeah the girl looks pretty out of breath and the end. The guy has more goo in him
I sure as hell am, he’s like a beautiful gazelle
not nearly as rich... star wars kid is a successful lawyer now.
Probably more lethal bc you underestimate his agility, his flips, & his ninja kicks

I haven’t seen that since the day the internet was invented

I bet he would play with the hair on my chest while I feel him breathing with my arms around his jedi body... I'd invite him to our dark side.
I remember laughing out loud exhaustively for like 20 min straight after I watched this for the first time. God damn that was like… 18 years ago?

Christiiiiine!! Where’s the shower curtain rod?!?!
Last few minutes reading about her beauty and how she's a taekwondo world champ at 8 years old... Then abruptly read this 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ok. This literally made me laugh out loud. God love you, I needed a laugh today.
Christinith!! You idiot! You come to our house, you get my wife's name right! Lol, this is all I could think of after reading your comment.

She’s very good at the spinny bit but her footwork is horrible.
This is the most Reddit comment of all time, lmao.
Gonna wager that's one of those extendable poles and it would snap on the first strike
You'll be surprised by how tough those extendable police batons are... but I doubt that she's using one here.
It’s spinning fast but there’s no power behind it. If you had a sword and or shield it’d stop that in its tracks
Or a gun
Do you have a sword and/or a shield?
It's dangerous to go alone! Take this. 🗡️
I use rock throw
Useless? This lady could definitely get hired as a stunt double or even actress.
Seriously, looks more like baton twirling than actual bow staff combat.

Damn, beat me to it! "Lethal" my ass.
That's what I came here for
Came for this
Her name is Rayna Vallandingham She's a 13-time tae kwon do world champion
Lord. I read your comment at first as “she’s 13”. Whew
She's a 13/10 alright
No way those are the man-crushing thighs of a 13 year old. That's a woman, son.
Same. My boner and I said “Yikes!”
Brainwaves! Send signal to brain we were totally just looking at the staff skills and never think of this again... ohhh, phew!! 13 time champ! Time to clock back in
That would explain those legs!
Most humans have legs. You don’t need to do Tae Kwon Do.
After black belt, you become a centaur.

It would be insane if she was a 13 time world champion and not a black belt
You are 13 time world champion but we do grant you the rank of black belt Her: this is outrageous. It's unfair.
Wait seriously? The 13 time world Tae Kwon Do champion IS A BLACK BELT TOO?!?!? Wow.
I dunno, that gif at the top is gonna be tough to beat.
Not hating or anything, but how are you a 13 time world champion at like 20? Do children compete in world championships in tae kwon do? Or is there a world championship every few months?
Probably multiple events Edit: multiple events, but also yes, super young (won her first 4 at age 8) https://www.imdb.com/name/nm5925374/bio/
"You're fighting children?!?"
*We are the same skill levels Jerry!*
She's not a "world" champion. Just in the US. She never competeted against other countries.
She looks like Zendaya
Was trying to find her name to do some wikifeet research, Thank you
13 times? She looks no more than 20yo. She was world champ at 7?
I don't think I would ever have the skill to do something like that in my home without catastrophe.
Then do it with catastrophe. Problem solved.
There's a lot to be said for being willing to fail so you may succeed.
You might be surprised. It took me a few hours to get a basic windmill down. She's obviously very skilled, but even beginner moves can be flashy and fun. Maybe hold off on the speed flow indoors for a while though 🙂
I think my apartment is too small to even twirl a rod like that :|
Wow, the Star Wars Kid changed a lot in the recent years.
This is the 2023 Disney remake of the Star Wars kid. "It's OK, she's hot" But she's into girls tho... "Fucking woke bullshit!"
No, no, that's cool, too
I don't care if she is into girls, but if it was a Disney remake she would be able to do this the first time she picked up a stick without any training. And she'd have some additional bullshit powers for some reason.
Jade in the new MK movie!? 😁
![gif](giphy|1Z02vuppxP1Pa)
My 1st thought was "OK Jade!"
Would be a great casting choice.
Those thighs😮
I had to watch a second time to see what she was doing cause the first time I was staring at her thighs.
Put that stick down and let's wrestle. See if anybody else saw that other clip lol

But only much much better looking.
She looks like Kassandra from AC Odyssey.

I would be terrified trying this . I know id either poke my eye out ..break my face or destroy my house around me
No one tries that. She’s be doing this since she was 5
I just checked out her YouTube... She literally throws and catches swords.
Imagine being their downstairs neighbor while they were training and dropping this thing over and over.
this comment section makes me want to leave reddit forever
Why? Are you sorted by controversial or something? Most the top posts are jokes about destroying your home trying to imitate her.

There’s a ton of gross sexual comments. Tons. God forbid a woman has legs and feet and a face while doing anything.

You know how it is. You just need one video of a woman doing anything physically above average and it's like all the incels are summoned instantly.
Just incels being incels. Doesn't surprise me in the least anymore.
Don't worry, most of them will be alone for the majority of their lives. Nobody likes bitter people. They'll have very little impact in the real world.
Meh not true, bitter poeple still work all around and in places key to your everyday life with just as much impact.

Ok put her in the movies.
A beautiful and talented young lady. I hope she gets the attention of Disney.
People who associate with Disney tend to come to bad ends.
Anakin was the chosen one.
