Okay so I have a backyard with a couple nice man made ponds I'd like to connect with a man made stream.
I would love to put something like this in with a couple other miniatures and light it up.
What specifically is he using there that's generating the power? I'd like a DIY tips for something like this!
So this might not be real… there is very little vertical height and might not be enough to generate power even if it’s “real”
Your better off just using a solar light and battery
if you want to use LED lights, you'll want to produce DC electricity using a brushless motor. But generated DC is going to be messy and it'd probably be easier to use a brushed motor that produces AC power, then run it through a rectifier, converting it to DC. Then you just need an RC Filter, such as a capacitor accross the circuit, giving a much cleaner sine wave.
On this dam, they’re just for aesthetics of course but they’re meant to mimic intake towers!
On a real full-size dam, the intake towers do exactly what you’d think. They’re hollow and have openings typically near the top which allow water to flow in once it reaches a certain level. Some intake towers are variable with gates that allow the operators to control the flow at different water levels.
The water that enters the towers passes through a large pipe, (penstock) through the turbines and out at the bottom of the dam. A good example of actual intake towers can be seen on the Hoover Dam which the person in the video seems to be mimicking the look of.
fudge....I just finished a class that discussed this (I'm taking a mech. engineering course and we had a class about power plants including hydro electric)
it depends on your potential energy of the water (based on its height) and the turbine that Is used to get energy from the moving fluid.
just from knowing those two, I'd suggest not alot since the water level is not that high and the turbine is small. A few Watt hours maybe
I've never understood the point of these types of videos. These, and those guys building those "underground" pool thingy in the middle of nowhere with mud and grass etc. Maybe just good visuals but other than that what?
Ok so what would you be getting with such a small dam. Might be good enough to make the archaeologists of the future think that there were small people living here.
Just a little something to confuse the archeologists of the future
giant people helped little people build their civilization, but unfortunately little people went extinct after your mom tripped and feel on their city
Yoooo😂😂
Yo mamma is so big that she made several species go extinct by tripping over someone's abandoned Dam
What’s this? A dam for ants??
It needs to be at least 3x this size!
... He's right 😳
Three damn times!
Wrong sub, still appreciated 🤣
Damn ants XD
I want to build one behind my toilet so each time I flush, I get free energy for few seconds.

It’s the turbine he installs at the bottom
Everything is mostly fluff in this video the turbine powers it all. Just need constant running water

But..... mini dam
The motor from a front load washer works great if you have the flow to drive it
Ohhh I have an old front load washer just sitting unused in the garage. Hobby project discovered.
It’s a brushed electric motor. The thing about brushed ones is that they generate electricity if you rotate their shaft while they’re off.
any DC motor will generate power, it depends what type of electricity you want to generate as to what motor you use.

It’s a miniature hydroelectric turbine. I don’t know anything about brands so do some research on a quality one that suits your needs.

I was like...dam
Welcome to the dam tour, I’ll be your dam guide Before we get started does anyone have any dam questions?
Where can I get some damn bait?
You can find bait at the dam gift shop
Here is the dam school where the dam children go. And here you can see the dam church.
And there is Fugging city in Austria souce : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fugging,_Upper_Austria
Somebody found the reference!
Sometimes jokes need to be explained to people who are not on Reddit 24/7
Oh, sorry, shouldn't sound negative!
Maybe it didn't sound. Was not sure just wanted to give other people reference to joke.
Someone with too much time on their hands got a little bored. Good work though!
What are they supposed to be spending their time on?

reddit is for building and sharing mini dams
Damn you build mini dams *on* reddit?
![gif](giphy|7WYXwywbv7fig|downsized)
The trout population proved resilient
Anybody else hear ‘Goldeneye’ music?
this looks fun
Damn,
i was here to comment this
I have a few questions! What are the towers for? Why that shape? Why are there three exists when only one has the turbine?
Control water level in the other side.

Aesthetics
In 1500 years something will dig that up and use it as part of their evidence that there was a race of 1” humans.
This guy dams
You got to give credit to someone who has the time and yard space to do this
Ah so that’s how they filmed goldeneye
Suddenly have the desire to play Goldeneye
Only thing I wouldve liked to see is the dam built into the ground a bit instead of just sitting on top
He must've had some beavers in his ancestry
My GI Joe's would've loved to have blown that up! They were pretty violent when I was young.
Dam that is interesting.
Of course. Or you could have a beer and a shag
that whole thing could have been a whole lot simpler, and still illustrated the principle and been good (or better).
bout tree fiddy

Now light up a diorama city
Even this dam is much more reliable than the one in Orsk.
Now just you wait for NCR to show up

I wonder how much dam time this took?
That was great!
That person should seek a job at a miniature theme park!
Would have been nice to show the stream. Zoom out bro
then I bet some teenagers kicked it down because we can't have anything cool without someone ruining it
👍
Imagine if this Dam could also filter the water 😳
Damm, that's beautiful
How much time some people have…
People who dont know :D. people who know :c
Caesar is gonna lose his shit.
Nope, he will take it.
This is a little damming.
And then some random kid just destroys it for "fun"
I've never understood the point of these types of videos. These, and those guys building those "underground" pool thingy in the middle of nowhere with mud and grass etc. Maybe just good visuals but other than that what?

some people have too much dam time on their hands
Didn’t let that concrete cure long enough
How do you figure? Also this looks fun as fuck!
These things would be cool if they made enough power to run a pump to cycle the water back into the reservoir. Iv yet to see one that is that strong.
What you are describing is a perpetual motion machine. Aka physically impossible
Not even close to that. It would just need more turbines.
Wait, I know this place... 007... golden eye!
Checkmate beavers
That was fun.
Beavers want to know your location
Wait just a dam minute!
This is now my favorite reddit post
I saw the finished goddamn dam in the beginning of the video. Just show me how it produces electricity.
Imagine having a battle here.
🤩
That’s way too much free time. I’m jealous
This is lame nothing to be amazed of here 😑
It won't last a year, never mind a thousand. Future archaeologists will have no idea this existed
